The Pride of Spitalfields in Tower Hamlets

Popped into the Pride of Spitalfields for a lunchtime pint and was really impressed. This pub is a little gem couldn't fault it. The DoomBar was spot on and the lady serving was very welcoming.Ten out of ten. Looking forward to going back.

Great value not much more expensive than the North. A quality ale for £4.80. Busy no trouble old fashioned maybe but a lucky find down a side street off Brick Lane.

A typical bar, for locals. The beer is like elsewhere, the decoration is like elsewhere, at least like in the England we imagine. Didn't have the opportunity to try the cuisine but the welcome was friendly and the atmosphere warm.

A fantastic little East End pub just off Brick Lane. Friendly staff and a good selection of very well kept ales. It's a truly authentic place in every way with no silly pretensions. There are too few pubs like this still surviving. I'm glad I found it and will be back for a visit when I'm next in London. Long may it prosper! I've added it to my list of best pubs in London.

Quirky little spot hidden away on the East end of London, Kieran runs a great ship an absolute gentleman and between him and Stella and staff pull a fantastic pint of Guinness. Definitely worth a stop by if you're in the area !

still a good local pub which in todays corporate world is a rarity..... ladies behind the ramp always friendly &they used to do a very good 'mums' sunday lunch, but not been on a sunday for a while so dont know if that still stands....hopefully Yes tho !

Old school, carpeted pub just off Brick Lane. Cask options aren't the most exciting - mainly Fullers - but all are kept exceptionally well and the pub is worth visiting for that reason alone.

A lovely old pub steeped in character and history but a victim of its own success. Way too crammed to be comfortable, ages to wait for a beer (not the staff's fault) and an unimaginative selection of beer for a house.

Proper little pub tucked away on a side street. Very busy, but still managed to get a table. Service was quick and friendly. Fantastic atmosphere - piano in the corner with singalong on and off all night.

Maybe one of the strangest old school pubs I've been in in London! Feels like walking into someone's 60s Livingroom... Definitely not your average chain pub... This place has real character... Plus probably the cheapest pub in town!

Me and my friend were not allowed to go to the toilet together - there is one female toilet and there was a big queue. We got harrassed by the staff in the toilet and behind the bar when we tried to order a drink - there might be cheap pints but it’s not worth the distress

I used to absolutely love this pub, a true hidden gem but it seems that the secret is out now and the charm has waned. I walked in and was immediately hit by the aroma of stale piss and BO, coupled with it being mobbed by mockneys and soap dodgers I immediately walked back out again. I’m sure it’s still a great pub and maybe on another day it’ll be the pub I fondly remember but on this occasion it was one to avoid.

As a fan of the podcast 'The Moon Under Water', in which celebrities describe their perfect pub, I would say that The Pride would be my perfect pub: no screens, fruit machines, poncey cocktails, craft beers or fancy cuisine. This is what a pub should be. A great selection of ales - ESB, London Pride, Five Ways etc... - old style carpet and furnishings, wood panelling, hospitable staff. Prices that are around £2 a pint cheaper than city pubs half a mile up the road. The clientele varies: old boys (like us) at lunchtime, trendy young things in the evening. All radiating a happy vibe. As I say, the perfect pub.

This is a great old fashioned pub just off from Brick Lane, no pretensions. I used to come here when I worked nearby and they brought free roast potatoes and pigs in blankets outside for you to eat on the sun baked cobblestones outside. If that doesn't sound like your kind of thing then I am not sure you deserve happiness.

It was only when the lengthy Vittles Mag pub list came out last year that I found out about this pub. I felt like I'd been deceived, years working around this area, countless events on Brick Lane and in Shoreditch, and yet I'd never come across it for pre-drinks or a destination boozer. Jimmy Mac wrote an excellent piece recently on the gate-keeping of pubs, I wonder if this is one of them, a sort of unwritten rule for this pub in particular, given the propensity for any pub in the area to be covered in a sea of blue business shirts and smart casual spilling out into the streets. Although the correlation between that and £7.50 Neck Oil being served is near perfect, so perhaps this one dodges that crowd. I'm sure some manage to find their way in after work is done. It feels special when you walk into it, the phrase "stepping back in time" gets thrown about a bit but here, it does. The front room is essentially the main room, sweeping plush seating coating the edges of the place, the covers matching the curtains matching the carpets. A burgundy warmth swallows you up as you choose where to plonk yourself down. I grabbed a pint of Five Points pale on cask for under a fiver and occupied a corner. The side room is cosier, but arguably less comfortable, with wooden chairs and tables bunched together. This is typically where the tourists off Brick Lane stumble into, the main room still has that locally imposing factor to it. You're welcome there, it's friendly as ever, but if this is one of your first experiences of a London pub after chasing down bagels and graffiti then looks and the huge groups of blokes sinking beers might set the tone before you've had a chance to figure it out for yourself. In the evening, apparently the piano gets "given a good workout", it's much busier and you have to take advantage of the multiple perching spots distributed around the pub. I'll have to come back at a later time, on a weekday, when the trains are running properly, and soak in one of the last remaining pub-pubs in the area.

Tucked away full of character and well looked after 70s charm, decent range of well looked after and served drinks, cask beer included. And very good value... I've not eaten here so can't comment on the food

A gem of a pub. I love the carpet, the furniture, the layout and the exterior. It has an old school vibe. The pub is frequented by locals, visitors from nearby Brick lane, the City, and people like me who has come a long way to visit this pub. This is perhaps my favorite in London these days. Prices are not bad (for London).

Tuesday nights has a pianist. Old world pub, can be busy at times. Good atmosphere.

Yup. This is the real deal. Surely the best, and cheapest, pub in East London (or at least "near East London, I've not been out drinking in Plaistow). Simply brilliant.

Authentic East End, old school pub, complete with worn carpet, net curtains and locals. Owned by the landlord, with a really friendly, welcoming vibe to it, and reasonable prices. Good selection of well-kept cask and craft. A hidden gem, away from the hustle & bustle of Brick Lane. Not many ungentrified pubs left in the East End, so this one deserves support.

This pub was a great little find just off of Brick Lane. An old fashioned boozer which was just what my friends and I were looking for. The bar, of which there is just one, is only about two and a half metres long, but the service was great. They serve a good selection of beers and the staff are polite and friendly. Thoroughly worth a visit, and why not have a curry afterwards in Brick Lane?

Brilliant pub. Great relaxed atmosphere with a great mix of people. Found by chance when undecided which of the many restaurants to go to on Brick Lane. Glass of wine and a pint was less than a tenner! Prices more like the north!

It was a busy evening, but I have never been so disappointed. After queuing for drinks for 10-15 mins, they stopped serving drinks temporarily because they ran out of glasses, and when I shook my head at the decision - having waited and watched others served before me, who had joined the queue afterwards - I was told that if I didn’t like it, I should drink elsewhere…so I did!

Old school east end pub perfect

This is possibly the best pub I have been to in London. Unpretentious, genuine reasonably priced and friendly. The music comes from a record player apparently manned by one of the customers and had everyone singing. Loved it.

A proper old-school pub, in a quiet street just off the mayhem of Brick Lane. Friendly service, good locally-brewed beer, and a delicious hot beef sandwich for just £4. What’s not to like?!
