Close to the motorway, good parking. Be aware the restaurant is closed by 7.30pm so not ideal for some. My meal was ok pub grub, burger was a little over done so dry with v cheap cheese but if you're hungry it's a huge portion. Good pint of bitter though, and a friendly welcome from both the staff and customers. Room TV didn't have a signal, fortunately that's my scene so I reterminated the aerial plug and it was sorted. Shower drain loose and bed not a great but everything was very clean.

We had my 70th lunch party at the Pebley. The staff were very helpful and friendly, the food was great, especially as we had a large party and the place was busy with Christmas and new year customers. The pub itself has a nice atmosphere and is a lovely building. Finally it was very reasonably priced. Would recommend the Pebley very highly.

Absolutely shocking, dont go! When we got there to check in, was met by a rude lass, got keys to room, carpets going up full of dog hair, the smell was fusty, like it hadnt been cleaned in years, got to room, huge cobwebs everywhere, spiders all over, bedding was stained and throw had mud all over, thick dust everywhere, smell even worse in room and very cold, old worn dirty sofa in room, like off back of a skip, bathroom grotty, wee stains on toilet, grime around sink plug, sh9wer head full of thick grime. Jacuzzi bath was full of hairs, walked straight back out and asked to speak to manager, she came in and was like whats the problem? we explained and she basically said they never have any complaints and what do i expect? its an old building, she scoffed saying it was cleaned daily, I got my refund and left, looked on reviews once out and people had wrote the same as us, so clearly its a common problem! ruined our night completely, they need to seriously clean up their act, its disgusting. they didnt even know how to do a refund, gave me cash in the end. shocking.

Portion sizes were just right and for an excellent value for money. Highly recommend and very likely to come again if staying at the same location!!

Very disappointed. I’d done lots of research about the local restaurants in the area where I’ve recently moved to and this one had lots of good reviews. I booked a table for Friday evening and had conformation of the booking … reminding me that they’d need the table at 20:30. We arrived just before 7pm . On getting to the door we noticed that the lights were all out in the restaurant but that didn’t register with us. We told the barmaid we’d booked a table for 7pm. She disappeared for a few minutes which then made me doubt my booking … I checked that we were in the correct place … which we were. She then told us that as the restaurant was quiet the chef had decided to close it and had gone home! I was so shocked … so we just left without without saying a word! What a great way to run a business. This place is now bottom of our list and we won’t be bothering to try and go there ever again.

Do not waste your time in going here for food. I have never been served such an awful meal and have had better food in a Wetherspoons. Went here for tea in the week. Menu had completely changed and the chef talking to us seemed like he was new. Guessing the restaurant has been taken over. Ordered a ‘pulled pork’ burger which was £17. The burger came out on a normal cob (not a burger bun - which is fine..) but the burger was black and tasted like rubber.. as for the pulled pork, OMG - this was a chopped up grey pork loin which had been put on top of the burger in chunks with a drizzle of bbq sauce. I hate to complain and was really hungry so would normally just tolerate the meal and not go back again but I had to send this back and ask for a refund it was that poor. When asked if I could be made anything else I declined and waited for my partner to finish his meal (who also did not rate his meal but was starving). Oh, and we were the only people in the restaurant at half 6 at night so what does that tell you. We should have known. Will not return.

Drinks took a while at first but then food was soon after and was delicious - all meals were steaming hot, good quality and huge portions.waitress made a fuss of our small children and made us feel comfortable. Kids ate for free which was a added bonus as we didn’t know and should be more advertised as might bring in more custom. We definitely be returning as very local. Would highly recommend.

Let me start by saying that the only problems with the Pebley, in my view, were that the menu was a bit restricted and the portions too big, the service and the quality of the food were always good. With a larger, slightly more adventurous menu the place has gone up a notch in my estimation and although I still feel portions are a tad big, there did seem to,be a small scaling back. The level of service is way above most similar establishments and the presentation of the dishes is pleasing on the eye, whilst the food is pleasing on the pallet. On our recent visit, three of the four of us happened to remark that we would have ordered a particular dish, if they came with one item changed, so they promptly changed the dishes for us, which I wouldn't expect to see in many establishments. We had a sharing starter, which was excellent and three different mains, which were also excellent, but left no room for dessert. The prices are reasonable and although the wait for food was a bit longer than normal, it was to be expected as we followed a large family gathering, in the ordering stakes. The bar staff are also friendly and make good recommendations, so all in all the Pebley is well worth a visit.

Roast potatoes are easy to make. However, Pebley brought a new dimension to this easy brit classic on our visit. Like rock hard bullets (as I complained about them to staff, I watched a poor gentleman trying to cut into his). Inside was a surprise though - grey, old dense potato. Vegetables, this time were a bit disappointing - sprouts were nice.Green beans horrible. Meat was just Ok. This is our second time here and it was evident that a change of chef equals completely different meal (at least I assume it was a change of chef the reason). So, as I said I mentioned this to the staff and although they are nice and polite etc, they didn't respond well to a complaint which was made when they asked me how the food was.Based on this visit I give it 2 stars. On my previous first visit I would've given it 3 or 4.

Was shown to our table which was close to the carvery area and again I could see there was a staff only area but full of clutter and not too clean. Maybe a curtain or something to hide it away? Also not impressed by the guy serving the carvery running his hand over his sweaty forehead and then wiping it on his apron and then carrying on serving food. The meat was ok but the veg were in lots of water to keep them hot and they weren't nice. Love my veg so was disappointed. We were told about the Pebley Inn having been re-furbished recently (it was one of those places I'd passed many times before) and offering great food.A warm welcome when we arrived, a couple of real ales and decent lagers, so off to a good start. We went with starters - garlic mushrooms and pates - and all elected to try the carvery. Good quality meats, reasonable vegetable selection, so all good there. Desserts were also good; we chose ferrero rocher cheesecake, chocolate sundae, spotted dick, and choc pudding. All in all a good hearty lunch, decent value, good service, and glad we've found a great alternative to the chain pubs offering mediocre Sunday lunches. we'll be back!

We had a very enjoyable meal at the Pebley Inn on carvery night (Wednesday). It is very popular so it is advisable to book. It was so good that we went back the following evening for their two steaks for the price of one steak night.

I visited the pebley last week with my girlfriend had a meal then went to sit at the bar I had never been there before and a woman bar person asked my girlfriend ,what do you see in him meaning me she then continued to make abusive remarks and later called me a KNOBHEAD.i am in my forties a company director and enjoy eating out in nice restaurants and do not expect this kind of disgusting treatment from a low life bar woman.to make matters even worse the landlady was in earshot and never intervened.this large bar woman should have been dismissed on the spot but wasn't.i will never go there again and will warn my friends and colleagues about the disgusting staff at the pebley inn.

First time to the Pebley in many years but will be making it a more regular thing after last nights experience. We were greeted by Sharon who was extremely friendly and welcoming. It was Good Friday and we hadn't booked but she managed to find us a table for four which we were grateful for.Plenty of choice on the menu, all the usual "pub classics" along with some other dishes and some specials. We were told that the chef changes the specials at least once a month. All four of four us agreed that the food we received was excellent and reasonably priced. The place itself is traditionally decorated and feels very cosy. Add to this the friendliness of all the staff we encountered and you're onto a winner.Keep it up The Pebley Inn. We would be more than happy to recommend this place to others.

Went for the Thursday steak night 2 for £16 and everything would have been 5/5 but for the rump steaks which were very hard to chew. Wish we had gone for the salmon or paid the extra £3 for sirloin. Chips are home made and the best ever. Staff very friendly. Beers top class and reasonably priced. The pub has been modernised recently and is privately owned (not a chain) the current owners have been there a long time. Will be going again but will avoid the rump.

My wife my self and our two friends one of whom was celebrating his birthday had drinks and food at the Pebley. This is a homely and welcoming country pub with a restaurant with rooms available. There is a good selection of ales and lagers etc. The atmosphere is homely with quite a few locals. We had various starters fried goats cheese, beef slivers with stilton, and main courses varied from steak, steak pie, scallops and seafood all of which were hot and nicely cooked. All in all a very enjoyable evening. The home made chips were a real treat! Give it a try.

Stumbled across this pub by chance while visiting relatives nearby. We couldn't resist the freshly made fish and chip Friday 'special'. The portion of fish was immense - 'whale-sized' was the helpful description from the waitress. Great value for money - will definitely return.

Visited at 1.30 and the restaurant was fully booked. We were offered a table in the bar. Lovely room just a few tables in the small bar area. Staff were friendly and as I was on crutches one of the waiting staff brought my lunch through to me. Fresh vegetables, Turkey wasn't dry and all was delicious. I am gluten intolerant but this wasn't a problem. Would definitely go again and would recommend booking in advance to make sure you get a table.

We have visited here several times in March and May 2014 for meals. We have also introduced various friends all of whom share our opinions if the food and atmosphere. It is a relaxed and friendly dining experience and the food is first class. A Resturant style menu ( non of your run if the mill big standard pub grub here). Each dish has been a taste experience of wonderful food brilliantly cooked. Well worth a visit and enjoy the beautiful local countryside

We visited for a family meal after dropping in for a drink earlier in the week, the menu looked great .. The food was very average standard and didn't reflect the pricing .. Particularly so when our bill arrived !! We questioned our high bill to be firstly told by the waitress that it was correct as the till was playing up .. We asked her again to look at it and had to give her a list of what we had eaten and drank .. She returned 15 minutes later with another bill .. Which again was wrong !! We had to add up our drinks and food !! I dread to think how many other customers were wrongly charged last night

We have driven past this pub on many occasions and then watched as it had a make over so decided to give it a whirl. As soon as you walk in you realise the make over was only on the outside and the inside is still somewhere in the early 80's!!We happened to be there on a friday so fish and chips for lunch was the dish of the day and we decided to try it.Food was fresh and hot. Can't say this is anything special and probably wouldn't be rushing back.

The service was very poor. I ordered a coffee at the bar when we first arrived and then sat down and had a meal then I asked for the bill and the lady bought my coffee and bill at the same time. When I said I wanted the drink with my meal she said she forgot and it was on the bill now anyway. It was very cold inside. The Sunday carvery veg was almost raw and you only get three potatoes. There are a lot better places and better value. I would not suggest anyone goes here for a meal !!!!!!

After reading some good reviews about The Pebley, myself and my family (party of 5) decided to go for dinner on Tuesday. We booked a table for 5:30pm when food started. Our first impressions were fantastic, the restaurant was cosy and welcoming and the menu was very diverse. I opted for the 10oz rump steak, medium rare. I received it medium well but did not want to make a fuss as the waitress already had enough to deal with due to the fact that the pork on the mixed grill another member of my family had ordered was still bleeding. The blood from the pork had dyed the chips pink. Also, pineapple was requested to be put on the mixed grill but still arrived with a greasy egg. The lamb was pretty much inedible and you could tell from the way that the lamb and the steak looked (curled up and crispy) that it had been deep fried. My father cut into a sausage and this was also pink. I do work as a waitress myself and I thought it was common procedure to probe all meats before sending them out to ensure they are cooked properly.. Our waitress didn't say much when the complaints were made.. In fact she didn't really listen to us much at all as we asked for 3 specific things and all 3 came out wrong.. (we asked for no custard on the treacle sponge yet it arrived lathered in it, we asked for a started of pate stuffed mushrooms to come out with the main courses, we received a side order of normal mushrooms, and we asked for pineapple on the mixed grill yet received eggs.) No apology was made from the staff members, just (I'll go and sort that out). Our waitress seemed like she was about to swear when we bought the desert to her attention by saying "shhh".. to which another member of staff finished off the word "sugar". Once we went to settle the bill up we explained that we were not expecting any money off of our bill or such like, but we wanted to bring it to their attention what a disaster our meal had been. All that could be said was "It's strange because the chef always gets great reviews" .. And? A chef sending out bloody pork shouldn't be in a job. I don't think we will be returning here anytime soon.

We stayed here for two nights as our usual accommodation was full and as the location was rural we booked dinner both nights.First, looking at the website it seemed they cared about the food and ale (important part f a pub meal for Bob). First, ale. They have two local ales plus a national. The two locals were sensible ABV one ruby one blonde. Only tried the ruby, excellent. As would be expected the restaurant was really busy Friday night, less so, strangely, Saturday. The menu was varied with five weekly specials. We both had soup, home are, really tasty. Main courses were also very good. Pudding ordered as sticky toffee came up as treacle sponge for Glo. As it append she had tossed up between the two! Saturday we only had a main course, as we had had lunch with family, but again bth dishes were well cooked. As the title says, almost 5 star. Will return

Having just received a free trial of the Tastecard system i scrolled through their website to find which restaurants may be suitable for our group of 4. One i considered that may be ok was the Pebley Inn near Barlborough, Chesterfield S43 4TH, It is located near the M1 junction 30 on a byroad the far side of Barlborough and is also near to Killamarsh. It stands on its own with no other property near by. We went on a Wednesday night when you can choose from a carvery. Initially we went into the tap room which wasn't very appealing, partly due to major renovations being carried out, particularly on the edge of this room. However what a difference when we entered the restaurant. A very cosy old worldly decor and atmoshere. Two of us chose from the a la carte menu, one from the specials board and the fourth from the carvery. Re the carvery a small was £3.99 and a large £5.99. The £5.99 version was chosen All four meals were of excellent quality and really good portions. Although not a large restaurant it was very busy which indicated it is well known and popular. The prices were very reasonable with the carvery being free with the tastecard. That same evening we phoned back to book a table for late December. They also do bed and breakfast.
