The Old Kings Head in Daventry

First Sunday lunch from the new owners. Excellent food, staff and service. Fresh vegetables, nicely cooked and far too much for us to eat. At the point of having had an excellent lunch but then presented with the desert list, all of which are handmade!!! There are also local handmade cheeses on the cheese board. Based on a local village pub, excellent.

Waited at the bar that was blocked by locals who eventually moved so we got served...no customer service skills whatsoever by the people behind the bar....never even said hallo or goodbye...or even sorry for the wait.....how its still in business I do not know

I want to be fair here. 7 of us entered and 2 wanted food. Most wanted coffee but there was only one person serving which delayed things. We had to ask for menus which were given out but the food, which actually was very good, took too long to arrive with not many people in. The chef wasn't told where I was which is a lack of communication on the bar staff. The blackboards were full of information relating to last November and December. Why hadn't these been cleared and new events published? We are honest but could have easily walked out without paying. You don't have much competition so time to up your game methinks.

Came here with my friend and the family running the pub were so helpful and lovely. The pub itself is beautiful and homely.

Went on Saturday and had a fantastic meal Alison and her team did us proud I had the steak after having very tasty starters and the steak was cooked to perfection and very tender one of the best sirloin steaks I’ve had and being a Yorkshire man at a great price great service and a friendly welcome by Alison and her team make it inviting to eat and drink at the old kings head.

The best pub in town! This place is amazing great atmosphere great pub grub. During the month there are lots of events held its just a great place. We have only recently started going here as we aren't locals but its worth visiting.

Great service and good pub food the cask beer was very good, the bar staff and waiters were amazing and so helpful and friendly. The pub its self is set in a nice location with good parking, it has a lovely area out side and inside has the air of a traditional country pub serving traditional pub food. I would recommend that you book a table as it is a popular place for the locals

We used the Old King’s Head as one of two bases (mainly for food and drink) last weekend, when we got married in the village. We cannot recommend them too highly. They did everything to make sure that our guests enjoyed their experience. Special thanks to the landlady, Alison, and the landlord, Phil, along with Lauren and the rest of the staff. You did us proud!

A friend of our s won the pumpkin show in 2019 which was well attended, plenty of bar takings. Sadly they are.still awaiting their prize. Will not be attending again!! The drink prices are way over the top.Service is poor and unfriendly.

We used to use this pub quite often under the old management. The new management are extremely rude and unwelcoming. We won’t be returning whilst this management team are here.

We decided that our first post Lockdown meal should be at our local pub(which did an amazing job of being a Community Hub during lockdown) and we were certainly not disappointed. The pub has been reconfigured to provide an easy to follow one way system which allows you to check in, be shown to your table and then leave after your visit without any risk of breaching Social Distancing requirements. The menu at the moment is fairly limited but that is understandable given that patronage is also fairly limited but nonetheless the quality of the food was very good. Two main lunch courses for £12.00 is very good value! Service was excellent and appeared to be very safe - drinks and food all brought to the table on trays which we then took, the same with condiments and sauces and final (contactless) payment was also carried out at the table. Well done to Alison and her team for making our first “meal out” so enjoyable and for all that you’ve been doing throughout the Lockdown. Long Buckby is very lucky to have you and your great pub! Let’s hope that before long things will be fully back to normal.

I would just like to say a big thank you to all of the staff at The Old Kings Head for our lovely meal this evening, especially Sophie and Ali. The measures that you’ve put in place made us feel safe, more importantly, your service made us feel so comfortable. You’ve done an amazing job not just with opening back up but with all of your efforts during lockdown, you’re a real credit to the community.

Was very disappointed with the venue and the whole meal from start to finish . Menu was boring, not much choice . Food was mostly cold . Even my pudding chocolate fondant was so cold that the inside was solid . The pub was cold , no heating , long fire place had Xmas lights in it to make it look like it was alight . The pub was empty and totally sole less and not one once of atmosphere. Will not be returning there .

I took my MiL here for our 'Christmas dinner' when she was down to visit at Christmas and I was so embarrassed. We were asked to pre-order our food weeks in advance. Completely fine with this, but we get there and they don't even have a record of how many people, let alone what we want to eat. When the food arrived, some parts were undercooked (raw camembert), some parts were way overcooked, and then we were overcharged. I assumed that it was a blip because they were very busy so we've been back twice since but we've had gone off beer, and wrong food amongst other issues so we won't be returning unfortunately. One positive is that the staff have all been lovely

We live locally , over the past 18 months there has been a number of changes of ''landlord'. The current incumbent , Alison, has been in post for a number off months now. After an indifferent start food wise, the restaurant now sell good value for money meals in the evening and lunchtimes [Tuesday-Sunday]. Staff turnover is still frequent so it says to ask if there are any specials before you order.From a pub perspective it is welcoming and the beer is well kept.The locals hope this current arrangement will remain for some considerably time

Absolutely fantastic. Place is heaving with people, so the barmaid informed us that there is a bit of a long wait, wasn't too bad, while waiting we had some of the house white, quite good. For the meal we both had the sirloin steak, cooked as we requested it. Prices are okay, £14.95 for the steak. Quite a good menu.Coming back again in the summer to enjoy a meal with friends.

A lovely pub with a great atmosphere but the vegan option for Sunday lunch was thoroughly disappointing. I was served a couple of slices of aubergine encasing raw cauliflower, topped with unseasoned tomato paste and charged £11. There were no vegan starter or desert options. Would not go back for food.

We went down for a meal for my birthday the end of Dece with friends & all 8 of us really enjoyed the food. Another meal tonight & again lovely, the chicken with white wine sauce was amazing! Service great too. Thanks guys.

After recommendations on Facebook re vegetarian food etc we visited.It was a Saturday afternoon.There was apparently a small function. They were just serving the mains when we arrived.We were welcomed by a lovely very young lady. Another older lady also behind the bar but very glum.We were told there would be a 30 min wait before we could order. I told them i wished for vegan and gluten-free food. Was told this would be ok and sorted with the chef.Any way when chef talked to. A salad proposed. On a cold day last thing i needed. Chips were offered twice but cooked in same fryer as fish!I suggested a vegetable dish could be made Any way what came did not even fill a saucer. Few chunks chopped potatoes mushrooms and 2 pieces of broccoli on top.The main for the rest of the family came but just very small with a scraping of mash!On payment they were charging me for a main meal. I told the miserable looking one that was not right and eventually just paid for a starter.Wish i had taken a photo but just so shocked.I will never eat in this pub again.

Good quality Sunday lunch, generous portions, great Yorkshire puds, not expensive and friendly, helpful staff. Will be back soon.

Food took ages and was certainly not worth the wait! Was warm not hot, bar staff seemed completely clueless with a very lazy attitude. Lady in charge was more interested in making sure everyone was aware she was the new landlady than training her staff

Lovely cosy, country pub, with a nice range of beer on tap. Waitress was really friendly and helpful. Food was awesome, proper pub grub! Tasty and decent portions too. We'd definitely come back here.

Eight hungry cyclists arrived for lunch (OKH was pre warned!) and we were welcomed warmly. Soft drinks remarkably cheap / good value which was nice as we were very thirsty! Good selection of food on offer inc for vegetarians and excellent value too. We had to wait a while but as a deluge came and went we were not too bothered, and the food was well worth waiting for. I had a delicious omelette (as did four others) and the best chips I've had in years! The baguettes and pasta also all looked good. As we had nearly 30 miles more to cycle we did not hang around for pud or coffee but I am sure it would be good, and the landlord was very obliging. Chef came out to say hello which was nice. NB Ladies toilets spotless (with a powerful hand dryer!)

Visited tonight 02-08-19, what a disaster ordered a sizzling platter king prawn nothing complicated after 50 mins, guess what turned up 4 battered prawns, lettuce and green beans, spoke to manger who decided to argue that this is how a sizzler should come, total idiot he then decided to apologise after embarrassing us in front of the whole pub, he told us the chef was um new and didn't understand i guess in 6 months time it will be boarded up complete and utter disaster we went to the pizza place in the high street.

The new team have had a few weeks to settle in and a new chef has arrived so we decided to give Sunday lunch a go. What a fantastic treat it was. We were a group of 10 and an early sitting. The staff were very polite and helpful throughout. The meals all arrived quickly and everyone agreed that the quality and presentation was exceptional. Value for money is also excellent and we will most certainly be returning soon. Well done to the OKH team.

We have been down here on a few occsions since new Management have taken over and what can I say? Vey nice, polite, friendly staff on all levels. Alan, the new Landlord is a lovely chap and has taken the time to advise how he sees the business move on to greater things. Great selection of Beverages and good fair prices. All parts of the establishment are spotlessly clean! Had a meal last night as a belated celebration Birthday Dinner for my Son. Food was excellet value, very well presented and the Steak was to die for!!!!!!!! Thank you Alan, Ian and all of your wonderful staff for making a 110% effort of ensuring we had a fantastic Evening! Please keep up the superb work!

Almost simultaneously ordered an almost same round of two drinks as our friends. They were charged £9.05 and us £10.05. Two identical gin and tonic, plus them a bottle of Bulmers and us a pint of Amstel. Just after we challenged the price and before the staff made themselves available to discuss, another customer challenged his cost of the round. He was charged for a higher priced wine than what he got.

This is my local pub and I have seen it in its different incarnations over the last 22 years and it has not been a pretty sight. And then Matt and Katie arrived and they have transformed this pub into everything a village local should be: warm and welcoming, whoever you are; great food, well prepared and something for everyone on the drinks front. There are no end of things to do and themed events. I have met friends and colleagues alike at this pub, attended the Sunday night quiz and never once felt awkward walking in alone.

It is rare that I feel moved to write reviews but having dined at the Old Kings Head again I feel I must do just that. My wife and I were saddened to learn that the current landlords, Katie and Matt are moving on to new things. Despite being in the last days of ownership, standards were as high as ever. I can honestly say that we have NEVER had a bad meal, a bad pint of beer or bad service. In short nothing but excellent. Four and a half years ago prior to Katie becoming landlady this pub was on its knees. Through hard work and high standards they rescued this pub and turned it into a highly successful family (and dog) friendly community centred venue.

Such a lovely relaxed evening. We visited the OKH for a evening meal on Saturday. It was quieter than I have seen it during our previous visits but that played to our advantage, the staff were very friendly and hit just the right balance of being welcoming and attentive without fussing over us. We both chose burgers my husband very much enjoyed his classic OKH burger but my veggie burger hit another level. A lot of restaurants (in my experience) fail to deliver on veggie food but not here there's always something innovative that I haven't tried before and this burger with peanut butter was hands down the best I've had. We don't visited here anywhere near as often as we would like but it has always been our go to for meals out ... we have never been disappointed and last night was no exception. Well done for making this place the success it is and for laying a solid foundation for whoever is lucky enough to follow in your footsteps - I'll be popping in to ask for that burger recipe.

Sadly the current owners are due to leave in a couple of weeks and the experience at this potential goldmine indicates that their hearts are no longer in it. We were asked to change our preferred time for booking which we did, even though it wasn't especially busy. We had to go to the bar after about 30 minutes to ask for menus. We were not told that the fish and chips, one of only 4 main courses, was not available. We both chose gammon and chips; the gammon was dry, the chips were overcooked but tepid, the cherry tomatoes I assume were microwaved. The meal took 45 minutes to arrive and no-one asked if we wanted another drink. We were told that they don't do 'table service' when they're busy; the place was half empty! We advised the manager of our dissatisfaction and were told it was 2 main courses for £16, which is a good job, because it was hardly worth that, let alone any more! Overall impression is that, as the current owners are leaving in a couple of, they no longer give a stuff and it shows in tonight's experience. I really wouldn't bother at the moment but sincerely hope that whoever takes over does really well because with a bit of effort and TLC, this place could be an absolute goldmine!

Superb food, tasty gravy with amazing roasts. The scotch eggs were so good we took away 3 afterwards!! Desserts were amazing too. Can’t fault anything about it. The service we received was so friendly and the food was fast, especially as we were a group of 10. The couple running it are incredible and we wish them all the best as they move on.

A group of 7 came here for Sunday lunch. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff and chef who prepared a plain meal with out the sauces for 1 guest who was not feeling 100%. The soup and pate starters were full of flavour and just the right size. We all opted for one of the Sunday roasts just a shame they had run out of beef but the lamb, chicken and Turkey was perfectly cooked, nice and tender, juicy and more than enough for all. The Yorkshire puddings were homemade and we each had 2 and there were enough vegetables we all left some but not the cauliflower cheese, that was amazing. We all decided on a desert though and these were again just the right size and yummy. Would recommend for Sunday lunch.

Just been with the god children for lunch. Excellent ciabattas with various fillings served with salad leaves, coleslaw and chips! Matt our host even brought Noddle our dog a biscuit for her lunch. Beer excellent and well supported by the locals.

The weather was just horrid but the welcome was warm for lunch today. Bar, orders and service by Matt the landlord. It’s so nice to be able to take our dogs into the eating part of a pub too. The restaurant section at the end is dog free though. Understandably some folks don’t like them.

I booked TOKH for a private function for 20 people on a Friday night at short notice and Matt the landlord went out of his way to help set it up. He produced a two course set-menu for us to pre-order from with a set price which really helped to organise our group.

We recently moved to the village and this has quickly become our go to when we want a relaxing meal out with dogs in tow. The food is always spot on and they will always consider menu deviations to cater for all. Matt is an impeccable host too

Fine old village pub (or is this a small town?); whatever it is, it's a great pub, sensitively modernised but retaining two bars, with a slightly more formal restaurant at the end of one of the bars. The licensee is very friendly and hardworking, appearing to be on his own at front of house on a fairly busy lunchtime, but making a great job of serving all customers, diners and drinkers, and going out of his way to ensure everyone was made welcome. There's a good, varied mid price menu with all the regular pub classics plus some more interesting dishes, supplemented by a specials board from which I chose the Braised Beef Cheek (£14) which was absolutely divine - a generous portion of delicious, tender meat accompanied by a good selection of vegetables and a red wine gravy. You certainly won't go hungry here! There is also a range of baguettes available lunchtimes, £8.50 each. Beer is excellent too, with five handpumps, two seemingly devoted to Everards and the other three offering a varying range of ales mostly from smaller breweries - for me a pint of deliciously hoppy Lincoln Green Archer went down very nicely.

We have eaten here on several occasions and always enjoyed what we had. Tonight I was served overcooked fish and chips; tartar sauce like I had never seen before - not sauce but just coarse cut capers and gherkins. Mentioned this to the waitress who just made various comments that really did not address the issue. Not sure we will eat here again. My partner had the coconut curry which he just describe as OK -- overall a disappointing experience.

I have visited the The Kings Old Kings Head several times now and the food is always delicious, the service is fantastic, such a friendly team. My hubby likes the selection of beer and gin. We brought some friends on our latest visit and they loved it too. They live in a city so really liked the cosy friendly atmosphere of a village pub. I would highly recommend a visit to The Old Kings Head.

We decided to visit the OKH to try the evening menu as it’s been a while, the service, staff and wine were great however, I am sorry to say, the meat served was a bit tough/ over cooked which made it chewy to eat which was rather disappointing given the cost, sorry to say we won’t be rushing back.

Replacing fish with halloumi might need other meal elements changed too. Eg minty peas. Halloumi was very overcooked / burned. V rare steak had good flavour but pan not hot enough so outside pale amd inside only just warm.

We were recommended this pub for an evening meal as we were staying nearby. The pub is easy to find and has a small car park at the rear of the building. We were welcomed by the staff who found us a table even though it was a busy Friday night. The service was excellent, prompt and our order was exactly as requested. The food was delicious and just the right amount, not outrageously large or small portions; the pub offers small portion sizes on some meals which is considerate for those with smaller appetites or people who dislike wasting food. The steak was delicious and the merlot was a very good quality wine. We’d highly recommend this place if you’re looking for a quality pub.

10 of us went for lunch - we were warmly welcomed and seated straight away. Sometimes when large parties go out for food there are delays or food comes out a different times - this was not the case - the food was hot and served together. In the group

Standard country pub. Food is good. Atmosphere as you would expect, mix of families and couples on Sunday lunchtime.

My daughter and I had a wonderful roast dinner. I had the vegan option which was delicious and my daughter had the beef and chicken roast dinner and she said it was really tasty. The service was lovely, really friendly staff. We will definitely be going again.

Came here for our first wedding anniversary and we were not disappointed. Fantastic food, deserts are absolutely incredible. Such a cosy atmosphere. Really great people here too, would definitely recommend it. Oh, and a giant pumpkin! What more could you want!?

Not been to this pub for 3+years. Popped in for a quick lunch with friends, very impressed, there has been some nice changes in the deco, the landlord was very friendly and didn’t mind a quick chat, good customer service skills. Only had a Steak Baguette and 2 soups both were really tasty and thoroughly enjoyed. A nice change compared to some places nowadays.

The food was absolutely delicious and arrived in a timely order. Just that the waitresses weren’t very friendly, at times even quite rude/cold.

We had several meals and quite a few drinks here while spending a week visiting the village, all the meals were of a high standard but we were grateful smaller portions were available as we do not have country appetites! The landlord and staff were all very friendly as were the locals we met which made our stay very enjoyable, there is a good selection of wines which we made good use of! The Sunday lunch can be recommended, our thanks to all those who made it such a pleasant week. I used to live in Long Buckby and it was lovely to see this brilliant old pub back on form.

We were looking for a family friendly Sunday lunch on our way home from a weekend away and thought we would try here....I was congratulating my husband afterwards as the staff were so friendly, the food was excellent and portions perfect, really couldn't fault it, would recommend to those with kids, the Sunday lunch was great!

We were made very welcome by everyone even though there was a large party there at the same time in another part of the pub. There was a good choice on the menu and everything we chose was good. The attention to detail was noticeable. Zoe, who served us, was cheerful even when we were difficult, changed our minds and asked her to bring items we had previously declined. Table water with slices of orange and lemon was lovely.

I have eaten at the OKH Long Buckby many times over the last 3years. The service is always good. The food goes up and down in its ratings for me. Overall it is good but it has its down days. The atmosphere is always great and you are made to feel welcome. I hope to eat there again soon in expectation of a good meal day.. I do reccommend it to everyone who asks.

Great food, and service with an interested waitress who was able to advise us on the menu and also the selection of Gins available. The décor is "old pub", mostly because it is an old pub, with lots of wood visible. Portion sizes are good and there was a choice of three fish dishes on the main course which was brilliant. We would go again, definitely.

Fortunate to have the OKH as my local, good selection of drinks (usually a few guest ales too to choose from), a well stocked gin selection and great food. Friendly staff and relaxed surroundings make for a lovely venue whether your celebrating a special day or just popping in for a cheeky pint and a chat. Highly recommended.

Food could not have been better. Excellent service from Matt and his crew, as usual. The quality of the food was beyond criticism - even what might be termed "common or garden" dishes are really well cooked and presented with great flair and imagination. Strongly recommended to lovers of good food.

I'm not really a pub person but this was the nearest eatery to where we were staying. Great food and plenty of it, we had small portion and it was enough for us. reasonably priced, good deserts. Take dogs, even in the restaurant!
