Just had a lively steak lunch. Great service, lovely food and a decent price too.

I first ate here 18 months or so. It was fantastic! So good that the second time round could surely never match up. How wrong could I be. This team knows what to do with beef. Stunning food. Thank you.

Christmas meal . We preordered. Very quiet for christmas. I had terrine which was only ok. 2 small bits of bread and needed a chutney as a little dry. Chateaubriand was incredible meat but the portion was tiny for 3 of us. Only served with a bowl of fries, sauces and a couple of bits of lettuce... gorgeous meat but overall meal really disappointed based on a per head cost of £75 per hd inc a couple of drinks.

Delicious steak of many different kinds can be had here as well as some tasty sides and desserts. Could be improved by having a wider range of low/no alcohol beer and giving a bit more sauce with the steak. It costs £3 extra to have a sauce so I think you should get a bit more than a tiny dish that many pubs would give you free ketchup/mayo in. Overall it's nice ambience and good cuisine but a bit variable on the value you get depending on what you order.

It was ok. For some reason our booking wasn't recorded but not an issue as they accommodated us with no delay. Which was nice. Food was just ok. I found my steak to be chewy. So did my partner. Our friend had a better luck but hers was more cooked so maybe we should have it done more. Place seemed very quiet and somehow cold in appearance. Just wished steaks were better.

Lovely rooms in a very convenient location near the train station. No fuss check in (they were even kind enough to store our bags for us). No issues at all.

As a South African meat lover I had yet to find an excellent steak restaurant near me. That changed on Fridday when we visited The Porterhouse. The atmosphere and decor is intimate and tasteful but the food is the real star of the show. There were 4 of us and we selected the Porterhouse for 3 (as that is what was available) and a Chateaubriand for 2. Both were cooked to perfection. My pepper sauce was excellent and the sides were too. We will definitely be back.

Stayed 3 nights, well appointed on suite room. Easy check in, did not have the breakfast. Nice patio garden out back, located in a residential street and very easy to get to the train station, especially with heavy luggage. Rooms are quiet, can hear some trains at night but not loud to wake you. Friendly, helpful staff. Dined at sister vegan resto a block away.

This review is about the restaurant only, Steaks were nice and cooked to our liking, Atmosphere was nice and cosy, Staff were unfriendly and actually a bit rude, We were ignored a couple of times specially by a red haired waitress, Young gentleman at the bar was very friendly and very attentive.

What an underrated place. It's about 5 mins walk from the main train station in Oxford, is lovely inside and the staff are always very friendly. The food is always good and for the quality of it, very fairly priced (it's not cheap but it's definitely worth it). Wine and beer selection is also always good. This place is a hidden gem for just a quick drink before a train or an awesome evening meal. Other bonus is it's open all afternoon most of the nearby pubs only open at 4pm.

The Chateaubriand was to die for!

Great restaurant but they take forever to bring the food. Be aware of the time when visiting, but the food was really good and the toffee brownie was amazing! I would go back.

Had a great stay for just one night visiting from London. Great quiet location to travel by train right by the station, away from the busy part of town but an easy walk to all the attractions. Comfortable, clean room with everything we needed. The breakfast was excellent. Really nice restaurant and bar to enjoy in the evening too. Thank you to the friendly welcoming staff!

Overall I liked this place. It was a little odd in terms of it's location and of course it is a converted pub, which explains the layout. This doesn't help the environment and atmosphere sadly which I found to be a little cold and sombre. However, the food and service was excellent. The price tag is hefty but the food was cooked very well and didn't disappoint. It was busy but not packed on the Saturday night I visited. I cant help but think the price and location were key factors.

Yep, the steaks here are cooked to perfection, which is surprisingly difficult to find in the UK. Basically if you're in Oxford and fancy a steak this is the place.

Had a wonderful meal at the Porterhouse last night. We had a steak & the pork. Both meats cooked to perfection. It was around about £40 a head that was a with a glass wine, a main and a desert to share and including service charge. It seems pricey when I write this but it is absolutely value for money. You’re paying for quality. Thanks so much Porterhouse for a lovely meal, lovely setting and a great relaxed yet professional service and we look forward to returning soon.

We loved this quaint hotel, not only our beautiful room with the stunning windows and sloped floor but we liked that it wasn't in the heart of the tourist area. We also had dinner here. My husband ordered an old fashioned and steak which he said was excellent. The atmosphere is casual, elegant and they have a sister vegetarian/vegan pub a short walk away (The Punter).

Fantastic meal! Sharing steak was seasoned and cooked expertly and the accompanying chips, sauce and salad were spot on, too. We will be back!

Myself and my husband ate here for the first time last night. The steak was amazing, the wine was lovely and the service was brilliant. Such a gem of a restaurant, we woukd highly recommend!

One look at the menu will tell you this restaurant isn't cheap but the food is excellent as is the choice of steaks. Never has the saying "you get what you pay for" been more true. The steaks are cooked to perfection and the staff are friendly and helpful. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone who likes their steak.

A wonderful place to meet for delicious steak. Close to the station, this is a fabulous place to meet friends. We had two babies with us and the lady on front of house was so friendly and couldn’t have done more to make us feel welcome and settled (a huge thank you to her for being so nice and making amazing, much needed, coffees!) . We had the ‘smoke room’ all to ourselves and enjoyed a leisurely lunch for the afternoon. We all had the Steak Frites for lunch - beautifully cooked. Would recommend and will go again!

We booked for four on a Monday evening. Everything was excellent - the welcome, the negroni, our olives while we waited for steak. We had a Cote de Boeuf (for 3) and a Fillet. The steak was really outstanding, chips were great and the walnut salad delicious. We will visit again. It may be a bit out of the way in Oxford, but it's really worth going to find this place.

We wanted a decent restaurant and a nights stay in Oxford because we had tickets for the theatre. But we didn’t want to stay in a chain hotel. So we were very lucky to find this lovely gem of a restaurant & B&B within strolling distance of the city centre. The welcome was warm, the bedrooms are very smart and comfortable; the dinner was truly exquisite - the steaks were sublime and the veggie option was excellent too. The wines were decently priced. The service was happy friendly and efficient. The beds were so comfy, I had the best nights sleep for as long as I can remember. The next morning I felt refreshed and ready for the awesome breakfast!Thanks to everyone who made our stay so wonderful

An absolute gem of a restaurant with excellent food (if you like steak this is for you) in lovely surroundings with excellent service. I would t hesitate to recommend this restaurant.

We stayed at the Porterhouse Grill and rooms on a weekend visit to Oxford. It was the perfect venue! It is easily accessible to parking, public transport and the sights of the city. It’s a five minute walk into the heart of the city. We ate in the pub and dining room and all of the food was excellent. Though it’s called the Porterhouse Grill, Al of the food was superb. My wife had sea bream which was grilled over charcoal to perfection. My sirloin was - as you would expect - succulent and delicious. But what made the trip extraordinary was the staff. Each person we interacted with was polite, respectful, efficient and fun. They were all super-personable. I loved chatting with Ali about the similarities of our past lives. We’ll be back to the Porterhouse Grill and rooms whenever we’re in Oxford!

We both had sirloin steak which was cooked just as we had requested. The Primitivo wine was very reasonably priced, service a little slow but would recommend.

The Restaurant is in a side street. The staff were lovely friendly and attentive .However I ordered the flat iron steak which arrived cut up and was a little on the chewy side £24. My husband order the Sirloin steak £31.His was better than mine more tender. The chips were not homemade which I would have expected on that price level. I ordered the pepper sauce which came watery and not a very strong taste . My husband ordered the Bernaise sauce which arrived in a dip dish and in fact was the consistency of a dip and he was unable to pour onto the steak. Two alcoholic drinks one soda £94 bill. This included a tip of £10+ already added to the bill. I would have happily paid this if the quality was there but in fact it was no better than a mid range pub so I grudgingly paid this.

Took my son out for food on flying visit and on a random rainy Tuesday. Only one member of staff front of house but helpfully advised us there would be a wait. 45 minutes but that was fine, beer was good and the ambience very nice. Service was actually good considering how busy they were, we were attended to at all times in a friendly manner. Then....wow. We went big and we got big. these guys know steak...The food was a triumph. We stayed all evening chatting and enjoying our wine. A really memorable steak and a great night.

Wanted a steak but on reading the menu went for steak, lamb chops & chicken breast as love lamb chops & so glad I did. The steak was lovely as were the chops & all were cooked to perfection. Just did'nt have enough room for the chicken breast as was a large portion! Love the fact the kitchen is open plan with chefs in full view as you walk in & although they were very busy all greeted us with a smile. As did all front of house staff who could'nt do enough for us . Nice touch was to be told fries & sauces (peppercorn etc) were replenished as often as you wanted, however we had enough in the first place so had no need to ask for more. Would most certainly go again when we go back to Winchester. Thank you to all the staff.

Rude staff, clearly didn’t want to be there and unfriendly towards guests. Staff were judgmental at orders and discussed guests at volume behind their back.Cocktails tasted bland and underwhelming.Steak was heavily peppered and tough served “pink”, you would think somewhere called “porterhouse” would be able to cater to classic steak servings (rare, medium rare etc).Curdled sauces.No garnish or style added to the plates, you get what you’re given. Waited half an hour for 2 covers, even though no other tables in the establishment.Showed no concern over us leaving half the meal on the plate as if this were a common occurrence.No atmosphere (music, vibrancy, enthusiasm, customers, customer service).Would return if these issues were addressed as the place was decorated nicely and could have potential with a bit of work.As we were in the area for a short stay looking to make the most of Oxford I wish I had chosen any of Oxford’s other dining opportunities.

Perfect from check in to check out! We stayed for one night, our room was spotless, really comfortable bed with great pillows and duvet. Loved the guest’s fridge on the landing with complementary water, milk in cute bottles and fresh fruit! Dinner was delicious, steak cooked to perfection. Great wine and the service was spot on!!! As for breakfast…. Totally blown away, excellent ingredients and again cooked to perfection, one of the best breakfast we have had for a long time!! Staff were all brilliant and a particular Thankyou to Chris ……. We shall certainly recommend The Porterhouse and will return!!!!

Came here for a much needed date night on 28/10 and was amazed to say the least. Restaurant was very busy and fairly loud, but seemed quiet in the ‘smoke room’ (separate dining room). perhaps will request a seat in there for next visit. Was sat promptly and given menus, fresh water and an explanation of the sharing cuts. staff are very knowledgeable and we’re able to also recommend wines to pair with each cut. Restaurant seemed a tad hectic, and although staff seemed stressed and busy, service was impeccable. The girl on the bar (talk mixed race) did not serve us but seemed polite and said goodbye on our departure. Was mostly served by a lovely young lady (short, dark hair and tan) who sat us, answered all our questions and was all around lovely and knowledgable, and briefly spoke to who i assume to be the manager (short and fair skinned) as she addressed other tables concerns. Very professional and polite..The Cote de Rhone wine was one of the best we have tasted and the Porterhouse was the nicest steak we have ever eaten. Cannot wait to return.

Good atmosphere, nice service, delicious food. Crayfish to share to start and then a sharer steak for mains. Once the sharer steaks are sold they are gone, so we ended up having a slightly bigger and more expensive steak than expected. So if you’re after a small sharer steak I’d recommend booking an early table. But it did not disappoint, we had it with chips, salad, mushrooms and the kale. It was delicious. Definitely would return.One thing I would say the restaurant was a tad on the cold side definitely regretted not having a jumper with me.

I was recommended the porterhouse by a friend and was so happy with the portion that came out. The food was absolutely delicious, however that said it is extremely over priced! As good as the steak was, you’re also paying for everything that comes with it. The fries and sauce were standard average and service again was average. I most likely will return but definitely after Christmas when I’m not worried about spending a weeks pay!

We were looking for a nice steak restaurant for our overnight stay in Oxford. The Porterhouse Grill did not disappoint!! The staff were extremely friendly and knowledgeable about the different cuts of meat, and the steak was absolutely spot on. Will definitely be going back there again.

We wanted to order 3 ribeye steaks for each, nothing special. But the waiter recommended us one large steak - 1150 grams for three persons. And we didn’t order snacks, knowing that there would be a lot of food (salad and chips). No sweet potatoes but it’s ok, we are flexible. As a result, after about an hour, they brought us a huge bone (200 grams, according to the waitress), 5 pieces of meat and 3 large pieces of fat. Maximum 200 grams per person. The waiter confidently said that it was natural that there was so much fat and bone in a serving, but we wanted 3 ribeye steaks in the beginning! Service is very average, no smiles, no small talks, no excuses. After all, this is more a hotel than a restaurant. When we entered, we were waiting for the guests to check in, the hotel reception is also behind the bar. I would not recommend this place to my friends.

Good food in a cozy inn- type setting.We started with a cheese board, all local, my husband had the poussin, baby chicken, gorgeously grilled to perfection. I had the flat iron steak- good, but the chicken was the star.You need to book in advance.

First thing I’d like to say is the steak was perfect, service was fantastic! So with that said you’d expect an outstanding review…..sadly not!!The drinks came out with 1/2 a grapefruit as a garnish, the starter of bread came out as a loaf and the olives were genetically modified to the size of meatballs and extremely dry. The cheese sauce for the steak was basically a cut of Stilton…no sauce included. Please only order one portion of fries as there is enough to feed a small village….other than that it was great :)

Slightly hesitant after a hot walk to turn up at the location on a quiet Tuesday afternoon in this residential street, but the friendly attentive staff gave a warm reassuring welcome. The “beef fridge” on display for dry aging the joints, shows you this place means business on arrival and they’re obviously really passionate about great steak, and goodness but it really shows in what turns up on your plate. 100% worth the expense, and pushing the boat out for a superb steak. Seasoned to perfection, this tender, succulent steak expertly cooked over charcoal was a lip smacker. Usually a sauce or extra salt and pepper required to make good into great, but this beauty was good to go from the moment it hit the table. Extraordinary. Chapeau!Great wine list, with a beautiful cremant, although one slightly flat Camden Hells lager and one spot on randomly, but who cares when the steak is this good.100% worth the stroll to it. And will be returning for breakfast, then walking it off back into town!

Extremely unfriendly female waiting staff.My partner and I arrived on 29th August Sunday around 5:30pm and bought a bottle of sparkling wine for £48.One of the waitresses who was the shortest in height out of the three staff members ( wearing grey trousers) was absolutely impolite and avoiding eye contact when we asked for a table. She appeared obnoxious in character when serving people nearby to where we were seated in the armchairs nearby the log fire place. She was shouting rather than talking to customers and we found it very difficult to enjoy our expensive drink.We observed her behaviour as she turned away customers walking in asking for a table. She was rude and unfriendly in demeanour. We will avoid this restaurant at all costs! We tried writing to the restaurant but they have a reservation email and not a customer service contact

Visited on a recent staycation, food was excellent. Great steak in a nice friendly setting. Young lady who took our order knew her stuff and was happy to explain the different cuts. Not cheap but worth it

We stayed overnight in one of the beautiful rooms, very spacious and a lovely comfortable bed. Evening meal in the restaurant was amazing, fantastic service. Breakfast was spot on…….highly recommend 10/10 THANK YOU

The most beautiful Porterhouse Steak - cooked to perfection. I would so love the recipe for their Slaw it is amazing. Staff very friendly and welcoming. The rooms where spacious and clean and beds comfy - OMG the pillows were amazing!! Fantastic breakfast again cooked to perfection. Thank you for a lovely stay.

Truly amazing, from the service, friendliness of the staff and of course the best tasting steak. Hidden little gem that packs a punch. I can not recommend this place enough. If you’re a carnivore and love an amazing steak experience then you must go. Thank you Porterhouse for a lovely evening.

Great service, the waiter was very passionate, knowledgeable and attentive throughout the meal. As some people said in it is not a cheap place to eat but for special occasions and a stunning steak I think it was well worth the price!

The service was good. Staff friendly. The meal was very expensive . Most expensive in oxford . Steak meal Side salad and chips x2 2 x pints £100.00 altogether. Menu very confusing. Wont be returning.

Steaks - two people were very happy with the shared fillet; but the other two didn't enjoy the dry, tough sirloin; mine (rare) was pretty well done.Chips - excellent.Sides - average.Draught beer - cloudy and stale. Described as "hoppy" but it wasn't.Wine - seemed to be trying to find unusual wines with few classics. The two we tried (chianti and côtes du rhône) were poor. Port had so much sediment that it was unpleasant. Service - the server got the orders for sides wrong which meant the correct ones were very late coming. Very expensive for what it was - there are better quality and better value steak restaurants in Oxford.

We stayed Friday night for our anniversary and we had a fabulous time. We had a lovely room with everything we needed. The pub is nicely located just a short walk from the centre. The best bit by far is the food - my steak was superb and we also had a fabulous bottle of Pinot Noir. Great service all round and a thoroughly enjoyable stay. Perfect

Fantastic meal! Steak cooked to perfection, lovely wine..just a gorgeous place. The staff actually showed us the steak we would be eating earlier in the day when we booked the table. I forgot to mention the wine was also delicious!

This place is not to be missed! Such a find.Me and my husband were on a weekend break for our anniversary and booked this place for a nice meal after finding it online.It’s really nice inside, luxurious yet casual and quirky with a really nice ambience. A little tip maybe if the restaurant read this is that a little music or speaker system might be nice as when tables are close together you are aware of what everyone is saying around you.The staff were all super friendly and really helpful explaining about sharing steaks etc. The manager helped with wine suggestions after we explained what we like, he gave us a couple to try and we were so happy he did. We settled on a great bottle of red that we love, so much so that we’ve ordered some online now that we’re home. I also had a strawberry gin and lemonade, the gin is homemade and was unbelievable. The best I’ve ever had! After I completed the manager he even went and printed out his recipe list for me of how to make the flavours so I can make it myself at home!We had bread and olives to start which you’d think is quite basic. Not here. I could have eaten the starter 10 times over, hot crispy bread with oil and balsamic vinegar and huge green queen olives that were the best I’ve ever eaten.We both chose fillet steak for our main which comes with a walnut salad, tomato and chips and we had it with pepper sauce. There aren’t enough words to compliment how great this was, I’ve had steak from a lot of great restaurants but this was amazing, cooked to perfection. For dessert we had sticky toffee pudding and the chocolate fondant, both of which were simply plated but delicious. Overall a 10/10 meal that made me wish we didn’t live 2 hours away otherwise we would definitely be visiting again soon!

On holiday in Oxford with one of my oldest friends, who like me, enjoys good food. We’d both looked up The Porterhouse online, independently of each other thinking we’d enjoy the place… it looks like we were both bang on! Fantastic food, good wine list, excellent service… a good reason to get dressed up and eat great food in good company!

To be honest the prices far exceed the value. My filet steak was tougher than it should have been. My friend's sirloin was disappointing.

Very polite and attentive staff. Ambience not great. Poor choice of starters. Variety of steaks as singles or sharers, but if you are two you will struggle to find a sharer small enough. Prices are London level.We had a fillet steak (tough and chewy) and a sirloin with a lot of fat. The sirloin was rare not medium rare. Chips were pale but ok.They tried to add £1 to the bill for a different salad, which I thought mean spirited. Wrong wine delivered, but my fault not checking.Poor dessert selection. £178 for two without a starter and, as it turned out, a cheap bottle of wine! It’s ok but nothing special.

Food was delicious - I had flat iron steak which was perfectly cooked and my husband had the sirloin which was amazing too! Staff were very friendly and attentive. It is definitely worth the little walk out of the centre for a visit.

We stayed here overnight for my partners 50th birthday celebrations. It was just lovely . The room was cosy and spacious with a lovely bathroom , everything you needed was provided. The food was delicious, both in the evening at dinner, and for breakfast. The service was amazing and the staff just couldn’t do enough for us, nothing was too much trouble. I don’t want to leave and we will definitely be back! Thanks so much :-)

The Porterhouse, I had been here before so I was extremely curious to go back since post covid. To see if standard’s had not slipped. Contrary to that it has improved ten/fold. Again!!!! I tried to fault this place as I do in many high-end restaurant’s but it is faultless. They have some great whiskey’s and wine, As well as few house ale’s and larger.The decor is that of muted tones with nice bouquet steak sofas. I went with my fiancé and I will definitely will be coming back I had a beautifully aged cote de boeuf and my fiancé had the beer chicken possain. This place easily compares to some of the best steakhouses in London.!!! The staff are lovely and very knowledgeable about the meats. Ambience was lovely.

Really fancied a steak so after a quick bit of research found this place and glad we did. Smaller than expected menu due to Covid but we'd come for steak so not too much of a problem. We ordered the porterhouse and have to say it was excellent. Perfectly rested and full of flavour. The accompanying sauces complemented the beef exceptionally well. Service was good, local was great and the house red was of excellent quanlity.Would definitely recommend.

Went with a couple of friends and gotta say it’s one of the best steaks I’ve ever had!! On top of that staff were really attentive and lovely- definitely want to come back sometime soon!

Simply amazing, from start to finish the experience was out of this world. Upon entering you can straight away see the Covid-safety measures present and the staff taking them seriously too, once we'd checked in we were taken to our table in the "smoke room". A beautiful little side room with only a handful of tables making it more personal. We ordered the Potted Shrimp and Devilled Duck Hearts to start, the flavors were incredible! To follow we shared the Cote De Boeuf, they dry-age this in house for 35 days and my god it was mind blowing, I've eaten all over and in some "high-end" London restaurants but this definitely takes the cake! Fat that just melts away in your mouth and the tenderness of a bone in ribeye was surprising, these guys know their steak!To finish, we enjoyed the Sticky Toffee Pudding and the Chocolate Fondant, absolutely scrumptious, can't fault this place at all.If you're looking for something different, look no further than the Porterhouse, staff are attentive but not overbearing, the food was 11/10 and the overall experience is one I would pay high prices for every time!

Being French I’m very fussy as to how I like my meat cooked and especially my favourite of cuts cote de boeuf. This place has got it spot on and we will be returning very soon. Great service and a lovely ambience top it off, bravo!

I was in Oxford for business and took my wife and 2 colleagues for dinner to celebrate a small deal that we'd done. Steaks all around, 3 Porthouses and 1 fillet. Can't comment on the wine, don't drink it, beers were good.Great food, especially the béarnaise. Actually ordered a double portion of béarnaise and I think they forgot to charge for that! Only downside for me was possibly too few starters but who the hell cares - it's the steak we want and that's what we got! Can't comments on the puddings, we were too full so had double brandies instead. Taxi service was slick back to hotel.

We never write reviews in UK,only when travelling abroad but when something stands out so splendidly then it warrants a mention! Simply the best Cote de Boeuf available to our reckoning in UK and the service and ambience were beyond compare.Every sauce needs to be sampled but save room for all the treats that come with. We only stayed one night in the beautiful rooms upstairs but then returned the next night to sample different cuts with some friends and the Porterhouse lived up to its name.Will be back asap.

My wife had heard from several friends that the Porterhouse was very good. When we went along on Saturday, we weren’t prepared for just how good!!!! Steaks perfect. Solid wine list. Staff were knowledgeable and attentive. Looking forward to going back 😀

Had an amazing evening with a small group of friends. I love this place, the food is always delicious, you will not find a better steak anywhere else. The staff are extremely knowledgeable and attentive, great selection of wines and cocktails! Will definitely be back!!

Had another great night out at the porterhouse. The bone marrow is superb and though we were a bit nervous about ordering duck hearts they were meltingly delicious. Most of us had steak which was as good as ever. We had one beer can poussin which was epic - so juicy.Will definitely be back .....again!

My wife and i stayed on Saturday night for a much needed get away from the challenges of a Covid world and we had the perfect stay. The room was large, had an amazing shower and a super comfy bed. We dined that night and decided to share a large porterhouse steak and i have to say it was possibly the best cut of beef we have ever had it was so tender with such a good smokey flavour. Im not sure but somehow after that we shared a chocolate fondant which was also delicious and then rolled our way back to our room. Breakfast looked amazing in the morning but we decided to skip it as we where still so full. Just wanted to say thanks to the staff who took great care of us!

This place is a rare find, the steak was so good, and the menu was so thoughtful, that you would expect it to be pretentious, but it's the opposite. Friendly people, good range of wine choices, nicely designed, but also cosy and relaxing. Definitely will go back again and again.

I wasn't sure what to expect as I hadn't been before but we had a really great evening out. Fantastically tasty and well-cooked food with an ambiance for celebration. I went with friends but would be great for a family occasion too. Looking forward to being able to visit again!

Celebrated my son's 18th birthday here as a really special treat and were not disappointed. The whole thing - service, food, atmosphere -was excellent. The steaks were the best we've ever eaten. Staff are knowledgeable and helpful. This is not a cheap place to eat but it does represent value for money as the quality is extremely high.

We went to the Porterhouse Grill last Saturday and were sat in the smoke room, across the restaurant (at least 10m away) was a REALLY LOUD table being very openly racist. We shut the door and complained to our waiter he said there was nothing he could do; I was later told that the people sat there were the OWNER and his friends. I cannot bring myself to repeat the derogatory comments against people of colour and women – however, I am more than happy to go into further detail if anybody is interested (Yes, we did hear everything). It is absolutely unacceptable to subject customers and staff in any workplace to this language/hate. We paid our bill and left. I feel anyone who has any intention of visiting this restaurant should do so knowing the racist nature of the owner. Should the owner read this, please educate yourself.

Great night, we dined as a couple. Staff are extremely attentive and the food was divine. Would definitely visit again when we travel to Oxford.

Came for my partner’s birthday dinner, the service was great from the off and the staff were very knowledgeable and talked us through the steak board. The steak was fantastic and well worth the price.

Fui con mi esposa a la cena de cumpleaños un domingo por la noche. Compartimos los corazones de pato para empezar; el bistec chateaubriand para dos (400 gr) y compartimos el toffee pegajoso de postre. Todos fueron excelentes, al igual que las patatas fritas que venían con la comida. ¡Finalmente un lugar para comer en Oxford!

Primera visita a Porterhouse, un poco alejado de la zona principal de Oxford con otros pubs y restaurantes. Estábamos visitando la ciudad durante el fin de semana, así que no estaba seguro de caminar hasta el restaurante. Sin embargo, al llegar, los anfitriones fueron acogedores y las mesas estaban bien alejadas y limpias. Solo había espacio para platos principales, la comida y los cócteles eran fantásticos. Tuvimos un chateaubriand para dos. ¡Asombroso! !

Éramos un grupo de seis que visitamos un sábado por la noche y tuvimos una comida fantástica. El menú es corto y no mucho más que bistec, pero sería tonto venir aquí y no comer bistec. El personal conoce claramente sus cosas y fue de gran ayuda a la hora de tomar decisiones y fue muy amable. En cuanto al bistec, fue realmente algo especial.

Llamé por si acaso, ya que habíamos estado en Bicester comprando todo el día. Muy bienvenido, personal amable, encantador edificio antiguo renovado y también una casa de huéspedes. No es un gran estacionamiento.Muy bien explicado, menú pequeño si no quieres bistec. Compartimos un Chateaubriand que era realmente excelente, patatas fritas muy calientes, ensalada preciosa y salsa de pimienta fabulosa. No es barato pero vale la pena el precio y definitivamente regresaría.¡Ah, y delicioso cóctel de ginebra! !

My husband and I pre-booked to come here for a dinner on Bank Holiday Sunday, as a visit back to the town I grew up in. Hadn’t been here before (certainly not in its current setting) but the reviews were great.From the moment we arrived the serving staff were totally attentive - in total we had 4 rounds of drinks and 3 rounds of food and they were there any time we wanted to order.The starters of duck hearts was so tastey and we followed this with chateau briand for two (600g) with chips, salad (which it came with) and I exchanged my chips for mushrooms. Gods honest truth, I have been to some of the best steak restaurants in the UK (not to name any names) but this steak was the best cooked steak I have ever eaten. It was half the price of others that are more well known in London and it was in such a relaxed setting - we were popping in and out of the back garden for cigarettes and they would come and get us if our courses were laid and we weren’t there.We both had desserts - which we wouldn’t normally do after so much food - and it was equally as wonderful.If you do not come and eat here, you are missing out. Fact. Great service, great ambience and absolutely mind blowing food at a very reasonable price.

We booked a table for 2 on Wednesday. We sat straight away. Great welcome and menu suggestions from the server. Great steak, friendly professional and Covid Safe service. Highly recommended. Well done.
