We ate here on a Tuesday evening and had an excellent meal - we will certainly return. The food was of a very high standard - we both had the Hake main course, which was really flavoursome and just the right size of portion to be satisfying. The whole meal was of a very high quality and we were made to feel very welcome by the friendly atmosphere and service. A great touch was that the table bookings were timed such that customers arrived at 15 minute intervals - the organisation was very impressive and the effect was that you were able to have a relaxed meal without either feeling chased up or having long waits due to congestion in the kitchen. This really is a textbook example of how to do quality dining in a small restaurant space. Finally, just to note that the meal was extremely good value given the quality. We are already planning a return next time we are in Padstow/ St Merryn

From the moment we booked until the moment we left everything was first class. When we booked we were offered advice on taxis. We had a choice of tables on arrival. The food was amazing from the starters Mackerel Pate for my wife and Scallops for me. Main courses of Bouillabaisse for my wife and amazing Hake for me. This was followed by local cheese and magical home made biscuits. The service was friendly and attentive without being OTT. To sum up a fantastic place

The Ancient Mariner Bistro

19/05/2019: We were recommended this restaurant by friends who had eaten previously on holiday. We were certainly not disappointed the friendly welcome was amazing. The menu was explained in great detail and the fact the fish was so fresh was superb.
05/05/2019: A very friendly welcome. Great service, without the pressure to order or rush our meal. All freshly caught and sourced ingredients. If you looking for fish, you MUST try here 😊

Scott & Babs

18/07/2019: Follow a recommendation, we travelled down a very narrow road, got lost and then found Scott & Babs.
20/07/2019: We are staying at Rettorick & one of the reasons for booking was a bar & restaurant on site. Having rung up the week before to book some meals I was aghast to be told 'No vacancies before Aug 6!' However due to heavy rain yesterday there were some cancellations so we did manage to get a table. It is the most bizarre bohemian setting but it does kind of work. The food is cooked on a fire. All the ingredients are out in front of you. Very child & dog friendly. I don't like small children but we did find a peaceful corner. There's a fire pit....sofas everywhere...plenty of vegetarian options. The aubergine cous cous dish was beyond excellent. The staff are attractive & charming. We'll certainly eat there again if we can get in. I wish they'd tune the piano in the marquè though. The kid playing it was clearly talented.
