The Pumphouse Cafe in Wellingborough

Really good simple food served swiftly and with a smile. Generous portions and a wide range of dishes to suit all tastes. I had the chilli and rice with salad and my husband the quesadilla with chips. There is plenty of seating and the staff are lovely. It's not quiet but it is good honest food and extremely good value.

I am not normally one to complain. But me and my partner decided to have a late breakfast. My partner plate was full of grease which should have been a warning. But we don’t like to send food back. We like to try and support smaller businesses. But both of us are having stomach issues after eating breakfast. Can’t say I would go back again. It’s a shame as the staff were very friendly and the service was quick.

I was here 4 years ago and vowed I'd be back and I am. Not a lot has changed decor wise which is fine as it is in keeping with the atmosphere of the site. No frills, just honest to goodness well cooked and served food. Bye and large pretty well the same staff, real down to earth characters who have a great customer facing attitude. Nothing is trouble to them. Much wider menu than before with the value for money making this place stand out from much more established high street restaurants. My wife had a roll with sausage & fried egg - lovely large soft too, 2 sausages and sunny side up egg. A large crispy salad filled the plate. For me? I went for the chicken & bacon toasted Club sandwich. 2 White toast, with brown in the middle sandwiching delicious roast chicken, well cooked bacon, mango chutney and mayo. Again with a large side salad. Add a tea and filtered coffee - absolutely superb. Without a doubt, the quality and service makes this not to be missed eateries although it also makes it incredibly popular.

Fantastic fried breakfast, eggs were perfectly cooked runny yokes. Coffee we ordered was not as we expected though. 4/10. We will defiantly go in for the food as it was cooked to perfection.

Good ol' cafe grub ! Just what I was looking for. Decent prices, service a tad slow but to be fair they're very busy for a reason! Cracking cafe not trying to be anything other than an honest tasty cafe. Bring back the eating challenges tho... And the wall of fame 👍

Really disappointed with the service I experienced today. I had a hot chocolate which was really unpleasant, it was essentially water mixed with milk and a bit of chocolate powder. Instead of asking for a refund, I asked for something else. I went to the counter and the lady was extremely rude and tried to make it seem as though my comment was unjust. She said that apparently the hot chocolate has been described as "the best hot chocolate" by other customers however in my opinion it was close to unedible. As the alternative to the hot chocolate I had a chocolate bar and a cup of tea, however this woman was not happy and essentially put milk, hot water and a tea bag all together and handed it to me. This was insulting and careless. I have never felt so uncomfortable.

Like to support local shop/cafes was driving by so went and got a coffee had one sip and put it in the bin tasted bland, mouldy and old like the filter has never been changed and trying to get as much use out the coffee beans for £3 would exspect decent coffee as i could of nipped round the corner and gone bewitched cafe that has fresh coffee grounds every time and is 50p cheaper.

Nice pleasant visit. Ordered the Pumphouse breakfast which with tea or coffee was £8 which is good value. Staff friendly and tables always kept clean and cleared very quickly. The coffee was ok and not bad quality. The service is very good and my breakfast arrived within 10 minutes. I have to say the sausages and bacon are good quality and tasty( probably best in Wellingborough) , the egg was nice and fresh as was the hash brown. Not a lover of mushrooms, but they were nice and a good portion. Overall a quality breakfast at a reasonable price. Highly recommend.

Good food friendly service and atmosphere

A lovely, simple cafe with a real community feel. Service was excellent; staff all very polite, helpful and efficient. My veggie breakfast/brunch was yummy, copious and very good value; it even came with filter coffee included. We stayed there ages and had a second drink it was so relaxed. Thanks to Diane, the proprietor, and her staff. I will be back!

We have been here a few times each time we go it's got a bit worse. My egg had snot on it and my veggy sausages were not hot tasted uncooked. Told one of the servers said he would sort it the same breakfast returned nothing done with the sausages and the egg had blood in it this time so ended up not eating the sausage or the egg very disappointed and will not return.

Quiet cafe for taking in a hearty breakfast. The breakfast menu is slim but the portions are large. Friendly staff

Best cafe in town and probably further afield too. Unpretentious quality-in-depth. Pricing NOT designed to make you think things are good - they really are.

Nice coffee and nice toasted sandwiches with side salad, very reasonably priced, my only criticism really is whilst sitting by the windows I noticed an awful lot of dust and cobwebs on the blinds and plastic plants on the shelves could really do with a deep clean to freshen the place up, won't stop me returning though nice place just in need of a little more attention to the fixtures and fittings.

The Pump House is really good and worth paying the money for what they offer, my brother in Law and I come here most Sundays and just can not find any faults. The food, the staff and the place are all excellent. Keep up the great service

Good place to go for something comforting and straightforward within an interesting restored building at nene retail park . Great selection of things to eat and drink both hot and cold ordering at counter then brought to table . Service was good , the food with most things is done to order and was really tasty,filling and decent sized portions . This place seems to have a following and very popular which is clear too see why along with an active atmosphere makes for a great visit if in the area

Great food, great staff, great atmosphere, ok parking! Came here with my family for a nice breakfast, food came with big portions with affordable prices, the atmosphere is happy and upbeat and the staff are very helpful with getting napkins/cutlery etc I always come here at least once a month for a bite! Don't forget to try their challenges for the wall of fame.. or shame!

Me and my partner decided to go out for breakfast, we found the breakfast alright until my partner found this on his bread and butter. I did let the person in charge know about this and he stated that the bread was fresh that day. So why don’t they check the food before serving it to the customers. Unfortunately will not be visiting this place again.

Had a coffee and bacon bap with my mum here. Food was hot and delicious, cooked fresh, and bought out quickly. Staff very friendly and the place was clean. Everyone there was enjoying all day breakfasts. It is good value for money.

Always good in here. Arrived early and hung about for a bit waiting for the place to open at 10am. Service was quick and the food good. Could do with more space! Although that’s not their fault, it’s so good they have a lot of customers.

Not as good as my last visit. Think the cook is a little complacent and lacking in care. So much grease with the bacon and the egg. Sausage is poor quality

WOW what a find. After being refused elsewhere we came across this lovely place, only a few minutes drive from the Premier Inn. We were a group of 19 and they accomodated with ease and a warm smile. Plentiful parking and lovely location. The food is excellent value for money, service was good and such a pleasant venue especially with all the little quotes on the walls. No one in the group complained about the food and we all commented how nice it was. Quite a few of us actually ordered food to take away with us and we will definitely visit again. Thank you

A good layout in an old industrial building. Had the breakfast which was fine apart from the Sausages which were very low quality. Beans were only just warm. Staff looked fed up to be there

This is your typical warm hearted local no frills cafe. The food is hearty, quick and tasty. Sauces available.. Toilets available.. Plenty of parking outside. It gets very busy inside so arriving early won't benefit !! An offer of a pre ordered £15 breakfast is available, if you can eat it all ( it's massive ) within an hour it's free. Challenge !!! Takeaways also available. Great for a quick visit. Other shops within the same area are available too...

Popular csfe, particularly with locals and motorcyclists, breakfasts seem to be their stock in trade, though there's plenty other choice. Parking on site, toilet available, quick service and friendly waitresses. Unusual building with plenty of history.

Quality products used, portion size a little mean based on the price. Food is cooked well and tasty. Atmosphere seemed a little unfriendly, likely due to the loud banter on some tables, maybe some background music would help

If you want a really good choice of cafe food this is the place to visit. It was busy the day I went, but although there was a queue it didn't take too long to be served and the food was brought to the table. It is very reasonably priced.

Friendly staff, ample parking, great quality breakfasts at reasonable prices and the coffee is good too. We’ve been several times with family/friends and never had a bad experience!

I try and visit once or twice a month, the food is always good, advise ordering your food as take away when it's really busy (that way you don't get put off when you can't get a table)

Clean and tidy but disturbing that I could not see a food hygiene certificate anywhere.

Food came with a hair, waitress could not care less, tasted ok up to that point. Cafe over the road is a much better choice if you can find a seat.

I visit often with my dad. Always busy, always friendly. I love the kippers! Only small gripe is the chairs are very hard, but then it is a cafe not a restaurant. Great value for money and plenty of parking.

Lovely cooked breakfast that scratched an itch I've had for one. Good price, great tasting food and no long wait.

I would have liked to give this popular venue 3.5 stars if it were possible because, although decidedly unspectacular in terms of the food, I believe it is filling exactly the niche its proprietors intend and is therefore just that bit above average. It is surprising to find a place like The Pumphouse at Nene Court. Going by the general vibe of the shops and businesses there, you would expect to find an upmarket (or at least 'gentrified') delicatessen or coffee-shop here but, whilst The Pumphouse looks quite grand from the outside, inside it has the stark atmosphere of a canteen/dining hall. As others have observed, it appears a little down-at-heel and utilitarian in décor. However, as far as I could see, it was perfectly clean and hygienic and its resemblance to what we used to call a 'greasy spoon' is superficial. There is an extensive menu, taking in fry-ups, sandwiches/panini and a range of lunch dishes of the type you might find in a pub-grub menu. The prices are very competitive. I found the service brisk and cheerful. The food I ate was tasty enough and perfectly well made but unexciting, matching perfectly the down-to-Earth atmosphere of the cafe. If you are looking for no frills, competitively priced, reasonably tasty but modest food in an unpretentious environment (and sometimes I am), then this will be spot on. My only disappointment on the day was that, based on the location, I was anticipating something rather different. A solid average.

I cannot recommend this venue highly enough. I have oesophagus and can only eat soup. Nowhere I have been will puree soup for me until I got to the pump house. 100% gratitude to them, I can go out again with family and friends and enjoy smooth soup.

Had a delicious pork panini for lunch. I did ask about a Christmas option, brie and cranberry as this was not in the menu, he said he could do it if I wanted it. So do ask if you want something you don't see

I will never frequent chains so always visit the independents. The Pumphouse has really easy parking which in this day and age is a real plus. Give them a smile and a bit of banter and I had a pleasant experience. It is not pretending to be a gourmet experience, but the service and portions were generous. If they served bread other than flabby Mothers Pride it would go up a notch. Coffee with a bit more 'zing' would help too. If you are just hungry then I recommend this establishment.

My first visit to this spacious café. Being an ex pumping station the ceiling was very high giving an airy, well lit premises. The standard breakfast was well cooked, hot, and served on a hot plate, kudos for that. Two breakfasts, bread and butter and two teas came to £14. Good value, nice clean premises and a warm welcome awaits you 😀. There are toilets, clean and tidy. And parking is a doddle outside. Highly recommended.

The food was ok but nothing special. The ham was a cheap cut and the chips were a bit dry. The eggs were nice though (scrambled). Sadly, we won't rush to visit the again.

The pump house is very good food and very reasonable prices. They are very quick with their service too.

No a bad place but a little more time could be spent on the aesthetics of the place. Tables that don't stick, windows need cleaning upstairs and the presentation of the food and drinks it's all standard nothing special about the place. It used to have a much cleaner buzzing vibe

Literally the only downside of this venue is owing to size and build, when there's a lot of people there (a great sign of a good local!) and/or the kitchen is busy brewing up yummy fresh coffees etc, it can get very noisy which just bounces around and makes conversation a little tricky - especially if you've got any degree of hearing loss. That being said, would absolutely return. Lovely staff, good decent portions and prices, and a lovely cuppa :)

Grubby and dilapidated, quite out of keeping with its surroundings. It’s a greasy spoon, where coffee shop should be. Served by a clearly bored member of staff, who has failed to raise even a hint of a smile at any customer so far. I won’t be back.

Unfortunately the service and food did not live upto two previous visits. My food order was incorrect and the staff i spoke to seemed put out to correct their error. My breakfast was swimming in water from the mushrooms the bacon was burnt and my plate covered in black bits from over used oil and even the bread was covered in thick globs of spread. Many tables were covered iwith plates and cuos from previous diners. I would like to point out that the usual man on the till/kitchen was not there on this occasion and this may have something to do with the poor service/breakfast on this occasion (two weeks ago Sunday)

Thought this would be a handy place to stop after a long journey rather than going to McDonalds. Ordered a double espresso and a tea cake. The coffee was carried over by one of the staff by putting their fingers under the saucer and their thumbs on the rim of the cup to keep it balanced. As someone who has worked as a waitress, I was always told that you should never handle where the customer was going to be drinking from. The espresso was weak and grainy. I checked with them that this was how they serve their expressos and they confirmed that was how they did it. They do have a machine so it needs a clean out and a pressure reset. The tea cake was partially toasted but was served with two pats of real butter which was nice to have. The next morning, I went to McDonald's instead. A pity.
