Lovely afternoon tea with Tinwood sparkling wine. Not just sandwiches for the savoury section which was a nice surprise. Really liked the egg mayo croissants. Having a sausage roll was also a nice touch. Lovely fresh scones. Good selection of sweet treats, including panacotta with apple crumble topping - delicious! Tea was with hot water in a jug and teabags, many cups as required and topped up as needed. Attentive service without being over the top. Thank you

We went here for a special full afternoon tea with a glass of bubbly each. It was presented well on a 3 tier stand, and the bubbly was local and excellent. The let down was that you were expected to make your own tea from a bag and a jug. At that price (c£60 for 2) one might expect a tea pot. One was supplied on demand but it was a cheap tinny thing, out of keeping with the rest of the presentation. No soya milk either. Scones were light and fluffy. Having said all that, it was a pleasant experience and the staff were friendly.

Very friendly service, delicious coffee, but our main courses were a bit disappointing. A ciabatta with smoked mozzarella and caponata was tasty but so hard on the bottom it was next to impossible to cut through, even with steak knives. All 3 of us had the same problem. The smoked salmon salad was uninspired. In general, the chef should do better.

We booked Afternoon Tea for my mum's 75th birthday, after hearing from my friend that Pallant Cafe was amazing. We weren't disappointed, first of all the staff were lovely and so attentive and also mum had a lovely suprise of a complimentary glass of Tinwood fizz ! She loved it and the afternoon tea was delicious, we requested 2 out of 4 of the stands were vegetarian, this includes savoury pastries, tasty sandwiches, scones cream and jam, a selection of sweet treats, we all took a box home too as we could not eat it all, plus copious amounts of fresh coffee and tea, piping hot !! I would urge anyone to visit this delightful cafe , such good value and thank you very much to the wonderful staff. We will be back and I would love to return in the summer also to use the outdoor area. Thank you very much. Jo Brooke/ sisters and daughters & mum xx

I received a voucher for afternoon tea at the Pallant cafe for Christmas, but only managed to find a date in the diary in August - however this was well worth the wait. What a find! The staff were amazing, really welcoming, helpful and nice. We had a glass of Tinwood sparkling wine which was delicious, and the tea itself was gorgeous. We had one sandwich each and instead of the common 3 or 4 different finger sandwiches, we had alternative savoury offerings of a tiny flan and a delicious sausage roll with a difference, followed by really tasty scones with jam and cream and finally cakes and a blood orange panna cotta - OMG how divine! This was just a delightful way to spend the afternoon. I would thoroughly recommend it and I will be returning very soon.

Charming cafe attached to an art galllery in the heart of Chichester ...a hidden courtyard off the main shopping streets so very quiet and relaxing .Comfy seating , pleasant staff and an interesting varied menu ( not huge so think made to order). Wine by the 175 glass or 500ml carafe. I ate zhoug marinated prawns with melon and prosciutto in a mustard dressing which was really delicious.Once again an independent place comes up trumps.Obviously nowhere gets 5 blobs , but 4 is not enough.. this place is on the high side of 4.5. It’s good to see the Pallant Gallery cafe utilising its cafe space to the full. Although some seats are reserved for table service from the interior cafe there is now a counter with an espresso machine serving coffees, teas, cold drinks, teatime cakes and pastries, and at lunchtime a small selection of hot dishes culminating in fish and chips. It’s also a good opportunity to study the sculptures around the edge of the outside space. Perhaps serving staff had a similar preoccupation as they seemed rather slow in clearing and cleaning the tables after use.

The staff are very courteous, understanding and happy to please. The food is delicious, most ingredients are locally sourced and sensibly well priced. Basic wines are overpriced but that is where they can score over other city centre eateries if they lowered them a bit. Highly recommended. On Tuesday the gallery is open with half price entrance - a bonus.

I had the cheese course instead of a pudding which actually was almost too big for me. One of the party was gluten free and was impressed that there was a gluten free lager. We had wanted to try Pallant Restaurant for a while and finally found an opportunity on their Thursday night opening after seeing the excellent Ivon Hitchins exhibition. The restaurant looked very welcoming and we had good seats. It was busy. The roll we were served on request while waiting was absolutely delicious and obviously homemade. It made us think that we were in for a treat but the meals were quite average. I couldn't eat all my pork as it was so chewy and coated in a greasy standard crumb crust. The sauce with leeks was delicious and made with cream. The waitress asked if everything was ok and when I said the pork was chewy she disappeared and returned to say that the chef was sorry but he has to use what his butcher gives him. Not really what I expected to hear! My husband had fish and chips which he said was good but he wished he's asked for some peas or vegetables with it. The waitress obviously forgot she had asked us if everything was ok as she asked again later! Won't be booking another visit very soon. Quite disappointed by the experience. It’s a relatively small space within the modern extension to the Pallant House Gallery with a splendid view of the sculpture garden. It was originally occupied by the Field & Fork restaurant which has since relocated to a Georgian house off North Street. In its present guise it has a simple a la carte menu whose starters are limited to bread with olives, potted duck and the like followed by mains such as pork belly, rump steak or cannelloni with peppers. There is a set menu Thursdays and a Sunday lunch menu. The restaurant spills over into the museum entrance area where a savoury bap was being offered as well as sandwiches at lunchtime. We visited late afternoon when cakes and pastries previously being served in the entrance area had become the exclusive preserve of the restaurant. We had peppermint and camomile teas with a chocolate brownies and an almond and cherry slice. Some pleasant albeit rather mass produced Edward Bawden prints on the wall. Two champagne bottles on a table sat as a reminder that this is also a fully licensed and indeed rather elegant bar. At another table a young couple enjoyed a very late lunch or early supper of scampi and chips with bottles of craft beer.

Visited this restaurant with my wife for one of their Saturday Steak Nights. We took a very early dinner due to other plans and we able to choose where we sat; we sat at a table just by the doors which we open on to the beautiful courtyard garden area.We were served the drinks menu along with the a la carte menu, and the steak night menu all of which were explained along with wine pairings. We chose to eat from the steak night menu but made our own choice of a bottle of wine from the wine list. The steak night menu consists of several different cuts of steak along with your choice of sauce plus two sides. We both chose the fillet steak menu at £24 and I chose the hand cut chips and vegetable medley as my sides plus the port and Isle of Wight sauce for my steak. My wife chose the chips plus the cauliflower and bacon bake with gruyere cheese as her sides. The wine was reasonable at £18.95 per bottle and iced water is provided at your table.Food is freshly prepared but we didn't have too much of a wait. The steak was extremely tender and delicious and did not reauire a steak knife. There was no fat at all and it was perfectly cooked to my request. The chips were superb - seasoned and crisp on the outside but fluffy on the inside. The vegetables were plentiful and a good mix and seasoned well. I also have to comment on the steak sauce...it was amazing! If you aren't sure which to try go for the port and Isle of Wight! We followed our main meals with a small sweet course of truffles and Turkish delight with coffee. The truffles and Turkish delight come in a very cute box. There are two pieces each, which you might think is poor, but you really don't need any more than this as they are very rich. The coffee is okay as far as coffee goes. There atmosphere in the restaurant was very pleasant with nice background music, and the staff was attentive. It wasn't busy when we were there as we were very early but we could hear that they were fully booked so I would advise booking a table for dinner. They add a 10% service charge to your bill but I was more than happy to pay this as I had an excellent meal and a lovely experience in this small but airy restaurant. Well recommended!

I dined here last weekend with my parents and was thoroughly disappointed. The drink service was ok, but it took a long time for the waiter to take our food order, and in fact did so after a table that arrived after us. The food service was incredibly slow, more than 40 minutes. Especially given we were within the first 3 tables for the lunch service, and by the time we left the restaurants was nearly full. Two of three main courses were bought to the table, and the third arrived nearly five minutes later. The food itself was edible, but not special. The roasts (lamb and chicken) were covered in gravy, which was too sweet and overpowered the meal. It would've been improved by serving the gravy in jugs. The meat itself was actually well cooked, and tasty. The roast potatoes were anaemic. The best part was the stuffing. All in all, I was underwhelmed, and felt I would've got a better (both food quality, service, and price) from a local pub!

A lovely airy restaurant with courtyard outside, and art on the walls, as part of the Pallant Gallery. We visited for lunch on Christmas Eve: it was towards the end of the service and a couple of dishes had run out, but the moules mariniere with chips were delicious, as were the broccoli, apple and cheddar soup and the black forest chocolate mousse dessert with boozy cherry. Good coffee too! Starters and desserts are around £5-7 and mains mostly in the £11-16 range, and we were happy they included fish and vegetarian options, as neither of us eat meat. The service here is first class, the staff are knowledgeable about the menu, extremely friendly and observant (our water was refilled without even having to ask), and the whole place feels unruffled and smooth. All in all, a really nice experience and I would definitely recommend as a place for celebrations and special occasions.

A long wait for food; when it arrived, it was the wrong meal; then another long wait. The food when it came was first-rate. The bill included a cappuccino that we had not ordered or received: this was corrected, but ungraciously and without an apology.

Good ingredients, interesting and accurately cooked dishes, served by friendly and efficient staff in a bright, airy and elegant space. The set lunch at £16.50 is one bargain; the rosé wine at £19.50 another.

This restaurant is our goto evening out. Atmosphere is great, we opened the doors for a bit so felt like we were dining outside. The venetian style tapas was great. We ordered extra. Gin and wine super. Attention by waiting staff is spot on. Highlight is always the chat with Marco, he should run "an evening with Marco" showcasing his knowledge of food and drink and all things Italian. He is a delight. Don't go anywhere else.

We were a little dubious because of the somewhat poor reviews. We fully expected to wait a long time for service, ordering and then the wait for food. None of the above. Water and menu were brought immediately, together with a carafe on the table. We ordered the warm duck salad to share, which was quite delicious, particularly the lightly pickled radish. We then had the seafood sharing special and a bottle of Pino. The wait staff were attentive, friendly but not in your face, the food was of a standard and well presented. All in good order and no long wait for anything, as this was a Friday night we were very happy bunnies.

My husband an I are Friends of Pallant House, which is a wonderful art gallery, reason enough for a visit to Chichester. However the superb restaurant run by the brilliant Marco is a real must for delicious food at an amazingly good price. The Sunday lunches are brilliant, some of the best food I've ever eaten. We can really recommend this restaurant with it's locally sourced food, great wines and friendly unobtrusive service.

We have planned to visit this restaurant for some time and given that Marco, who is the gentleman running the restaurant how could we refuse. It's always been a pleasure to eat where Marco reigns! We arrived about 1:30 for lunch and were offered a choice of where to sit and once our order was taken we did have to wait a good half hour before our meals arrived which did start to worry me a bit. However, what we ordered was quite good although we would have liked some bread offered while we waited. The staff were courteous and friendly and the atmosphere comfortable and well presented. The menu is not too extensive and there is a two menu on offer at £16:50 and a three course at around £19:00 (I think). My meal was good and despite my wariness of rump steak I was surprised by its tenderness. My partner had a rather expensive crab salad which would have been better had she had some bread with it. Overall, we were happy but did not order deserts as our bill would have exceeded £40 for two mains and two soft drinks by at least a tenner and £50 for such a simple lunch seem excessive. Overall, a great place, nice food, good staff and of course Marco!

We had lunch in the restaurant rather than the cafe. The food - we both had a vegetarian tartlet - was excellent, with good-sized portions, but, as on previous occasions we have eaten there, service was slow, and, once we had ordered, we had to wait a long time for the food to arrive. This is partly because all food is freshly prepared, but, even allowing for this, the wait was very excessive. If you can afford the time, this is a really good place to have lunch.

In Chichester and being a Pallant friend we thought we would try and get with little hope of success as we had not booked and knowing how small the Resturant is. Luckily they had had a No show and we were in.Very nice comfortable room, plenty of light, no too large but tables not too squeezed in.Nice linen on the tables and napkins (always a nice to have)Tap water provided without question. The menu selection compact (good) with a selection across the usual range.Starters had a similar range. We went straight for mains, I had their fish and chips ( locally line caught haddock), very good chips, nice light batter and whilst not large, ideal for lunch. My partner had the "lamb two ways" which comprised of slow cooked flaked leg and two small chops. She had asked for the sauce to be served separately and not to have the potatoes which without any request additional vegetables were offered. Apart from slightly tough chops the rest was excellent and came as requested. Although the sweets looked very tempting we just went for coffee which was excellent.Service throughout was very good and timely. The overall bill came to what we thought was reasonable for the lunch as a whole. We will definitely come back again (remembering to book!)

The Pallant House restaurant is probably the best restaurant in Chichester at this current time. The food is absolutely fantastic and very well priced and the staff (especially Marco) are excellent. Marco informed us that a new menu was imminent so we will be back ASAP to try it out. A must for all Chichester foodies.

Our starters were visually interesting and very palatable, though they were only dainty little morsels. It is not something that matters too much if the mains manage to be more substantial, but both our fish dishes were small. They were tasty but insufficient in quantity to the point that we began to consider breaking open the cheese and biscuits when we got home. Surprisingly, the sticky toffee pudding looked a good solid offering that would compensate for the rest; disappointingly, it was just a brown sponge with a sticky sauce, so we left half of it. (Sticky toffee pudding should be, literally, pudding- hopefully with dates - not a cake.) We thought there had been too little effort though some dishes would have been good if they hadn't been so minute. Interesting menu drew us in, but not to be repeated.

Despite being locals this was the first time for an evening meal here. Very impressed. The food was superb (especially the desserts). We had the benefit of a special offer which made it extremely reasonably priced. Don't expect big platefuls - but we certainly had sufficient with the 3 course set menu. Excellent, attentive service in an attractive, rather peaceful environment. Altogether a very enjoyable experience & we have already booked to return.

My wife and I had lunch here, after the added bonus of walking around the art gallery, with its superb array of 20th century pictures. There is an excellent selection of interesting food - our dishes included halloumi, scallops and crab cakes and we thoroughly enjoyed it all. It's a lovely place to have a meal, with an agreeable outside courtyard as well as the restaurant itself. The service was efficient and friendly and it's good value, too. Highly recommended.

Having been to the new pallant restaurant several times now for both the lunch and evening menus I have been amazed. The service is always on point, Marco and his team make you feel welcome and cared for with their efficency and knowledge. And the kitchen staff have outdone themselves, with a menu that changes as fresh ingredients are coming in. They push themselves to create exciting new dishes that always hit the mark.It was the clam chowder with chorizo, spring onion and a whole prawn on top that really blew me away at the weekend. Needless to say I will be back.

Not found anywhere better in Chichester. How this place is not higher up the ratings is beyond me. Though great for being able to grab a table, this secret of a place should have far more recognition. The service was fab, the food perfect, and the price?! I challenge you to get better value anywhere else. Though only having been for the lunch ill definitely be returning for the dinner options.Well done all who make this place what it is! Outstanding!

We had Sunday lunch at The Pallant House Restaurant on 23 Oct - our first visit. It was a good experience - a three course set menu. The starter of Tempura Battered Squid was lovely, the Roast Pork well cooked with assorted vegetables and then excellent desserts. All very good value with really friendly unflustered staff on what was a very busy servise. Highly recommended.JH

Decor/decorum was nice. Staff were nice enough.. Came in early evening with a couple of tables already inside. Food was okay but no wow factor to it. Didn’t think prices of items reflected what we got. They forgot an item that we ordered but gave us another item that we didn’t instead, so perhaps a mix up there. No check back to see how our meal was/for us to get another drink. Chorizo, calamari, mushrooms, a side salad with a med wine and bottle of beer with service charge came just shy of £60.. which I’m in two minds about, If it was worth it based on the overall visit. Overall experience was okay but wouldn’t go back in a hurry based on experience but perhaps a one off.
