The Pheasant Inn in Central Bedfordshire

Outside seating area very well laid out and efficiently handled by friendly Staff.To conform with Covid-19 restrictions.The covered Capsules were all Reserved and a great investment for outside eating. The food was excellent, the portions very good and very sensibly priced.Our party of four had different dishes accompanied by excellent chunky chips.A most enjoyable lunchtime, top marks to the Pub Kitchen and the Staff.

What can I say ‘The Pheasant Inn’ has pulled it out the bag again with their takeaway service during Covid. Had a fantastic Sunday roast takeaway, and couldn’t fault it. Beef and Pork cooked to the usual high standard and served with all the trimmings. It is prepared fresh for your arrival so it’s nice and hot (no cutting corners just because it is served as a takeaway). Quick and efficient service on collection. Will certainly be recommending. Well Done Carys and Richard.

Awful. Start to finish. Sat indoors which was fine, but all they were interested in were the ‘pods’ !!!Drinks were slow...but the drinkers with no ‘scotch eggs’ lol seemed to have drinks when they wanted !! Gov guidelines ???Also put a log on the fire !!!Service was miserable bar 1 girl who was very jolly, food........no comment !! But I have plenty Food was, well, mixed girl.....a hard meal to cook, but every meat was over cooked. Partners meal was ‘ ok’. And before you say why wasn’t this mentioned ...the table wasn’t checked !!!! Before we could order deserts which we wouldn’t of....our bill was placed on our table even tho a drink had just been brought to us and was told we had to leave. This was the most the waitress said all night ..Comical Overall....book a pod as service looks 5*.

We visited here for lunch and had one of their outdoor pods. It was fantastic, very cosy with cushions and blankets and a little heater. Still a little bit drafty though. The food was excellent and the staff were really Friendly. Would highly recommend to anyone.

Covid safe breakfast meet up where you can be warm and sit outside under cover! Friendly staff and fab breakfast choice, good veggie breakfast too and coffee included. Toilets clean and staff masked up!

I we have just been into the pheasant and what can i say othrt then it was absolutely brilliant, the food was excellent and the staff were amazing so friendly and made us feel very welcome. I will definitely go back there. Highly recommended visiting the pheasant.

Booked a ‘pod’ sort of last minute and what a pleasant surprise. Fantastic festively decorated pod and excellent food. Combine this with pleasant and helpful staff, well worth the drive!

You can always rely on The Pheasant to deliver the goods. We booked an outside pod which was warm and cosy. A little draughty, but we all brought blankets and sat on the ones provided. Decked out for Christmas it looks lovely on arrival. It was our Christmas gathering - outside. Service was excellent with covid rules in place. Our starters and mains were delicious. No room for puddings. Thoroughly recommend eating here it is 100% every time. We are lucky to have this pub on our doorstep.

Had a very enjoyable meal in one of the pods all decorated out for Xmas. Staff did us proud having to be in and out of the restaurant. Would definitely recommend this pub. Never had a bad meal here.

My wife and I were joined by sister and brother in law for lunch. We sat in a “Pod” which was in the garden. The pod was heated and we were also supplied with a lovely blanket to keep our knees and legs warm. The quality and quantity was excellent, price not excessive for what we had. We will most certainly be back to this very friendly pub in the Cotswolds

We were drawn to this country pub by the line of outdoor pods (particularly appealing during Covid, but I'd imagine they're always popular!) We didn't manage to bag ourselves a pod but we all enjoyed a thoroughly delicious meal here. The food was even better than we expected. Good beer garden with friendly staff, and don't let the road side location put you off - it is the Cotswolds after all! Would certainly come back when next in the area.

Had a fantastic evening at The Pheasant, food was fabulous as always. The outdoor pods are great. A big thank you to our waitress Andrea couldn’t of been more helpful.

We were on holiday nearby at Winchcombe Caravan and Camping Site. We visited this pub 2 nights in a row. There was an excellent choice of meals at very reasonable prices. The meals we received were well cooked and presented with plenty of food. The service was very polite and efficient. We would highly recommend this place.

A friendly, cosy pub with well distanced tables which also allows dogs. There is an extensive menu with lots of choice. There was a small wait for the food to arrive which we didn’t mind as it was clearly freshly cooked. The staff were friendly and we enjoyed our meal - the chocolate cheesecake was particularly good. My only slight issues were that the fish pie was very salty (maybe a question of taste but it’s easier for someone to add salt if there isn’t enough) and the lady behind the bar throwing empty bottles in the trash was a bit noisy.

We had not booked,but were rapidly seated . The place was plesasntly busy--full of locals it would seem--always a good sign. Menus produced & drinks order taken in double quick time. From then on we enjoyed a really great meal..Service & food great t& reasonably priced.

This is the first time that we have visited The Pheasant and we thoroughly enjoyed our lunch. It was busy, but all the staff were still very pleasant and attentive. We will definitely be back.

We visited with friends for lunch. It was busy, but still covid safe. The staff were personable, engaging and entertaining. The food was excellent. The pea risotto with cod was outstanding and the steaks were delicious. The pub was full of atmosphere and the whole visit was fun. Definitely worth a revisit!

We had an excellent meal tonight in this lovely pub ,food great quality and plenty of it ,i had broccoli and potato soup followed by lasagne with a beautiful salad

We dropped into the Pheasant on our way back from Stow on the Wold for Lunch. A warm welcome and Covid Formalities cleared with ease. Great choice of menu from snacks to full meals W chose the Cajun Chicken burger and the ham egg and chips, Great service excellent food and plenty of it. A very clean and efficiently run pub. Toilets spotless and all the warnings in place without being obtrusive

We had a lovely dinner at the Pheasant Inn. Very large portions! The service was very friendly and the pub is welcoming. If we lived close we would visit again, but we would definitely recommend!

Stopped here for lunch yesterday. Holidaying in the area so went on a recommendation of a friend who visited a few weeks ago. Very pleased to say that we had a lovely lunch. Staff were very friendly, good covid precautions and processes in place and plenty of space around the whole restaurant. Food was very good, large and tasty portions. Large choice of dishes on menu and all at a very reasonable price.Will certainly visit again when we are in the area next.

We came for dinner and really enjoyed it. The food was perfectly prepared and the service friendly. The portions are huge and excellent value. We’d definitely visit again when in the area. Recommended!

Today was the second time we have eaten at this well run Inn in recent weeks.The place is adhering very well to Covid restrictions.The food and staff are a credit to the management of inn.It won't be long before we visit again.Thank you to you all.

We ate here as a family Great service Food was hot and tasty We came on a Thursday evening so had steak as per the special offer The chef cooked as per my sisters requestI wanted rare to medium but it was more medium to rare -still tasty Covid restrictions observed We sat by the open exit door which was a little chilly as the evening went on Staff were friendly and helpful

Had a very enjoyable meal here.It was a thursday evening and the place was busy (covid restrictions busy) so had a good atmosphere about it.They have a pub garden that looks great with little pods.The food tasted good and was very reasonably priced.

We had a lunch time visit. The food, beer and service was all we could ask for.It was a sunny day and the outside front garden was a picture withthe cabins and people enjoying their lunch. We visit quite often and havenever been disappointed. Well done all.

Very welcoming even with covid restrictions in place. Spotlessly clean, you can see into the kitchens from the bar. Staff are warm and welcoming and very helpful. We were given menus and our drinks order taken within5 minutes of being seated.The menu serves traditional pub food but with lot more refined. We had steaks with all the trimmings, cooked perfectly, the food came out hot and very plentiful. Deserts are delicious and really large portions. I would definitely go back to the pheasant for a meal.

Ordered a beef roast dinner, this came out pretty cold other than the broccoli. Ordered the roulade for dessert which came out mouldy! Had mould spots on and they continued to serve it to other customers after I had returned my dessert. They offered to replace the dessert which I declined as I felt very put off.

As always...wonderful food, fabulous service, great atmosphere...still our absolute number one favourite place to eat out 😃 Been regulars for over 4 years! Love this place!

We are very lucky to call this our local. Sunday lunch is not only delicious but plentiful and very good value. They have good COVID measures in place and the pods outside in the garden are great.

As mentioned by other reviewers, this pub has done all the it can to proof itself again Covid-19, including installing outdoor pods which look pretty weather resistant. The only observation I made that is any way critical is that the young servers looked pretty terrified every time they approached table! That said, the greeting was warm, the food was freshly cooked , generously portioned, and very good value for money.

Haven't been to this pub for a while due to the lockdown etc. and so nice to see it up and running again. Excellent precautions taken in every conceivable way against the the Covid 19. As before in previous visits the Sunday Roast was absolutely superb and faultless. Staff very polite and very helpful and such a prompt service. If only all the pubs were this good.

The was a good lunchtime find. Pub was busy but there were tables outside. Menu very varied. Food was well cooked and presented. Fish cakes with salad very tasty along with the seafood board. Staff were very friendly. Will definitely be back if in the area.

Our third visit and perhaps our favourite Cotswolds pub.We visited last week and both service and our lunches were as good as ever.We have always visited for Sunday lunch previously but tried the Steak and Ale pie which was excellent.Very friendly staff too and it was nice to see the place quick fill up.The Pheasant Inn is ideally situated for Broadway, Winchcombe as well as the Steam railway which is a short distance away.Very nice food at reasonable prices too.Please support our pubs.Visited August 2020.

Impromptu pub lunch, having spotted the "pods" out in the beer garden, which were a great novelty. Lovely food, definitely worth the short drive, and will visit again when we next holiday in the Cotswolds.

This our nearest pub and we are so lucky to have it on our doorstep. We’ve seen Carys Richard & the baby sitting in the garden with paddling pool during lock down and they have made a fabulous job of making the pub look it’s best for re opening end of July. I popped in for lunch with a friend last week. Service impeccable. Social distancing and careful handling of plate/ cutlery delivery/ collection. In one way out another. Food as always delicious and good value for money. Passed by today and tables outside at lunch time are pretty full. Car park full & it’s a Monday. Well done. You’ve got it all just right.

Four or us called in here by accident if lm being honest. We had originally planned to go to the cafe at the railway station but it was closed. Hence the pub was the next option. Just made it in time with minutes to spare before they stopped serving the breakfast menu....phew!I had the breakfast bap which included three fillings of your choice and I opted for sausage, bacon and egg. Great service from the staff and in next to no time it arrived. Goodness me it was very tasty, but then l had just ridden 60 miles to get there....lol

Excellent tasty food with a good selection of local ales. Portions are larger than expected, quality is very good. Staff are friendly. Thoroughly recommended

What can say, The Pheasant has certainly made use of lockdown time making the establishment safe and very COVID friendly. Felt very happy and safe whilst we visited here in Wednesday evening. Food as always was second to none, starters of Brie wedges, Chestnut Mushrooms followed by steaks.... just sorry we couldn’t manage a desert. Staff very attentive and professional in this strange time.!! WELL DONE... will certainly be back ....

Not as good as usual , tried the home made Nachos starter which were very greasy. The fish platter starter was nicer however Fish and chips not as tasty as usual . The beer which is normally lovely was served too hot.For COVID 19 sadly and concerning social distancing was poor, a table was in touching distance of our table, a couple were given this but shortly after sitting asked to move, as rightly so they were not comfortable with it, shocking really. Due to the close proximity we were chatting away to them ,and agreed with them on the issue.Not helped also really due to an extremely hot night which obviously was no fault of the pub but overall not the best of times !

Tried this pub on the first day of the Government incentive Eat Out to Hep Out. Phoned ahead and pre-booked a dining pod, however there are plenty of benches outside and tables inside. Pleasant, efficient staff. Large portions and good quality food. Very reasonable prices even outside of any special deals. Would definitely recommend and will be going back next week!

Stopped in for dinner with a friend. Charlie looked after us brilliantly and couldn’t have been more welcoming and helpful in finding us a table in the wonderful snug! Excellent food and great drinks. A place really worth making a special visit for!

Visited with a large group having pre booked our lunch requirements. Once seated starters came out and very good they were to. Prawn Cocktail, very tasty as was I am told the whitebait. They were very busy so we had a bit of a wait for main course but again very good. Excellent portions of meat etc . As for desserts , the lemon pie looked amazing. Well done to all staff .

We have been here several times since the new regime took over and generally it has been very good, not so today. We tried to eat gammon but it was totally cremated and so salty so returned uneaten. Received a mild “sorry” but no offer of a complimentary coffee or similar. The scampi was also very salty, what’s going on in the kitchen! Not the way to treat customers.

Managed to get a late booking for valentines day.Staff very helpful.Food was pretty good and fairly priced.Food came quick and pipping hot. Good size portions.Recommended for good honest pub grub.Btw order your food at the bar. Don't sit there like a lemon waiting to be served, like I did.

Brilliant food, something for everyone. really enjoyed aour choices and the staff were very accommodating given that we had no reservation. it's a very popular place, reservation would have been good but they were great.

Ate here yesterday with family have been here several times and the food is always excellent . Good food good service and yummy veggie/vegan food and delicious puddings will be back again soon.

We have visited here a few times on our way to Wales. The staff are exceedingly friendly and helpful. We had two dogs with us and were given a table in a corner. The food was excellent. I had the mushroom and cranberry Wellington which came with the most delicious port and cumberland sauce.

Managed to get a table for 5 on a busy Sunday afternoon, we hadn't booked but staff were very accommodating and made space for us - it probably helped that we arrived just after a rush. Between us, we had three starters; two garlic mayo mushrooms and olives with sourdough bread. Absolutely fantastic, for mains we had a roast beef dinner, vegan dinner, mushroom wellington and two children's meals. The food was delicious, can't fault it. Actually I can, there was far too much of it (but we all managed to finish). Staff were all lovely, including the chefs who were chatting happily in the kitchen when I walked past to go to the loo. Extensive vegan menu, meat eaters were well looked after too! Too full to eat pudding but they looked gorgeous. I highly recommend this lovely pub and we will definitely be back. Really, really good value for money, compared to other pubs in the area.

Absolutely fantastic. Still stuffed now and we left hours ago. Great bit of bait Kids food was brill and the vegan menu was plentiful

Our first visit yesterday evening my and my partner had the valentines menu I had chicken and my partner had venison casserole he loved it I enjoyed mine too so nice to have probably cooked fresh food was lovely then we had a sharing pudding that was also yummy and we both enjoyed it great value for money glad I didn’t take any notice of all the negative comments your all doing a great job top marks from me

If you like proper British pub food this is the place for you. We had some of the real classics and they were all beautifully cooked, fresh and piping hot. Very generous portions. Will definitely go again. Fab stuff.

Warning...it is wise to book in advance as this venue is always busy due to the high quality of delicious food and good service. Always a pleasant experience, the atmosphere matches the quality of food

Visited this place 3 years ago and had a lovely meal so 're visited yesterday. There were 11 of us and the staff were very accomadating they sorted a table for us right away even though we hadn't booked, we all enjoyed a lovely meal so thank you very much to all . Merry Christmas and a happy New year.

Good service, generous portions, tasty food and reasonable prices so what’s not to like! It’s not fine dining and the atmosphere was very buzzy as befits a popular pub.

We went for Sunday Lunch in early December and the pub was busy with Christmas parties, which was great to see.

We had a lovely festive lunch with friends at The Pheasant. The pub was warm and cosy with an open fire, the table was nicely decorated and we all got a Christmas cracker....

It’s a pub with a very nice restaurant.

Tasty food. Pub has a nice atmosphere. Service was efficient. There was lots of choice on the interesting menu except for our daughter who is a vegan. She had the vegetable curry as this was the only vegan option. The other three of us had starters but there was nothing available for our daughter as we were told that the vegetable soup was cooked with butter.

Visited today for a meal at lunchtime. Didn't book but they found us a lovely table by the window. Both of us had steak. Can honestly say it was the best meal we've had out in a long time. Everything on the plate was perfect. Could not fault a single thing. Bar staff were excellent and our 'waitress or server' whatever they're called these days was a little sweetheart. Well done. We'll be back.

Very noisy, some food delicious some awful. Some staff very rude and don’t listen to what is ordered so a lot of waste.

Eaten here twice in the last few days. Friendly staff, good choice of food. With a few specials too ! I had seafood pie and had veg on the side . Really good value and I had cheesecake and cream . Quite large portions too !

Good choices on daily specials menu and regular menu but the generous portions meant we had no room for pudding. Accessible if you have limited mobility. Order food and drinks at bar.

We took mother in law who was in a wheelchair, for her birthday lunch. We hadn’t booked a table, but the staff were very helpful and accommodating.

Had a Sunday lunch here and we were so disappointed. The beef was so tough we struggled to cut it and the vegetables were over cooked- broccoli was olive green and inedible. Children’s chicken goujons were deep fried in thick batter and tasted like old fat was used.

I stopped here 2 years ago on a cold fall afternoon. I had the pork with apple, swede, cabbage and pork stuffing. it was delicious. it was so good, I wanted to find this pub on Trip Advisor to make this review and to remember the name this time I'm in the vicinity I'll stop in again.

Our new local! Having moved from Winchcombe to Toddington this weekend we walked round to the pub.

Thank you to all the staff for the lovely evening . Party of 11 for birthday meal ,food waiting time & service absolutely fantastic . This was a first for some of my family they will all be returning .

We visited on way to Devon and because we enjoyed the food we called for lunch on way back too. It has a good varied menu with plenty of choice and all freshly cooked fresh produce. All unique home cooked food and not part of a group where you get usual plastic frozen muck.

Six of us for a meal tonight, first time for four of us and all of us really enjoyed our meal and drinks.

It was recommended by gentleman who sells tickets for Hailes Abbey site admission. We gave it a go and were were really glad we did. Nice service, friendly staff. Delicious homemade English traditional food & great value for money!

Visited on a lunchtime just before they finished taking orders for food, a little strange as there we’re still people coming in on a late summers day. We managed to order food before closing although other customers were turned away. Our meals arrived promptly,but we were a little disappointed. Food was all served hot, but lacked flavour. Fish and chips bland, fish pie uninspiring, curry mediocre,and gammon steak good, but chips and garnish very average, basically maybe we expected a little better than basic pub food and service.

Friends of ours invited us to a meal at The Pheasant as they had been there several times and enjoyed it. It is important to book well in advance as they can get very busy and the dining area is not the biggest. A plus feature for me is that they serve a good real ale from the nearby Donningtons brewery. We settled down and studied the extensive menu and specials on the board. My one big gripe is that no-one came to take our order and we were expected to line up at the bar a second time to place it. Surely with the size of turnover of this place they could afford to pay someone to take our order at the table like most other pubs in the area do? The food was served in reasonable time and it was well-presented and tasty. I do recommend The Pheasant for a good, well-priced evening meal but remember to book first.

Went for lunch and impressed enough to write this report. Our (three) meals were excellent and we were especially pleased with the variety of vegetables incuded in the reasonable price. The beer was good too and the staff readily answered any questions.

Arrived on bank holiday Sunday with family for a lunchtime meal.

Thirteen of us enjoyed a splendid lunchtime meal on the last day of August 2019. The service and food was excellent particularly as the restaurant and bar areas were exceedingly busy.

We first went here because it's next to the steam train (highly recommended) and we now visit the pub 3 or 4 times a tear even though it's an hours drive.

We popped in here to see if they were still serving at about 1:45 on a Sunday afternoon, whilst on our way to the local steam railway. The steak and ale pie, at less than a tenner, is absolutely fantastic. Served with lovely chips and 3 fresh vegetables - all piping hot. The locally brewed beer and Thatchers Haze cider are high-quality too. Wish we lived nearer!

Decided to visit here with family, a group of 5 of us. First visit here and we will definitely be back! Everything was excellent. We had 2 lots of the liver, 2 lasagnes and a mixed grill. The steak on the mixed grill unfortunately turned up well done instead of medium rare but our waitress was lovely and sorted that out for us straight away, dealt with it really well, and the replacement steak was nice (closer to medium than medium rare but was still really tasty!). All yummy! We also had a couple of desserts which were delish. Portion sizes are good, food is fresh and tasty, nice atmosphere and not over priced. What's not to like?

We always stop here for lunch when visiting any of the local tourists attractions and are never disappointed. It may not be 'gourmet pub' food, but you do get good honest food well cooked at sensible prices. Wide choice on the main menu and a good range of desserts too. Yes, it can be a long wait at busy times (and sometimes not-so-busy times too), so we try to get there early and usually it's not too bad. Always plenty of staff on duty, pleasant and helpful, seem to have a good grip on things. Booking is strongly recommended !

A good Saturday night I had Ribeye Steak my wife had fish and chips and our friends had slow cooked pork and Sirloin steak. Compliments to the Chef. 4 Empty plates. And 4 empty plates on deserts.

This place was packed on a Tuesday lunchtime - so they must be doing something right! The formula seemed to be decent pub grub in generous portions and reasonable prices - simple - and it works ! Don't expect haute cuisine - just hearty portions of comfort food! The staff were very friendly and efficient - and the loos lovely and clean.

What has happened to this place? It used to be lovely with amazing food, sadly no longer the case. Me and my husband dined here, and wish we never bothered, the food was clearly cooked from frozen and then reheated in a microwave. Avoid this place at all costs, it was like ordering something from the menu at Wetherspoon!

Wow, what a lovely little find. Went for lunch with my Sister and Niece to celebrate our recent birthdays and what a lovely few hours we had. The food was amazing, the service was very good and it was very reasonably priced too. Very busy for a Saturday lunchtime (always a good sign), we sat by the window in the corner, which was tucked away from the busyness of the main bar. We had a really lovely time and will definitely be back.

We have been to the pheasant several times ‘ the food on this occasion was great ‘ except for the chicken ‘ it was well cooked ‘ but was not of the usual standard ‘ this I believe was down to the chicken ‘ not the chef ‘! We were asked upon paying the bill was everything ok ?? Our complaint was delt with effectively and courteously. We will be back soon as I believe this is one of the best most honest “ pubs/ eating houses in the area , keep up the good work guys

A family party of 3 arrived and were seated promptly. Drinks and food ordered at the bar. It came within the expected timescale. Initially the wrong salad was brought for one of our party, but this was quickly and appropriately sorted out. All portions were healthy and service was excellent. A sensible price paid. It was busy but not noisy and staff were attentive. A good experience!

A friend staying in Gretton for the Prescott Hill Climb suggested a meal, and I suggested the Pheasant. I was aware of the Bugatti Inn at Gretton and nearby Hobnails, but subsequently found that they had closed, so a wise choice. It is all so very accessible, in my case via J 9 of M5.My research indicated new Management keen to make a good impression, and many favourable reviews on Trip Advisor. The Car Park was full, which is always a good sign.

We’ve visited 3 times now over the last few weeks. The food is good quality and what you would expect in any decent pub. Large menu choice, big portions and reasonably priced. The bar is well stocked with local ales. Staff are accommodating even if sometimes they are very busy, an extra member of staff would not go amiss.

The food was lovely and, the service too. The bathrooms looked great and were clean there was also enough space to park your car. You can sit in and outside.

Completely on spec, four of us were lucky enough to get a table with ten minutes notice. This was a surprise when we saw how popular the establishment was.
