The Nook has a small but sufficient menu for a small cafe. I didn't pre-book a table, but the staff found me one with a time-limit before a later booking; in fact, they allowed an hour and a half, which was more than enough time. The ribs were excellent and came with nice sides of chips and a tasty side salad with a full-bodied dressing. When I couldn't finish mine, it was no trouble for the waitress to have the leftovers packed in a box for me to takeaway. The waitress who served me was so friendly and polite.

Lovely, intimate restaurant serving quality food at a reasonable price. It has a limited range, but a reasonable selection. We eat there on two nights so tried four different dishes. Waitress was helpful and attentive and there was no rush as often happens at other places. It's not licenced but if you take your own wine, they charge £1 pp for corkage. However, we discovered that it would be closing in early October 2018 due to the owner having young children. We understand the resons why, but hopefully some solution will be found to enable it to stay open or reopen soon.

We enjoyed the food and the friendly service. They are not licensed so we brought our own wine which is nice and economical as the corkage fee is very low. My ribs were tasty and tender. The chicken mushroom meat pie special was good.

No licence for alcohol so you must bring your own, small menu of about 4 starters and desserts. The mains were mainly burgers and steaks and a couple of specials. Good service, nice starters of prawns and a dip, I had sirloin steak which I had to return as i asked for Medium/rare and it was well done, but there was no problem and the new steak was cooked in a jiffy. I have knocked one point off for the dessert which was Creme Brulee as it was not properly set and could see no evidence of vanilla in it.

Here for the night, two of us on business, and we’re treated to the most glorious food in a simple, understated and lovely, welcoming restaurant. I understand it’s closing in its current form in October; get there now! Quite the most pleasurable evening and the best food I’ve had for some time; and the bill was staggeringly small, in part because, without a licence, we took in our own. It’ll be worth revisiting in whatever guise they reopen.

We ate here for 1 night of our 5 night stay in Lynton and we only wish we had found it sooner, the restaurant has a welcoming atmosphere as soon as you walk through the door. We found most things on the menu tempting, in the end we both had the prawns for starters which were perfect. For main I had the cajun chicken burger and my husband had the steak which was cooked exactly to his liking. We tried to return the following night but unfortunately we stupidly didn't booked and there were no tables, we were gutted!!

Sacrificed watching the “other World Cup semi final” for a meal out at this small but perfectly formed restaurant in the heart of Lynton. The place has no licence so we brought our own bottle of wine which was no problem. From the starter menu, I had creamy garlic mushroom, Mrs W had prawns and Jr enjoyed spicy chicken wings (a favourite of his). My sirloin steak was tasty and the others enjoyed decent burgers with onion rings and various other trimmings. You’d need to book in the height of season. Service friendly and the bill the neatest I have ever seen! Thank you.

Went back to Lynton again for our birthdays, both mine and my husbands are two days apart. No better place to celebrate than the 'The Nook'. The menu had changed slightly but a lot of the regular items were still there. Went every night of our stay as the food is guaranteed to be of good quality and excellent taste .Word of warning though leave room for dessert because Joy makes a brilliant Eton Mess! Another plus is the bistro is unlicensed so you can take your own drinks. Don't worry if you forget you can get something from the Costcutter at the top of the street or from the pub next door which lets you take a drink around. The proprietors Max and Joy charge a £1 corkage charge but thats no problem. The food is mainly bistro style but well cooked and well presnted well worth a visit. If you go I guarantee you will return.wouldlike to rate the restraunt but thesection is not working, it it was I would put excellent throughout.

I have to admit that before we visited The Nook, we weren't too sure how it was going to turn out. The menu is a bit 'downmarket' (lots of chips and burgers etc.) but how wrong we were. The food was lovely (my ribs were superb) and everything was fresh. As they knew it was my sister's birthday, they were particularly attentive and even made her a different starter as she didn't like anything on their menu. Service was fantastic. The waitress was so lovely, and the chef came out to check that everything was OK. As they don't have an alcohol license (why not???) we brought along our own wine which made the meal cheaper. Visited here on my birthday whilst staying at Longmead House (see separate review). It’s BYO so I brought my own little bottle of Prosecco with me, as I’m the the only one of the three of us who enjoys a drop of wine. It was a quiet and chilly April Monday evening, and we were initially the only people in the restaurant, but by the time we left, there were quite a few in. Delicious home cooked food at very reasonable prices - my grilled salmon with herby potatoes, green beans, vine tomatoes and salad, with garlic sauce was £12.95. Great chocolate mousse, all well presented with a smile. We enjoyed it so much, we went back the following night.

We shared the baked camembert which was lovely and then I had Peri-Peri Chicken with sweet potato fries plus a side of homemade slaw which was very good. My partner had ribeye steak, medium rare, which he was very impressed with as it was cooked perfectly and extremely tender. This has an very good reputation and so in high season you will need to book. The food was excellent and the service great. You will need to bring your own alcoholic drinks as they do not hold a licence but that is no problem. Would definitely come again

Had a delicious birthday meal here last weekend. Large portions so we certainly didn't go hungry! I had the standard burger and my husband had the veggie burger. Both were very tastey and came with crispy home made thick chips (perfect!), salad, coleslaw and other sides. I had the Eton mess for dessert which was very light and creamy. Reasonable prices too. The waitress was very friendly and welcoming. Would definitely recommended if you're looking for a tastey and filling meal in Lynton.

Gerne wieder!

Recommended by our B and B Family run business, superb food very tasty...west country burger and home cooked chips, salmon and crushed new potatoes.lots to choose from on the menu. It is BYO but they do have soft drinks available. We walked in without a reservation and were lucky to get a table but it is wise to book. The host was rushed of her feet but was lovely and kept smiling. Great value for money.

My husband and I went here to celebrate our 20th Wedding anniversary. I am Coeliac and dairy intolerant and my husband is dairy intolerant. We asked for help with the menu from Joy, the Manageress. She was extremely helpful and knew exactly what we could eat. We were served homemade parsnip crisps as a complimentary entree. We both ordered the sirloin steak with home cut chips. It was cooked perfectly, the whole meal was delicious. Dessert is always a bit tricky for us with our dietary requirements but we had a choice of the Eton mess without cream (broken meringue and strawberries) or sorbet. We asked if we could have a combination of both and that was what we had. It was amazing. The ambience of the restaurant was perfect for our evening (a great playlist).

The Starter Barlocation-icon17 Broad StreetBrasserie

We have just had a brilliant family dinner at The Starter Bar. The staff were really friendly and welcoming and nothing was too much trouble! Our boys both have ADHD, which can make dinners out stressful, but the staff went out of their way to ensure the boys were happy and that we all felt welcome. Staff gave the boys colouring books, sharpened their pencils, chatted about dinosaurs and generally did anything to make them smile. We were relaxed enough to stay for desert, which never happens! All the food was delicious, varied and served piping hot. We definitely recommend the brownie sundae for pudding. The meal and drinks were good value and very tasty. Thank you to the two lovely ladies for giving us a really special evening to remember. Highly recommended.
