Visited the Pear tree sat 21st of December as a couple, after entering the restaurant was met by the manager who is genuinely the rudest manager of any restaurant I’ve ever met in my life, his attitude towards paying customers after asking if the high tea menu was available was shocking! This venue used to have a good reputation and I have heard couple Chinese whispers that it started to go downhill within the past year especially from the fact that the staff are very rude in general, but after being on the receiving end of it I completely understand where other unsatisfied customers are coming from!

Visited tonight to celebrate my son's birthday. Party of 13. First the Highs - great service, generous portions and great food all at reasonable prices. My eldest said steak pie was best he has had. The Lows? I had a ribeye steak which while tasty it was far too well done for a medium, no pink at all. Given it was twice price of everything else, very disappointing.

Had been given a present of a gift voucher for afternoon tea for two. Told that there were no egg or roast beef sandwiches limiting the choice to 3 others of which we could choose 2. The little scones were certainly not today's baking as were the cakes. Overheard others being offered caramel shortcake while our stand only had stodgy looking cakes. So unappetising that we did not bother to ask for a box to take away. The Earl Grey tea was fine, but you can't really go wrong with a couple of tea bags! Don't know if we were offered left over baking (we felt shop bought) because we had a voucher. Thank goodness we were not paying the £12.95 each as listed, because certainly not worth it.

6 of us went there for birthday lunch for my wife. Booked at 12 which was the opening time, and as normal we turned up a little early - 1145. Gate was locked and another car turned up. As there was no movement we spoke to the girl in the car who turned out to be a waitress from the restaurant. Indicated that the boss was obviously late. She was very nice, helpful and slightly embarrassed. We waited until 12 then left as we presumed we would have to wait a long time for fresh food even assuming the owner turned up immediately. Went to Piperdam which welcomed us and provided a very nice meal - thanks Piperdam.Phoned in afternoon to talk to owner who apologised and said he had been delayed on the way in, and also alluded to "personal reasons". I have no problem with that - things happen, however that is all I got - I gave him plenty opportunities to make some form of amends but to be honest he didn't seem interested. Won't be back. Another example of "couldn't care less customer service". Hey ho!

After many weeks pondering whether to revisit this establishment we checked the website this morning and noted the opening times. Menus also looked pretty good. The three of us set off from Blairgowrie and arrived just after 1300 hours. Signs directed us to the restaurant which was open. On entry there was no other patrons in the restaurant. I went to the kitchen door and spoke to a male who was cooking. He informed me they were closed today for a private function. I indicated that there was no note of this on their website. The response was 'she must have forgotten' before turning away and leaving me standing. Not the most desirable way to entice potential customers to return so I don't think we will bother.

Off to a rocky start with a slightly bemused looking waitress when we arrived but our table was ready and waiting, however we we not shown to our seats, we were just pointed in the general direction.Once seated we were asked what kind of tea we wanted, slightly confusing as the waitress meant which menu did we want, dinner or high tea.As we had seen neither we just chose high tea and hoped for the best.Fortunately we were not disappointed. Plenty of choice, traditional favouritesSuch as fish and chips, macaroni cheese, steak pie etc.The food arrived swiftly and was hot , fresh and delicious, although the general concensus that the fish was slightly smaller than other local establishments, however it was very nice and thoroughly recommended. The macaroni was homemade and tasty. The cakes that accompany the high tea are lovely bite size treats.Scones with jam and cream were some of the best I've tasted.Over all a very successful meal out. MORE AT TripAdvisor

I booked a table at The Pear Tree for mother’s day as I had left booking our usual spot too late and they had no tables. I will start by saying that I did look into a number of places. I use trip advisor a lot to check out new places via review before I go. This place has great reviews and I have also been told nice things by word of mouth. I wanted a high tea, at a nice place for nice mother’s day treat. We arrived slightly earlier than booking time and were seated at a table with no problems. We asked for water for the table that came within a reasonable time. We were handed our menus and we had all (table of 3) made our choice within the first 5 mins. This is where my serious gripe comes in. The service is seriously lacking. Service works in restaurants by one main waiter handling a set number of tables. That way the waiter knows exactly how long a table have been waiting, who has ordered etc. We waited and waited for someone to come and take our order. About 20 mins. Bearing in mind – we are coming to eat because we are hungry. It’s a high tea – you’re supposed to be served your toast before your main meal and allow time in-between, right? I cracked when the waitress asked the table that came in after us for an order. It could have been only drinks but I was getting frustrated with the lack of service at this point. I shouted over for service. A different girl came over and asked if we were ok and I said we want to order? She took our order and asked for our toast. Toast eventually came after another wait and it was half cooked and freezing. Have you ever tried to spread cold butter onto cold toast? I know we could have asked for this to be exchanged for darker, hot toast but we were friggin starving at this point. Service starts to get better and our main meal follows not long after. 3 steak pies. I liked the steak pie, it was nice. Chips had a weird taste…like frozen but deep fried? Not complaining really about the chips, I cleaned my plate as did the others. The thing I cannot fault is the selection of cakes. Fantastic. Mini scones on the bottom with jam and cream, mini raspberry tarts, mini coconut and orange slice and mini millionaire short bread. These were all really tasty and just little mouthful sizes so I managed to get a taste of everything. Although I actually couldn’t move afterwards I really enjoyed them. It’s just a real shame the service let it down for me. I didn’t want to complain as I was trying to treat my mother to a nice day, not put a dampener on it. I would also review the prices. I feel its high priced for what it is. Look at competitors… they are like £1.00 difference in price to our usual spot that has outstanding service and is well known for a top notch high tea, in a lovely decorated restaurant and great area (my own fault for not booking earlier). I have had places let me down on service before but pull it back with a great meal - which leads to me going back to try again. 9 times out of 10, the rubbish service from the first time was a fluke. There was nothing about the main meal that made it above average, the interior just feels like a big tried looking living room not a restaurant (remember your charging restaurant prices) and the view of the car park is a bit rubbish. Shame :(

I booked a table a few weeks before although I knew we would have been able to arrive without booking. I wanted to ensure we could get a gluten free High Tea and were assured no problem at all. We arrived and the waitress was very friendly and took our drinks order. We then were seated at a table by the window. We ordered our food and having been here before we wanted to ensure we were still able to eat the fab cakes etc.so we all had half portions. I had lasagne, my friends varied from fish and chips chicken and sweetcorn fricasse and steak pie. Our gluten free friend was offered chicken, salmon, smoked fish and salad by the Chef. She plumped for the ham salad and it looked lovely when it arrived. Everything is cooked fresh so we had a a little wait but we had to catch up and also we were provided with our toast to keep going. Everything arrived together and we all tucked in. My lasagne was the best I have ever tasted and glowing reports were received from my friends. The cakes were then brought and what a delight. My gluten free friend had her own selection of cakes which the Chef had ordered in specially for her. The cakes we had were superb. small delicate scones with butter, jam and cream. Second tier had mini strawberry tarts and tray bake squares and the top tier had delicate mini meringues with millionnaire shortbread. Pots of tea and coffee accompanied these. We were absolutely stuffed and so glad we hadn't ordered full portions. The price was exceptionally reasonable , we will definitely be back and also bring other friends and family. Well Done Ian and staff thank you for an enjoyable meal.

The Tea Pear Tree Restaurant & Larder (as it was called) has now thankfully, ceased to be and it's now "The Pear Tree Restaurant" run by Chef Colin and his Team -- and -- Oh -- What a Difference - -- it's absolutely brilliant all round now. The food is very fresh, very tasty and beautifully presented: the menu choices are (with an added 'Specials Board' offered) excellent with the choice of 'normal' or 'smaller' servings and all very reasonably priced: the presentation of 'locally produced' food is definitely First Class. This visit was for High Tea which included toast, gorgeous dainty cakes and scones - - was delicious and beautifully presented:; the Waiter Service was 1st class: very attentive, very polite, very helpful; I could go on for ages but, suffice to say, you must visit, for Coffee & Cake, or Lunch, or Snacks, or Evening Meal - it's definitely worth a visit - it's BRILLIANT - looking forward to returning many times. We visited this lovely little place at the beginning of sept for my mums birthday. We all had a lovely lunch followed by coffee and cake. Suppose you could say it's a little more expensive than some places but with the quality of food, beautiful surroundings and lovely staff it's well worth it! We will be back again soon it's a real gem in the angus countryside!

Absolutely terrible! Was recommended by a colleague at work. I had the steak it was disgusting and over priced! Then we ordered ice cream waited over an hour and they said they had forgot about it, 5 minutes later they came out with one scoop of ice cream which was £4 absolutely appalling. We have had many bad experiences with food in Angus, definitely prefer my English food!! Shame on you angus. Wouldn't even buy food for my dog avoid!

I was in for high tea with my partner on a Sunday evening, we booked a table which turned out to be a good idea as the place was very busy when we arrived. What can I say? It was just brilliant. It was cold and windy outside and we were sat next to a log burning fire place by our waitress who was an absolute gem, very attentive polite and enthusiastic. For just £14.99 per person we could not find fault with anything. Food was great, staff were great and the place was so cosy and homely. Will most defiantly be back, think I've just found my new favourite. :)

Not in dundee very often but like to pop up for lunch when I drive past it. Always feel I'm welcome as the young ladies are always so friendly . Love the haggis , me being a southerner...this was sold to me by a lovely blonde young girl who was trying to talk me into cake but I didn't have room. Next time for sure. Think this is a family business - makes a difference ...see you in the summer ladies, might bring the mrs next time .....

After a morning walking in the beautiful surrounding countryside, my friends and I went along to the Pear Tree for lunch, which we had booked - we'd even phoned in our order earlier to help the staff. On arrival, we were told to sit at the tables outside as there were so many of us but as the restaurant was empty and it was cold, we asked if we could move inside. Very grudgingly, we were allowed to move into the warmth - but the chill returned as the manager (I presume) handed out our sandwiches/ oversaw the drinks orders being taken. The waitresses were lovely and the sandwiches were good but everything just seemed to be too much hassle for the manager, who even gave a very blunt 'no' in response to our request for two extra bowls of soup. I'm afraid I won't be back.

Looked forward to this all week, as read a lot of hype on facebook, unfortunately hype is all it was! Very average high tea, cold toast, solid (limited) butter, chippy chips and a soggy burger roll! Cakes were best part of the meal but not worth the price. Disapointing to say the least

Decided to travel from Fife for a lunch time visit and wished I hadn't wasted my time or petrol to get there ....The restaurant was cold, so much so that my mother and I had to sit with our coats on throughout the duration of our meal. The rather arrogant chap/server didn't acknowledge our arrival, offered seating and then took at least 10 minutes to come and offer menus.£8.50 for soup and a sandwich!!! Are they having a laugh? The menu was limited and overpriced. I opted for an organic egg sandwich (£4.50ish), the taste of which was overpowered with the most horrible taste of cheap margarine on the shop bought bread. The bowl of soup was in fact a cup of soup (£4ish).It was quite clear that the other three customers sitting next to us were not impressed with the service, menu or temperature either.I was glad to get back into my car and get heated up. Will certainly not return for another visit.

The attention to detail, cleanliness is second to none, the waitresses are so friendly and make you feel you right at tome. There is a Hettie's tea menu which you can choose your own flavours and the food is fresh ad fast to arrive. Accessibility is fabulous and the disabled toilet facilities were welcomed greatly by my son who has mobility issues. We will be returning pronto, well done and good luck in your new venture!!

Only popped in for lunch and was so surprised as its all changed. It's a really lovely tearoom with lovely cakes and teas. Love the china crockery, so quaint . They even do food to go so treated myself to a steak from the chiled area, some fresh farm eggs and rolls. The nicest thing is the people who work here, lovely young waitresses who are so polite. Had haggis and still managed a lovely scone after. They did suggest I come back for high tea so I might just do that. Nice to have somewhere to pick up groceries on the way home.

This small family run business was worth the trip to Dundee from Glasgow! The welcome was extremely warm and friendly, as was the service throughout. I can give no higher praise than say the Lentil soup was as good as my mum's! I had the smokie pot which was rich and flavoursome, my friend had a tasty Yorke Ham sandwich. We both had a scrumptious slice of the homemade bakewell tart! I also really loved the free range meat and other produce on display. The owner was happy to tell us about the provenance of the meat, and about the recipes they used! Decor is quaint, with local artisans wares on sale. A lovely experience, looking forward to my next visit!

We arrived at the restaurant at 6pm and shown our table. a waiter approached with a spray table cleaner in one hand pointing straight at me and in the other hand he held our toast on a toast rack I asked him not to point the cleaner at me .Three of us had a half portion but one member of the party had a full portion of fish and chips and for £14.95 for high tea thought it was expensive.I commented to the waiter that I did not like vinegar and tomato sauce bottles on the table I suggested that he put the sauce in a small dish and asked him to tell the kitchen that but there was no response, No one asked if we were enjoying the meal, but I must say the scones and little cakes were delicious. We had to wait fifteen minutes to get our dirty main course meal plates removed and my husband had to pointedly stare at the waiter to attract his attention. I think one of the waiters may have been new and was out of his depth. We have been at the Pear Tree before and found it to be O K but did not enjoy this visit so much. improve your service
