Went for lunch with my son , such a lovely welcoming and warm atmosphere and beautifully decorated , staff were super friendly and very helpful, A great menu , my son is a very picky eater we went for double burgers . Which were huge !! Looked amazing and tasted even better . Really well priced , sticky toffee sundae and sticky toffee pudding so yummy!! Highly recommend and i already have a table booked for next week .

Seeing that The Old House had taken over the Red Lion in Mortimer, local to us, we visited Newnham Green to see what we can expect when it opens. Was very impressed. The food was excellent and such a lovely pub/restaurant. Interesting menu with unusual plates (I had the local trout Gravalax starter) the mains were excellent too. Great little find.

This pub is a real gem situated tucked away at the far end of Newnham Green near Hook. We booked a table for 4 and received a very warm initial welcome and truly excellent service throughout our 3 course meal. The food was unremittingly excellent and our party is not easily pleased! They have some creative choices such as batter-free fish and saute potatoes and a sharing plate for desserts if you just want a small amount of sweetness.

This is by far the best pub in the area. Charming village pub with excellent choice of home cooked food, Sunday roasts are amazing. Donna and her team can't do enough for you. Extremely dog friendly.

We pre-booked a table for 9 a couple of months in advance for Christmas eve. We specified that we would have 2 small dogs and were told they were dog friendly. Upon arrival the Manager was so so rude. She told us the dogs were not welcome for a large table of 9. We tried to explain that we asked for dog friendly upon booking but she did not care. The waitress was absolutely lovely and so apologetic. She seemed most embarrassed by the Manager and also very fed up of her attitude. Despite the table being at the back and out of all other customers way we had to drive the dogs home. A huge inconvenience. The room was SO HOT and the service was very slow. The food is over priced. Won't be going there again which is a huge shame as its a lovely little country pub. If the Manager could change, things would no doubt improve. I tried to give the benefit of the doubt that perhaps it was a one off bad day but I've seen other very similar experiences via reviews on here. Besides no excuse to be so vile to customers esp as it wasn't even our error. I saw they were advertising they are opening a sister pub in Mortimer. I won't be going there either now.

We decided to have an early evening dinner with friends. On arrival we were made very welcome. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful The pub it’s self is cosy and spotless. The special board was very tempting but we all decided to order from the main menu and none of us was disappointed, the quality of food was superb and great value for money. We all agreed we would return in the New Year and try their Sunday lunch menu. Thanks to all the staff for making our visit memorable

Superb Steak, Ale and Mushroom pie followed by Apple and Blackberry Crumble (with custard). Half cheese board would have been helped by butter and some pickle, but a very nice meal with a cosy ambience. Grateful that they managed to get us a table, as we hadn't booked, and hopefully didn't delay subsequent patrons. A very nice dining experience - with friendly staff/owner.

Went for lunch. Fantastic food atmosphere and service. Food was different - by that I mean not the usual run of the mill items on a pub lunch menu. Also for dessert they do a petite size which is wonderful if you are really too full to eat dessert but still fancy something sweet. Coffee afterwards was good too.

Lovely lunch with friends, none of whom had eaten here before. All meals were enjoyable, portions were satisfying and food very well presented. Service was good and with a smile :) This is one of our favourite places to eat and we have never been disappointed. We will be back!

We took some friends for dinner and they were very impressed! Myself & 9 friends, booked for a 1pm Sunday lunch. When we arrived, we were told that we had made a mistake & weren't booked until 2pm. This wasn't possible, as we always book for 1pm on our monthly Sunday lunch gatherings, but with no proof, we left it at that & chose to wait outside. When we went to order drinks, we found the bar area to be extremely small, with most of it shut off by a screen. We got told in an abrupt manner, by the manager to 'move out of the way as they need to bring plates through' so we asked where we are meant to stand to order drinks, as this was the only space & we received no answer. We went back outside, the manager was rude again when we asked if we could order & sit outside instead, telling us that we would have to wait as she had other guests, then she moved a large umberella alongside the table, resulting in it snappy in 2 & hitting my friend on the head. The manager was then more concerned for her umbrella than my friends head being hit. We eventually ordered, some of it was cold & had to be sent back, some of it arrived with half missing & all food was just shoved onto the table with no customer service at all. My friend went home with a large headache & felt dizzy, so her daughter rang the following day to ask if it had been reported in the accident book, to be told that its only for staff & not guests, & when asked why they hadn't asked after her Mums wellfare or even taken her meal off the bill, she was told that the incident had been alot for the manager to deal with. Myself & my friends have been to many restaurants for sunday dinner & always had wonderful service, so this was a dreadful experience all round. No after care for assaulting a guest with an umbrella & not one apology. We will not be returning sadly, as it was a beautiful pub & lovely setting.

My husband and I had lunch at this excellent restaurant following recommendation from friends. We were certainly not disappointed. The battered King prawns were perfect and the calves liver and bacon superb. The staff were welcoming and hospitable. We have no hesitation in recommending this excellent restaurant.

Delicious food, superb gin selection, excellent and friendly service - what more can I say? Oh, it was great value too! We will be back.

If you want fantastic food and good sized portions this is the place to go! Chris & Donna (owners) are so lovely and welcoming as well as the fantastic staff who couldn’t be more helpful. We had a “mixed Sunday roast” which was huge and the beef and pork were cooked perfectly. As well as the fish cakes which I couldn’t recommend more! The crumble and lemon drizzle were heaven! As well as the lovely garden to sit and enjoy drinks in. You have to come and check this place out!

Fabulous as always. The staff are lovely and friendly. Good choice of local real ales. The menu and the specials board is comprehensive and varied, which makes it hard to decide, great desserts too. The smoked duck starter is a must. The chicken liver pate and the halloumi starters went down well. The mains were fabulous, calves liver, lamb murger, mackeral and smoked haddock fishcake, followed by delcious puddings, which you can have in small or normal size which is handy. The potion sizes are generous, so make sure you are hungry. Will be back again.

Had the mixed meat Sunday lunch. My wife had the same. Both meals were great, so was the service. I would definitely recommend coming here. Looked at a few of the negative reviews and they seem to be based on the pub not offering the services the client was looking for. Well that’s the pub owner prerogative what they will and won’t cater for, and no reason to provide a bad review when they haven’t even tried the service the pub does offer. I love this place. The food is great and there are many gluten free options which is important for me. Usually I have a choice of ice cream or nothing for dessert but here I can have almost everything. The surroundings inside and out are lovely too and the staff are friendly. Perfect!

We have lived locally for years but never discovered this lovely intimate, family run restaurant. The menu was varied and our choices arrived beautifully cooked with generous portions. The service was spot on, friendly and efficient. The ambience was just right and I would not hesitate to recommend this venue .

We were staying at Tlyney hall and visited here for Sunday lunch. It was the tastiest roast we have ever eaten in a pub. The portion sizes were very generous and lots of different vegetables. It is all table service and plenty of hand sanitisers. Highly recommend .
