We stayed at the Oak tree inn , yesterday the 5th of November, 3 couples, and it was amazing, better than any 5 star hotels in Scotland, exceptionally friendly and welcoming staff they couldn't do enough for us , also entertained with a fabulous singer in the bar / restaurant, a great bonus.. It's a lovely atmosphere in the quirky bar with a roaring fireplace , food was exceptional and a good quality breakfast buffet style in the morning , it was so good we booked again to come in December...Thanks for a great stay ..Mr and Mrs Burns

Booked with friends , for a night away. On arrival: excellent young woman on reception, bright, cheery and helpful. Had a couple of late afternoon drinks in the bar - house lager (Connic) is great, and just flowed into dinner: pub food, but good pub food, reasonably priced. Adam, the waiter, is just great (hey you, the owner! If you're reading this, give Adam a bonus and help him develop his career, he deserves it and you will be the beneficiary). Despite it being November the next morning was glorious, ideal for a 'rocky' walk along the lochside (and a punishing uphill slog to get back 'a different way'). Star feature: loch lomond Star buy: the house lager Star people: Adam, and the receptionist. Try it, we loved it.

We've been going here for years, and it's always been consistently good. The staff are friendly and welcoming, and the food is delicious! There's a fantastic coffee and ice cream shop next door too. As it's a bit out of the way, it can be combined with a nice drive and a stroll down to the waterfront, or a further walk along the banks of Loch Lomond. Beautiful scenery!

Stayed three nights as we enjoyed Loch Lomond and Stirling. Stayed in James cabin. It was comfortable and well maintained. Easy walk to main hotel for breakfast . The staff was helpful, friendly, and informative. Breakfast was generous and varied with the staff happy to get what you need or cater to food allergies. Had lunch and two dinners while there. The Cullen Skink was tasty and I was convinced to try haggis and was delighted with it. I would say the menu is a bit challenging if you are attempting to limit carbs or avoid fried food. Went out the last night to find fish fillers and fresh vegetables.

We have stayed before and had to come back to try the food again. The weather wasn’t on our side, but we braved a walk by the Loch. Thankfully when we got to The Oak Tree the fire was on - we loved the cosy setting and felt right at home. The staff all work so hard and were all so nice. I couldn’t resist the Cullen skink. My partner got the steak pie and absolutely loved it. One of our fave places and we’ll be back for sure

Had a couple of lunches during our week in Balmaha. Then booked dinner. We booked saying we have a small dog. On arrival, I was asked to use the rear door while my family went via the front. When we had lunches,, we were in the bar, which I thought was the restaurant. Instead for dinner we were put in what they call a conservatory. Essentially a horrible and basic hut on the back, which was terrible. The management here need to realise that you offer very basic PUB food, not restaurant food. Do the maths for 2023 on how many families have pets and realise that making customers feel like 2nd class citizens is not on or appreciated. During the 2 lunches we had, you had customers with ruck sacks and camping gear, covered in mud as one would quite rightly expect. Customers wet from the rain with muddy boots, again as one would quite rightfully expect. Yet you see a family with a clean dog as some sort of filth! Yes, that’s how it feels. Totally unwelcoming! We were expecting to spend a full evening, but cut it very short and left and will most certainly not return. You’re a pub with basic pub food on the side of a Loch in the countryside. If you were a fine dining restaurant, I may get it, but you’re not. Fish & chips, burgers and pizza are your main offering. You have hard floors, so where is the problem? I live in the Peak District where pubs and restaurants would not survive without being open to all. You say your dog friendly and your not, so you need to make that clear so as not to disappoint or completely embarrass your customers. David Derbyshire

Beautiful place - the atmosphere here was lovely, felt nicely welcoming. The gentleman that greeted us was great and took us to our table. Eventually after waiting a good 10/15 our waitress came and took our drinks order; as we’d been waiting so long we had also chosen our meal. Another long wait and we got our drinks. My cappuccino was cold but didn’t see the waitress again till another chap brought our meals over. I’d given up trying to tell them about my coffee. No one came during our meal to see if we wanted more drinks … we did. The restaurant was not that busy so I don’t know why people weren’t being served. Another man got fed up of waiting and went to the bar himself. The food was delicious. My husband really enjoyed his haggis and my pizza was lovely. The waitress came to clear the plates and I asked for a drink. Without waiting to hear or even ask if my husband wanted one she walked away: we called her back and ordered a pint for him. My drink came; no sign of his. Gave up in the end. Asked for our bill, paid and left. Shame our evening was clouded by a waitress who wasn’t up to the job; she was very friendly - just didn’t have a clue how to do her job.

Lovely aspect, inviting frontage, but during an indian summer heatwave it was uncomfortably warm inside so we decided to eat outdoors at a garden table arrangement, despite food being delivered to an adjascent table, we had to chase down a menu after giving up ordering on the online system. The food was disappointing to say the least we had two fish & chips and a burger. The fish was greasy and so thin the chef must have lost his finger tips when slicing one fish into six portions That said the result still managed to resembe a frozen beer battered factory produced 4 for £2 effort from betterbuys. As for the alien concoction purporting to be chips, dipped in yellow dye presumably to trick the eye into believing they had seen the inside of a deep fat fryer. But sadly that was not the case, not so much chipped potatoes but a reconstituted effort made from what appeared to be rehydrated dried potato formed under high pressure into an oblong shape which I believe in the colloquial are know as "Oven Chips" the vast majority of which ended up in landfill. Clearly the location on the West Highland Way allows this sort of exploitation where travellers have either no other option but to endure, or perhaps it's because many of them are never likely to pass this way again. A dissapointing end to an otherwise perfect day, how dare they spoil it for us.

Stayed for one night whilst walking the west highland way. Our check in experience was not friendly, staff seemed stressed and did not engage, hardly looked up from the screen. Found ordering a couple of beers a long process as this needed to be done online. There was no drying room for walking boots etc. Room was very noisy from the bar downstairs and was uncomfortably hot, unable to open window due to midgies (yes a fan was provided but that merely blew around the hot air!) One pack of shortbread between 2 people !! We had dinner in the restaurant, the food was lovely, but again staff running around and obviously very stressed, not good customer service. Breakfast in the morning was good and staff friendlier than the previous day. Check out was as impersonal as check in.

We are probably old fashioned but we didn’t like having to order from our phones, then we’re told it was a 20 minute wait - for two pints of lager! I went inside to cancel our order and get a refund (which was done quickly), and was told that because the place was so busy, food can take 29 minutes, but two pints can be done ‘in no time at all’. Well, we didn’t know that! What’s wrong with just ordering at the bar like everywhere else??

We were very fortunate to find this place for our overnight stay by the shores of Loch Lomond. The Oak Tree is situated right in the centre of the village, and seems to basically be the centre point for the town. It was busy and vibrant but we were able to get straight to the reception desk without any trouble. Our accomodation was not the Inn itself but on the upstairs floor of one of the nearby villas, two large, bright and airy rooms withwith full kitchen and bathroom facilities, balconies and a view out over the loch . The staff at the inn were friendly and helpful and made sure we were well looked after on a busy evening. The dining was excellent and our food came quickly despite there being quite a good crowd and the barman was quick to offer another choice when the stout I asked for wasn't available. We were made to feel extremely comfortable and at ease for the entire stay and while The Oak Tree was one of the most expensive places we stayed at during our time in the UK, it was quite worth it for the great rooms and elevated service.

We ended up staying after dinner and had some drinks, it was a really relaxed atmosphere and we had a great evening - the restaurant was full the whole evening. It’s got such great character and were keen to get back next time we’re in Balmaha.

We were really looking forward to trying this place for an outdoor lunch on our day-trip to the area. It seemed particularly appealing as no pre-booking for outside tables is required according to the website. - So as we arrive we ask the first waiter we see about a table. "No problem, just sit down at any empty table and check in via QR code". "umm, my smartphone doesn't support that technology, is that a problem?" "no, that's fine, I can take your details & order on our system". OK, we chose a table and waited. Waitress turns up to wipe the table, mentions QR-system again. We give the same reply and ask for a printed menu. She replies they don't use printed menus but she'll get someone out to take our details & sort out our order. Nothing happens for 10 minutes. except she and two other waiters bring out a few orders to other tables and wipe some more tables. Eventually she turns up with two plates of fish & chips at our table. We stop her, saying we haven't had a chance to order and could someone please take our order, can't do QR codes etc.. Same reassuring smile, same promise, same result ( = nothing). Over another 10 minutes more tables get wiped, the waiters appear and disappear. We finally decide 25 minutes and no progress is enough. We leave and buy sandwiches next door to eat at the picnic tables in the park next door (lovely space). - In short: if this place is only to be used by smartphone owners, why not put up a clear sign and turn the rest away from the start? Oh, and by the way, you don't have our contact details because you failed to bring "your system" to our table - compliant with regulations? It seems the process needs fine-tuning. Only bright point: staff were friendly and food brought to other tables looked appealing.

Spent a wonderful day after loosening of COVID restrictions walking around Balmaha and had lunch at the Oak Tree Inn. As always food was great and the setup was great and easy. Well done all.

Another fanatic stay in The Oak Tree Inn. Menu has been limited as restaurant only for residents at the moment. Food still excellent. Chicken pie was outstanding. Breakfast never disappoints, even though no buffet. We still managed the porridge - which is the ultimate porridge made with cream - followed by a full Scottish. As ever, excellent service and very friendly staff. Lovely to have a change of scenery and a meal out. Thank you!

My partner and I had a night at The Oak Tree Inn last week and I couldn’t recommend it enough. On arrival the lovely lady on reception informed us we’d been given an upgrade to the Loch Sloy accommodation, we had the most beautiful views across the Loch and the room was clean and facilities were great (the caramel bar is a lovely touch). We enjoyed a walk up Conic hill, right on the doorstop of this hotel, followed by a wonderful meal in the restaurant. The restaurant is lit by fairy lights and warm lighting, along with the friendly staff and yummy food, this made for a very special evening.Breakfast was superb after our sunrise walk around the viewpoint. Staff were all super friendly and accommodating, thank you all for making our stay so special.

My wife and I went for a couple of days and stayed in one of the pods. The accommodation was immaculate. We also had dinner both nights, the food was amazing and the service was second to none (Kirsty in particular). The reception lady was also amazing. Remembered our name and was so happy to see us. Will definitely be back.
