The Olive Tree in Dacorum

The food was lovely and seemingly authentic and despite the staff being polite - it felt like conveyor belt eating. Everything came at once and we felt rushed and pressured to eat and leave.This food deserves to be savoured and enjoyed with conservation and laughter. I want to talk about the flavours and share the food. Sadly this rushed experience means we will not return.

Great atmosphere, lovely staff and delicious fresh food. Plenty of vegetarian options available. Looking forward to the Autumn menu!

Such a lovely evening celebrating our anniversary. Food was amazing and atmosphere was great. What made it extra special was the staff gave us two glasses of Prosecco which was the perfect touch to our evening and wasn’t expecting it.

The food on its own is enough to rate here 5/5 but the customer service makes the experience next level.

Visited two days in a row now, incredible service, fast to bring our food, then when it arrived the food was sublime.The softness of the lamb by far surpassed that which any of the seven of us had eaten prior, with the only exception being in Greece.After the food, Greek coffee, the first restaurant I have been able to order it in the U.K.Worth coming again!

I was in Berkhamsted looking at flats and wanted to try out a local restaurant. I am so glad I decided to try The Olive Tree. A fantastic warm welcome and ‘introduction’ to the restaurant after being asked if it was my first visit. The food was, no other way to say it, spectacular. Was guided to the perfect number of small plates, every one full of flavour and perfectly prepared. We went as a family on Saturday 4th September. Food was excellent. It was extremely busy with customers but that didn’t effect the service. Staff couldn’t do enough for us. Will definitely be back. Well done The Olive Tree.

Never been here before we went last night for our wedding anniversary. Greeted with a complimentary drink and the menu fully explained. The food was absolutely fabulous and so fresh and great ambience. Cannot recommend the halloumi and feta starters enough totally delicious as was the lamb, sea bream , octopus and chicken and lots of other bits, we were greedy! The service was exceptional, the place spotlessly clean. Great value and we will definitely be back soon.

Our first time here, on a busy Saturday lunchtime. The welcome was very friendly, and the explanations of the various dishes and how many meze to order, was very helpful as "first-timers". The food, the wine, and the service could not be faulted.

Our new favourite restaurant. We came here for our anniversary meal after we fell in love with Greek food when we got engaged in Santorini last Autumn. We wanted the feel of the Greek authenticity so picked to go on the Taverna night (with live Greek music), which did not disappoint! Everything from the service, the quality of the food, the drinks, the vibe & the atmosphere was first class. We absolutely loved it and are hoping to return for the next Taverna night in a month’s time.

Fantastic restaurant in Berko. Staff are great and so friendly. Then we just love the menu and range of items available. The dips and bread are a must, great veggie food and the meat sewers were tender and delicious. Great cocktails too.

If you like Greek food, this is the place you will eat authentic high quality Greek food.We travelled from North London to celebrate a special occasion. We were glad to see that since our last visit - pre pandemic - standards are as high as ever regarding the service and the quality. Keep it up Olive Tree.

My family and I (four adults) visited the restaurant on a Saturday lunchtime. We had never been before and went on the recommendation of a friend. The staff were very pleasant and friendly. The lady who welcomed us offered us a choice of table on the ground floor or downstairs. We chose downstairs in a lovely sunlit white room with blue doors, very Greek in feel. We chose pitta and dips, a filo feta wrap, a selection of dishes from the Meze and chicken gyros, all of which were delicious particularly the spanakopita and the souvlakia. It was my daughters 21st birthday and the waiter (wearing a visor throughout) sang Happy Birthday and gave my daughter a complimentary baklava which was absolutely huge and again delicious. We left feeling pleasantly full, having enjoyed every mouthful. We will be returning.

Staff were very welcoming and helpful. My wife has hearing issues and we were moved quickly and efficiently from a centre table to a table in a much quieter area , in a corner , and they even turned off the music speaker above the tale.All queries when ordering food were handled quickly and politely.Apart from that the food was very tasty and served without delay.Not too pricey - good value for money.We were even advised that there was no requirement to leave the table early and we cold stay as long a swe wanted.Will surely visit again if convenient.

We visited this restaurant again for a family lunch. Covid restrictions still applied so the place was quieter than usual and the tables further spaced which did change the atmosphere somewhat. The food was delicious and there was a very good range of vegetarian dishes which suited my daughter. The service was friendly and efficient.We will definitely go again.

Wonderful honest Greek food. My 6 year old had a father daughter dinner in the way back from the zoo and we’re welcomed by our lovely front of house lady to our table where we enjoyed chicken wings lamb chops ( NextTime any chance of 4 rather than 3? They were so yummy) and a selection of fresh wholesome salads . I love your Greek food, thank you. It’s so nice to dine at a family restaurant. One minor point was there was a littleToo much burn on the lamb chop giving a slightly bitter finish, but hey it was a busy night and we still really enjoyed our evening. Thank you!

Went for lunch here with my Sister yesterday and will most definitely be returning. Staff were very friendly and welcoming and knowledgeable about everything on the menu. It was perfect for us because we love so many Greek dishes and they have an extensive mezethes selection, so if you find it difficult to decide what to have, do what we did and have a bit of everything. You will not be disappointed as the food was authentically Greek and, without exception, absolutely delicious. It is also fantastic for specific dietary requirements as my Sister is vegetarian and gluten free and had numerous options, which made a refreshing change for her. Cannot recommend this restaurant highly enough..... efharisto poli for a wonderful reminder of my much missed visits to Hellas and hope to see you again very soon!

I must say it was worth the wait. All the dishes were fantastic, the service and banter by our waiter Matt( no name badge)!! was excellent. Everyone was so friendly in making us feel special. It was a family occasion and all of us agreed everything was first class. The Olive Tree have always set high standards of cuisine which continues and thanks to all the staff especially those in the kitchen for making our family visit most enjoyable. Highly recommended. First meal out together after the birth of our second little one, so an attempt at a couples meal (but with baby on the side). Second visit to The Olive Tree and it’s just as amazing as we remembered. We did let them know we were bringing a pram and they made sure we had a table with space for the pram next to us with no hassle at all. All the staff were friendly and attentive. Food choice was amazing (I’m also GF and had loads of options) including lovely sounding specials. Opted for some classics, all of which were sensational. I’d forgotten just how tasty even just their houmous is! I could it a bucket of it. Also highly recommend the halloumi, the jelly that comes with it is to die for. All in all, another pair of very happy customers and can’t recommend this place enough. Great staff. Great food. Great atmosphere. Couple, family or groups. If you’re hungry in Berko go here.

A great night out. Unusual, as well as familiar dishes and taster ( tapas)The whole experience was superbly led by well trained staff, who clearly enjoy the olive tree experience. Beautiful attention to detail in the decor and the food was ' fine dining' quality. We will be back!

I'm not surprised this restaurant ranks #1 in Berko. The quality is outstanding with some new takes on freshly prepared familiar dishes, although maintaining the essence of Greek cuisine. Having travelled throughout Greece, it was great to see a high standard being met. The staff, interior, hygiene are all as one would hope for and the price was quite acceptable. We tried many dishes and nothing was average so we'll be back for sure. Restored my faith in Greek restaurants in the UK.

As a vegetarian I struggle to find somewhere with more that 1 or 2 options on the menu. This restaurant for me was such a find, absolutely loved it. There was so much to choose from and the food we did have was delicious. We were there early evening and the service and the atmosphere was great. Really enjoyed our evening meal. Will definitely be going back.

Last minute decision for lunch with the management. A warm covid compliant welcome and we were shown to our table for 2 in the bright downstairs dining area. Davide explained the menu and how things worked in that the food we'd ordered would be brought to us when ready. We ordered the leg of lamb, lamb and chicken skewers, new potatoes, asparagus, cod and salmon fish balls with some Halloumi. The Halloumi arrived first and had a really lovely pomegranate jelly. Next was the leg of lamb, served in slices off the bone...omg... beautiful. Chicken and lamb skewers and asparagus next shortly followed by the new potatoes. Shouldn't have but had another portion of the lamb, it really was good! Short break, then the cheesecake and ice-cream. Davide was attentive the whole time with drinks delivered in short order. A really really enjoyable lunch, thank you!

This was our first visit to this restaurant but it certainly wont be our last. The welcome was very warm on arrival. The decor was bright and cheerful.The staff were all helpful friendly and attentive. We chose 2 dishes each from the mezze menu, some we chose to share and some we didnt. The warm bread and dips was the starter and the bread was just so delicious and we had to order more. The whole experience just made a special occasion more special.

We LOVE The Olive Tree - and have often visited. The food is so fresh, authentic and delicious! The mixed dips for starter and Spanikopta and Kolokithokeftedes are my personal favourites for the Meze.The wine is authentic Greek wine and delicious. The staff are friendly, knowledgable and professional. The decor is beautiful and for a moment I believed I was in a Greek Taverna on a Greek island. Bliss! Also such good value for money! I adore this restaurant and will forever be a champion of it.

We went to The Olive Tree this evening. A great little independent restaurant serving Greek inspired food. The decor is lovely, food very tasty... but it was the service from Vivien that was special. Would definitely return and try other delights on the menu.

The most delicious meal I've had for a really long time. Booked this last minute slightly on a whim because not our usual cuisine. The chicken souvlakia was absolutely unreal. The chicken was thick, incredibly moist and the flavour was absolutely delicious. We had a mese mix of smaller plates, about 5 or 6 and that was perfect for 2 people. The pita breads were warm and the dips were so tasty. We also had chicken wings which had so much flavour and crispy just in the right places. The pudding was a malt chocolate slice and again, delicious. This was slightly on the pricier side, but for me, absolutely worth it. Whilst the dishes were very simple, the attention to detail and the amount of flavour was so fleshing.The interior was full of love and attention, with pretty plants and artifical vines on the beams. The host was very friendly and the overall experience was just so nice. Highly recommend.

Went with a few girlfriends on a Saturday night. So glad I had made a reservation as it was very busy. The staff are very friendly with always a smile on their face. Food was so fresh and very authentic. Thoroughly enjoyed it all especialy the filo feta wrap. Very clean and the deco made you feel like you were in Greece. Highly recommended and can't wait to return. Do recommend to book in advance. A+++

Wasn't easy to book here and it is clear why. Very friendly greeting and service for us and our two teenagers. We got a nice table at the front overlooking the high street. Service was quick and effective, they explained the small plates well and helped us get about the right amount of food despite my greed. Really enjoyed the various dishes (octopus was a pleasant surprise), the sea-bream main was a hit even with the kids. Their Assyrtiko was also a very good example of its kind. The evening wasn't cheap, but we probably ordered quite a lot of food. The bill was £200 for 4 with the tip, though there was maybe £60 on alcohol in there. Still good value though, and would definitely go again, repeatedly, if we lived nearer.

A Greek restaurant… welcomed and seated by English staff that knew every dish and ingredient on the menu… I’ve been many times before but always accepted the same… “have you been before do you need some help with the menu” Nothing is to much hassle and will aim to accommodate your every demand ….. just don’t ask for lemon celo because you’ll get Uzo (not sure any of that is the correct spelling) you can correct me if you see me down there.

I travel out from London to go to The Olive Tree, so when it was open again after so long I was incredibly excited to see this and jumped at booking a table for lunch. The meze options are amazing, lots of options that are suitable for everyone, I find I’m always stuck what to choose because I want everything! The Htipti and the Lamb leg are favourites, but everything is good! The staff are amazing, and incredibly friendly. I will always be coming back here!

Unfortunately the moussaka was off,not enough choice of mains on set lunch menu.I had vine leaves and pork very nice,my partner had taramasolata and macaroni which was okay.

A bit like the Tardis, much larger and airier than it seems from outside where it has the appearence of a small shopfront, don't be deceived.The large room at the back has a continental feel, light and airy. The menu is tapas based, the lamb and chicken mixed kebabs were cooked to perfection and the leek based filo pastries were very good. The salads were very different, the one we had was very tasty and clearly Greek based, feta, bulger wheat and mixed salad veg which hit the spot. Staff were very customer focused, altogether an excellent experience.The only small criticism was that the menu was a little short of 'meat' options. They were there, mousakka, fish of the day, but if you wanted kleftika for example we did not see it, so one or two 'meaty' options would be a good addirion to the menu.We will be back.

From the second you walk into this restaurant, it feels like a second home. They are such a lovely team of staff. The food is great, plentiful, and very reasonable. The wine is great. The taverna nights are great. You nearly start to believe you've had a bit of Greek sunshine, so warm is the experience. That said, it is probably a good job it isn't my home, or my stomach would be the size of a house.Try the meatballs.

Street food style takeaway menu was a bit of a let down, chips were soggy and portion size was small for the price. I had a halloumi wrap, which for £11 I would expect more. The halloumi was tasty but there were only a few wilted salad leaves and soggy chips in the wrap it just didn't look that great.Olive tree is generally great, the restaurant menu is delicious. But the street food menu we felt was overpriced for what it is.

We had an amazing dinner tonight at home courtesy of the Olive Tree. We had the Ares and Hades wraps, with a Greek Salad and some of the loaded spetsofia fries... brilliantly tasty! we were stuffed and happy!

Utterly amazing. The quality was so good and very delicious. Absolutely AMAZING!!! I recommend the lamb, meatballs and warm pitta. Good for allergies and a welcoming hospitality.

Everything about our evening was perfect, the Santorini Sunset Cocktail was super, the wine was great. The food though - it was just gorgeous, so glad we have found this wonderful restaurant.

Haven't been for a while but glad we went. Everything was first class. We had the Greek Classic Feast for 2 and you need to be hungry! Well done to the team in such difficult times.

Popped in here for the first time off chance this week for lunch. Had lovely food and made to feel very welcome to n arrival. Food served quickly and nothing too much trouble.Really tasty different food. My friend had one of the lunch time specials and I chose from the main menu. Hummus and bread really nice. I had Greek salad with a massive piece of feta and chicken. Friend had roasted peppers etc.Will be going back soon. Glad we have found a new place for our girls lunch.

Service was excellent, all precautions required to ensure safety of clients and staff were followed due to Coronavirus and we had a very nice lunch. Always enjoy this restaurant and never disappointed with quality of food and service.

Food was fantastic. Ate a selection of dishes, best of which were the fried shredded courgette balls, the spanakopita and the Grecian meatballs. First time here and the service was just as good as the food. Also, really safe and clean, good distance between the tables etc. Will be back.

We had the meat feast and the Moussaka from the take away menu and it was absolutely delicious. There was plenty of food and I could just have eaten the Greek salad, it was so lovely. Birthday treat but now will be looking for other ‘celebrations’ so we can go again. Also have to say great service when I went to pick up the food. All very organised and staff, charming.

Visited middle of September on a Tuesday night. Restaurant busy which was great to see. Felt very safe and very good spacing evident. All staff wearing visors and cleaning after customers left. Food delicious and plentiful. Staff friendly and attentive. Really impressed with everything. This is my fourth visit but first during Covid crisis. When the bill came we discovered they were doing 20% off all food. Can thoroughly recommend this restaurant and will definitely be visiting again.

Tables all very well spaced. The team all wearing visitors. Felt very ‘covid secure’The food was exceptional! We order too much but there was SO much we wanted to try!The feta appetiser is DELICIOUS! The souvlaki succulent and juicy. The Greek style chicken wings packed with flavour and a kick of spice! Flavoursome sardines. Soft calamari. Fresh Greek salad!My only disappointment was not having room for a dessert!!A really top evening. Thank you for creating such a lovely atmosphere. Felt like we were on holiday on the Greek islands!

this is a lovelyplave with lovey staff. We enjoyed a great mezze meal with the family. We had a corner table seperated with perspex from next door. Staff all very concious to be careful when serving us but still were very lovely. Food is lovely too.

This place is great. Food was unreal great selection of plates ended up ordering more at the end of my meal as I couldn’t get enough. Service was flawless very friendly and helpful. Will recommend to everyone

Firstly to compliment the restaurant on its COVID secure layout and procedures. First indoor meal for my wife and I and we felt very safe. Then to the meal. The menu as it says is meze, so Greek tapas. There is a starter section and also 2 house special mains, but the fun part is to order several small plates and enjoy. We ordered 6 between 2 of us, including 2 off the appetiser section of the menu. One of those, melitzanosalata, is a smoked aubergine paste served with pitta. It was simply heaven. The other plates we particularly enjoyed were the halloumi, sardines and slow roasted lamb leg slices. The food came a bit quickly, with 2 plates at a time but we had barely finished 2 when the next 2 arrived. Maybe a little gap between courses? Nonetheless, compliments to our fine waiter Tommy, who was most attentive and helpful. The ambience is lovely - Greek island-ish. The drinks menu included in the wine section only Greek wines. Not sure about that, but I guess it is a Greek restaurant. My wife had a gin and tonic that she raved about. My Greek Merlot/Cab Sauv glass was ok. The prices are reasonable, generally £6 - £12 for the small plates with most nearer to £6. The lamb was £12 but was a fair sized helping, so fairly priced.Please go there - you will not be disappointed.

Booked in thank goodness as restaurant was quickly full and people turned away. Having eaten here for the first time I know why. My friend and I were warmly greeted at the door and this was reflected in the service throughout. It is a meze, small dish menu. We ate hummus to start which was served with lovely warm pita bread. It was very tasty and garlicky. To follow my friend ate a delicious moussaka and I had a lamb wrap. This was a great lunch time meal. The wraps were clearly a popular choice. The setting and COVID safety were great. Food was lovely. Much recommend

Three of us arrived for lunch having booked online a few days earlier. We were greeted at the door by a lovely, friendly lady who took us straight to our table (after sanitising our hands). We were by the window and call me selfish, but I thought it was great looking out onto a rainy Berkhamsted High Street while we were cosying up to choose our food.There was a nice buzz in the restaurant with no spare tables that I could see. When a table was vacated, it was almost immediately filled by someone coming through the door. That said, everything was well spaced and at no time did anyone come near us, except for the waiter of course. Speaking of the waiter, he was very attentive, friendly and particularly helpful when it came to choosing the wine. The service he provided from start to finish was excellent. As we'd been advised, dishes were brought out as and when they were cooked. We had a couple of appetizers and an 'Ares' set menu. It had been difficult deciding what to have because everything sound interesting and tasty, but we weren't disappointed with our choices. The set menu was lovely and generous too. My vegetarian wife was really pleased with the good choices of dishes available to her. She had 3 meze dishes which looked really nice. She certainly enjoyed them and is now looking forward to coming back here again.The restaurant is well presented, clean and contemporary. There is some background music, but it was quite subtle.

6 of us descended on this charming little Greek restaurant for my wife’s birthday, we’d never been before but had high hopes after seeing all the great reviews.I’m pleased to say we weren’t at all disappointed! The restaurant is really nicely decorated, the service was friendly and efficient but most importantly the food was superb. We tried lots of dishes and everything was delicious, but highlights were the lamb leg and octopus which were out if this world.Needless to say we’ll definitely be returning.

From booking our evening to leaving after a delicious meal we could not have asked or wanted for more. Safety measures were clear and politely reinforced for diners, and for an evening we actually switched off from the woes of the pandemic! The food was exceptional and we really felt like we were on holiday- which was just the best feeling in the world. We were served by different members of staff, all very friendly and when there was a slight delay (and I mean slight!) we were even offered some extra appetizers. What a treat!We will be returning without a doubt!

Went there for my dad’s birthday as he loves Greek food. There’s a great variety in their meze options, I particularly liked the octopus. The food overall was incredible, the only thing letting it down is the Greek pop music in the background

This was our first couple night out since lockdown in March. A bit worried before hand but there was nothing to worry about. We did not see a single person come in without being asked to sanitise there hands. Very clear markings on the floor and tables all marked out correctly. The staff were fantastic and all have masks or visors on! Such a beautiful and friendly independent restaurant with the most amazing food!! So glad we supported local on our first night out and cannot wait to return! Thank you for normalising what has been a crazy few months!

Great food, served really well for a takeaway. As tasty as I remember from eating in, we will be back when we can sit in and enjoy a Mythos.

Carlsberg don’t make Greek restaurants, but if they did it’d be the olive tree in Berkhamsted. Tom was a fabulous waiter, and we had a very pleasurable time. They have handled social distancing tremendously, and made our dinner very enjoyable.

We went for our first eat-in restaurant meal since the beginning of lockdown, and I'm so glad we chose the Olive Tree. The food was excellent (as always) and the service was outstanding - Matt was friendly and diligent, and we watched him rigorously clean the tables, the bathrooms etc, multiple times throughout the night. He worked so hard and deserves the highest praise!Would highly recommend the Olive Tree as a safe and welcoming post-lockdown environment... and everyone already knows how amazing the food is!

This is one of my favourite restaurants and I love to eat out regularly. The food is simple but completely stunning - there is no overcomplicated menu and it is clear that so much care goes in to each dish. On top of this, the service is really warm and down to earth. We were served by one of the owners (the wife of the husband and wife team) and she genuinely seems to love what she does - she is so friendly, but not in an overbearing way, and very knowledgeable about the food and wine they serve (which is great when you know nothing about wine!). Really looking forward to visiting again once lockdown is lifted!

We should have been on holiday in Greece but, with the trip cancelled, we brought Greece to our dining table. Delighted to find that our favourite Greek restaurant had adapted to offer a takeaway service. Pre-ordered so everything was ready for us when we arrived at our allotted time. Fabulous selection of dips and meze. What a lockdown treat!

Great menu with a fantastic varied choice,it took us ages to choose as there is such a fantastic variety, very friendly staff as well.

My wife (Greek-English) and I, love Greek and Lebanese food and had almost given up trying to get an authentic Greek meal in the UK. We were exploring the area and after failing to get into a pub for Sunday lunch, stumbled upon this place. The staff are fab (we met the fabulous co-owner lady (fascinating mix of Italian, Australian and married to a Greek gentleman)). The food was stunning, wine is Greek. You can even get freddo cappuccino! The meal style is small plates. We are looking forward to going back!!

This has been one of my favourite restaurants in the area, but having suggested that we popped in for Sunday lunch to a couple of visiting friends, having raved how amazing it was, the woman taking our order and serving us had such an aggressive attitude we felt very uncomfortable. Having taken our order, ordering 2 dips she suggested we had 3 as better value, then also pushed us into having oven potatoes because they were so amazing....When the food came they brought two of one dish to the table and when we pointed out that we had only ordered one the behaviour was very aggressive and then we complained that the potatoes were not good as they were undercooked and still very hard on the inner, again the behaviour was very aggressive. Apart from the potatoes the food was fab and I would have always gone back for the food, but the treatment we got was really uncomfortable.

Can’t believe this place been o. The high street 3 years and I’ve only just discovered this fabulous heaven of beautiful food - this is my fave restaurant ... from the moment you enter there is a wArm welcome loverly team on duty but OMG thr food was just Devine ! Well worth a visit ! Superb superb superb
