The One Bull Public House in St Edmundsbury

Excellent experience on two occasions. Busy but not noisy with great service. Food was outstanding, particularly a pie which is undoubtedly the best I can remember eating. Portions generous. Good ale too.

This is one of the best Sunday roasts I've had in a long time Will definitely come again Everything was spot on.

We really love this pub. Always had great food, wine and beer there, and the staff are always welcoming and helpful. It is such a shame we won't be able to visit anymore, as the pub is not dog friendly. Surely well-behaved dogs should always be welcomed in pubs. :(

It was a busy Friday night, however there is little excuse for the quality of the food-it was pretty appalling. Little care taken with either course, but the starter was especially bad. It may have been an off night, but I certainly won’t be bothering again. Beer and wine was OK though!

One of the worst meals I have had in years. Accompanied by a surly head waitress- an expensive mistake. I will never go back.

My son booked this pub for a family meal. Hubby and sons girlfriend chose the pork. They were expecting chips to be served with the meal but had to order separately. The meat came on a deep plate with a little bit of kale and 2 halves of plums. The fact that they had to order extras was terrible for the price we paid £19, £23 with the chips. I had fish n and very large chips or you could say roast potatoes, they were that big. To be honest I've had better in a Premier Inn. My son had the muscles and our grandson had a chicken burger with fries which was £10. A lot for a child's meal tbh. Total cost with 3 drinks was £114. Wouldn't go again in a hurry. Too expensive for what you get.

Attentive, friendly service. The beef and pork roast dinners were excellent, we will definitely return.

Very salty squid, had to send back. Both my husband a me thought very salty, there were about 4 or 5 in the bowl. Waitress came back to our table to say ‘chef said no salt in the squid at all!’ We didn’t get charged but to be told you are lying, put a damp squib in the evening. We went with friends to be honest the food wasn’t great for any of us, the tartar sauce was good. Peas dry, fish black, chips as big as roast potatoes. Unfortunately we’ll not be back.

Such a cosy pub restaurant. Haven't eaten there for quite a while but the food smelled good. It's best to book if you want to eat. Great ales and lagers. So cosy. The lighting is perfect. The seating areas are so comfortable. It's a lovely place to be

I’ve visited the One Bull several times for drinks but had never eaten there before. My friend recommended it so we booked a table for supper with friends. I was so disappointed with the food. I sent mine back due to freshness issues and got an alternative replacement that wasn’t much better. I like the pub and was disappointed that the restaurant didn’t match up. The staff were pleasant and friendly.

Melt in the mouth roast beef! Lovely Sunday roast dinner with red wine! Usually come here and do the set menu which never disappoints but decided to try the Sunday menu and so glad we did!

Great food and atmosphere enjoyed by all. Special thanks to our wonderful waitress Luv who attended to all our needs and was an examplorary treasure who looked after our party really well. Can't wait to ve coming back very soon!

We always choose The One Bull as our go-to aperitif place before eating out in Bury, as it is such a relaxed venue, staff are so nice, excellent beers and a gorgeous English sparkling on the drinks list! Having not had a meal there for a while, we booked a table - good atmosphere, friendly restaurant staff. We ordered a Portuguese white (no 12 on the list!) for £26 - I would highly recommend it. We both ordered salmon with potatoes and gem/broad bean fricassee, and I'm afraid both of us were quite underwhelmed; served in a bowl, with only 3 potatoes, a thin fillet of salmon (not of the finest quality) and scarcely a broad bean to be found. Our side of Hispi cabbage, however, was gorgeous - 2 bold wedges, beautifully cooked and presented. It was certainly far from filling - not at all the heartier dishes we remembered from previous dinners there - a pity. Overall, The One Bull is by far the best place in Bury for a drink, a good place to meet friends, but we'll regard the food with a bit of caution.

This Restaurant is very near the town centre with plenty of paid parking 🅿️ if you go on a Sunday the parking is confusing because after 4pm parking is free but when trying to pay the meters don’t say this it say parking restrictions after 4pm . The food we ordered both had roast beef was excellent plenty of beef cooked to perfection with fresh vegetables and homemade Yorkshire pudding my wife ordered a dessert coconut panacea which she thought was very good 👍. The one down side was the lack of understanding with the service all staff very pleasant but we received our drinks after we received the food and the drinks was then placed in the middle of the veg dishes we were trying to use . I would be very happy 😃 to recommend this restaurant and will return but hope they serve the drinks before the food .

The establishment was clean, airy and very comfortable. The staff were friendly, helpful and welcoming. The prices were fair in today's marketplace and the whole experience was one that I would wish to repeat, maybe buying more food next time.

Great food and an excellent wine list with every wine available by the glass. They also offer wine flights which was fun. Lovely staff and a fabulous choice for gluten free dining. Highly recommend.

We booked this restaurant whilst having a short break around Suffolk and Norfolk. So pleased we chose to eat here as the meal was superb. Set in an old pub the place is spacious and modern in style, the dining area being well away from the bar. The menu changes every week and is tiny, 3 starters, mains and desserts. Whilst this may seem limiting it clearly enables them to produce extremely high quality food. I had the cod goujons to start, beautiful moist fish in a light crispy batter, the warm tartar sauce was cream based and a perfect accompaniment. Local Pork Chop for main, moist and tasty on a bed of wet Polenta which to be honest I didn't like the sound of, but it was actually absolutely delicious, smooth and creamy, yum. The Swiss Chard was also good, the only thing I wasn't as keen on was the Gremolata sprinkled over the top, just a bit gritty for my taste. We ordered some sides also, the stir fried kale with garlic and chilli was absolutely fantastic and the truffle fries amazing, so crisp and fluffy inside and not a hint of greasiness. A delicious chocolate fondant perfectly cooked with pistachio ice cream completed the meal. If I lived locally I would eat here regularly.

There’s nothing better than a decent roast is there, and today’s roast at The One Bull was simply amazing. Perfect pink Beef, roast potatoes to die for and great veggies & perfect Yorkshire puddings and delicious gravy to top it all off. Honestly a faultless roast. Not to mention fabulous starters and great puddings. And nice to see the later opening times now for Sunday’s. Capped with excellent service and great covid measures, literally zero complaints. Thanks again One Bull, we’ll be back!

I reviewed this venue before however it was a while ago. Have been twice recently, once for the set menu evening meal and once for lunch. They have made a real effort on social distancing with hanging clear screens between many of the tables and the others, well spaced out. In the evening I had venison wellington which was excellent. For lunch, I highly recommend the Rueben salt beef toasted sandwich. They also brew their own ales which are well worth a taste.

Amazing food - couldn’t fault it. The table service was also faultless. The waiters were professional and polite.The only downside is that the meal didn’t get off to the best start. Being rudely shouted at from across the bar by a lady telling us to put our masks on as we walked in. We’re so sorry we forgot but a quiet comment or gentle reminder after welcoming us would have been far more tactful and customer focused. Luckily the rest of the experience made up for it.

Been here plenty of times for a drink and have always said we must have a meal. This time we did and we were not disappointed. Very well presented and enjoyable, small menu which for us is great as usually means better quality and time spent preparing. The wine shop is excellent a good idea to cope with Covid19, already spent too much there.

What a fabulous end to our holiday. My boyfriend came here 5 years ago and raved about it so much we came for the last meal of our holiday week. There was a limited menu due to the current situation, but wow what a choice, I had salt and pepper squid with lime mayo and kimichi and Mark had pigeon breast with braised baby gem, bacon and peas to start, both dishes were exceptionally good. To improve on the starters seemed an impossible task, we both opted for the venison Wellington with champ mash and cavelo Nero, neither of us spoke for the first few minutes after tasting our meals, the venison melted in the mouth, the champ was velvety smooth and the cavelo Nero was just cooked, buttered and seasoned perfectly. We opted to share a chocolate and black cherry tart with vanilla ice cream and again we weren't disappointed. Every part of our meal and experience at The One Bull was fabulous, probably one of the best meals I have ever had. And to top it all the staff were very attentive and the covid restrictions were followed to the letter. Well done The One Bull, can't wait to come back.

Sat in the wine bar part of the one bull - Vino Gusto, lovely atmosphere, fantastic selection on wines. (140 to choose from) Didn’t eat here but menu looked great. Nice clean, well organised establishment.

We lunched here in early August. It was nice to see The One Bull was totally Covid compliant. The food was lovely (whole plaice) & the service was the best we have experienced in a long while.

Had an amazing meal... the Vegan starter and main were 2 of the best vegan options I’ve ever had!.. Katsu Curry was AMAZING!.. The chef did a great job..Very Covid safe, excellent service as always!....looking forward to going back ( maybe we will let the kids come this time!)..

We were delighted with the quality of service and food and drink here. Refreshingly intelligent and consistently pleasant staff made our visit so much more enjoyable. Informed on their drinks (they have their own brewery and wine shop) and helpful in making our choices. The atmosphere is very chilled and positive. We spent a couple of hours lounging there in the afternoon and went back for dinner. They are taking the health precautions seriously and we felt safe. Dinner was wonderful. I can recommend the vegetarian terrine and the monkfish. Delicious, with wonderful accompanying tastes.

my wife and I had a meal here last week I must say the plaice we had was excellent as was the Arnold Bennet omelette starter would recommend this restaurant highly will go back again.

Me and my Wife had the evening to ourselves and dropped in on the off chance of something to eat. We received a very friendly and warm wlecome and enjoyed drink while we waitied for the kitchen to open.Although operating with a reduced menu it was tough to decide between the starters and mains as they all sounded fantastic. We eneded up having 3 courses and the food was supurb. Service during the meal was very attentive and we felt very relaxed all evening(Which can be rare in this curent climate). The restruant has ahndled the Covid requiremetns really nicely, keeping things in accordance with the regulations but without feeling clinical and maintaining its comfortable atmosphere.We both loved the experience and will certainly be heading back to the One Bull.

Visited last night for the first time since Covid having been lots of times before. The new short menu is fantastic, well thought out, nicely presented and very enjoyable.The clever screens with their signature art on are such a good alternative to clinical acrylic screens.The wine options are plentiful and a great idea to choose from their shop with corkage to have with a meal.And as always, the staff are attentive and friendly which make for an overall very enjoyable visit!

If you are a connoisseur of wine then this is the place for you - to say that it is well stocked is an understatement!. Their wines are available to buy and take away and are impressively displayed. The interior is really wonderfully appointed which gives the place style and class and we found the staff to be very helpful and attentive to our needs.

Our favourite place for Sunday lunch and first time back after re-opening. Didn't disappoint. Sirloin of beef cooked pink, roasties and Yorkshire pudding, 4 x veggies served separate together with small jug of extra gravy. Naomi and Becky as lovely as ever. What a difference to our experience last Sunday in another local establishment. This is the way to do it.

Dinner was very very good. The gnocchi dish was the best I have ever eaten. Chocolate tart was perfect. So pleased to be able to eat out again. We will be back.
