Rosemary and Chris who run The Plough Inn are excellent hosts. They looked after us superbly and provided a sumptuous Sunday lunch. It was hand cooked from fresh ingredients, with all the trimmings. The pub is full of quirky nicnacs and interesting artefacts to make it well worth a visit for a friendly drink. Thank you for making our day.

We called in to this lovely, homely pub for lunch, not having any idea what to expect. The owners were welcoming and friendly. We each ordered a Sunday roast and were told everything was cooked fresh. This was so very true & such delicious food; so many different tastes and unique blends, including spicy red cabbage which had apple as an interesting, tasty addition. The gravy was simply some of the best I have ever tasted. Nothing was too much trouble and we will definitely be back & recommending a visit to friends and family.

Came in here with family the night before my wedding. Never felt so unwelcome and a burden! Promptly left when the owner was very rude to my sister when trying to order food. The owner complained that we didn't book beforehand which as far I'm concerned was impossible.I tried ringing the week before and the day before I unfortunately entered this establishment to book a table, however there was no reply or they were shut. The "pub" was empty when we arrived (on a Friday evening) with as much atmosphere as a hospital morgue...... I did look at (negative) reviews for this so called pub but I thought you know what I want to support a local business so I'll give them the benefit of the doubt! How wrong I was!!! . Do not visit the plough!

We were persuaded to have a plate of chocolate treats and wow they were amazing, so much too!! Had to take it home in a doggy bag. Very dog friendly and the dog that was with us felt very relaxed.

Faulty towers... Let me tell a story... a very true one... I promise it’s not made up, although I think I could make a mint from giving this to a tv channel! I’m definitely not a writer and I got rather bored by the end! So it was the night before my sisters wedding. We’d spent the day preparing the tipi venue at ‘Brooke Cottage.’ We were all staying in cottages/luxury yurts etc... no camping for us thanks! (As the owners of the Plough made out.... sorry there may be rather a few brackets used in my story.) So we decided we deserved a treat at the local pub. ‘Fishy Friday’ it said outside.... great I thought, that will keep my mum happy. So we opened the door and peered inside. Was it open? Had they had a power cut? Who was brave enough to go inside? It was eerily empty. I pushed my 11 month baby inside, followed by about 10 others. We found a long table along the middle, eventually in the dimly lit room (no one else was here... although the owner said otherwise.) A few minutes later another family walked in that we knew, but we didn’t arrive all at once. From the bar there was a cackle... “who’s in charge here?” I thought well no ones in charge... but I guess I’ll take one for the team! So I nervously walked up to the bar and was straight away asked a series of questions. “How many are there?” I replied “ errrr I dunno, but my little group is 4.” That wasn’t good enough... I had to count. So I panicked and guessed “errrr maybe 17,18,19.” I then politely asked if I could see a menu (I was called rude by the owners in a previous post.) “No menu!!” Was croaked at me. “FISH only.” “Oh,” I replied, “ummm do you have a children’s menu?” “FISH!” “Do you have any thing for vegetarians/vegans?” “FISH!” (You get the idea.) So I returned to my friends to tell them. “Well how are you going to pay?” she bellowed at me. “Well I’m going to pay by card” I said. “You’re paying for everyone on a tab?”she snapped. “Errr no, I’m just paying for my group” I replied. “Well how are they paying?” she snapped again. “Err I don’t know, I’m sorry you’ll have to ask them.” (I could hear muttering behind me.... as people had listened to the convo.) Oh and the room was silent before (no idea where these badly behaved kids were.) So I returned to my table and deliberated our options.... I had an 11 month old baby who needed her bed soon. I personally didn’t like fish much, but I knew it would keep my mum happy. A number of people decided to leave for very valid reasons.... vegans/fish allergy/or purely didn’t like fish! Fair enough! (Oh and they went off to a very nice restaurant in Church Stretton.. which I’m sure someone will recommend later.) Now in an earlier post the owner said that the people who stayed were ‘very nice people.’..... thanks that was me! :) (However the owner made reference to ‘screaming children’... well mate the children stayed as they were desperate and they certainly were not screaming...we were ‘very nice’ remember! Sorry going off on a rant..... but please don’t insult my child when she did nothing wrong!) So I went up to the bar and was told I had to create a tab for my order, even though I didn’t want one.. I ordered 3 drinks and 3 ‘fish’ meals.... still no idea what it was mind! I was told VERY firmly in a croaky voice that they weren’t expecting us, it was Friday evening, she was on her own in the bar. Ok that’s fine... I understand. Her next sentence still makes me feel sick! She handed me my Pepsi, I took a swig and she said “ I’ve been in bed all day, only just got up... I’ve got broncitious and shouldn’t be here.” Right thanks love.... my sisters getting married tomorrow and you’ve just served me my drink... cheers! Anyway the other group ordered their food. The room was still really gloomy as well. Bloody lucky they didn’t have a menu... we wouldn’t have been able to read it! In hind site it was probably dark to hide the fact there were Brexit posters everywhere.. something I admit I totally missed! So we sat at our table (with ‘our accompanying paraphernalia’ whatever that was... I had a buggy but that was it!) And this huge black thing straight out of Harry Potter or something appears. This thing was a dog called ‘Barnaby’ I think. Now I love dogs, but he got in everyone’s way and no one seemed to do anything. Mrs owner spent the rest of the time coming over to us basically slagging of the campsite/Brooke cottage... I’m not going to repeat the stories but she’s flipping bonkers. Over an hour later the food finally arrived!! Yay! Now this is one good thing about this place. The food was actually lovely (I don’t like fish, so this is a compliment!) Mr man owner, you have a real talent in the kitchen. Your wife on the other hand is barmy! Sooo my stories not done. I wanted to go home, my baby was tired. So I went to pay.. Well I’m not going to lie I can’t remember the price. But the bill was bloody huge! No wonder there was no menu... I would have left! But whatever, I got my card out to pay.. put it in the card reader. ‘Declined.’ “Your card doesn’t work, you’ve not payed !” she sneered. So I apologised and pulled out another. The same thing happened. “How are you going to pay?” she sneered again. Luckily I had money in my purse for my sisters wedding bar, so I used that. We then quickly left... our ordeal was over. However the other group we were there with, left a bit later. And I only heard about this the next day. Exactly the same thing happened to them with their cards. My sisters mother in law was seen sprinting down the county roads back to her accommodation to find money. So basically the whole tab thing makes sense! They make you set up a tab as the card machine doesn’t work/no connection. Then you have a hefty bill at the end to settle, rather than giving up or leaving when your card won’t work at the start! I’m sure more things happened, that I can’t remember/I’ve chosen to forget. But Basically don’t bother with this place. Foods great. But the experience.... TERRIBLE!

From other reviews its clear that many people have had a good experience of the service at the Plough. However for this pair of pensioners, back-packing from Much Wenlock to Church Stretton on a very warm July afternoon, that was not the case. Passing the pub and in need of an urgent top up of our water bottle, we noticed that the place was closed. But as there was a couple in the car park watering plants, I thought this would be an opportunity for a refill with minimum inconvenience. It turned out that they were none too pleased to see us and water would not be forthcoming without a donation from us to charity. I know they have a business to run, that’s their prerogative and nothing wrong with the idea in principle, but come on people, lighten up a bit, work on your PR and I’m afraid it’s ‘no points’ for service with a smile this time. I’m pleased to say that after that encounter another villager proved to be far more helpful!

I was with the group that had a misunderstanding about the cost of the carvery. We did see a poster in The Plough advertising the carvery at £12 and when we went to pay we were charged £14. From entering the pub to leaving the service was not good and 2 members of staff rude and unhelpful. Our waiter Paul was the only person who was friendly and polite and was laughing and joking with us. We tried to pre order a vegetarian meal and were told this could be ordered on the day, when this was asked for we were told the kitchen was too busy to make one. The meat on the carvery was very nice, potatoes hard and only warm, other vegetables ok. Some of the desserts were only warm but other people ate them or left them and did not say anything. When one of our group asked for one without custard this was refused as they were already ready.

We visited in a party of six on a Friday night. The pub was quiet - we were the only patrons. The pub was nicely presented with a log fire burning so was warm, and the bar appeared well stocked. Disappointingly, the food choice was fish and chips or fish and chips for mains, but there was a wider selection of dessert. The fish and chips were well prepared, well cooked and tasty, but were adequately sized rather than generous. And for the price, the fish should be cod or haddock, not “sustainable white fish”. On the other hand the desserts were a large portion, with an interesting selection available. The gateau and cheesecake were well received. The crumble, whilst rich and of good flavour, was heavy and did not resemble traditional fruit crumble.

My wife and I were meeting up with two of our children and their families at The Long Mynd for a walk. We'd had to cancel an earlier booking elsewhere for lunch after the walk, as dogs were not acceptable, and happened upon The Plough which accepted our booking over the phone at short notice. We were given a very warm welcome and then regaled with a pub Sunday lunch which we'd rate the best we'd had anywhere in this country, the meat deliciously cooked in copious but not too large portions, the vegetables exemplary - especially the red cabbage, and all at a reasonable to low price including reductions for children's portions. The friendliness and hospitality of the owners did much to keep our grandchildren comparatively quiet and attentive to their meals, whilst the owners' anti-fracking sympathies further promoted the experience in our eyes. We live in North Yorkshire but travel often to Cardiff and hope to experience this hospitality and food on further occasions.A great find!

Visited with a party of 12 including 5 kids and a dog. Nothing was too much trouble, we were made incredibly welcome and the food was amazing - my husband admitted it was the best roast dinner he'd ever had and this was in front of his mother! We will definitely be back!

Absolutely superb service! Possibly the most quintessential pub we’ve been with personal and diligent service. The food was outstanding and all home made! Thank you for a lovely meal and conversation!

We had lunch here and the food is freshly cooked by the landlord. It was the best Lasagne & Garlic bread I have had for a long time. Decor of the pub is lovely with a good atmosphere and friendly staff highly recommend a visit.

Whilst visiting the area with 13 walking friends, I booked a table for a meal here and I’m so pleased we chose this little gem of a place. As soon as you walked through the door you felt a lovely atmosphere. It was such a nice change to have relaxing background music playing rather than loud awful music that you find in most places these days too.

We had this as the ‘local’ when we were camping nearby. The landlord managed to turn a simple ‘pub classic’, sausage and mash, into an absolute triumph. I’m a big believer in British food being as worthy as any, and if I had to prove to foreign friends that they’d underestimated traditional British food, this is where I’d take them.

We called in on our way back from a long walk with our dog, looking for something to eat and drink. We were not disappointed. Our meal was excellent and the hosts were very friendly and welcoming. They could not do enough for us and even gave the dog a bonio and some treats. Would highly recommend this characterful pub.

We had always meant to visit The Plough for refreshments after regular walks on the Stretton Hills, attracted mainly by the “dog friendly” signs outside the pub, but usually went to one of the superb cafes in Church Stretton instead. Having just taken two of our grandchildren and their parents up The Ragleth Hill, we all felt in need of a hot meal and beer and the Plough beckoned.

We are moving to Shropshire from Hertfordshire and spent a day in the area house hunting. We decided to stop at a local pub for a quick meal before the 150 mile journey home and just happened to find The Plough. We have 2 large dogs and asked if it was OK to bring them in...the response we got was so warm & welcoming, we felt like regulars coming back after a long absence! Rosemary introduced herself and made us feel at home, even giving the dogs some much appreciated treats!! Before long we were chatting to the "locals" and we really felt that we had made the right choice (the pub...and moving to Shropshire!). The fish & chips were fantastic and we ended up staying much longer than intended (we eventually got home at midnight!!). We move in early October - and will be back to The Plough before we start unpacking!!

My friend and I went to The Plough after walking around Shropshire Hills. We met the owners who were very friendly, interesting and great to talk with. We had high-expectations for the food after being told of praise which a fish connoisseur attributed to his meal. The food was great and equalled those expectations. I would highly recommend a visit!

We hadn't booked, chanced our arm even though there was a large wedding party dining, and were warmly and quickly accommodated. The owner Rosemary, the chef and the serving staff couldn't have been nicer and the carvery choices were really good. Lovely traditional pub with lots of space and lots of interest. Will be back!

We arrived on Sunday hoping for a pub that served a Sunday carvery. We hadn't checked in advance, but the other nearest pub was not serving food that day so we risked it. They weren't serving a carvery that day but we stuck around nonetheless. We ordered drinks (not an overly wide selection available but easily enough for a country pub) and ordered food. The pub was quite busy at the time and they seemed fairly short-staffed that day, but considering the food was all home-made we weren't waiting too long. In the meantime, we spoke to other customers and (when they weren't busy) staff. There was a very relaxed and peaceful atmosphere despite the number of customers. The staff were very friendly and most other customers seemed happy with their experience as well. Then the food arrived. Wow! I had the lasagne and it was amazing - even better than I've had at Italian restaurants! The garlic bread it was served with was also done to perfection (and juicy with garlic butter!) Despite how exquisitely crafted the food was, the portions were traditional pub portions and thus rather large - one of our number sadly had to leave food behind despite the flavour. Finally we paid and found the bill to be about what you'd expect from a pub: not as high as the restaurant-quality food would suggest though. Overall, the experience was fantastic. If I was in the area again I would definitely choose to come here.

Having spent a day in Church Stretton, we stopped at The Plough for an early dinner on the way home. It was early evening and very quiet but we were warmly welcomed . The Plough had a very comfortable atmosphere and we enjoyed absolutely superb food including some vegetarian meals served by a delightful young lady. They also provided an excellent range of local ales. There's nothing not to like about The Plough. We will be back.

I was one of a party of nine walkers who had lunch at The Plough Inn in early May. The proprietors Christopher and Rosemary opened their pub dining room to us, by prior arrangement, and made us most welcome. Our soup and sandwich lunches, from a wide selection of fillings on offer, were he most substantial many of the group had ever seen. Future visitors are advised to tell the proprietors how hungry they are when ordering! We had been on a three hour circular walk to Wenlock Edge returning to The Plough for lunch. After a most enjoyable lunch we needed another long walk! Christopher and Rosemary took an interest in our group members who had travelled from all over the country to holiday in this area and in this respect were most attentive publicans and kind hosts.
