Having a rare couple of hours without the children we decided to try out The Penylan. First impressions were good; smart decor, good ambient lighting and a pleasant atmosphere. We were greeted at the door, asked to take a seat and told we would be brought a drinks menu and our order would be taken, so far so good. After being given the drinks menu, we asked for a food menu as well. The waitress then disappeared for quite some time before finally re-appearing with one menu between the two of us. That was the last we saw of anyone for quite a while! We finally managed to get the attention of another member of staff and asked if we could order, they said they would fetch someone and promptly disappeared never to be seen again! Despite obviously having no food or drink on the table and trying to catch the eye of various staff, nobody came to take our order and in the end, fed up with such lousy customer service we decided to leave, at which point the waitress arrived! By now our experience of the customer service had left us feeling that our evening wasn't going to improve so, disappointed, we left. On a positive note we ended up having an amazing dining experience round the corner at Il Pastificio- a real gem of a find which we highly recommend! As for the Penylan, I don't think we'll be rushing back any time soon.

when we first entered we were very pleased. Nice bar just what the area needs. Nice welcoming service. Good selection of drinks and nice design. The not so good. FOOD please avoid the food, for some reason the food is all stir fry. We ordered 4 different dishes but they all tasted the same. All were watery, tasteless and very very poor quality. For the first time in my life we had to send food back. Highly disappointing after such high hopes.I think it should scrap the poor menu and sack the chef and keep its identity as a good wine bar.

Visited these premises recently. Although the premises were smart the prices were extremely excessive. They had run out of draught lager not a good start! Draught cider was £3.30 for a half pint (over £6 a pint). This is not LondonPremises similar in ambience to the Peartree and the Juno Lounge nearby although their prices are far more reasonable. Can't see these premises lasting long unless they re-price

If you have ever wondered what a sewage processing station would smell like if it was bombed with weapons of mass destruction made by Lush, then this is the place for you. About 5 meters through the doors you get the first taste of the delight that awaits you. As you edge closer to Burger King and KFC the sewage odour delights the senses further. If you are brave enough to eat in you can enjoy this enduring odour the the whole of your meal. As 'customers' to the facilities enter and leave the draw with them the heady mix of hot sewage and cheap air freshener with them. Should you venture into the toilets themselves the lungs of a free diver would ease the discomfort you are about to encounter. As you enter the gents toilets the inescapable odour will catch you off guard if you are not careful. The frantic hunt for a clean cubicle only makes the situation more desperate. Small sharp breaths is the only way to avoid retching. I have visited these services many times over the years. They always have an odour but none as bad as it has been over the last few months. It truly has become a grim and rather unpleasant stop off along the M4. I would recommend holding on a few more miles and using the services at junc 34 instead. As for the food offerings. KFC are always slow service food fine, Burger King hit and miss food fine. A good selection of Scaffolders laptops if that is you thing.

Thankfully, This restaurant has closed down. The building has been completely refurbished as Chez-Francis - a contemporary French Bistro and is open for business.

Looking for a no frills cafe to grab a cooked breakfast and saw this place tucked down a quiet side street, just off the busier shopping area. First impressions were fine, standard greasy spoon vibes, just what I expected. One guy was working but seemed to be doing everything - serving, cooking, cleaning etc. I ordered a standard breakfast and tea for £9.50. Tea arrived quick and was OK, mug a bit tea stained but no biggie. Food took around 20 minutes to arrive, not the best as it wasn't busy. It was missing hash browns and the portion was small as it was. Beans were barely warm, mushrooms were freezing and had a tinned texture, sausage, egg and bacon were fine and the toast was, well... not toasted and buttered with cheap margarine so was cold and soggy. All in all a bit rubbish. I feel like the guy running the show on his own was stretched and really wasn't able to provide a decent service. I feel bad as it's clearly an independent business and times are hard, but as it is, I won't be returning and I cannot recommend it.

The food is good, but the communication isn’t. It’s not really professional. When the waitress that hasn’t talked or responded thanks, she then began rolling her eyes. What if she feeds her children?
