We enjoyed the 6 course tasting menu especially the deer course which was our favourite overall We were 2 couples celebrating 2 birthdays and a wedding anniversary. Overall the experience was enjoyable but slightly marred by a very noisy table next to us which made conversation difficult. We enjoyed our coffee and chocolates in the lounge. Lovely and peaceful !

Tasting menus can be tricky to negotiate but the Olive Tree has the right attitude catering to customers tastes. Often it is a like it or leave it attitude but not so here. Firstly, you can have the full nine courses, six or even just four and it doesn't stop there as there are a few variations across the various menus which they are happy to allow you to choose from. Or as in my wife's case she is not a fan of goat’s cheese which was part of one of the dishes, the chefs were only too happy to substitute another cheese in its place. I went for the nine courses which actually turned out to be eleven courses. As well as the nine courses form the menu there was an appetiser, a really nice bread course and an extra chocolate treat after the 3 dessert courses. Each of the courses are truly unique and considering the ingredients, preparation and the number of staff I believe it represents good value. The creativity in dishes such as Jerusalem artichoke, Exmoor caviar, hazelnuts and maple syrup or Islands chocolate with Manni olive oil and Pedro Ximenez are pure skill. Impossible to choose even a favourite dish from first, second or third courses. As well as the nine courses I also went for the nine tasting wines which is always a gamble and maybe if I visit again I would choose my own wine as there were perhaps three out of the nine which I didn’t like but wine and how it tastes is unique to each individual. The staff were all wonderful and knowledgeable but my only criticism would be that each course seemed rushed and with little or no time between each dish let alone the courses and the descriptions and tasting notes for the wines were delivered at machine gun speed.

MORE AT TripAdvisor

The Olive Tree has been a favourite of ours for some years. It was a little sad when a year or so ago it fell short of its norm on a one-off occasion, but last week's meal was right back to the top-class restaurant that it is. Bath has no shortage of excellent restaurants. The Olive Tree is unique among them, offering its full imaginative cuisine over 3, 4, 6 or 9 courses, each one as exciting on the eye as it is on the palette. My wife is pescatarian/vegetarian and was allowed to choose between three menus over the six courses we went for, making it easy for her to enjoy an uncompromisingly excellent meal. Aside from the cuisine, of which I can only say, go there and enjoy it, the wine list caters for the higher and more modest ends of preferences. And the restaurant is very informal by comparison to other high-end restaurants. Jeans and fairly casual dress is normal, but some customers do dress up more. And the service perfectly balances a relaxed informal friendliness with the courtesy and knowledgable staff you would expect from this type of establishment. For us, six courses was perfect for our appetites. The portion size is perfect, and we walked away feeling exactly as the chef would want - neither stuffed, nor wanting more. The flexibility over the number of courses makes it easy to visit on many types of occasion. Of course, no-one would describe the restaurant as cheap, and, for most people, this is not a restaurant for every-day eating, but the pricing sits comfortably in the more modest end of the top-class restaurant scale. As for dishes, I refuse to highlight any of them - everything was perfect, and the staff will explain each one if you wish. Nothing will disappoint, I expect. Overall, I could not recommend The Olive Tree more if you're looking for top class cuisine at Michelin-star level, in an informal but delightful setting.

Fantastic! Everything was great. Excellent service. Very considered and well curated wine list. Food was exceptional. My husband and I were fortunate enough to visit the Olive Tree for the 9 course tasting menu. If there were six stars for food and service I would give them! This was the most amazing food we had ever experienced. Teaming with flavours and textures that we had never experienced. I particularly enjoyed the langoustine course, and my husband the fallow deer and beetroot. We loved the tonka bean parfait for desert. The staff looked after us very well and we enjoyed a cocktail at the upstairs bar before our meal. Mine was non Alcoholic as I’m pregnant, but it was still beautiful. We will never forget this meal, and would recommend this special place very highly.

A really amazing night. Service impeccable and friendly. Restaurant could be a bit cosier...food is awesome. Had the "nine" tasting menu. Many 10 out 10 dishes....especially the deer, the spelt and the chocolate dessert. Would have given full marks for the food had it not been that some dishes were underseasoned (trout especially). But this place is brilliant and well priced for a Michelin star venue.

Nine with wine; I didn’t read the menu just trusted the Team. Absolutely outstanding - immaculate, enthusiastic (young chefs serving the dishes they have made) and friendly service, knowledgeable without being intrusive. Beautiful food and a broad spectrum. Jerusalem artichoke a standout (caviar and maple syrup mind blowing). I’ve read some reviews suggesting poor desserts - wrong! The chocolate with Manni olive oil and cocoa nib ice cream probably the overall best dish. And great wine pairings - from British pinot noir, Sicilian orange wine, champagne, port and more. Solo dining can be an odd experience but not here and there was a lovely buzz about the place with all diners enjoying the experience. Terrific.

The food and service was second to none, we had a very nice time the only thing I have to say is maybe improve the decor. Grey seems to be the interior colour of choice at the moment, being a graphic designer I have my doubts about this. When there are millions of vivid and brilliant colours nature gives us, we humans choose grey. The colour scheme does not have to be garish or loud, but just the right balance of colour's to add atmosphere to the room.

We had the 4 tasting menu. We arrived to have a cocktail in the bar. The cocktails were very good but not in a nice glass which was a shame. It was beautifully decorated but not very comfortable. Staff were helpful, welcoming and knowledgeable. The restaurant was a little like sitting in a corridor, again not very comfortable. It’s a shame the duck wasn’t on the menu for me. I don’t eat beef and that includes Veal and venison both on the menu. I loved the langoustine dish and the chocolate lips were wonderful. I thought the staff that brought the meals and their commentary of the dishes seemed nervous and inexperienced. A couple of the dishes were presented on corn and shells which at first we thought were edible but they weren’t. This seemed very odd and not attractive either. We ended up spitting it out. Although some dishes were delicious I didn’t feel there was enough to temp me again.

After several visits to the Olive Tree over the years I was left extremely disappointed after my recent visit, concluding that this restaurant does not deserve to retain its Michelin star unless it does a complete overhaul of its senior front of house. We were left to serve our own wine when our female server/sommelier vacated the dining room for a length of time and the male serving the other room watched us serve and didn’t even think to step in. It is a great shame as the food and chefs serving were amazing but their senior wait staff completely tainted the evening. On a side note the female toilets had run out of hand towels on the first visit and on the second visit still hadn’t been replenished with nothing to dry your hands with. When you’re paying £200+ per head (we decided to pay the service charge purely for the kitchen’s sake) you expect a much higher standard of service and I won’t be dining at Olive Tree again.

My partner and I were lucky enough to experience the 9 course tasting menu with wine pairing, the food was exquisite! When each plate arrived at the table the chef that had prepared it explained the dish which made the experience even more special, the sommelier also did the same with the wine. Each dish looked like a piece of art! An explosion of flavour and complexity Textures and pure heavenly tastes fill your mouth in a what can only be described as perfection. The experience was so amazing we went back the very next nigh for a 4 course meal of our favourites. Would highly recommend the trout, pumpkin, lobster and cheese and tomato dishes. WOW Staff where fantastic and very knowledgeable

We generally avoid the 'big name Michelin star' restaurants in London, due to their production line approach to customers. But everything about our evening at The Olive Tree was faultless - as was our entire weekend stay at the Queensberry Hotel. My wife and I opted for the SIX menu, with one standard and one pescatarian option. Creativity, flavour, and presentation were a constant in both. We couldn't have enjoyed my birthday weekend in Bath more, having been at the theatre to see a spellbinding performance of The Score on Saturday night, followed by dinner on Sunday night.

We had a lovely experience at the restaurant last night- we had the six courses with wine (not the pairings). The service was brilliant from the moment we walked in. The team worked well as one oiled machine and were very attentive. Chefs came and explained the dishes in detail and were pleasant and polite. We really enjoyed all the flavour combinations and cooking techniques. We really had a great time and are so happy we got to experience the only Michelin restaurant on our trip to Bath. We had Trout, Pumpkin, Lobster, Truffle spelt, Deer, Raspberries (husband had Chocolate)

Disclaimer: our review is strictly assessing the vegetarian tasting menu. We came here for our 3 year anniversary, thinking it was the best restaurant in Bath (with a Michelin star). The food was bland and lacked heart. The only course which we would classify as “adequate” was the spelt (primarily due to the truffle) and the chocolate dessert. Everything else we ate was uniformly mediocre and lifeless. The wine pairing was boring. We feel like we wasted a night and £450. Bath has many wonderful wine bars and places for small bites that are vastly superior. If you are looking for a vegetarian tasting menu of Michelin quality, go to Bulrush in Bristol.

Ona ten day stay in the UK, dinner at the Olive Tree was the high point. Everything about it was perfect: the service excellent, the food divine. Cornish lobster, succulent; venison , perfection; raspberry dessert, wonderful, and all exquisitely presented.we traveled across England , dined in many fine restaurants , but the Olive Tree was the best, and unforgettable .

I wanted to take a moment to express my utmost appreciation for the extraordinary dining experience I had at your Michelin star restaurant. Each dish that was presented to me was a work of art, both visually stunning and bursting with incredible flavors. I wholeheartedly give your restaurant a 5 out of 5 rating for its outstanding food, service, ambiance, and overall experience. Thank you for setting the bar high and for consistently delivering excellence in every aspect of your establishment.

We had an amazing time at the Olive Tree restaurant. It was everything and more than what we were expecting from a Michelin Star rated restaurant. The service was attentive but not overbearing. The placement of all plates, utensils, etc. was impeccable. And, of course the food was amazing and just the right amount in every bite. We chose the 6 course meal and we were very satisfied and full from the entrees we chose. Not one of us ate something they didn't like and we tried everything. We pushed ourselves out of our comfort zone and chose dishes we had never had before. Everything was Excellent. I wish I could remember one of our cooks names because she was amazing and did such a great job explaining certain foods to us.

We came here for a milestone birthday and it did not disappoint. It started with a wonderful experience in the bar with the very knowledgeable and friendly bartender. The liquors in the bar are all very unique and different from what you usually see, in a good way! We then moved downstairs and had the six course tasting menu with wine pairings which was spectacular. The service was excellent and so was the atmosphere. I cannot recommend this experience enough: sophisticated yet friendly and relaxed, a very beautiful environment and delicious. Worth every penny!!!

We enjoyed a wonderful 6-course tasting menu at The Olive Tree, Bath on the evening of my 50th Birthday at the end of August. Each course was presented beautifully and by friendly staff - it was not at all stuffy but appropriate and welcoming to a mixed clientele. The flavours in each dish were exquisite and we were delighted to be introduced to a 'Nutritional Yeast' sauce - this was just divine - though we couldn't help but think it could do with a catchier name (not the restaurant's fault of course!). The only negative comment I could make would be that the cutlery didn't quite fit with the attention to detail paid to everything else. The decor and surroundings, the professionalism and friendlilness of the staff, the glassware and dinnerware were all elegant and just perfect, but the lightweight cutlery did not seem befitting of the rest of the experience. I would like to recommend as politely as possible, a visit to Robert Welch or their closest distributor! Overall, we had a very lovely evening and hope we will have opportunity to return some day...

I visited the Traveller’s Rest last night for dinner with my boyfriend and another couple. The staff were really welcoming and friendly and were patient with us when choosing our orders. We all had main courses and desserts and everything that was served was of excellent standard. The strawberry cheesecake was particularly light and delicious. We cannot wait to return to try some of the other options on the menu!

All the food was not very nice indeed. Nothing was made from fresh. Had the steak and ale pie. The beef had been cut up into slices and then made smaller obviously roast beef left over from Sunday lunch, ( this was Monday evening. It was served with what looked like a grey torpedo of mashed potatoes which had neither milk nor butter in them and some green beans which were like rubber. Horrible. The pudding of apple crumble was watery with lumpy custard.
