Fabulous food. Overbearing hosts. Thank heaven we didn't have to endure the Sommelier. No wow factor but that made it very relaxed. Overall pleasant evening.

Unfortunately, I feel this restaurant has gone down in quality since our last visit. The service was not as good. We ordered a wine flight with our meal at £45 per head, and the sommelier forgot on several occasions to come to the table to introduce the wine when it was served and when he did come he showed little enthusiasm. The food was nice, but I would expect a higher standard for the price and location. The decor is starting to look tired and in parts is water stained. I do not think we will be returning.

Absolutely great place, seasonal menu. Excellent wine list and sommelier. Don't expect to come here on a budget but do expect excellent service and a meal to remember.

What a gem! On Sheffield's doorstep too. From the moment we approached the entrance to the moment we left, the whole experience was elevated. I sincerely felt special. And the food was next level, we had reservations that perhaps it would not be quite so filling, but it was. The wine selection and drinks are really well put together, some cracking recommendations. And the coffee digestif was great too.

Been a couple of times in the last few months for special occasions. The food is high quality and very well presented. Wine matches perfectly. The service is attentive and friendly without being intrusive. Beautiful surroundings. Classy place. Love it.

This was a real dining experience. The surroundings are beautiful and tasteful and the dining area is small, cosy and select. We had the tasting menu with the matching wine flight and it was all delicious and very flavoursome. The seven courses were quite small with the exception of the main roe deer course, but we felt comfortably full after we had finished. The ingredients complimented one another and the presentation was second to none. Compliments to the chef. The waitresses were polite and everyone was knowledgeable about the food and the accompanying wines and they were all able to answer questions we asked about both the food and drink. It isn't a cheap dining experience but certainly an experience to behold, be it a once in a lifetime visit or for an occasion to celebrate. You are made to feel special. The only slight criticism we had was with the Sommelier who tended to speak about the wines to my husband rather than to the pair of us. Even when I asked a question about the wine, he addressed the answer to my husband. I am equally as interested in wine as he is, and am especially knowledgeable about France and the regions he was talking about, having lived and worked in France for a year, so I was particularly bristled by his lack of awareness in this field. Otherwise, we would totally recommend the experience to anyone who wants to enjoy and celebrate any occasion in a unique way.

The meals are so very good. It’s so like a Michelin star restaurant . And the staff are so very nice.

The crown may have slipped ever so slightly in recent years since the Michelin star was lost, but this is still one of if not the best restaurant in the Sheffield area. The food is excellent, the location and grounds are beautiful especially in spring and summer (albeit kind of close to nowhere), and the service is very good. As such any negatives are slight and need to be considered in the context of an exceptional restaurant aiming to be world-class. With this said the lounge and some of the waiting/relaxing areas would benefit from an update. The front of house manager was excellent but some of the service staff could perhaps do with a little more schooling in the art of silver service -- nothing major just not quite at the level you expect at an absolute top drawer restaurant. We had a great meal and a lovely evening and can't wait to get back

Delicious dinner and service at the highest level. Definitely worth the money. My wife and I celebrated our 6th wedding anniversary and it was really great. We'll be back there

We went on 2nd July to celebrate our golden wedding anniversary. We had the prestige menu and it was excellent. Carole is front of house and just the right person. I said I didn't want my lamb too rare and when it arrived it was perfect. I don't understand why this place doesn't have a Michelin star because the food is of such a high standard.

Although Tessa Bramley has been Chef Patron at The Old Vicarage for over thirty years, my relationship goes back even further, in fact another decade, so there’s a long history of fine dining, and I can honestly say things only get better. Swerving the three course option we choose the Prestige menu, a six course tasting option, with matched wines. Every course is a delight, exquisite flavours, elegantly matched and beautifully presented.

Went here for our anniversary, overall we were a little worried when they started bringing out small portions at the start, however they got bigger with each new plate… it was the perfect amount to fill us up nicely! Overall the experience was very lovely, romantic and just overall outstanding. The food itself was very unique and this restaurant 110% deserves its Michelin star.

How this restaurant in not no 1 in Yorkshire, I have no idea. The food was not only delicious but each plate was so beautifully presented. The wine flight paired the food beautifully. The staff clearly all love working here and without exception every minute at The Old Vicarage was thoroughly enjoyable. We will definitely return even though two hundred miles away. I can see why James Martin loves this place

After the end of lockdown, my wife and I finally got to celebrate this year. We have both been to the restaurant before and we both wanted to return. On arrival we were greeted and taken through to the drawing room, and had pre dinner drinks. We opted for the dinner menu and accompanying wines.On a previous visit the sommelier had gone out of his way to explain and persuade my wife to try Red Wine. Now she is a full on convert and I owe this to him.The food is classic British with a little modernity thrown in, and I like the "If it's not broken why change it" I'd much rather have traditional cooked well, rather than contemporary cooked badly. All the courses and accompanying wines were stunning, if I had to be really picky the sauce on the beef and fish were a little thin. The final course of apricot flavours was truly outstanding.We then had cheese,port, coffee and petit fours, and I treated myself to a 12yr old single malt.Apologies for no photos, however my wife and I don't take photos of the courses.The service was efficient and polite and all done within social distancing rules. To sum up this isn't our last visit, there will be more to come.

Second time here and just as good as before - a lovely experience with friendly people who are down to earth and knowledgable. Menu adapted for a pescatarian and wine pairing was enjoyable. Yes it’s not a cheap night out but it’s an experience so enjoy it! Cheese board is also recommended if you fancy an extra treat

After being very quick to initially reply to an e-mail to enquire about some voucher's for a golden wedding anniversary present they then didn't reply to a query about dietary requirements or to another question about adjusting the package slightly. I then rang twice. The first person couldn't help as I had to ring during business hours despite the website stating they were only open on a Thursday, Friday and Saturday evening. On the second occasion I spoke to a lady and was told that the voucher package was set to include the wine flight at £40 per head. I totally appreciate that this would be a lovely experience for somebody that drinks. When I asked if one of the wine flights could be removed as one person does not drink I was told 'no' as this was how the package was set and there was no possibility of adjustment. I would expect some flexibility surely?

No es solo una comida fuera, es una experiencia. Desde maravillosos cócteles en el salón hasta el menú Prestige de 8 platos, todo fue delicioso. Los camareros fueron atentos, discretos y eficientes, pero discretos, por lo que toda su atención está en la comida. El ambiente era relajado y cómodo, con buen ritmo pero sin prisas. La comida llegó perfectamente preparada y presentada y fue prácticamente todo de lo que hablamos. Tener el mismo menú para toda la mesa le brinda el disfrute de una experiencia compartida. Este es un lugar al que volveríamos para una ocasión muy especial.

Tuvimos la suerte de volver a visitar nuestro lugar favorito para cenar cuando volvieron a abrir el viernes 7 de agosto. ¡Qué delicia! El menú de prestigio fue un triunfo con platos bellamente elaborados como codorniz asada con lavanda y besugo delicado y perfectamente cocinado con deliciosas salsas y hierbas y verduras frescas de la huerta. Nada era demasiado problema. - los chefs de Tess pueden adoptar, adaptar y elaborar platos alternativos en un abrir y cerrar de ojos (¡o tal vez un delicioso vino del vuelo del vino!). La experiencia fue 'verano en un plato'. El servicio profesional, cálido y debidamente distanciado para Covid. Salimos brillando como si hubiéramos pasado la noche en unas vacaciones de verano. The Old Vicarage debería estar en la lista de deseos de todos. . . . pero deje una mesa libre para nuestra próxima visita, por favor! ! !

We have been to this restaurant twice before although not for a long time. The food was very disappointing with raw salmon, and tough beef. Portions are miniscule and the mushrooms very salty, Apparently thats how food should be cooked according to the waitress and the chef. Waitress patronising in her attitude and manner.There was no atmosphere as only us and another couple there on a Friday night which does not bode well. Such a difference from previous experience at this beautiful restaurant. We will not be returning £158 for 2 wasted.

My 2nd visit in two years over Valentines weekend and it had a lot to live up to from the perfect first visit here in 2018. Suffice to say it was wonderful yet again from start to finish. Beautiful food, wonderful wine, lovely staff and a sommelier who is the icing on the cake. Had two prestige menus with wines (one veggie and one non-veggie) plus cheeseboard at the end. Drove a long way to visit and paid extra to stay local simply to experience The Old Vicarage again and I am already looking forward to the next visit in the summer hopefully...and i plan to bag the window seat! Thank you again.

Have been a fan of the resturant for many years . It has never disappointed me the service and food are outstanding. We had a wonderful Intimate wedding reception here and planned the menu every one was delighted . Flowers on the table looked fantastic supplied by First for flowers .

Recibimos una cálida bienvenida y durante toda la noche todo el personal fue atento, amable y eficiente. Habíamos reservado el menú de prestigio y no me decepcionó. Cada curso fue excelentemente presentado y fue una sensación de sabor. Nos dieron una cuenta de los ingredientes y de dónde eran, muchos de ellos de sus propios jardines y de la zona. Nos quedamos encantados con la noche y lo recomendaría encarecidamente. Lo visitaremos nuevamente.

Very very expensive Christmas dinner. Have been going for 4years,unfortunately never again. Out priced themselves at £175.00 per person. As myself and partner hardly drink it was a ridiculous price to pay. Nowhere near enough food even though there are several courses the vegetables given to us towards our main course were a complete joke . In ordering our Christmas lunch we felt extremely rushed especially as we had to choose our dessert at the same time. Rush ,rush that's all it was. Every course was rushed,not much time in between for a little rest. Extremely disappointed.

This place has so much class. I love a tasting menu and always get so excited to try somewhere new. The building is gorgeous and you are greeted straight away at the door and taken in to a beautiful lounge area where you’re drink order is taken straight away. The waiting staff were very informed on all the wines and dishes and being a vegetarian myself, they made sure I had just as good of an experience as the other person I was with. The nice thing about this place is that it is such a personal experience. It’s not horribly busy so the staff can pay attention to every table. I will be recommending this place to a lot of people.

Excellent food, service and setting.Second trip in six years to the old vicarage, this time we sat in main restaurant instead of the conservatory which improved the atmosphere and service noticeably.We went for the seven course Prestige menu with four of the group opting for the wine pairing at £40 pp. All the courses and wines were of a high standard and each were described in detail when presented by four or five different members of the service team which was a classy touch. The first course was the lemon sole - absolutely amazing, one of the best fish courses I’ve ever had, it was a stand out dish from the rest. In my opinion the dishes that followed were refined and high quality but would benefit from slightly stronger flavours like the lemon sole.The service was impeccable from the minuet we arrived until the minuet we left! Coffee and pre drinks in the oak panelled sitting room added another dimension to the experience.The meal for six came to £754 which although we had cheese and biscuits and wine, was very expensive when compared to other restaurants in its class. The Old Vicarage is a gem of Sheffield offering a service and atmosphere that is unrivalled, no doubt soon to have its Michelin star back. Would definitely recommend for any special occasion needing a classy restaurant.

Dos de nosotros tuvimos la experiencia del vuelo del vino, un vino diferente para adaptarse a la comida con cada plato, el vino y la comida siempre se explicaron completamente, lo cual fue muy interesante. Genial para una ocasión especial. Muy recomendable.Dieta totalmente atendida con gran cuidado.

Although living 2 miles away we had never been before. What had we been missing. Excellent 7 course meal. Very knowledgeable and friendly staff .

We went for a celebration and had the prestige menu with wine pairing. Every mouthful was absolutely amazing and the wines went beautifully. The service was exceptional and we enjoyed every minute. Definitely recommend for a special evening!

The old vicarage provides a top end gastronomic experience. We enjoyed the £70 seven course Prestige menu for a birthday celebration but were disappointed by the lack of warmth from the personnel and very irritated by the excruciating imperative "Enjoy !" that followed the presentation of each dish ...

I had the pleasure to eat here once but it was enough to ensure I never went back, not value for money and to be frank its a little snobish

Nos mudamos a la zona el año pasado y encontramos este restaurante a pocos kilómetros de nuestra casa. Visitamos para celebrar un cumpleaños y decidimos salir. El menú de degustación y el vuelo de vino a juego fue fantástico: el menú fue adaptado para un pescatarian que se hizo maravillosamente. Todo el personal con el que nos encontramos era profesional pero muy sensato y nada mal ventilado. Nuestro camarero era joven y era muy eficiente y amable y los otros 2 anfitriones estaban encantados de hablarnos sobre los vinos de una manera muy comprensible y el vuelo del vino es muy recomendable. ¡Volveremos!

No disabled access - wouldn't provide hot refreshments other than a glass of water to guests who arrived early and who had travelled considerable distance to get there even when guests prepared to pay for it - although clean and tidy some areas could do with a bit of cleaning (stains on inside of windows)

We both went for the Prestige menu. Even though one was vegetarian they complemented each other and the ingredients of both were superb. Also lovely narrative by waiters.

À very good place for a good meal. An interesting choice of finest wines. The place To be for an anniversary ! We enjoy to be there for our anniversary of 30th marriage with our son.

Attention to detail second to none.

Fine dinning it definately is. Without a doubt the food is delicious and well executed and beautifully presented. However the experience was somewhat marred by the overly zealous front of house service.I have been fortunate enough to dine in some glorious restaurants so I am well aquainted with what good service should be like. Unfortunately I felt patronised, uncomfortable and falsely welcomed. I was made to feel that I should be grateful for being allowed to dine there instead of the other way round. The majority of the waiting staff were very nice but the many were over shadowed by the few. My lasting impression will not be of the delicious food but of how the experience was spoiled by the unnecessary superior attitude of particulary pretentious front of house staff. I will not be returning.

I booked the tasting menu for us 4 family members after discussion with the restaurant to check they could accommodate my dietary requirements of being pescatarian which meant all 4 of us would be unable to eat the same menu. This presented no problems for them and they were very charming and helpful. The meal was delicious each course quite exquisite and our son and daughter in law enjoyed the flight of wines to go with each course and the detailed explanations from the very knowledgeable sommelier. who arranged for a flight of beers to go with my husbands tasting menu . The evening was an early celebration of our sons birthday and we look forward to returning here some point in the future when we visit Sheffield .
