The Old Ford Inn in Powys

A lovely meal with a beautiful view. Don’t think you could get much better views anywhere else while having your food. We went for Sunday lunch last minute and it was a lovely hour or so out in the sun. Very generous portions, gravy was lovely, chicken so soft and juicy you didn’t even have to cut it. The veg was cooked to perfection, especially the new potatoes! Lovely and fluffy inside but a nice crispy skin. The double garlic mushrooms were the best ive had! So tasty, they didn’t last long. This was the first pub meal I’ve had for months and i Felt very safe here. The waitresses all masked up and kept their distance. Very friendly too. Definitely recommend it.

The Old Ford is well known to me having worked there during school holidays albeit many moons ago! We had taken a holiday cottage locally and decided to have a family supper at The Old Ford on one of our available evenings. The location of this pub is such that you get superb views of the Brecon Beacons and it has to be worth a visit just to sit in the gardens with a drink! Meanwhile we elected to have supper. If you are hungry this is the place to go..............the servings were ample in the extreme; not very good for the waistline. Most of us had fish and chips which were fine but I felt they were a bit over generous with the chips ! The puddings were nothing special but OK. In short this was average to good pub grub. If I have a complaint it was the bill; it came on a scruffy piece of paper with a number on it...........why was there not a itemised bill on a till-roll which is generally what one expects in a restaurant.

My friend and I went today for a lovely home cooked meal. Restaurant all marked out for way in, way out, 2metres apart, glass screens hung between tables turning them into booths. Pretty with their Christmas decorations up. We both had gammon and chips, peas, mushrooms, tomato, onion rings and either egg or pineapple or both - delicious. Then lovely Christmas pudding and yummy brandy sauce. It was lovely to see and chat with Maria, Dave, Abbey and girls. Masks to be worn entering and leaving, and when you move about indoors. Name and contact details taken. Everything cleaned before next sitting, drinks brought on a tray for you to take, rather than being handed to you, all done with table service and all girls wearing masks. Everything done professionally and properly to the letter, yet they're the ones being penalised. Can't wait to go back. Would definitely recommend - 10 out of 10

Amazing roast dinners & had so many nice evening meals here too. Their takeaway roasts have been so nice during lockdown, the staff are great...so friendly and helpful. Everything is always 10/10. Would deffinitely recommend!

Comfortable rooms. Great food. Reasonable prices. The staff are helpful and friendly. The pub has a great atmosphere. They do take away food too but at the moment their Facebook page has been hacked so ring them if you want a takeaway.

We visited first an evening meal while on a short break near Brecon. Can highly recommend. Good menu and good service. All covid precautions in place - felt very safe.

Booked a table for 4 for an evening meal here August 27th 2020. A friendly & welcoming pub, excellent anti-covid precautions with all staff wearing masks and good sanitisation of facilities including the toilets. Food was delicious and served in large portions - nobody went home hungry! I was driving so couldn’t try the beers but looked a good selection. Will be back when in the area.

We were a bit nervous about eating out (inside) for the first time since lockdown but The Old Ford Inn proved an excellent safe choice. With staggered dining times, limited tables spaced out, hand sanitiser, staff wearing face masks and a one way system (in one door, out another) it felt safe. The staff were friendly and the meals delicious and plentiful.

During a short break in Brecon (five minutes away) we had dinner at The Old Ford as it was one of the few places open, however it proved a very good choice. The pub set in a rural location on the A40, we sat in their outdoor area which has great views across to the Beacons. The food was home cooked, good value, massive portions and well prepared, served by the friendly staff. Covid restrictions or not, I would not hesitate returning there for a traditional pub dinner. Booking recommended which we did via their FB site receiving a quick confirmation.

Visited in July with Family & Friends for the first time. It was difficult for the staff as everyone had to be served outside. It did take longer than I would have liked but given the circumstances they did a great job. The Roast Beef was fantastic, the views from the pub bench simply stunning, all at a very reasonable price, if I am in the area again I will return. I recommend the Mint Chocolate Aero Cheesecake!

Went here yesterday to sit and eat outside due to lockdown restrictions. I've had many many Sunday lunches out, including here in the past, but have to this was soooooo yummy. Everything was spot on...tender meat, gorgeous, roasties, tasty veg and the gravy was rich and thick and tasted heavenly. Cannot describe just how spot on it was and how much I enjoyed it. My starter of garlic mushrooms was also stunning. The sauce was to do die for! Drinks were very resonably priced too, including our gorgeous bottle of Sauvignon Blanc. Spoke to the chef at the time to say thank you and compliments to him once again. Also to the lovely waitresses who couldn't do enough for us and worked really hard. Gorgeous lunch, lovely staff, stunning views. Will definitely be back very soon Xxx

So we have been in Llanhamlach since the start of lockdown and have just had a take away roast dinner of excellent quality and portion size that certainly satisfied both our appetites. We will certainly be making this a regular haunt both during and after lockdown. What an absolute find!

We came here for a mid week meal while staying on a caravan site nearby, we have been to this pub many times over the last 25 years and we are never disappointed, the food is fantastic and the staff and service is faultless. Highly recommended.

Sunday lunch, top notch. We called in by chance, we were lucky to have a table allocated in the restaurant. Excellent service, excellent food. My wife had beef, me the lamb. We conclude probably the best roast dinner in many’s year.How do they give you so much quality for such a very reasonable price.Will certainly book a table next time as being denied would break my heart

Went with friends for a mid week meal, good varied menu and nice cozy atmosphere. The food was lovely and well presented. We ordered fish and chips and 3 different curries which arrived in a short while, the food was hot and there was enough of it not to leave you hungry. The madras could have had a bit more of a kick to it if I was to be picky. The sweet menu was very nice with a couple of different cheesecakes and lovely ice cream. Will definitely be returning

Having regularly travelled through Llanhamlach about 10 years ago, I can always remember the gorgeous smell of roast dinners as I drove past. Finally, after all this time I booked in advance to secure a table for 2 for roast dinner, and it did not disappoint!. Both myself and my mother had the vegetarian option (nut and mushroom roast) which was lovely, with perfect roast potatoes and a lovely gravy. The food was top class and we left absolutely stuffed - with no room for dessert! The restaurant was full so would suggest booking. Polite service and reasonable prices. Thankyou.

I visited The Old Ford for a family meal. The menu was quite extensive and caters for vegetarians and vegans as well as meat eaters. The staff were very pleasant and the service prompt. I was more than happy with my meal and would not hesitate to eat here again or to highly recommend it. This pub/restaurant is extremely popular and I suggest that you phone in advance to book a table, as we did.

We have eaten here about 50 times and never had a bad meal. Its good quality no fuss food served by staff who are very attentive and polite. The new decor has made it a lot brighter and I would recommend you try it when in brecon

An excellent meal - good quality food, reasonably priced and excellent service. My prior visit a few years ago was very disappointing and I did leave a negative review but since then the place is under new management and vastly improved. I can now highly recommend it.

We stayed overnight to attend a wedding located nearby. All staff were friendly and helpful and we were made to feel very welcome. The room was a comfortable size and clean. The decor/furniture was slightly dated but spotlessly clean and perfectly useable. The breakfast in the morning was good, basic fry up option with plenty of fruit/cereal/toast to accompany it.

We stayed at The Old Ford for the Bank Holiday in August. Excellent food, service. David & Maria were very helpful and squeezed us for Sunday Lunch after coming back from the Four Falls - Ystadfelle - This is well situated just 3 miles away from Beacin Town. Too short, definitely we will be back

They're roasts are to die for. We've tried to copy them every Sunday it was that fantastic. Its not just the food, you have anamazing atmosphere and the veiw!!!

Stopped in for a quick drink on a very sunny and warm afternoon. Staff were friendly and helpful. The limited beer range was more than made up for by the stunning view across the Brecon Beacons.

We went for dinner here two nights in a row and food was fabulous, although portions are probably a bit too big!! The curry was great as was the pie special and great views of pen y fan to boot!

We have been to the Old Ford Inn in Brecon for many years now and in my opinion they serve the best meals in the Brecon area. There is always a good variety of options on the menu and the portion sizes are always good. The service is excellent and there are gluten free options available. If you are planning to visit it is advisable to book in advance because it is very popular. Especially if you are planning for Sunday lunch. We will definitely keep returning to the Old Ford in Brecon whenever we are in the area.

Because of commitments we don't get here as much but always enjoy our visits . Good food, cracking pint and very friendly staff team . Made a mistake in having a big meal at lunchtime so unfortunately couldn't fit in a dessert which was a shame

We had a meal here on Sunday night. I had the Sunday Roast and my wife had the 'nut roast'. What a meal! The meat was tender and there was a great selection of freshly cooked veg! The restaurant was busy but that did not impair on the relaxed and friendly atmosphere. Staff were pleasant and helpful too. Shall definitely frequent this pub again.... in the not too distant future! Great menu!

We were recommended to eat here by locals and even though it was fully booked, the owner said he would squeeze us in. Wow we were not disappointed at all.

Had dinner here for my birthday. Staff and locals very friendly. It looked like we got lucky for getting a table despite not having made a reservation (tip: make a reservation). There was plenty to chose from on the menu. I had the sweet and sour chicken strips for starter and the barbecue chickenmelt (with new potatoes in stead of chips) for dinner. Seeing that it was my birthday there was room for a desert: Belgian waffle with ice cream and white chocolate and raspberry...yum, yum, yum.

big menu choices there for everyone. soup of the day was tomato soup, had battered cod with potatos. nice cool lager with that and a delicious chocbrowny with creamsause . recommended! really lovely establishment, nice bar and friendly staff. private parking. tip: book a table in advance. eat inside our outside.

Having passed by The Old Ford Inn many times, we decided to stop for lunch and we were really glad that we did. It is a picturesque old building with lovely views of the mountains. The food was excellent. We both had the roast of the day and the beef was really tender. There were four different vegetables all cooked beautifully, as well as roast and new potatoes and a homemade yorkshire pudding. It was one of the nicest meals that we have eaten out in a long time. There was an extensive menu and meals for the over 60s costing £8.00. The portions were very generous. We would highly recommend and are looking forward to returning, hopefully to sample the range of curries!

We decided to visit the Old Ford Inn for lunch after discovering it on a TripAdvisor search whilst en-route home from a holiday in Cornwall.

Visited here whilst on holiday with friends, we had a lovely meal, lots of choice on the menu, food was served lovely & hot & was delicious, there were 8 of us & we all really enjoyed our meals. The portions were so large we couldn’t manage a pudding sadly! The staff were friendly & very efficient. Only wish I lived nearer so could visit regularly. Thoroughly recommended!

Had a lovely meal here for Father’s Day, with plenty of choice on the starters & deserts. Thoroughly enjoyed by all. We were a big group so hard to fit us all in the conservatory area but they did their best to accommodate us. Highly recommend The Old Ford.

From having a drink outside to Sunday lunch inside it was a wonderful afternoon. We were a group of 18 and they kindly let us have a room to ourselves which was most appreciated. Everybody enjoyed their meals but special mention must go to the Lamb which was simply divine. The service from the Bar to the restaurant was warm, helpful and prompt. Whether looking for a large grouping or just a meal for two this Pub is worth considering , the views are stunning also. We will be back !!

Great food very tasty with superb service to match. I had the beef madras and my boyfriend had homemade pork and Apple pie and we both were very impressed. Desserts were also very good!

Its been a few months since my last visit and it never disappoints. You will find it hard to find a better Sunday Lunch anywhere. Gorgeous home cooked taste and plenty of it. I would advise booking ahead but it was a beautiful day and people were stopping and eating in the beer garden.

The Old Ford is an amazing place to eat and drink. Super friendly staff, food is excellent with plenty of variety including gluten-free options and a there is a really good choice of real ale. if you eat outside the views are breathtaking! Sunday lunch is a must....but book ahead as it is so popular amongst the locals as well as visitors to the area!

A pleasant pub in a very idyllic part of Wales. However I can’t give full five stars because I was disappointed with the quality of the beef on the Sunday roast. I found the meat very veiny and chewy and not for the first time so it’s not a one-off. The landlord must review with his supplier. Quality must not be compromised on. However to say the overall experience is less than very good would be a lie.

We stopped here for a meal on a journey home from West Wales. The staff were great. The food was tasty and properly home made. The service was excellent. The views were lovely. I was ideal and we could not have asked for more. We travel this route regularly and the pub always looks inviting. We will be sure to stop here again - we just wish we had done so before!

We were looking for a hearty meal after a long hike and this place did the job. The food was amazing - roast dinners for us both followed by a dessert we didn’t need but were pleased we ordered! The staff were excellent. Attentive and efficient as well as all very friendly , and the ambiance was great.

I rarely give a 5 star rating, but this establishment deserves it. The location is breath-taking and the staff are the most welcoming and friendliest you’ll meet. Food is fresh and cooked perfectly (i suggest always getting the specials). They also have a great ale and spirit selection.

In the Brecon Beacons for a weekend away, on our first night we had a disappointing meal at a different Brecon top-rated pub. Determined that there must be good food available in the area we thought we’d give the Old Ford Inn a try, and our hunch was proved correct.

My wife and i were on a break in Brecon pass ed this place driving in on the A40.Went there second night of stay for Dinner.Lovely surroundings both in and out,good selection of food including Daily Roast.First class food and potions lovely people.Would go again if in area.

I visited relatives in Llanhamlach and we went to The Old Ford Inn for dinner on a Saturday night. I was surprised at the size of the meal - quite large. Everything was delicious and I was amazed at the variety of vegetables that I was served with my roast beef. Sorry I did not get a photo. The meat was tender and tasty - cooked to perfection. My cousins wife had salmon which I also sampled - better than some high end places in Boston, USA! The value for money was excellent. Also it was warm on a wet Saturday night and the atmosphere was great with good service and pleasant surroundings. I would definitely visit again.

We were very lucky to book a table here for Sunday lunch on our weekend away in Brecon with friends. It was so busy, we saw at least 8 people having to be turned away as they hadn't booked. The food was stunning, everything from the starter through to the dessert tasted absolutely gorgeous and there was plenty of it! The staff in particular the owners, were really lovely, friendly and helpful. Will definitely be back and can highly recommend it!!!

Took my elderly Father and Girlfriend here for Sunday Lunch. Great value for money. My Father has become a little fussy in his old age, but he ate everything on his plate without a complaint. I have been before and the food was yet again marvellous. It has a home made taste that a lot of pubs fail to maintain. Always busy, so best to book in advance. The views on a clear day are amazing too. I thoroughly recommend.

We had a light lunch here, 2 salads, one with baked ham and the other with a selection of cheeses. Both pleased well, the ham was thick-cut and tasty, the cheeses equally as pleasing. The menu is comprehensive and inviting. Staff were all very pleasant and helpful. Although this was just a lunchtime visit many of the tables were reserved, were you to come on a busy evening I would advise booking in advance.

A great find and would highly recommend. Very friendly welcome. Food was really tasty and home cooked. Very reasonably priced and the portions were of a good size. If you are in the area definitely give it a try. I had the lamb very very tasty and my wife had the pie of the day with the biggest chips for one I’ve seen. Give it a go!!!!

Eight of us had Sunday lunch for a 70th Birthday. There was a choice of lamb, beef or chicken. Generous portions and the quality was outstanding.

My Wife and I came here this evening for some drinks and food for our wedding anniversary/my birthday. We were staying nearby for 3nights in the height of winter.

Went there after seeingWales win in Cardiff. Friendly, helpful staff and excellent food. The five of us had different meals but all were enthusiastic about quality, taste and portion size. Can't fault anything.

Well feel a little let down, the staff were pleasant enough but the food left this place down. I had the pie my partner the lasagne and we both felt it had been microwaved to an inch of its life, the chips need to be cooked longer but the peas were nice.

We met at the Old Ford for a weekday lunch. The room was tastefully decorated for Xmas and added to the cosy atmosphere. The menu was varied and reasonably priced. The staff were friendly and efficient, serving our meals and drinks promptly. We enjoyed a hearty well cooked main course and a delicately flavoured dessert. Highly recommended

Located near our site meeting near Brecon we decided for the four of us to lunch here.

we passed by when out for a drive on Sunday and decided to drop in on the off chance we could get a table. apparently on Sunday there are two sittings for Sunday lunch (we didn't know) and we were between sittings. there was approx. 50 mins to next sitting. the staff were very helpful and friendy and said they could fit us in as long as we could adhere to the time constraint. that was fine for us.

Visited on a Thursday evening in October and couldn't have been more disappointed with our meals. We ordered the lamb shoulder which was completely inedible and the beef curry, which although tasting ok, was very tough. The 'slow cooked lamb shoulder glazed with balsamic vinegar' bore no resemblance to this description. It only had 2 mouthfuls of edible meat and the rest was fat, gristle and skin. It was formed into a circular shape and had a drizzle of cheap balsamic over it. It also had an odd flavour. It was the worst lamb dish I have ever had the misfortune to taste. The only upside was that the proprietor agreed to remove the meal from the bill without any issue.

We stopped in for a drink on our arrival to Brecon. It was obvious to us that we would return to sample the delicious looking food as it was only about 10 minutes away from our accommodation and the food looked and smelt delicious.

The pub came recommended by catering staff in Brecon and we were not disappointed. The Sunday lunch is served in generous portions of good quality, with a decent range of food available.

I went with my family and it was recommended to me so met my Mum and so we met her there. I arrived to be greeted by a nasty smell, I figured there must be bad Silage or a cesspit smell that hit in waves. I prayed that once inside we would not be able to smell it. At the entrance of the Inn, the hit of grease in the air was formidable. I was already very concerned.

I booked this restaurant cause we were on our way to Shrewsbury from Neath, South Wales. My hubby had roast lamb and I had roast beef. The foods was delicious, good value for your money

We had a lovely meal here, the pub is small and homely. The food was outstanding, really impressed with the presentation too. We ordered the lamb, which was mouth melting and the pork and leek sausages again beautiful, for dessert we ordered the trio of the desserts which were perfect to a great night. Will definitely recommend this place and will return.

Beef was melt in the mouth with lovely gravy, proper roast potatoes and veggies all piping hot. We will be back.

We stopped here on our way home up North, they were pretty booked up for Sunday lunch but managed to fit us in, the lamb roast was gorgeous, the lamb and roasters were served on the plate with potatoes and veg on the side, so plenty of food, just what we needed! I’d highly recommend trying here if your nearby but maybe ring ahead!

Visited for lunch on Tuesday and had a lovely meal. It was busy but we were quickly shown a table by the landlord. I ordered the roast of the day (pork) which was probably the best roast dinner I have had in any pub and my husband had the steak pie, which he said was delicious. We both had the larger meals (notbthe pensioner smaller portions) and thought we wouldn’t be able to manage a pudding but, having seen the puddings ordered by others, we were tempted by the apple pie and bread and butter pudding both served with custard. They were delicious.

Super place for a family lunch. We were there yesterday with 8 of us and really enjoyed the views and the food. Food is simple as befits an Inn in the country with excellent portions. Very tasty and a good choice from the menu.

We stayed here for two nights to attend a friends wedding at Peterstone Court. It was super convenient and we walked back after the wedding, needed a torch, but it was only 200 yards. Very reasonably priced, and the breakfast included was great, just what we needed! The landlord and lady were absolutely charming, and there was great attention to detail with the tea and coffee provided in the rooms along with individual soap and shower gel, communal hair dryer, iron and ironing board! Views across the Brecons were absolutely breathtaking. Wouldn’t hesitate to recommend staying here, great find :)

We were staying on llanigon and decided to go off the beaten track and look for an inviting pub. When we drove past this place ,it fitted the bill!

Went to this pub to have a meal with my family to celebrate my birthday. We are a family of 5 with three kids (10, 8 & 2). We could not have been more happy with this pub, welcoming staff, really good pub food and nice beer. I recommend the Steak and also the Lamb. The kids menu was also very good. I think the only thing that would have topped this pub off would have been a play area for kids.

Family visiting from Essex were well impressed with the food tonight at the Old Ford. I had the mushroom stroganoff on the special board which was really good.

We hadn't been to the Old Ford in ages until yesterday. The food was excellent, especially the Llanhamlech Chicken. Pen-y-fan looked stunning. We won't wait so long to make a return visit.

This was our first visit for over five years , but what a return! The fantastic weather helped but from arriving until departure it was a wonderful experience. We both had the beef dinner , and it was one of the best we have had in recent memory. The vegetables were plentiful , and we were able to have dessert outside gazing at the superb views. The service at the bar and in the restaurant was warm , helpful and polite. It will not be five years until we next visit.

We called with only 10 mins notice on a Saturday evening and they went out of their way to fit us in. The food is very good and the portions are huge. Service is super friendly and attentive. We were there earlier in the year and had a similar experience. Definitely worth a visit.

Left the peterstone nearby when we saw their menu and experienced their ‘5 star’ service, and found this place down the road... menu was excellent, my girlfriend had nearly double figures of choices as a vegetarian instead of the single choice where we were staying, she had a lovely veggie curry and i had the bbq rib eye... topped with the best bacon ive had... amazing location looking towards pen y fan, all the staff smiley and accommodating despite it being packed, and the manager mentioned his rooms are only approx £80 rather than the £180 we paid, with a better view! Doh!

My partner and I just had Sunday lunch at the Old Ford. We live in Abergavenny and like to have a treat out from time to time. The pub was busy but we were served quickly with drinks, told which was our table and didn't wait very long for our order to be taken. We both ordered lamb. This duly arrived with stuffing, gravy and two large roast potatoes. Our vegetables quickly followed. A very good selection plus boiled potatoes. The portions are not skimped in any way. There was enough food to feed four people with ease. We've had midweek and Sunday lunches on previous occasions which are always good but this one was outstanding. We'll definitely return.

This was not the first and it won't be the last visit to this lovely pub. Run by friendly staff and their Sunday lunch is brilliant. Generous portions and fairly priced.

We went to this pub on 2 occasions. The first occasion we were sat inside and I had the pate and beef Sunday dinner. The dinner was excellent, with lovely a homemade Yorkshire pudding. The pate was nice, but I felt there wasn't enough bread. The second time we sat outside with an absolutely gorgeous view. I had the surf and turf, which was as described on the menu, but didn't blow me away. My friend had the lasagne, which was again, nice but nothing special. I'd definitely go back for a Sunday dinner though!

We booked this place but had to re arrange. When I spoke to a member of staff I asked them would it be possible to do a plain chicken breast with a jacket potato and veg as one of us is dairy and gluten intolerant and the chicken they have on their menu is a breast stuffed with cheese etc.I was told over the phone yes that's no problem I've wrote that in the book to which I thought great. We arrived at 5.30pm on the Thursday the 5th July, we were un aware that they didn't open til 6 as we booked table 6pm but thought the may have doors open. Staff kept arriving , and there was a man walking round inside , then he put an apron on they he had a cigarette, all aware we were just sat outide waiting. After 6 we we let in, we were seated in the conservatory bit, wow! No where near as nice as the other side! So we looked at the menu, obviously one of us knew what they were having but myself and hubby picked ours. I went up to the bar and asked if I could order here. I ordered the scampi, a vegetable pudding and told them about the chicken and a side of garlic bread. She looked at me and said oh right ok. Hmmmmm! I ordered drinks which were odd. The glasses were scratched, and they had run out of diet coke bottles even though they had literally just opened! I took the drinks back to our table and within 4 mins a waitress came back to me at the table and said do you want bacon over the chicken, no I said I want it plain. I told her I had phoned up already and told you about this and I was told no problem again she just looked at me and said it's ok we will sort it. Sort it??? Our food arrived and what was supposed to be a plain chicken breast looked like 3 slices of chicken like packet chicken but it was cooked. My huby stared eating the vegetable pudding and he spat out the veg straight away it was solid. Funny texture. My scampi was ok but nothing tasted of anything. No flavour! The garlic bread was as floppy as a wet leaf. It literally looked like it had been dropped on the floor!. A waitress did a courtesy check 3/4 of the way through what we could eat. We told her about the pudding and the garlic bread, she offered another veg pud to which we said no . And more.garlic bread but again we said no it was horrible! My mum said maybe you van take something off the bill. She went back to the kitchen to talk to the chef, we had had enough. Our meal was spoilt and all 3 of us were very dissapointed. We have previously eaten here and had no problems but something has changed and the food wasn't cooked properly, tasteless and they tried to fob us off with crap slices of chicken instead of a full breast like the menu states!!!! These people should be ashamed. They took off pudding and garlic bread and if they didn't I wasn't going to pay for it anyway! The place I'd dusty full of flies, and grubby looking. Have you seen the toilets???? Will not return!! Way way way over priced for tasteless hard un cooked food!
