I have had lunch here many times over the last 3 years since moving to Arbroath and I have always had a lovely meal. I am coeliac which they cater for with a gluten free menu. Large portions of tasty grub. I enjoy there gluten free haddock and chips. Staff are welcoming and friendly. Atmosphere is cosy and calm. Dog friendly - staff provided my pup with water and offer treats very visit. Good value for money in my option.

I had a smokie crepe which was nice but tasted very like the fish pie I make myself. It was served with frozen vegetables which is a massive negative for me. At a cost of £17.95 I don’t expect frozen veg. I always eat fresh veg at home so find this quite shocking. My friend’s veggie dish that was a lot cheaper was actually delicious as was my other friend’s cullen skink. Our desserts were lovely. It’s clear that there is a good chef but they shouldn’t cut corners.

Overall my stay was pretty good, just with the odd slight niggle. Would book here again though tbh when next in the lovely area of Arbroath, which is a must visit for anyone. Hotel pro's - Really nice location at the end of the town centre, so very close to shops and restaurants and local theatre etc. Is right on the waterfront for lovely views and walks and photos. It's a quiet area & beds are pretty comfortable so got a decent night's sleep. Bathroom facilities were ok as well. Whole room was clean and tidy and hygienic etc. Cons - check in could be earlier than the 4pm time, definitely change it to 3pm which is the norm for the vast majority of places - that would make a difference for so many customers, especially when I'd paid the best part of £100 a night. Also, as I entered the upstairs corridor to head to the room, there was a lingering smell of something which wasn't the most pleasant, it didn't smell in the room though thankfully. As I said though only a slight niggle, but I'd stay again next time I'm in the area.

Premises are spotless, parking might be a problem we were lucky and managed a free place nearby but there are paid parking nearby. Very good menu plenty to chose from, Arbroath is a busy fishing port so expect all the seafood is top quality but you will find something to suit your taste. Cold day so just wanted a quality fish and chips, not disappointed fish very fresh, must have a live tank out the back, perfectly cooked, crisp batter. Bowl of warming soup to start with it too was full of flavour. Waitress very helpful asked about portion size and offered half portion, we are retired and cannot eat hugh portions any more, prefer quality over quantity. Half portion soup for us both more than enough, served with warm roll and butter. I had large haddock wife had half portion, just perfect although I could not eat all the excellent chips, sorry chef! Tartar sauce a bit too creamy for us needed more capers but OK. We had Australian Chardonnay which was very good, if other wines are this good you will get something to suit.

Our rooms were very clean and (in August 2021) had been recently re-decorated.The breakfasts and the one evening meal we had were surely portion sizes for giants!Of course any meal with smokies as an ingredient in Arbroath, whether dinner or breakfast, would always be superb. But additionally the fish and chips was excellent in both the conventional and gluten-free varieties. Two of our group are coeliac and they found it such a treat to get properly fried GF batter on their fish, so thankyou for that.A very good-for-money stay and we would return if this were to be on our route again. My wife and I brought our 85 year old mother here as a wee treat as she likes to sit and look out to the sea we were sat with direct views. The staff were delightful and very accommodating towards her needs. Look forward to availing of its hospitality again. BrawAye

My wife and I were able to take her 85 year mother here for lunch as she likes to be able to look out to the sea which reminds her of her younger years bringing up her own children when a trip to the sea was viewed upon as a holiday. We were served by the delightful young lady Aimie and never once felt pressurised to move from our table overlooking danger point in Arbroath. By far the best served food in Arbroath of which we hope to avail of again in the near future. BrawAye

First up be assured Covid precautions are done well at the Old Brewhouse. We felt safe and well looked after during our visit. Our lunch was superb. A bowl of cullen skink to share for starters was filling and delicious. Then followed by more beautiful fish in the form of Arbroath Smokies, well cooked and great flavour. Parking was free and a very short walk away by the harbour.

It was a lucky break for my wife and I to have to amend our trip to Stonehaven due to Covid, and to rearrange to stay one night at the Old Brewhouse; what a find. We did opt for the most expensive room 'Danger Point', which we were delighted with for the views, comfort and cleanliness. A bonus was also the breakfast of Arbroath Smokies delivered to our room...outstanding, particularly as the Smokies were delivered from the Arbroath Fisheries Smokehouse next door.....yes! next door. The staff were also warm and welcoming and everything appeared Covid-safe. Cracking place Grommet! As Wallace would say.

Lovely welcome with our dog and had the most amazing Cullen skink.Loads of nice smoked fish and prawns and so tasty. I had the soup and sandwich deal and other half had clooty dumpling and custard which was also fab. Service with a smile and felt very comfortable visiting with my dog. Bowl of water brought for the dog as soon as we sat down.Great value for the excellent food we had

Spent 2 nights short break. Place absolutely spotless, Covid safeguards more than in place. Beautiful room but very creaky bed and floor boards (hence title) . Loved having breakfast delivered to room each morning. Ate in both nights, food excellent . Staff absolutely brilliant , so friendly. Hope to return . We were so lucky with weather too.
