Absolutely shocking customer service! 10/10 would not recommend coming here after the mouthful of abuse we got down the phone from the staff!! Recorded the entire phone call of the staff swearing at us down the phone telling us to F off after I called to ask for them to check the camera as after my friends wallet was stolen from there. Disgraceful customer service, I work in bar myself and would never ever treat customers how they did last night!

It's such a magical place! Everyone knows each other, it's like a big family. It has a charm that I have never experienced. The place indoors is being remodeled, outside seating is so comfortable that I didn't want to leave, there's a covered area in case of some rain, there are tables out in the open, toilet was clean and tidy. The food was delicious, the staff so friendly and approachable... I can't wait to be back!

Our family used this establishment for a wake in the celebration of the life of Gordon shepherd ( shep ) . Ferdous did the food for us and to say there was rather a lot of it would be an understatement. It just kept comming we had to tell him to stop bringing it from the kitchen . The food was delicious and made fresh and from scratch. I would recommend this establishment to any one who loves to eat . The atmosphere was perfect and very friendly. Thankyou to Ferdous at the olive tree for all his help in making a sad and stressful time run as smooth and seamless as possible. Thanks from all the laird and shepherd family.

This place is disgusting! Ordered take out from Just eat and will never ever order again. They got my order completely wrong. Ordered paella, you think a Mediterranean restaurant would be able to do that no bother... looked and tastes nothing like Paella! I’ve had one bite and binned it. It came in unwashed plastic containers which had stickers all over them so clearly hadn’t been put through a dishwasher, god knows what was in it beforehand!! The lasagne had more water in it than cheese sauce and I have no idea what they were thinking when instead of putting a tomato sauce on the tomato pizza bread they put quartered raw tomatoes on it making it all soggy. When I called to talk to them about it I spoke to two people who shouted, spoke over and hung up on me. Had to get my fiancé to call them back. Absolutely raging at deciding to spend more money to get a take out from here and getting this rubbish!

The food was ineadable, we were given 2 garlic bread and 6 cheese and garlic bread from a baguette and all of it was burnt, my partener ordered a home made chicken pie which turnded out to be a chicken breast drowned in white sauce with a pastry crust top he describes it as "the chicken was dry, bland, the pasrty crust top was over cooked, the sauce was absolutely tasteless" the supposed veg that came with it was served seprately when i smelt it to find out what it was all i could pick up was burnt food. i ordered the lasagne, it was covered in grease, served in a dirty dish. I pushed my fork to the bottom and pulled it up and found what i can only describe as Finely minced dog meat mixed with white sauce, after seeing that i felt like i would be sick. Our 6 yr old son ordered pizza and after seeing the state of my food i checked his and it was a good thing i did, it was burnt on one side of the top but the bottom was nothing but dough that was under cooked, i pulled up a slice and the cheese fell off in one dollop even the cheese was not melted correctly. AVOID HERE AT ALL COST.

I hadn’t ate here for a while and 1st time I’ve collected to take away. Myself and my partner were left disappointed. Good service in the restaurant. I turned up a little ahead of the collection time but I wasn’t expecting the food to the ready straight away. I stood at the bar and had to walk through another area to ask where to pick up. I would have thought the man through the bar would have seen me. Anyway I was asked to take a seat which I was happy to do. Got advised that food wouldn’t be long which again. was fine for me. No rush. Food came in a box and I was asked if I needed help out to the car. Nice gesture. Also got a few pounds off the price. Perhaps being a larger order. Food was a letdown. I did like the Bruschetta but the Bread was very thick and hard to eat. Also tasted a little stale in bits. Tomatoes seemed fresh enough and Garlic butter was fine. 2 Pasta dishes ordered. Mine seemed a little bland with not much flavour to the sauce. Believe my partner felt the same about his. Large portions for the money but lacking quality in my view. Worst part was my partner got Salmon and Prawns and the Prawns were totally Frozen. Didn’t eat anymore of that. Just under £7 and straight in the bin. I didn’t like that the Pasta dishes came in Tubs they were like catering spread tubs. Mine had remains of stickers on the side that they’d clearly tried to remove but still remained. Gave a unclean look in my view. I raved about this place as had been before and it was my partners 1sr time but neither of us will be back here after this I’m afraid. Unacceptable to have frozen food at any time.

Love the eclectic atmosphere that assaults you as you enter the place. However, at this point it ends. The owner chef seams to be suffering from early onset of dimencia. He cooked and served us up with a calazone that was raw and uncooked, never mind unseasoned. A quick nod to the uninterested waiter who gave a shrug and A look that said he would sort it. He never, ne took it off the bill price. My partner left hers and was too polite to complain. My glass of red wine had a very strange taste, it was frothy when it arrived and tasted like it had something added to it, water ? White wine ? Who knows. I see ne reason why anyone would want to eat here. The price might be ok and the servings plentyfull but the food is so bad I would not take it home for my dog. My dog would eat anything but I did wonder if this mountain of uncooked calazone would have me struggling to bag the outcome from my poor dog. Save youself the bother, a cold kebab in a windy rainy bus shelter would be more pleasurable. Time for the owner to hang up his apron and call it a day.

The place itself is excessively cluttered with photos and various pieces of totally random decorative ornaments etc even small water features, the clutter only serves to give the impression of it not being particularly clean in my opinion. We ordered starters and mains and before they arrived we were given cheesy garlic bread and olives which would have been very welcome had it not been rather over done. The bruschetta was a very large starter but basically chopped tomatoes on garlic bread the tiny pieces of basil were dried not fresh , no parmigiana and no fresh pepper offered. The minestrone soup was again a large portion veg very chunky indeed but flavour wise disappointing, served with 2 large rolls with butter. Both mains were spaghetti with bacon onion wine and tomato sauce, the sauce seemed a rather odd colour (brownish rather than red from fresh tomatoes) flavour wise disappointing especially for an Italian restaurant. If you actually enjoy the food you certainly won't leave hungry as the portions are massive and prices unbelievably cheap. Unfortunately we won't be returning.

Firstly, we went for lunch, not to admire the décor, so excuse the title. The food was excellent, definitely sufficient in quantity and reasonably priced, so absolutely no complaints on that score.Myself and my Daughter called in for lunch, with neither of us having visited the Olive Tree before, and noting that it looks a bit "different" from the outside, we determined that we weren't going to let 1st impressions put us off. For people who haven't seen the establishment before, it looks a bit like a junkyard, with "memorabilia" of every description adorning the walls and all available pieces of ground. When we went inside, the impression was reinforced, though I'd feel very harsh comparing it to a junkyard, as each item of memorabilia probably has memories for whoever put it on display, and no doubt means something to them. As for ambience, it obviously gives the place a character of its own, and I have to be honest, it does feel very comfortable and relaxing, compared to the sterile character of a lot of newer chain restaurants/pubs.Now to the food. I'd read previously that the owner loves to feed customers as much as possible but as random visitors off the street, in for a bite to eat at lunchtime, we both opted for something off the £5.50 for one course menu. I ordered Chicken Breast in a creamy mushroom sauce with chips and my Daughter ordered homemade Lasagna, again with chips. I washed down with a pint of lager shandy and my Daughter went with a diet Coke. After placing the order and receiving our drinks, the Barman brought us four slices of baguette on a hot tray, to nibble on while he prepared our food. One slice each of Garlic Bread and one slice each with melted Cheese on top, all of which were very tasty and were eaten with gusto. When the main courses arrived, they were both piping hot, substantial in portion size, and very tasty indeed. Rather than being on the plate, the chips were served in a bowl on the side, and I'm sure there must have been enough to satisfy four people. This is when the Barman delivered his killer blow, because he put a large plate on the table with vegetable stew and boiled potatoes, saying this was a free extra, as they'd cooked too much.We ate what we could but needless to say, there was leftovers aplenty, so he put the half Lasagna my Daughter had left in a box to take away. The final bill for our food and drinks was £16, so not very expensive for what we were presented with, and the lasting impression we took away was very favourable indeed. We'll definitely be back, and I'm happy to recommend to everyone.

This is a quaint family orientated restaurant with all charm you could ever hope for. It was recommended to us by the owners of the Petreavie Guest House. The owner is just amazing. He is a fantastic host and so very charming; making you feel, instantly like one of the family. We had very little time to finish our meal as we had a show to go to at the Alhambra, but we couldn't have been more pleased with our meal and delighted by our surroundings. After ordering, we were brought garlic mushrooms and bread along with a beautiful bowl of olives. My Mother ordered the pizza, which was an absolute gastronomic delight. The closest I've ever tasted to pizza bought in Italy itself. I ordered the pasta Matraciana (hope that's right). It was..... Well there are no words. If I had had time to finish it, it would have been gone. We had the most fantastic waitress, Erin. She's a wee shining star. Full of smiles and an absolute joy. A wonderful hostess in the making. Our meal, although short lived, was excellent! The restaurant itself is eclectically decorated, which I am a huge fan of. All photos on the walls show you how much this restaurant and the family who own it are beloved. This is the place to come if you're in Dunfermline. We will be back without a doubt. We had picked The Olive Tree out if curiosity about the decor and some previously good reviews about the food. We went for a mid week lunch, the place was very quiet. Yes the decor was mad and very much a hoarders paradise bit I'm certain everything has a story and it made us all laugh. So our lunch order was taken very quickly, whilst waiting we were brought complementary garlic bread - decent size portion 10-12 pieces each and also a bowl of olives and a mushroom dish. Our food arrived in good time and was very tasty. The veggie pasta was a massive portion, it was agreed next time one pasta could be shared between 2. To top off all the food we then received complimentary chips - they were very fresh, some of the best chips I've tasted. As it was a birthday party towards the end of our lunch the music suddenly changed and an ice cream cake was brought over accompanied by some singing. Our bill was a very pleasing £26.50 for 4 main meals and 3 soft drinks! I would've paid much more. All in all it was an extremely please the surprise. I would definitely be back, just don't go with expectations of restaurant standards, think old man pub serves restaurant meals.

Firstly it's important to say how amazing the food was - great portions, great flavour & taste & brilliant prices for what you get! Good, well priced food with a great selection on the menu - so good it took us 10 minutes to decide!! Popped in around 3/4pm after meeting that ran over & both starving. Was slightly concerned once we sat down in what I can only describe as a 'busy' room with Magic Radio playing quite loudly from a cheap tv - was tempted to turn it down. Would recommend owners to maybe invest in a quality speaker system as it was very 'tinny' & poor quality sound. However, as much as it's very busy with countless clutter & didn't look the cleanest place in the world, we were so impressed with food & very friendly service we would definitely return! Food was seriously good for the price!

I love the Olive Tree it has really grown on me at first I was a bit put off by the oddments all round the room but the friendly service and amazing food at such great prices really brought me round. The pizzas are absolutely fantastic as are the mussels and the pasta .....I could go on.Beers cheap and very clean and a log fire in the winter all adds to the ambience along with Ferdos and Farry a great team !This has fast become a favourite wateringhole and everyone should try it at least once.

I visited this delightful restaurant with my family. The food was excellent, not to mention a wide choice of pizzas, pastas, Mexican and Spanish foods & great kids menu. The owner is a kind elder gentleman that resembles Omar Sharif. He has many interesting stories, and seems like he's lived for sure! He opened the first Italian Restaurant in Fife, having had over 8 restaurants over the past 40 years. He's served VIP guest such as Gordon Brown and His Royal Highness Prince Andrew. You'll believe me when you see the photos on the wall whilst you're eating!! All the food is freshly cooked, even the pizza dough is made fresh by the owner. The atmosphere is very warm, the building is one of the oldest in Dunfermline (few hundred years old) with old stone walls so very unique indeed. Being Italian myself, the atmosphere and food feels very homely. He has had a number of restaurants over the past 40 years. He opened the first Italian restaurant in Dunfermline, before all these new frozen pizza chain Italian restaurants opened up. You can taste the experience in the quality of the food. Overall, fantastic atmosphere, great food and excellent service. I can see no reason for the previous negative reviews, the Owner was probably making quality Italian food before they were even born!! Please try this place before you make judgements based on frivolous reviews from individuals that have no concept of what real food is. The most upmarket restaurant they've probably been to is the freezer section at their local supermarket. So if you're looking for somewhere unique with history then this is the place for you.

I'm perplexed to read some positive reviews about this "restaurant" I mean where have you eaten before? We were eventually served by a very pleasant man but was served first off flat juice, 4 of them there was a fly in one of our dirty glasses then waited what seemed an eternity in a dirty cluttered confusing scene from what felt like a nightmare! Magic music station blaring on a tv next to us which we had to turn down ourselves! Wish we hadn't when we heard the blaring what sounded like Arabic music from a crackling broken speaker in the back! But as I think we were in shock we stayed the lovely man told us to go take a look out side at his birds!? What? ok this just gets weirder so we go and right enough he has massive cages with about 50 odd budgies, cockatiels and little yellow ones which by the way had nicer looking bread in their cages than we got served! Back at the table and the meze of friend burnt unrecognisable food began to arrive first off a tray of I kid you not black rounds of what I assume was meant to be garlic bread, our lasagne would have been better suited as mortar for the Great Wall of china! My garlic mushrooms well I still can't figure out what they were.....lol the first pizza got sent back had anchovies on it was like biting into a mushy salty ocean which was relayed to the waiter as politely as possible and just said it was too salty so ordered ham and olive pizza instead................I wish I'd taken pictures the pizza that arrive at our table was not only Burnt but I swear it had about 40 olives on it not ones from a jar those big black one with pips in them and yes the pips were still in them! Oh and the absolute mountian tray of fries I swear I've never experienced anything like it had to make our excuses asked if we could carry out cause again we didn't want to offend the guys were really nice but clearly something gone wrong somewhere I think they should call Gordon Ramsey's kitchen nightmares or environmental health! Must be kept open by the school trade!

Went in for dinner after driving past it for years and wondering what it was like. It is pretty eclectic and chaotic inside, with stuff stuck, nailed and perched everywhere.Free wifi offered, but never tried it. They do a pre 6pm menu, which looks like great value. We were after that so had mushrooms to share and then calzone and pasta. We were the only people in, but the food was nice and great value for money. They brought us free garlic bread when we arrived, olives and chips with the main course. This isn't fine dining or fancy decor. It is very down to earth and a bit random, but has character for sure. The owner is someone we remember from over 20 years ago at the casa.Would we go back - yes we would.

I felt I had to put on a negative review as this place is rated so highly and people may think it's worth a visit...it's not and Dunfermline has lots of great restaurants. Had pizza and various other dishes, it's just not good food although the standard of customer service is top notch. Avoid. As others have mentioned it is a bit random that for example they put a plate of burned potatoes on your table without asking if you want them prior to getting your meal. The Pizza is clearly not made on site and it is juts frozen pizza you'd get for 50 pence at asdas. The interior is not great either. But as I said the staff are great, it's just horrible food.

My friend and I had been out for the morning and decided to try The Olive Tree for lunch. When we arrived there were a lot of kids from a nearby High School and most of them got up and left but some stayed on and were not challenged or told to leave. We were then the only customers and the meal was bizarre. Before the main course which is all me and my friend had ordered, we were served with free garlic bread and bread with toasted cheese. OK but very filling. Then we were given a dinner plate with a bowl of baked beans surrounded by dodgy roast potatoes and another dish with a kind of garlicky ratatouille with mushrooms.By the time the main course came we were feeling nauseous by the amount of food being dished up and I had the feeling that the owner had beans for tea the night before and we got the leftovers. Needless to say by the time the food we had ordered arrived, we could barely eat any of it but my friend was too polite to say the food was horrible and said she was full.We were then offered doggy bags but declined as I would not be so cruel as to give the food to a dog. Ah - maybe the schoolkids got baked beans and roast potatoes and we got what was left! The other thing about the place was the creepy feeling that there were so many pictures on the walls, old Happy Birthday banners and all kinds of old paraphernalia that it must be nigh on impossible to clean. it was like having lunch in a combination of a junk shop and a museum. The final nail in the coffin was being charged £3.00 for a glass of diluting orange with water and needless to say we will be giving the place a wide berth in future!

Had a lovely lunch here. It was a rare Scottish sunny day and we sat outside and had a very enjoyable meal. Service was good and portions were super large - and most importantly tasty! We were given complimentary garlic bread and garlic mushrooms which was a lovely touch and were very nice.My King Prawn main in white wine and garlic was superb, one of the best seafood dished I have had. Be warned the portions are very large and we just about managed to finish them! They do an excellent value lunch deal also.Service was very friendly and the owner has some interesting talesT ink it can be quite easy to drive past here but if you stop you will have a memorable meal. Will definitely return!

went back to the olive tree for a wee change as it had been a few years since we had been there, when we walked in we were met by the owner and given a great welcome, many people would not like this place as it is covered in old photo's of past meals and celebrations and other memorabilia.it's not the best of places if your looking for high class it's a bit rough and ready but the meals were first class.and plenty off it. as i said it's not everyone's cup of tea but the meals are worth waiting for, which is not long. i will be back.

When we first pulled up in the car park I was abut to turn the car around but my partner said "come on." We walked past stacks of wood and odd ornaments, down some old steps and into a v=bar at the front. The decor is not for the fait hearted. We were welcomed like long lost friends and seated immediately, drinks came straight away as did some complimentary items. I sat looking around the room, wandering where we had stumbled into, but then the pizza arrived and we had clearly found a gem of a place.People were friendly, I couldn't decide who was a customer or a member of staff as everyone was so relaxed.IGNORE THE Décor and you will enjoy the meal.

We drove past this restaurant about a month ago, and our comment to each other, was that " we have got to their sometime it looks unusual." IT IS.!!!It's unusual nowadays to get good food, and good service, but that is what you will get at the Olive Tree..You have to look past the "tat" on the walls, you have to look past the 1920's fixtures and fittings, and if you can squeeze yourself into one of the poorly equipped seating areas, you are in for a restaurant experience like never before. We had, a lovely pizza, 2 huge portions of potato wedges, a huge bowl of salad, and three drinks all for £20... along with that, we were supplied with garlic bread, and mushrooms, complimentary!!The hot food, was all hot, the salad was fresh and crispy, and the service to say the least unique!!No doubt about it, we will go back, its a long time now, since we experienced five star service and food, in a place that is well, well, past it's sell by date..It's not the Ritz, it's nearer to a transport café, but it has a style and uniqueness all of it's own.Thank you for a terrific lunch. See you again soon.Alistair...
