Delightful venue, lovely garden, excellent food, owners look after every detail and we cannot recommend it enough.

I booked the whole restaurant for a group of 19 of us to celebrate my 60th birthday.Philip and Nicky looked after us really well, managing to run the whole evening beautifully, and everyone commented on how much they enjoyed the food.One of us was a vegan, and while their standard menu doesn't offer a vegan option, they were happy to produce something special for him.

Breakfast only.. anaemic eggs ! not free range, however bacon sandwich very nice.. Locked down without notification [closed]..

We had a very memorable family evening at The Olde Forge to celebrate a 50th birthday. We had the whole restaurant to ourselves and enjoyed a superb meal.We were welcomed and looked after by Nicky and her staff who provided an excellent service through out the whole evening.The food was delicious and plenty of it making it a memorable evening.The whole evening from the planning stage to the delivery on Saturday evening was handled efficiently and professionally by Nicky and her chef husband Philip. We had a very relaxed and enjoyable evening thanks to them and we are looking forward to returning soon. I highly recommend The Olde Forge for a special and memorable evening.

I love this little hotel. Both friends and family have stayed at The Old Forge and been very happy with the service. The rooms are simple but comfortable, and the staff are welcoming and friendly. I have found them to be very accommodating when our plans have gone awry at the last minute, resulting in late check ins. Would highly recommend!

We are a group of friends who love to meet up and every year we go out for a Christmas meal. This year we chose The Olde Forge and we all thoroughly enjoyed our evening. We were warmly welcomed by Nikki and soon found ourselves happily having a drink and tasty nibbles in the bar area (with toasty log fire) The dining room was beautifully laid out and we again had a log fire to keep us warm. The food was beautiful - we had ordered our starter and main course in advance and a special diet was no problem at all. Phillip and Nikki who own the restaurant were helpful, friendly and professional. We felt relaxed and comfortable - the meal was not rushed and neither was it drawn out. All fresh food - nothing out of a packet! Menu included meat, fish, vegetarian and vegan options. We will definately return :-)

Never got to meet Philips wife as she had an accident, came to stay for a family wedding, lovely rooms and amazing breakfast Philip couldn't do enough for everyone who was staying at the olde forge would highly recommend booking if we are ever in the area will definitely book againThank you for an amazing stay

A wonderful warm, hospitable and comfortable stay. Phillip and Nikki the owners are adorable. Thoroughly recommend. Couldn't have been better and yes Phillip's breakfast is superb! Here's to next time.

These lovely people came to the rescue of myself and my boyfriend when I had accidentally booked another hotel/inn nearby for a time 2 weeks ahead of when I needed it (12.08.17)! Luckily they had a cancellation that morning and offered us the room.Its a lovely building with plenty aged related quirks (wonky stairs & limited headroom) but its bright, clean & decorated in a stylish but modern way. The room (Elm) although facing the main road was really comfortable and we had a lovely overnight stay.The breakfast the next morning was delicious and the couple that run it were very welcoming, helpful and friendly

We arrived after a long journey to a lovely house, greeted by the owners Phillip and Nicky who were very friendly and welcoming! We were shown up to our room which was the Wisteria room. The room was one of the bigger rooms I believe as we had our dog with us (who was made very welcome!) and the room has a balcony for him to come and go in as he pleased. The rooms are very nicely decorated with plenty of storage and the beds are very comfortable. Our private bathroom was directly opposite our room and this was not an issue at all! We had dinner our first night in the restaurant and it was lovely! Breakfast was brilliant with a selection of fresh fruits, cereals and juices and a choice of a full English breakfast or fish. The breakfast kept us full most the day! There is lots to do in the area with the seaside town of Eastbourne only 20 minutes away. This hotel is perfect if you have a doggy! We were made to feel very welcome, it was our first holiday with a dog and we were nervous but Philip and Nicky made everything very easy! There are some big fields opposites the hotel perfect for walks our little bear loved it! We can't wait to come back!! Thank you for a lovely birthday weekend

Este pequeño hotel familiar era muy buena. La habitación era excelente y bien amueblada y limpia con ropa muy buena, en especial las almohadas. No comer en la noche, pero si el desayuno hubiera sido muy bueno.

Nos alojamos en el hotel, Hostería Forge realmente amable y acogedor se tomó el tiempo para hacer la conversación y era muy acogedor, una preciosa habitación con todas las cosas que necesitas té, café, televisión, ventilador, ducha habitación en dulce realmente cómoda. La mañana comenzó con una bonita selección de desayuno, zumos de fruta fresca y bollería cereales desayuno inglés bien hecho sin duda nos alojaremos de nuevo

Whether it is dinner for two or a small party, do give the Old Forge a try. You'll find a cosy ambience, you'll enjoy food of good quality and you will receive the very best of attenton from the friendly Chef/Owner Phillip and his "front of house" wife Nicky.Our recent visit was for a party of 11 to celebrate a 50th birthday and was outstanding.

We stayed a couple of nights whilst house hunting in the area. It was a lovely quiet retreat to destress....very helpful friendly owners who made our stay even more pleasurable, nothing was to much trouble for them. Food was first class, and service exceptional. Thank you.

Had a lovely stay for 2 nights,we were a family of 4 and a dog ,rooms very clean and we're cleaned both days , everything you needed were in room ,lovely and cosy ,we felt very comfy there ,if there was anything you wanted you just ask Phil or niccy nothing was too much trouble ,gave us good advice on places to go x

We have been looking for a "must go to" place to eat for a while and, my goodness, have we found it. Welcomed at the door and taken for pre-dinner drinks and nibbles. Food was well cooked, the steak cut like butter. A good selection of vegetables. Good choice of desserts to finish off. Service throughout the meal was lovely with both owners making themselves available. Best compliment I could give them was the return visit booked before we left. Will shout about this place

Had a great weekend staying at the Olde Forge with a group of friends for a Christmas get together. Nicky and Philip were fantastic hosts, with nothing too much trouble including a full Christmas dinner menu tailored for our group. Lovely hotel and restaurant, rooms are comfortable and very clean. Food was absolutely fabulous. Highly recommended, will definitely be going back.

Great food! Dishes are delicious, well prepared and well balanced. Portions are generous but that doesn’t mean overwhelming. It’s clear that quality ingredients are used. Vegetarians and vegans are catered for. I recommend starting off in the (well stocked) cosy bar for a pre-dinner drink, where tasty nibbles are provided.

Charming hotel and charming hosts, can't fault it. Clean comfy well equipped rooms. Great food (well breakfast, anyway)

Can't find a fault! 15 adults, 1 two year old and a 10 week old baby, fitted around a beautifully presented table. Food was awesome, staff fantastic. A very cosy and intimate setting. Wonderful, hope to return many times in the future.

Very comfortable accommodation. A wonderful warm welcome, intimate atmosphere and a dining experience second to none. We couldn't have wished to meet a lovelier couple than our hosts Philip & Nicky. We highly recommend a stay here.

We recently chose this hotel as a venue for an overnight stay, to celebrate our wedding anniversary. On a very cold January afternoon the warm welcome that we received was much appreciated. Our room was cosy and well furnished and it was very easy to soon make ourselves at home. As is stated on the web site of the hotel, the rooms are not huge but I feel that they are what can be expected in such a building where the charm and character rise above room sizes. A pre-dinner drink accompanied by delicious canapés enjoyed whilst seated by the lovely big log fire was very relaxing. Dinner was really delicious, we could not fault either the quality of the food or the excellent way that Philip had cooked it. I rarely manage to work my way through three courses but although the portions were more than ample I did justice to all that was offered simply because it was all too inviting to refuse. After a good nights sleep the quality and choice at breakfast was the icing on the cake. It was the best breakfast that we have enjoyed in a hotel for a very long time. We could not have chosen better for our last minute 'get away from it all' and certainly hope that our first visit to The Olde Forge will not be our last.

My parents, my Wife and I came here for Christmas, we arrived Xmas eve and departed on the 27th. The stay was excellent. Philip and Nicky really do go out of their way to make you as comfortable and as happy as possible. The rooms are very clean and well maintained. The hotel in general is very homely. But above all what makes this hotel stand leagues above any similar establishments is Philip and Nicky's friendly nature and welcome. They really do make you feel at home and very comfortable and welcome. The food is all fresh and home cooked and is sublime, perfect really is an understatement. All in all our stay at the Olde Forge Hotel was excellent. A Christmas to remember for all the right reasons. Thank you so much Philip and Nicky, we will see you in March when I will treat my wife for her birthday.

My self husband and our dog and my husband parents stayed here for christmas eve,christmas day and boxing day, the owners nikki and phillip have been amazeing they cannot do enough for you. The quailty of the food has been out standing,dont think we have eaten in any restuarants recently that served food as nice as what phillip cooks,its all freshly prepared and cooked. The small things have made it really special as well, from the christmas card and a box of chocolate as a christmas present on our arrival,the great christmas crackers,the friendlyness and welcoming nature of the staff,the rooms are really comfy and the dogs enjoyed it as well. Would totally recommend this lovely place to any body,we will deffinately be coming back at some point.

The food at the Old Forge Hotel is simply divine. All three courses were amazing and the plates were empty each course . Personally i would highly recommend the duck , absolutely beautiful . I have no hesitataion in recommending the restaurant, and will definetley be going back soon, more courses to be tried !

I recently took my sister and her lovely neighbours here for a birthday dinner. All four of us had a delicious meal. One of our guests commented that his fillet steak was among the best he'd ever had! My own Beef Stroganov was melt-in-the mouth tender, with a lovely sauce. We much enjoyed chatting to Nicky and Philip, our hosts, and nothing was too much trouble for them. Finally, I was most pleasantly surprised by the bill! Hugely recommended!

We have just spent a really lovely week staying at the Olde Forge Hotel. It's a small family run hotel with a relaxing atmosphere, delicious meals prepared with fresh local produce and even home made bread. We were very comfortable and our host and hostess could not have done more to look after us. Highly recommended

We were looking for somewhere special to celebrate our wedding anniversary whilst staying at nearby Wartling, and our son recommended The Olde Forge as he had stayed there whilst in the area on business. We were not disappointed. Not only was the meal excellent, but hosts Nicky & Philip were absolutely charming. We will definitely return when next in the area.

We hired out this hotel and restaurant for a whole weekend for some of our close family members during our wedding. They prepared a lovely personalised menu for us on the Friday night - the food was outstanding and well priced. The breakfasts were lovely as well with lots of choice and they were easily able to cater for special requirements.

We have had the great pleasure of dining here a few times, one being Christmas Day others being Birthday celebrations...Needless to say, our repeat visits tells all.Philip and Nicky are so attentive and welcoming that you are made to feel at ease the minute you enter.The food and service are second to none and if there are special requirements it is never an issue.Would highly recommend the Old Forge.

A wide choice of menu, beautifully cooked. I would like to have tried lots of the dishes but will go back another time.

We had a lovely evening here when staying locally, visiting Herstmonceux Castle. We were greeted by Philip and Nicky who couldn't have been nicer. They accommodated us and our dog, moving tables and opening the french doors so he could be outside, but near us in the restaurant. Unhurried, but attentive service and great food. The wine was perfect.Slight drawback: We needed to choose our menu beforehand, which I am not used to with just 2 of us eating. However it meant that when we arrived we could just relax on the terrace, drinking champagne, rather than mull over a menu, so, no problem at all!Another reviewer said that it had exceeded her expectations, and it did mine too.I would definitely return. Highly recommended.

We decided to stay at The Olde Forge based on it's close proximity to The Cuckoo Trail, and the good reviews on Tripadvisor. We are a family of five and stayed for two nights. Our two boys (aged 6 and 11) both celebrated their birthdays at the hotel, and our hosts, Philip and Nicky made sure that they both really enjoyed their special evening meals. We made our food requests in advance and I can honestly say that we had our best ever experience of eating out as a family, the food was great, and the hospitality and service also excellent. Thank you to Philip and Nicky for making us feel so welcome, and ensuring that the whole family had a great time at the Old Forge.

I wanted something really special for my husband's big birthday to share with our closest friends and we all certainlty found it at The Old Forge. Superb food, service and atmosphere - greatly exceeded my very high expectations. Many unexpected extras and nothing was too much trouble. A great success.

Recently, my husband and I enjoyed a delightful dinner at The Old Forge in Hailsham with four young women who are students at the Queen’s University program at Herstmonceaux Castle. It was a memorable party with a great atmosphere, lovely log fire, picturesque dining room and a warm welcome. Our hosts, Nicky and Philip went out of their way to make sure that this was a special evening for us. The food was delicious and the students were impressed with the great choices. Having told our hosts that one of our guests had a food allergy, they sent a menu ahead of time and made sure that there were no difficulties. In addition, they also provided the name of a local taxi company so that we travel easily to and from The Old Forge. We returned to Canada with wonderful memories of a special evening thanks to Nicky and Philip.

Great food, very fresh and well cooked, and plenty of it. Recommend this for staying at the hotel or eating out.

I spend many months every year working away from home and one of the most frustrating challenges is finding somewhere to eat in the evenings where the food is good quality, well cooked, and offering value for money. For me, it's also important to have to ability to vary from the standard menu when the feeling takes me.This restaurant delivers all of the above for me. The owners procure their produce daily - if I ask for something specifically for that evening (i.e. something perhaps not normally on the menu), they will go and find it for me. Alternatively, the extensive and varied menu is also available any evening.....it never fails to impress with the quality and quantity. Some restaurants pile food high and seduce with quantity at the expense of quality. Other, more pretentious restaurants serve tiny portions and tell you it's 'nouvelle cuisine. The Olde Forge is neither of these - meals are filling, tasty, well cooked and presented and never leave you hungry but always wishing for more......

My parents took us to this restaurant in October since then we went back at Christmas and also booked for New Year, the food is amazing, starting off in the small intimate bar with log fire, then you are taken through to a wonderful dining room with open fire, oak beams, the charm and character is wonderful. The food is simply stunning everything is cooked and presented to a very high level and the team are so accommodating and welcome you like a family member, I would highly recommend a visit.

My husband and I visited The Old Forge Hotel in October 2013. We stayed for 3 nights and included the evening meal each night. We live in London and love to go to restaurants and experience great food. The food at The Old Forge was some of the best we have ever tasted, it is a memory I will never forget. We booked The Old Forge Hotel for valentines night, the menu was set and a warm greeting from the moment we walked through the door. Drinks, canapé fresh and described which we had. Food and drinks order taken swiftly, shown through to the table. Starters plenty of good quality fresh salad and fresh homemade malted bread on the table. Mains arrived again cooked to perfection and all fresh and good quality meat. Deserts very unique read out to you and fresh homemade gorgeous desserts. So overall a truly unique dinning experience with good quality food all through out your evening and they listen to your individual requirements.We will return thank you for our wonderful valentines meal.
