The Old Kiln Cafe in Argyll & Bute

The cafe is comfortable and the food is surprisingly good. The Cullen Skink soup is delicious. The sandwiches are also very good. The staff is attentive.

Beautiful cafe .. menu was mouth watering ..surroundings cosy and welcoming. Staff very friendly. We couldn’t resist the chowder and the corn fritters ! Stunning! Good value for money. Would highly recommend this cafe for lunch.

We had a great lunch and tasting here. We really enjoyed the wonderful mussels. This was one of our favourite places to eat.

Although not quite as awesome in the Ardstream as the Café, which should be fully open again soon, the food quality was nevertheless great. Terrific BBQ burgers and a great environment in the courtyard.

The new bistro is a great addition. Much more convenient to be able to book ahead. Service was great - friendly and welcoming and efficient. The food was AMAZING! The deconstructed fish pie was so good I could have eaten it twice! My husband loved the plaice and apple crumble. The menu is smaller but very creative in terms of the flavours and unusual combinations. Old favourite of Cullen skink still there so panic not. Wine list could do with extending. Lovely visitors centre, friendly staff and covid safe. There is a van outside offering refreshments however when we went it was bucketing down with rain so grabbed a coffee and sat in the car, coffee was lovely.

Half of our party had booked an Ardbeg tour and tasting, and we agreed to meet them beforehand at the Old Kiln Cafe. I've been to Islay a number of times, and I try to plan lunch here. The soup warms the soul and satisfies the taste buds. It's a small place but of high quality. Ardbeg is my favorite whisky, and this is a great little place.

Great food, ample choice on the menu and a marvelous setting in the old kiln, that mesmerising view when looking up the original pagoda chimney is unique. That combined with great service and benchmark whisky make this a go to place!

There is no doubt, the food there is excellent and delicious! Still they could do more of the place, make it a bit more cosy, seperate it from the busy shop.

What more do I need to say. Variable service- good from some staff, terrible from others. The food was good and at a good price. And whisky for afters was amazing and they didn't charge us for that because it was Feis week.

Dass es hier leckere Speisen zu (früher) guten Preisen gibt, hat sich herumgesprochen: Das Café ist immer richtig gut besucht. Um ehrlich zu sein fand ich Essen, Preise und Service vor einigen Jahren noch besser, aber für ein Mittagessen ist es hier immer noch gut genug.

Of all the Islay distilleries I do not particularly like Ardbeg, but the tour is interesting and their cafe provides the best good, fresh and satisfying food and worth the visit at lunchtime.

Llegamos después de caminar desde el puerto de Ellen y visitar otros dos destilerías en el camino. Este es el único que cuentan con una cafetería. Es bastante agradable. Dejando el restaurante a alguien para ir de excursión recomiendo la sopa del día. La sopa de champiñones y estaba delicioso! ! ! Realmente me calentado después de la caminata de viento. Como el grupo turístico ha salido teníamos el café para nosotros. La decoración es agradable y se inclina hacia una sensibilidad nórdica y el camarero amable y servicial. Teníamos nuestro dram de whisky gratis! Recomiendo tener algo aquí antes o después de la excursión. Paseaban los terrenos de Ardbeg, donde todo el mundo es bastante frío, y sacamos unas bonitas fotos.

We had just missed the Ardbeg tour, so instead we had lunch at the cafe and browsed the store. My brie panini was delicious! And our waiter gave us our whisky for free ;) Overall a lovely experience.

Excellent meal. Do a tour or tasting at Ardbeg too. Or just get a dram with your meal. Options are diverse and dynamically arranged. We were so pleased.
