Visited for lunch today .(14/4) Lovely food, friendly staff and great service. We'll definitely be back 😀

Had a meal here a few weeks ago. Thought it was expensive & not good value for what we paid , £7.50 for a glass of wine & over £11 for a baguette !! I had fish & chips which was ok but nothing special. The other meals were fine . The staff were friendly & the pub is nice . Not likely to go back

Well this has gone downhill… visited tonight. One of the first ones in there. We travel 3 hours and always go to this pub regularly. The service was slow. We were given a lunch time menu however the menu just said ‘£10 dishes Monday to Friday’ so we weren’t actually aware when ordering and no one mentioned it either. The ‘manager’ didn’t tell us, he said ‘I’ve catered to you but it’s the lunch menu’. This was as he brought the food out, we would’ve happily ordered off the main menu if we were told the one we had was a lunchtime menu. The meals were the same as one of our kids meals if not smaller. Disappointed this wasn’t mentioned during the 50 minute wait for the kids size ‘adult meals’. Then to be met with said ‘that okay?’ Not like we had a choice and were starving by then. He was also rude about my daughter saying they had no penne pasta so she had to have tagliatelle and saying ‘she can make a real mess then’ and rolled his eyes. was also trying to joke about the kids being ‘hangry’ and loud, because my daughter was crying as we waited almost an hour for food. As we left, my partner used the toilet. He walked back into the restaurant to them clearing our table stating ‘that was a vile table’ and laughing about us. I called the restaurant for an apology to be met with ‘your choice to order off that menu’ even though we weren’t informed it was a lunch menu.. They all denied saying anything when I called to ask for an apology over what we had heard and were argumentative and rude. Trying to say he was recording me? For complaining they were being vile towards us. Everything was heard by my partner and point blank denied. He was very rude on the phone accepting no responsibility, only blaming us for their mistake. Wont be back again but used to come regularly on holiday for years and years. Was also told ‘ you can make a formal complaint but Donna and Phil won’t beleive that’ I’m assuming they’re the owners? Not too sure but very extremely disheartened and let down.

We enjoyed a lovely family birthday meal last night. Very attentive and friendly staff made us feel exceptionally welcome. The foods was delicious, everyone happy, great kids meals and hearty adult mains. Gorgeous atmosphere at the pig and whistle, highly recommend.

We came in for a family meal around 6.00pm tonight. We try and visit every year on our holidays and have never been disappointed. The staff were friendly and food was very nice. The manager was very attentive as always what a lovely chap he is. We will look forward to our visit in August.

Been wanting to eat here for a while now and had dinner last night. Wow, absolutely delicious! Varied and interesting menu, from pub classics to some more unusual specials, all portions generous, all hot, well presented, and most importantly very very tasty. Loved the building, the atmosphere, staff were lovely. Will be coming back

We took our drinks and sat down....but in the wrong place! Oops. Oh dear! We were asked to move from the 'restaurant' to the 'bar area'. But there was no-one at all in the restaurant when we had to move. Nor was there when we left an hour later. Totally unnecessary and not very hospitable in my humble opinion.

Me and my wife had steak and whistle chicken respectively... My wifes meal was spot on. The whistle chicken is very good but the steak I had was really poor. I asked for medium but recieved a poor cut of meat which was very dry. I did mention this when our table was cleared and recieved 25% off my meal. Which to be honest wasn't really satisfactory as I left most of the steak. Also when I payed the waitress behind the bar was sniffing up. So I moved back

Thank you so much for welcoming us on New year's eve. We were turned away by The Court Farm at Abbotskerswell even though we had booked. They were terrible. But we were rescued by the Pig and Whistle. They managed to accommodate us with no notice and the food and service was terrific. Thank you Pig and Whistle. In future, I say Pig and Whistle, not Court Farm.

The food here is exceptional, well cooked & presented. Not over priced either. Full table service which is lovely. Love everything about this place & its staff.

No pigs and hardly any whistles. Highly misleading. Beer was top notch and selection of tipples better than most.

Met for a large family gathering for which the parking is good. The food was ok (Sunday lunch) but not the best I've had and there weren't very many vegetables. I think more imaginative vegetable accompaniments than cabbage and carrots would be nice. The service was ok considering it was a bit squashed.

Had a family meal. Good choice and food was lovely and portions were generous The staff were very pleasant . I would recommend a visit and we shall return.

Went for a Christmas lunch with friends. Excellent service, delicious food. The Pig & Whistle is a lovely old pub with plenty of parking. We have eaten there many times and the staff are always super helpful and friendly. Definitely a great place to eat.

Never used this before?! we visited for a quick lunch today with my nan, she was so pleased i promised her i would leave a review for these guys an amazing team. Manager and the 2 young girls were so friendly. The food was amazing really impressed, there was a loud noise coming from ceiling 😂 but we thought maybe the roof was getting done for the new season 🥶 really recommend i had the belly pork and nan had the fish

Excellent experience from booking to eating, ended up being 30 mins late for our booking due to a cow herd on the moove, they were super accommodating, friendly and a good laugh! Hard to find theses days! Food was fab, well worth the 2 hour journey we will be back. Many thanks. Pic for evidence.

We had the 10 pound menu we had chicken and ham pie the pie was OK but the presentation was not good and is was cold the only heating was a oil field heater with only 3 wheels not very safe

My family (8 adults) visited the Pig and Whistle today for roast dinner. I had a delicious nut roast with miso gravy, the rest of my family had beef, lamb and pork, and everyone commented on how tender the meat was, also there was a great range of fresh, perfectly cooked veg. All the puddings were yummy and just the right amount (not too big). The service was good, especially the super friendly welcoming bar man. Previously I have been here and had an average/good experience, today I felt there was a real improvement in the quality of food and cooking. Thanks to all the team...we had a great evening!

Came to the pig and whistle today for a sunday lunch. we had the most welcoming entrance, the roasts never fail to impress us! we haven’t been down for a couple years so thought we’d give it a go and are we glad we did!! it was a very busy lunch service with very little staff but they were still attentive and you could see they were doing there best we got a food order nice and snappy which we were grateful for. we will definitely be back as such a lovely restaurant

Absolutely fabulous Sunday lunch, celebrating a special birthday. 11 of us and we all had yummy roast dinners. Loads of veg. Hard working staff were friendly and efficient at a very busy time. Lovely touch of a cupcake and candle for the birthday boy.

Superb lunch to celebrate my father's birthday, Donna's hospitality was spot on and made the atmosphere the perfect place for any occasion. Highly recommended.

We have been here a few times but not since lockdown. The staff were very helpful, chatty and friendly. What more can you ask for? We were greeted by dog biscuits on the table. A nice touch, as a dog owner sat in the bar area….The food was top notch for pub food - I knew it was going to be good by the standard of the soup (that had been passed (if you know, you know))…. Had a £10 lunch offering of veg lasagne - honestly, it was superb. Not stodgy, gorgeous sauce…my husband had their pie, full of meat, and said it was excellent. Customers who were paying were saying how good their food was and were there because of recommendations. I don’t review unless I have an excellent meal. Think we might go back next week. You won’t be disappointed.

First visit having driven past for forty odd years. Very impressed with the food - my husband chose the £10 'small plate' lamb roast: no way could it be described as small! Three slices of tasty lamb, Yorkshire pudding, roast potatoes and 4 veg. He was one happy man! I chose the prawn sandwich and it was one of the best I've had - lots of prawns and lovely fresh granary bread. Couldn't fault it. Staff were friendly and efficient. We'll be back.

Lovely roast dinner. Custard with pudding came in a jug, with a very small amount. Requested more, which eventually came. Seating a bit tightly squeezed in, but overall a good experience.

A nice character pub with a good atmosphere, went for lunch the food was really good, definitely recommend.

We stopped here on the off chance. What a great find! Staff very courteous and helpful. Huge menu of locally sourced ingredients. I chose tomato soup plus toasted cheese sandwich, absolutely lovely. My husband had the green Thai curry. Lots of chicken in this and he said it was delicious. Great big carpark and lots of seating.

Took the family out to lunch, enjoyed the food. Didn't do a overnight stay there.

Staff were very attentive, friendly and welcoming. The menu and specials menu had a wonderful selection of meals that are unique to this venue, normally we would find it difficult to choose a starter or meal due to nothing appealing to us, this was a very different situation where it was very difficult to choose due to such a wide and varied selection of dishes...will definitely recommend and return.

Had Sunday lunch here, friendly and timely service. The Sunday roast was outstanding, the best I've had in a long time. So good that we have booked for the week after. Note it's necessary to book well in advance if you want a reasonable time to eat. We booked in the morning but couldn't get in before 3:15 - however it was well worth the wait!

Visited here twice whilst staying near by on holiday for the week, amazing food, great customer service and dog friendly aswell, can't fault the place, would definitely recommend, and can't wait to come back next year,

Went at lunchtime and only had a sandwich each. Was met warmly and offered a seat straight away. Went to the bar for drinks and was politely told to take a seat and our drinks order would be taken there. This was done promptly by the waitress. Our food order was taken after this and arrived in an appropriate time. Waitress was excellent, polite and friendly. Beef sandwich was very tasty, and a good portion. Enjoyed every minute of our visit and will definitely be going back for a meal next time. Pleasure to visit a pub/ restaurant like this with this quality of food and service. Well done to all the staff.

Lovely meal taken on the terrace . Warm welcome from a nice gentleman behind the bar . Steak cooked as I requested ( a rarity in this country) . Hubby enjoyed his fish and chips Good value

Our menu choices were taken promptly, but there was then such a long delay (approx 45 minutes) that we were prompted to request when our meals might arrive. The waitress advised that ours was due after two other tables who we had noted ordered after we did. Meals then arrived almost immediately, from which it appeared we had been forgotten, and consequently these turned out to be lukewarm, so one had to be returned to be re heated. Also our table had that sticky / tacky surface you sometimes come across, and some staff didnt have much idea about the environment, as cleaning sprays and cloths were left in full view on the bar and tables. I'm afraid there are better establishments at lower prices in the area.

Don’t often leave reviews, but credit where credit is due. Visiting family and googled this restaurant/pub. So glad i did. what an amazing find. Food delicious, staff attentive and even taking about how we could eat it again - 24 hrs later. Had the signature chicken dish. After a recommendation, we drove up from Dartmouth harbour to this pub. It's advisable to book w/e but we just dropped in.

As regular visitors to Devon, we have eaten at the this establishment many times. Great selection of beers and delicious food. Highly recommended.

Started well with a nicely chilled good glass of the house Pinot. I had the Whistle chicken and hubby the steak and Jale ale pie both were delicious, hot and plenty of it. Lovely roast dinner which was slightly spoilt by the tiny side plate of veg. When we questioned it we were met by a sullen faced member of staff who reluctantly went and got another side dish. We had 2 roast dinners so should have had veg for 2 people. Another veg was given to us but no apology. When we mentioned it when paying we were told the mix up was due to my vegan nut roast as it doesn't normally come with vegetables. Not quite sure why a nut roast would only contain a meat substitute, potatoes and gravy ??? We have been coming here for years and have always had a brilliant meal and service. Management... you need to up the customer service training with your staff !!

Beautiful country pub. Really good pub food. Has amazing history to it. My only complaint was the staff, they weren’t very attentive, even though it wasn’t very busy, they also had a lot of ‘work’ conversations out aloud with in ear shot of us. I would go again and just hope there has been some extra training to the staff.
