Popped in here, this lunchtime,as its on our way home. Lovely pub inside and outside area looks good too. Hubby had fish and chips and I had the Chip Shop Platter. The portions were big and the fish was delicious, not all batter like some places. We were both full afterwards. This pub is local to us and we have seen staff come and go and a few refubs. This time, they seem to have got it right. Would recommend the food and service to all.

Remains a really good pub. The food is good and reasonably priced however the new menu isn't as good as the old one. Staff are friendly and the pub has a really friendly feel. After it reopened towards the end of last year I wondered if it would continue to be as busy after the new year but it is rightfully doing well

Been in this place a few times since it reopened. Food is good pub grub, choice of ales, cider is adequate. The pub has been updated well and to a decent standard. I note previous reviewers have made comment about the regulars being intimidating! I have sat with the regulars to watch sports on the t.v. and never had an issue. If you don't like the place, don't use it, but don't try and ruin a new business with negativity. You'll be the first to moan when all the pubs are closed!

Thought we’d try it even though mixed reviews. We had the 2 for £16 I think it was , you pay for what you get just average wouldn’t rave about it . It’s a shame the bar isn’t separated from the restaurant, it was very loud and quite intimidating to be honest, not the best experience.

This pub has had various managers over the years, we have had good and bad meals here. It has recently been refurbished and has a new manager. Very pleasant surroundings. Drinks are very reasonably priced. And, Oh Joy! They stock whisky, more than one brand. Unlike the pub down the road in Fairfield. We had 4 different meals ranging from steak to a club sandwich. Very reasonably priced. We all enjoyed our meals which were hot and good portion sizes. The old carvery has now gone. Shame, I used to enjoy the carvery but I suppose we must move with the times. We may return to try the Sunday lunch. For anyone who became disillusioned with the old pub - give it a try- the new management are trying hard.

First time visiting since it’s reopening, we won’t be returning . Food was average , frozen chips which weren’t fully cooked . Main problem is the lack of security, my daughter and I went to watch the football with a bite to eat , very noisy and rowdy to the point we thought a fight would kick off ! Certain individuals who we are aware have been banned from the nice pubs in Bromsgrove were allowed to ruin it for everyone else . They were getting louder and louder and no one approached them . Awful experience !!

Although we didn’t have a booking we stopped off today on the off chance hoping to get some good grub, oh how we were not disappointed!!! The food was amazing and we couldn’t believe the variety of veg that was on offer. We have never been to a carvery which offers roasters, new potatoes and parsnips all together (although we think you should go all the way and get some mash on the go definitely be worth 6 stars then haha). The choice of 4 meats was great especially for my 3 fussy children. The two chefs, the young one and the one with the beard worked fab as a team and we couldn’t help but recognise how often the food was being refreshed. Although we take our hats off to the chefs it can not go without saying how absolutely amazing the two young girls behind the bar were. When we arrived with no booking they told us it would be up to a 30 minute wait yet we were seated within 10 minutes. We were in the pub for a total of 3 hours and these 2 young girls who don’t look a day over 20 had the pub running like clock work, despite the stress they were under from all the walk in customers they remained professional, polite and didn’t once not have a smile on their faces. We must admit they did look a little under staffed and it seemed they may have had a trainee on shift but again this was managed perfectly. The customers all seemed to pleased with the service provided especially the light humour the girls shared with them! They catered exceptionally well for the blind man who was sat just around the corner from us, the constant check ins for his food, drinks and needs was second to none. There was a larger group of men Who were drinking also came into the pub, Who I can only assume we’re regulars, as the relationship they had with the bar staff was refreshing to see, it’s rare nowadays to see young people associate with the older generations. Overall could not recommend this pub enough, the food and the staff are second to none along with the service provided. Hats off to the landlord you have good staff representing your brand. We will defiantly be making another visit soon. Thanks to all at the Plough & Harrow.

I really cannot understand all of the bad reviews.. Please don't be put off visiting. We were frequent visitors on a Sunday over the course of 2018/2019 for the carvery, however we had a break for a few months due to a more local carvery (We are not from Catshill) opening near us. Before visiting on Sunday 16th Feb, I had a quick look on here to see if anything had changed. I was so surprised to read all of the negative comments! However, it didn't put us off and I am so glad!! The staff were extremely friendly, especially the guy serving on the carvery and the chef out the back who recommended we try the Cookie Dough Cheesecake (Good choice btw!). Yes all of the staff seem to be young, but they had great customer service skills and we didn't have any problems. They checked in and asked if we were enjoying our food and cleared the plates promptly making polite conversation. When walk in guests arrived they did their very best to get them a table ever though it was busy. The carvery was great. 4 choices of meat: Turkey, Pork, Beef and Gammon. Veg was fresh and constantly being re-filled. Yes the veg is sat in water as one review mentioned, however this keeps the veg hot and stops it from going dry. Mash potato would be a great addition, however the roasts and new potatoes were good. Cauliflower cheese was delicious. The only negative point I would add is our table was slightly sticky... nothing major and we didn't need to ask for it to be cleaned. The drinks are also very slightly on the pricey side, however I think all of the negative reviews have been exaggerated and you'd think the prices are that of the Ritz.Overall - Please don't be put off by the bad reviews and give this homely pub a try.

Sunday Carvery at £11.95 is more than the price of a proper Carvery around the area and got to be the worst. All the veg. are sitting there in water until you drain & serve yourself and they are tasteless. Gravy like brown water. Sticky Tables. Tired Décor. Stained dirty seats/chairs. Drinks are the same price as pubs in B'ham City Centre. Car parking spaces are marked out for fiat 500s only. Needless to say we won't be returning.

I cant comment on the food since we used this pub to meet up with friends. We sat in an area designated to drinkers so expected a pub experience. The drinks prices were a real shock, especially since the round was fairly basic for four people. I expect diners may not be so aware of high drinks prices when it is part of the overall bill. There are other pubs in this area, we will try them in future as I cannot justify paying these prices. We moved on as I didn't want our friends to experience the cost of a second round!

Very expensive carvery for the service and wait. Two adults with two soft drinks came to over £30 for just two carvery. I had to ask for a steak knife to cut through the beef and I still couldn't cut it, so ended up leaving the meat. Covered in fat and gristle. Veg was soft. We qued for maybe 20 mins to get our food and that's after queuing at the bar to pay for it. I don't recommend this place and we won't be giving it a 3rd chance

Expensive pubVisited November 2019. Put off in the first few minutes by the greeting “ello mate” from the barman. I asked for Glenfiddich, the barman looked askance and disappeared for a few minutes, then returned and began looking along the rows of bottles at the back of the bar. I said if you have not got Glenfiddich what whisky have you got? He pointed to three bottles and said, “these”. Jameson, Captain Morgan Rum and Bells!!! I opted for Jameson and was so surprised at the price, £3.85. I was speechless. Whilst I was waiting for the drink the barmaid asked me twice “did I want a drink”. She was standing next to the barman.!!! The carvery was expensive for what was on offer, £7.50. The beef, a peace about the size and shape, both in length and thickness, of the sole of a shoe. Not joking. The server managed to cut a slice and struggled to cut a second slice, without success, until he changed knives. I said, “don’t bother, if it’s that tough to cut it will be too tough to eat”. The remains of the beef were removed from the counter. The red cabbage had been boiled for so long it had lost its colour. The stuffing looked dry and uninteresting, did not try it. The cauliflower cheese (I think that is what it was} was dry and burnt round the edge. The décor was drab and outdated. With the high prices charged a make over should be easily affordable.

The plough isn’t badly priced, at £10.95 for a roats, however I’ve paid less for much better. The food had no flavour and no matter how much seasoning I added nothing got better. The roast beef was juicy but again no taste. When I asked for some cranberry sauce, the girl sighed and said it’s on the side. I then informed her that it was empty and she rolled her eyes, I then asked her if she could bring some over to me so I could start eating my roasts and again she rolled her eyes and said I suppose. This kind of service is just not acceptable in any pub or restaurant, if she doesn’t want to provide good customer service she should probably look at a different industry.

We decided to try the Plough & Harrow as we knew it to be a ‘carvery’. We called and booked a table an hour beforehand no problem. It’s actually a good old-fashioned, proper pub, decor a little dated (not a problem) but the layout, management and organisation needs sorting out. On arrival you’re straight in the bar/dining area and not sure where you should go/be. There was just one girl serving behind the bar by herself and no other obvious members of staff. It was fairly busy so it took a while. We were pointed in the direction of a table furthest from the servery right by an external door, which when used was continually left open (really quite annoying - we had to close it 3 times). There’s no designated bar/seating/waiting area; just dining tables so it’s all a bit chaotic. The food was ok really, not the best but certainly not the worst, but there was just one lad working really hard to get everyone served their food but it did take a while since he had no help (even having to leave the station to get more napkins). There were a few young girls flitting about sorting tables etc., but the carvery was self-service! All in all there didn’t seem to be any management or owners around, just a bunch of young kids with no real customer service experience. I wouldn’t personally return.

Came here with family on a Tuesday afternoon. First highchair we were given was broken (missing strap) so had to ask for another. Decor is very dated, felt like a very sleepy old pub. Asked for menus for those not wanting carvery but were told the 2nd chef that does the non-carvery cooking had gone home due to lack of orders! Weird... Only one member of bar staff who rudely told me she couldn’t clear plates and THEN bring out a birthday cakes as she was on her own. Only about 7 other guests in the whole place and nobody waiting to be served... couldn’t understand the comment really. Lad doing the carvery was cheerful and generous with the meat. My 18 month old was given a bowl of food free of charge, which was a nice touch. Food was fine. Didn’t visit the toilets so can’t comment on those. It’s kinda like going to your nans for a sunday roast. It’s just fine, but won’t be rushing back (but still probably better than toby carvery) FYI food hygeine rating done in early 2018 was a 3/5 ‘generally satisfactory ‘

My first visit to this well-known carvery in Aug. Food excellent, however table a bit tatty inside. We booked a Sunday evening table for 6 based on recommendations. Had to queue at bar just to find out where our table was, then was given our table with 8 chairs but 6 tablemats (which were not lined up with 6 of the chairs and were off-puttingly faded and worn all around the edges) and just 5 cardboard beermat coasters. Took some family who don't live locally and wanted a reasonably priced 'treat' for them, but felt embarrassed by the tatty table and having to rearrange places and chairs first (considering we'd reserved it). Perhaps I was just unlucky this time. Once we tucked into the carvery it was generous and lovely, however. No table service until we'd finished the main - had to queue at bar again for carvery tickets and drinks. I would happily go back for their good food on a cheap night, but not on a Sunday (£9 for 1 course) with visitors.

It was about 6:30 when we went to get our food and it all looked like it was left over from lunch time, despite this as I mentioned before the food was OK. Nice pub with a good atmosphere and a good choice of beers.

Visited the plough and harrow today on a recommendation and a statement of better than the Nailers arms. We had high hopes as the Nailers carvery is always to a high standard. How disappointed were we? When we arrived we were pointed towards our table as it being down there on the left. Usually when a table is booked the courteous thing to do is to escort the customer to it. Bad start. The waitress/bar lady referred to everyone as darling. Not something we appreciate. Also had to ask for cutlery to eat with. The food was something else. Beef was stringy and tasteless, pork was ok but not great, Turkey the same and very salty gammon. All carved in big chunks not nice slices. Unappetizing vegetables. Peas, sweet corn and carrots sitting in water. Everything else looked unedible. No courtesy call during the meal, which was so bad that 3 of us left it after only a few mouthfuls. The only saving grace were the puddings which thankfully were quite tasty. When the dishes were collected at the end, we spoke to the waitress and expressed our dissatisfaction. After a short discussion she went away promising to "sort something". Cue a visit from the "darling" bar lady saying why didn't we say anything to her about it when she paid us a courtesy visit. We politely reminded her that there hadn't been one. She insisted there had and then quickly backtracked blaming it on them being busy that morning. Wasn't that busy while we were there. Eventually they offered to remove the desserts from the bill as a gesture of goodwill, which we accepted. Although the desserts were tasty, and the issue was with the carvery. Should they have removed the carvery meals instead? I will say that not all the staff were unhelpful. The waitress who collected our dessert dishes was extremely helpful. Sorting out our issue straight away. Would not recommend this carvery to anyone. There are much better ones in the area.

I came here withy wife and mother in law and we all had a carvery. There was a 10 minute delay because a new joint of beefcoming out. After 10 mins a queue had formed and the joint was there being served. My wife and I had the beef and the mother in law had the pork. Not only did the meat taste succulent but so did the veg pots and everything else. Very pleased if they keep the same standard will visit again.

I recently visited here for the fourth time with my family for my Mom's birthday (which was their first visit) as a recommendation from my fella's Nan & Grandad who eat her regular and now i have become a regular!!!!! My family were over the moon at such great tasting food and drinks!!!!! This pub offers 5* cavery quality i have been to many caverys and this pub wipes the floor with everyone!!!! Everything about it is deliciousss giving you a brilliant choice of fresh cooked meats, different types of potatoes and vegetables & a large yorkshire pudding!!!! even my nephews were happy that they served their favourite "chicken nuggets and chips" (along with other selections) which was also lovely as i pinched a little bit to try!!!! They have a wide selection of beers, spirits and famous ales and a good selection of soft drinks all at affordable prices!!!!! They also have an AMAZINGG selection of fresh homemade puddings which are all on display in a clean glass cabinet giving you a generous size for only £4 to eat in or even take away if your feeling full!!!!! The staff are friendly, welcoming and cater for your every need!!!! The head chef (sorry i didnt get your name) who dishes out the caverys is a right laugh he is a great credit to that place!!!! I will always return here as you get value for money for fantastic fresh tasting food!!!!!! LOVE THIS PLACE!!!!! ❤

Visited today.. The staff attitudes are a disgrace.. 'here' and walk away from you when you say you're finished. Very ignorant (blonde girl). The lady behind the bar was lovely and able to do her bit very efficiently. The guy serving the food was rude and unpleasant stating no meat is left out longer than an hour. I sat in this pub for 3 hours and the same beef was still on display when I left. The overall dining experience was abysmal and I would not recommend coming here for food. The pork was chewy and the turkey was dry.

We usually visit the Plough and Harrow once a week and we are always made welcome. The carvery is very good value for money. There is usually a selection of three different meats and a good selection of vegetables. My husband was not feeling well on our last visit and the staff were very helpful and caring. He also uses a walking stick and cannot carry his food but when he has put everything on his plate there is always a member of staff waiting to take his plate to the table.

Staff lovely food pretty good. But the wi fi hasn't worked for nearly a month. I asked one of the girls why they advertise free wi fi and it never works? We report this and the broken door to the boss nothing happens. If he reads this, you are letting your lovely staff and most importantly your customers down.atvb Alan Mac.

The carvery at the Plough and Harrow used to be superb in years gone by. However, after a terrible visit last time round, we went back last weekend to find that, although the service has improved, the food is a long way below what it used to be.We ordered drinks and, to be fair, it didn't take us long to get to the food counter on what was a pretty busy Sunday teatime. The meats were not good at all. The pork was very dry and stringy, the gammon was full of fat and was really chewy, and the beef was tough and gristly. The veg was OK, but a step down from previous years. The roast potatoes were very good, as was the Yorkie, but those were the only high spots. The service and staff are back to what they used to be, but sadly, the food at this once-great carvery is simply nothing like it was. Another disappointing visit.

Came last Sunday as a party of 5. Never seen the place so busy. Didn't book a table but the waitress added our name to the list and we had a pleasant drink outside whilst waiting approx. 20 minutes. No complaints about the food, fresh and plentiful.

This establishment has given up pretending to be a pub and dedicated itself to eating. If you come for a family meal and one drink you fit into the purpose of this place very well.We have eaten here in the past but dropped in for a quiet drink and were disappointed. The food prices are fair but drinks are expensive, we moved on and paid £2 less for a round of two drinks. The garden area is pleasant but the fabric is neglected and worn.

On our way for a long weekend break, we passed this pub by chance. The lunch my wife and I had was excellent. The portions are generous and tasty and reasonably priced. There was a fair number of people in the restaurant (obviously a popular venue) which made for a nice atmosphere and the staff are friendly to.We would certainly visit again if we were ever in the area.

We went here on a Wednesday and were pleasantly surprised to find a carvery as they are often only available at weekends in my experience. The meet was tender, not dry, the selection of veg was good and tasty and the area was kept clean, again, unlike some others we have tried. If you have hearty appetites, try this place. They also do a range of pub standards to order, and the beers on offer were also interesting

It is a few years since we came here and it appears to have had a bit of a facelift. The carvery area has been renovated and the seating area rearranged and decorated . Came here during the week and very surprised how quiet it was, Only 6 other people early evening. It used to be very popular. There was a choice of 3 roasts, beef, turkey and pork plus roast and new potatoes, and a choice of 6 vegetables. The food was hot and tasty and portions are generous.Bar and waiting staff and the young chef were very friendly, helpful and caring.Bar area nice and cosy.I hope more people visit as it deserves to do well.

A past favourite pub but disappointed this time. My partner ordered the steak and ale pie and I had the belly pork. When mine came it was literally a slab of pork fat, even the waitress commented that it looked awful. My plate was returned to the kitchen but the replacement was not that good either, this time so overcooked the knife couldn't cut through it, on top of that my partner had finished his meal so we ate separately. We had hoped for an evening out together but the overall standard was very disappointing
