We had an excellent meal here the food tasted and looked delicious. The Burger was beautifully cooked and had lots of flavour. The cod special was spectacular. The cocktails are meticulously crafted and the ale is well kept. All in all, I would recommend this place.

Having been here before in 2022 my friend and I we're excited to come again We thought we had booked the lunchtime menu as it wasn't clearly shown on the website, instead we arrived to find out only the Sunday lunch lunch menu was available I'm a vegetarian and the 2 options for me didn't seem appealing as I don't like wild mushrooms My friend had her heart set on the muscles and as not to ruin things I said I'd have the nut roast the other option I didn't particularly fancy. It said it came with pigs in blankets, duck fat roast potatoes and veg, I asked what do vegetarians get and the reply was nut roast and veg, I thought I'd be offered mash or something which comes with the pie. I decided not to have anything but insisted my friend did, she enjoyed her mussels and said the belly pork was OK and vegetables very nice, she finished with the brulle was tasty. Overall a very disappointing experience and won't be coming again

We went here with several families for a 50th Birthday. The staff were very nice, being patient with the kids and attentive to the adults. The drinks were very expensive and the food was OK, but also expensive for what you got- I ordered 'wild garlic chicken Kiev', which was a dry rolled chicken breast with crispy coating and no sauce, and a very small pot of macaroni cheese, no veg, for £18. Sorry, but that was not worth it. Others in the party faired better by the looks of things, and the kids ate their food, but complained of small portions. Not somewhere I'll rush back to.

We really liked this place so decided to go for our 1st year anniversary. Unfortunately the experience has left me not wanting to return. The starters was lovely - goat shoulder samosa. We were asked how we would like our meat cooked for our main roast - we both opted for pink rather than well done. Unfortunately the meat was over cooked, we couldn't cut it with a knife, I politely asked if we could have our meat changed as it was not pink as requested. The waitress came back after going into the kitchen and said that the Chef has said that it isn't well done - the gravy makes it look that way. I'm not a chef but i'm a pretty decent cook and we both know when meat is way overdone. They begrudgingly changed the meat but we felt embarrassed to have been spoken like that in front of other guests and our integrity questioned. If you want to serve meat your way, then don't give your guests an option!

We booked in for Sunday lunch,the food was without a doubt the best Sunday lunch we've had in a very long time, the staff were friendly and courteous, the building itself is well presented and decorated and I would definitely recommend it to anyone,we will certainly be returning again and again...

Superb place great food and service

First time visit to The Palfrey at its new location. Very easy to find on the A6 just outside Belper with its own smallish car park. We dined on a Monday Bank Holiday evening towards the end of service. There were tables available but I would always book to avoid disappointment as I know this is a popular place. The menu isn’t massive (a good thing in my opinion) but there is plenty of choice to suit all tastes. Food was absolutely delicious & for the quality very reasonably priced. Portions are generous so go hungry! Service throughout our meal was excellent. Highly recommend a visit to this lovely restaurant, we shall definitely return.

Called in with some friends while driving south through Belper. Lovely atmosphere and friendly, welcoming staff. Menu is recognisable with some twists. I had the house burger which is topped with pulled goats shoulder. That's a twist which is inspired. Desserts are lovely but maybe not the biggest. You pay for Lovely items presented with care rather than volume. Made for a lovely evening.

We have been here several times and always found the food to be of a very high quality and really good service. This review is more specifically regarding the lovely evening we had last night at The Palfreys first live music/ BBQ event. The burgers were absolutely delicious we had 2 each! Some-of the best I’ve ever had so credit to the cook manning the BBQ and it was a really nice evening. The pub is quite old but inside is very contemporary with a really high standard of decoration in a rustic/ industrial theme, very cool n hip. Very much recommend this place, main restaurant is a tad on the pricy side but if that’s what we have to pay to keep places like this open so be it :) You won’t be disappointed visiting this place.

The food was quite expensive, starters arrived quickly, but took some time (over an hour) for the mains and was quite average on arrival. May have forgotten about us as later arrivals served mains earlier. Chicken Kiev was very small, beefed up by quite a lot of average macaroni and cheese. Burger was ok, but quite dry and pink, just a burger. Prices more than other local restaurants. Staff were friendly, decor nice. Food much better in original Derby venue. Surprised at the amount of excellent reviews most seem to be people that give a lot of excellent reviews.

Too expensive for me but a nice little restaurant and popular with people

Just returned from a fabulous Sunday lunch at The Palfrey. Having visited previously we knew to expect great food and service. But. Today was exceptional. Service was excellent. The food was the best we've eaten all weekend. And we've been out all weekend. The Boot at Repton. Very good. Darleys for a champagne breakfast. Very good. Today took the gold medal. Mussels from Dorset so fresh you could hear the sea. Roast beef cooked to perfection, melted in your mouth. Couldn't have faulted a thing.

Absolutely lovely place and friendly, accommodating staff members. We came for a meal here and was not disappointed! The food was spot on, cannot fault anything. The prices are affordable too. We will definitely be back. Thank you 😊

I was slightly dubious about lunching here, due to a few recent negative reviews. I couldn’t have been more pleasantly surprised! A warm welcome, a comfortable dining room with a nice amount of space between tables. Then the food. We all had the Sunday roast. I could not have asked for better. Really well cooked and seasoned. A huge portion (which makes me question the negative reviews). A great variety of vegetables on the plate and extra sides to choose from if you’re greedy, like us! I’m so glad my Daughter booked here - a really great place for our favourite meal of the week - Sunday lunch! I would definitely recommend 😊

Very Disappointing... My wife and I visited on a Sunday evening. We opted for a Sunday lunch and a bottle of wine. The service was very good with very friendly staff and the overall ambience was very nice, so we were expecting a nice meal. I had the lamb, I asked for it to be not fully pink. When it arrived it was very pink indeed. There was 2 slices in total, one was so fatty there was no meat that you could actually cut off to eat. The other piece was better but still very little meat you could cut off. I only had 2 roast potatoes but my wife only had 1 !! which I didn't know about until after we left. The desert was lovely. To sum up a very nice establishment with very nice staff, imagine how good it would be if the food was better.

Visited for a birthday Sunday lunch & what a disappointment. My husband had roast lamb, received 2 x slices of which the greatest proportion was fat. We were given 1 roast potato each which had obviously been cooked hours before as they were so hard & almost impossible to cut into. The decor & service & food presentation were great but the food itself was average at best. Had better quality in pub carvery settings at half the price.

Loved the decor and menu. Staff very friendly and helpful. But lack of atmosphere. Needed background music. Quite a few things on menu not available; 2 meals we wanted and also a mocktail as no elderflower cordial. Asked for our toddlers meal to come with our starters which didn't. Arrived 10 mins later when we had finished. Didn't seem to be enough staff on despite it being Father's Day. Service in general wasn't very prompt and it felt like we had a lot of sitting around just waiting for coyrses, menus, plates to he cleared etc. All in all I can see it has potential but some basic things meant this wasn't as good as it could have been.

I waited ten minutes at the bar, neither member of staff acknowledged me, a simple we’ll be with you in a minute would have done. Then proceeded to serve a group who arrived after me, in dribs and drabs.

Breakfast was awful poached eggs more like hard boiled no spinach (supermarket 5 min away) Egg Royale salmon steak hot !!! Instead of smoked salmon strips Homemade !! Pasties shop bought and burned when served inedible

Only ones in, food didn't arrive together, dropped utensil down my back, food was nice but I was in bed all afternoon with upset stomach. Getting to the place was a nightmare not good for anyone who has mobility problems. Doors in toilets too heavy to push but very decorative a talking point with the men.

It was fantastic the service was outstanding. The food was fabulous and so well priced.

Had to request they clean our table before we ate. It was very, very sticky, and there were crumbs all around the condiments in the centre of the table. There aren't so many choices for gluten free eating and the desserts even less so. It was our second time here and the first was by far better than this time. Just lazy things that if remedied would lift this place.

We had a dinner here and the following day [because it was so good] a lunch. Splendid setting for a well run and lovely restaurant. Staff were very friendly and service was excellent. The menu was well set with a wide variety of tastes covered and reasonably priced. My wife and I so enjoyed our 3 course meal that we went for lunch the next day after our morning hike. They clearly use local produce and the presentation and flavours were excellent. We will make a point of eating there next time we are down that way.

Within less than a month I’ve eaten here with my family for Sunday lunch, and with work colleagues during an evening. Unfortunately neither were representative of when this place first opened. Service was fine for the large work party, but just too slow for Sunday...

The second time I've been for a meal here and once again not disappointed. I think this is the best restaurant in the Belper area. Food is well presented. I had the small plates on the lunch menu which gives variety from the normal menu....

Recced place this evening prior to recommending a large group for dinner. Tiny portions for £16. Small 20cm x 6cm piece of haddock 6 chips and a meagre tablespoon of mushy peas. Other meals around the restaurant were meagre too. Waiter relayed my complaint to the chef, and same waiter said the chef apologised.... but no more. I left hungry. Frankly I felt insulted.

I’ve always been a big fan of the Palfrey and our recent visit for a special occasion didn’t disappoint! The service was excellent, cocktails supberb, food = 10/10! Thank you very much and we can’t wait to return 😃

Second time I've made an attempt at breakfast after their advertisements. The first was underwhelming as half wasn’t available and we were sole diners. Google listing & website this morning state 9:30. “Greeted” by a staff member baffled as to our presence, claiming they open at 10, not 9:30, fair enough? It would be with an apology instead of being told we were wrong and it had never been open then. Could have been handled extremely differently and not ended with me deciding not to bother going again.

Shortly after we were shown to our table The menu was given us after a wait, and we ordered shortly thereafter. There was a misunderstanding by our waitress as to how the beef was prepared, which was quickly rectified by a waiter before the food order was ready Food was delivered to the table, and looked lovely. We weren’t offered sauces or additional drinks The food was good, though the (two!) potatoes were over cooked and so hard to cut. One small stuffing ‘bon-bon’ seems tight too, but it was tasty Overall, service was lacklustre, which is a shame. It’s a small setting, with a great food offering, and there were enough staff. We came as a group of 8 for Sunday lunch. Space is a little small but beautifully decorated. We all had starters which were nice, although the spring rolls were a little oily and a small portion. The mushroom starter was delicious. As for the roast, the potatoes were rather hard and there was only a little small ball of stuffing, other than that, it was lovely. As for dessert, the dark chocolate cheesecake was very good, but the base was very crumbly, not very set. I will also say parking is extremely limited, we all had to park in side streets. As a whole, would come back as it was good and a great ambiance!

The Palfry has a lovely atmosphere,very high ceilings feels airy, but still cosy due to the decor. The menu is good, not vast, the food was delicious, beef with chunky parmigiano chips,kale,homemade onion rings and pepper sauce. I look forward to visiting again soon.

Absolutely brilliant from the moment we walked in, until we left. Was served by two excellent members of staff, who made us feel really valued. A real credit to the place. The food was amazing. The mussels are a must and the beer battered fish was the best I've ever had. I had a slight problem with the bread served with my starter, but it was handled so brilliantly and quickly that it only helped improve our experience tonight. It is also worth a mention that the toilets are also quality in the way that they have been designed with the kegs. We will definitely be returning and would recommend The Palfrey to anyone that hasn't tried it yet.

Very good food, pleasant staff, with good service

My wife and I were really looking forward to dining at the Palfrey, upon arrival we were blown away by the interior design really tasteful. As we were early we were seated in the bar just as a rather loud chap was in conversation but couldn't make a sentence without inserting several expletives. This you expect in a pub but not in a venue like the Palfrey. The staff didn't ask him to moderate his language so we had to endure his gutteral language. It was really warm in the bar and I heard a few people comment how baking hot it was which is strange as most venues can't afford to heat their premises. Then we were shown to our table which had a sash window wide open which made our part of the room freezing. I immediately closed the window but it took ages for our table to warm up. The table we were seated at had a copper table which had lifted and it made it difficult to put a glass down on it. I had the rump steak which I thoroughly enjoyed my wife had the duck which wasn't. The skin was still raw and the duck difficult to cut and chew. The Dauphinoise potatoes were bland as was the kale. So one serving was 5 star the other 0. Its a shame as we were hoping it would be a new venue for us as it is very convenient.

The food was great, but such a shame about the POOR SERVICE!! The waiter took our food order, but I had to ask for a glass of wine (as he was walking away) after dropping our starters off. The food went really well, but then we sat waiting for 20-25mins with empty mains plates (& empty glasses)... but no staff in sight! We would have had another drink & dessert... instead, we got up, paid at the bar, and left. Whilst paying, they barely even acknowledged why we were leaving (I assume it's a regular thing!) ..... it's the only time I haven't left I tip for a meal (although the option wasn't given as they deselected on the card machine before passing it over)!!
