RUBBISH! was seated at a small table behind a pillar in the middle of the restaurant, I waited 15 mins to be served and asked if I would like a drink, but then had my food order taken at the same time, I had the roast beef which wasn't very hot, and the beef was more gristle and fat than meat and the Yorkshire pudding was looking a deflated and depressed, my wife had the fish and chip that was under cooked, white fish is a white meat and not a pink/brown meat, for us to arrive at the restaurant be seated, have a drink, eat and leave in less than an hour tells me that the food was rushed and a big chance of it being undercooked. I have waited longer in fish and chip shop for my fish than I did in this restaurant

Had booked, but was running late on a Sunday evening and they still accommodated me for dinner, much appreciated as I had been driving for about 4.5 hours that day. Staff were lovely, just the right balance of attentive without being pushy, friendly without being intrusive. Pleasant, happy and kind. Food was lovely, especially the roast porchetta, and a huge serving at a reasonable price. Only slight downside for me, was one table with children, letting them watch videos on the phone with the volume up... And a "dad" at another table chuntering on about a set menu, when there was clearly no set menu. Don't get me wrong, if something isn't right, I'll complain, but this fella forgot to put on his big boy pants and needed to calm down. TBF None of which was the pubs fault! So all in all, a definite recommendation from me! And did I mention that the staff were fab!

Basically saying for us to eat quickly and leave. Food took a while to come due to it being busy. Roast chicken was nice but too big for the plate and needed a sharpr knife to cut it with Roast lamb was nice but fiddly. Children's portions were generous. Restaurant was noisy, service was slow. Maitre d put a damper on the meal from the start. Would not recommend or return.

The new menu at the Plough is excellent. Several attractive items to choose from: it is our second visit this week, and we will come again soon. :::::::::: Another visit, and I fear - another disappointment. The atmosphere in the pub is brilliant, it's a really pleasant place to be. But the menu had very few things attractive; we tried "Asian salad with soft crab", and the very basic salad was old, far from fresh (as if it was cut yesterday). What's going on in their kitchen? ------- I am forced to write an update: we visited yesterday and found they changed the menu (as is appropriate from time to time). The new menu was quite disappointing though: the excellent dishes are gone, the pork belly has little flavour, the plaice as well (plus the rubbery gnocchi wasn't a good add), several other dishes were quite/below ordinary. Hope the next change of menu comes soon. ........... This is not my first review of The Plough in Coton, but I felt compelled to write again. The atmosphere is as good as ever, the staff are happy and not stressed, enjoying themselves (mostly). It's important to have this good energy, it passed over to the floor. But my main point was the food. They changed the menu last Thursday, and there are at least four main dishes we would have to come back for to taste... Today we had octopus, and whoever is in their kitchen - they have my respect: it is not easy to cook octopus that tender, and the whole dish works very well together. Again, you can only cook that well if you have good energy, and I wish it continues at The Plough

Obviously a very popular place but like other comments the Sunday roast wasn’t warm enough. £13.90 for a large glass of wine is most we’ve ever spent. Unfortunately before we’d even eaten the waitress managed to knock my husbands pint flying, all over me. They wiped the table down, redressed the table but only gave him a half a pint back. The roasts was disappointing, for the price. We don’t mind what the food costs as long as it’s worth it but 3 roast potatoes, a Yorkshire, with I have to say yummy parsley in, 1 slice of beef, a few carrots and the mundane red cabbage wasn’t worth the price. Couldn’t fault the dessert but not happy with the service charge that was added. Considering I got very wet they could have at least waived the SC.

Moderated expectations as booked only a few hours before lunch on a Sunday. Blown away by the host, exceptional skills and clearly well versed at managing a busy restaurant. Visible owners working as hard as staff. Wait staff are delightful, knowledgeable and efficient. The food….well, I have not had roast beef like that in years! The chefs are clearly skilled. This was an extremely busy restaurant, the food was uncompromised and came out hot! No mean feat. In a county filled with chain restaurants or franchises, The Plough Coton prevails. Looking forward to making this our new local/not so local pub just for the leftover roast beef.

3.30pm table for a Sunday lunch, table ready on time, despite being obviously busy. We had some olives and went straight for roasts as we were hungry, and our mains arrived in less than 10 minutes. Unfortunately, it was downhill from there. The vegetables were just about warm enough not to send back the whole plate, which also wasn't very warm. The porchetta was nice, but not a lot of it, similarly the gravy. When checked by FoH, we said the vegetables weren't hot but didn't want to send the meals back, so maybe could we just have some hot veg sent out. Extra veg and gravy was delivered quickly, but again, not hot. Parsnips were not topped or cored, and therefore hard and woody. The carrot also not topped, but otherwise nicely cooked. Cabbage underseasoned on the plate. The roast potatoes were poor, not even coloured on the outside, let alone crispy. Definitely not roasted for more than a cursory few minutes. We also ordered sides of hispi cabbage with smoked bacon and cauliflower cheese. The cabbage was clearly not hispi, likely savoy, and the bacon not really cooked. Cauliflower cheese was nicely cooked, not very cheesy, more a flour-based white sauce, and for £5 a very small dish. Nevertheless, this did reach the table hot, so was enjoyable. All in all, we got fed and watered, but won't be going back. The welcome and service was basic, and for olives, 4 drinks, 2 mains, and 2 sides £75 would have been fine if the food had been good. Unfortunately it was was not. Nobody senior attempted to discuss our complaints or dissatisfaction at any stage so we paid, having declined to pay the automatically added service charge, and slipped away as quietly as possible.

When we came back in the evening we found that we had been shown the menu for the weekdays and not the weekend most of the food on the menu were roasts. We ordered steak as it seemed the only good thing on the menu it was ok however it came with chips that were unsuitable for the dish which cost per a person £38 we believe the value of the meal was likely to be half of what we paid and the chips were the same ones they were using for roasts. I must admit I was a little disappointed. Food was nice, but there was no 'wow' and for the prices, I had high expectations. Sticky Toffee pudding was served barely warm (not hot) and as no-one came to check on it, we weren't able to ask to have it re-heated. However, we mentioned this to a waitress when the dishes were taken, and she was very apologetic. She admitted that as they had not checked on the desserts, we were not given the opportunity to ask for them to be heated, so they kindly deducted the cost of these from our bill. Service was just a bit lacking - my friend asked for no tomato with her burger, and a huge slice of tomato came. She had to ask twice for mayo with her burger and more than half of her meal had been eaten before the mayo arrived. Drinks took ages to arrive too. So, pleasant, but a little disappointing. The staff were lovely, however.

Particularly disappointing experience if you prefer to see staff all getting along. Manager was quite rude to many of the staff. I understand passion, but this was unfair to servers and bar staff to point fingers abruptly and angrily, then to respond angrily to customers was quite a shock. Busy day, yes. When we arrived car park was very busy and we did find a parking space , The pub it was absolutely packed inside & outside nice to see , we was shown to our table quickly and it was good table in corner, we ordered drinks they come quickly , there was 6 adult and 1 teen , no one opted for starter only because there was nothing anyone like , so we went straight into ordering 6 roast beef and 1 roast chicken, again didn't seem along wait, meals arrive and looked ok, however one meal come with no carrot ( I say carrot) as it was half of carrot, and one meal carrot was burnt, and one meal come without gravy, however we notified the service and the quickly brought out bowel carrots and small gravy boat! the carrots had lovely taste, now beef was tender and good, and the rest of the green vegs, however we all agreed the roast was the lease favorite , more of tough leathery skin hard, portion side little on the small side, the roast beef meals, however the roast chicken was massive dinner half chicken , we all had desserts and these were disappointing, they wasn't home made, 2 x passion fruit mango pavlova the with mango sorbet, exotic fruit salsa & mint gel, ( pavlova 2 little small disc shop bought just) these won't nothing like we expected and taste bland, had to ask for cream!! they were bland !! 3 x sticky toffee pudding with butterscotch sauce, salted caramel ice-cream & white chocolate crumb, they were better , 1 x Macerated Strawberries with meringue, strawberry sorbet, granola & basil gel, ( meringue was the broken up pavlova) had to ask for some cream!! overall the same as the passion fruit mango pavlova, 1 x chocolate brownie and ice cream, for teenager who struggle to eat, as it was rock hard to cut and even worse to eat, we all eat our desserts even though not the best , more because of the cost , Overall would we go again have to think about that!! service was very good and prompt and polite couldn't fault because it got extremely over busy, and the service still kept up well done,

Can’t thank the staff enough for their sensitivity and warmth today. We were there for my mums birthday and without any promoting from us, they brought out a lovely sparkler. She was so happy to have people sing and celebrate. But more than that even: my dad has Alzheimer’s disease and they were sensitive enough to offer us a separate dining room, as well as allowing him to order slightly different to the menu. The steak was sliced up, making it easier for him to use cutlery. It’s rare to have such a truly understanding welcome, with respect and no awkwardness. The waitress serving us was kind and gently funny. Thank you all so much. We travelled 2.5hrs to be with my parents today, and it made the whole experience so memorable.

Just got back from a lunch here to celebrate the 80th birthday of my wife’s aunt and have spent the drive home quietly stewing (if you’ll pardon the pun). My wife booked the table based on the favourable Tripadvisor reviews. So, with an amazing-looking menu, and eye-watering prices, the six of us were all hugely looking forward to our lunch. Sadly, the reality is a pub that clearly has a grossly inflated idea of its own quality to go with its inflated prices. Ordinarily, I wouldn’t bother writing a review about terrible food – just chalk it up to experience. I told myself this when I bit into my truly awful rib-eye steak for the first time, and even said this to my wife when I gave up on it two mouthfuls later. But when the very well-tailored manageress/owner(?) came over to enquire how our meals were, my wife decided to let her know that my steak was not good. Her reaction? “Well, you’ve managed to eat it all.” Yes… if you ignore the huge slab of undigestible meat skulking behind the beaker of sauce on the plate. She wasn’t content to leave it there. After the initial sarcasm, I was treated to a patronising mini-lecture about rib-eye steaks and how chewy they can be (frankly, at this point I should have just told her that it was simply badly undercooked). I half-expected her to admonish me for ordering it in the first place. Instead, rather than reading the room, she chose to admonish me for not raising the issue earlier – apparently, I could have had something else, but given the interminable time it took for the food to arrive in the first place, I didn’t fancy my chances of avoiding another extended wait. In hindsight, I should have said this. But being typically English, I sat like a scolded schoolboy and tried in vain to bat away my embarrassment. Anyway, as it turned out, I wasn’t the only one at the table who was unhappy: My seven-year-old daughter, who will demolish pretty much any pizza put in front of her, had very quietly pushed her pepperoni pizza to one side after a couple of mouthfuls; my other daughter – having tried and failed to scrape the huge quantity of sea salt off her battered fish (who puts this much salt on a child’s portion?!) – also gave up; and my wife’s cousin, who had ordered the Welsh Rarebit, announced that it looked like two pieces of bread with a rather suspicious-looking blancmange dolloped on top. Apparently, it tasted as bad as it looked. The positives? Lovely atmosphere and service (with the obvious exception!) and the fries were gorgeous – although sadly not enough to go round everyone.

The pub is lovely with nice atmosphere and fantastic table cloth and flowers. Good and friendly service too. The food unfortunately was a bit of a disappointment. The croquette was average but the burger was really boring. The burger was undercooked with no salt, the fries were clearly the frozen ones and very small bun. What a shame!

Had a fantastic evening here. Walked across from Rectory Farm hotel and The Plough had such a lively and relaxed atmosphere coming in. - service was top notch, even moved us to a bigger table cause we ordered sides - food was a-mazing. Had the scallops and classy ‘ham, egg and chips’ to start. Mussels and fish cakes as mains. Delicious sides - Caesar salad esp! and broccoli Wine was really good Found it very reasonably priced for the quality of food, service and restaurant

Excellent food. I ordered from the blackboard on Sunday while my wife had the roast sirloin. The homemade tortellini with feta and red pepper was absolutely wonderful. For main, I had seabass with beure blanc, Jersey potatoes and asparagus. It was sublime. Someone in the kitchen knows how to conceive and produce excellent dishes. It was all the more impressive, considering this was a "Sunday Roast lunchtime" when the roasts would be the msin focus. My wife's roast sirloin was spot on. Well done, everyone.

Came here on a Monday in our motorhome hoping to stay overnight in the enclosed area at the rear if the pub. As it was a Monday the pub was closed. It was 7pm and we had just started looking for another parkup when the owner pulled up behind us. He apologised he was closed and offered to let us in anyway. OMG, how amazing, we thanked him and offered him some money, which he flatly refused. If you ever read this review sir, we both thank you for your helpfulness and generosity. Thanks again from 2 weary travellers. We are only sorry we could not taste your food and ale. Maybe next time.

I went twice recently, once with my wife, and another time with a group of 10 colleagues. Sat outside both times. Great atmosphere. The seafood platter was perfect the first time, both in quantity and quality, especially the oysters. The second time the same dish wasn’t quite as good (oysters distinctly smaller, one kind of salmon and not two, very ordinary bread rather than specialty slices), but my colleagues who didn’t have the first experience to compare with thought it was fine. Perhaps aiming for a little more consistency would be desirable. All the main courses were lovely. Quite a few of the waiting staff were lovely and patient, though the second time, on a busy Friday evening, one of two were clearly somewhat stressed out. Good beers, especially liked the Black Sheep ‘Respire’.
