The New River Village in Renfrewshire

We ordered lemon chicken on 4th March. When it arrived, the chicken was stone cold and dried up! Disgusting. I called the restaurant immediately, as we have had bother before and were giving them the benefit of the doubt. I was spoken to in a most unacceptable rude manner . My husband returned the food and asked her " would you eat that" he asked twice , she replied "no". I phoned again to say how I felt about her attitude and ahe did apologise and said she knew she had been rude , so fair enough. We will never use River Village again, we have had a history of sayinf that but go back Noth this time. Dreadful. Sad to say.

Ordered a chinese with my friends paid for it over the phone wasn’t cheep and it didn’t even turn up tried to phone all phone calls ignored, would 100% not recommend, foods a bit bangin but

Despite having had a few bad experiences, we decided last week to order from New River Village. We ordered sweet and sour village for our nephew. We literally couldn't get the sauce to pour out..a gloopy disgusting mess. Nephew refused it. We did not even phone to complain as it's been consistently awful. Shame as it was our 'go to' Chinese. We most definitely wont return.

As always great food arrived hot very pleasant driver. This is only a take away now such a pity to lose the restaurant facilities

Friday night go-to place. Food is always delicious & fresh. Prices very reasonable. Would definitely recommend the shredded crispy beef, has a nice bite to it.

Got a take away from here Friday night, it was honestly one of the tastiest Chinese meals I have had the pleasure of eating in years. Good, honest, delicious food. I am so impressed!!!!!! Would totally recommend to anyone seeking decent Chinese!!!!! Delighted!!!! Ten out of ten....well done!!!

Ordered Szechuan chicken and a third of the way through I noticed the dead beast with one wing! Also cross contamination is a worry as I had a bean sprout randomly In my meal, I have noticed before random bits of chicken in beef meals ect. I will never order again! Hygiene is clearly not there priority!

Fantastic food ,friendly staff, can honestly say this is the best take away in Renfrewshire. Portions are very generous food is always very tasty. Deliveries are quick and the food is always hot. Love it.

The New River Village is always my first choice when it comes to a Chinese takeaway. The restaurant is clean and the staff are always friendly. I recently tried the salt and chilli beef which is the first time I have been disappointed since going here. There wasn’t much beef and a lot of batter which is something that can be easily rectified, but considering this is the first time I have had a bad experience in years I would say that that is pretty good going. Keep up the good work!

We've used River Village for a few take away now and it is a firm favourite. We've had a few different dishes and they have all been delicious. You will not be disappointed if you give it a try

Good prices with good size portions. Really enjoyed the takeaway from here, we can deliver for £1.30 so was easy enough to collect. Was only doing takeaways, with no sit-in option when visited

When this was River Village the previous owner/chef used to microwave the chicken and it was not a nice experience but since the new owners took over a few years ago the place has been completely transformed. This is the place we go every weekend. and could not imagine a Saturday nigh eating from somewhere else.

I buy my take away here very often. They serve a really good king prawn curry & shredded crispy beef dish with boiled rice...comes with a large bag of crackers too.

We always have the chicken satay as it's the best I have ever tasted! We travel from Paisley for a carry out meal most Fridays.

New River village takeaway restaurant. Until recently you could dine inside the restaurant which was great. Shame it's only doing takeaway food now. Wide range of dishes to please every taste and great value for money. Busy nights . Friday sat/sun.

Pedimos ser emitido para llevar (caro). Tarda una eternidad en llegar, todo estaba frío y comestible. Nunca he tenido que de todos modos ganó tun como y no habría comido. El resto de la comida fue un desastre. Mi madre llamó al día siguiente y me dijeron que debería haber hablado con ellos la noche anterior, pero como estaba ahora el día siguiente sólo podían disculparse. No lo suficiente. Sin duda no volveré allí ni lo recomendaría a cualquiera, que sin duda necesitan conseguir operación tgheir funcionando correctamente.

Llevar a cabo el restaurante muy concurrido. El personal es agradable y rápido. Empezamos con el lugar tan pronto como se abrió y siempre me pareció increíble. Habíamos estado usando en bastantes meses cuando una noche pedimos un pollo chow mein. Este es mi marido pero era horrible favorito tan mal de hecho no comer. Las piezas de pollo eran enormes y correoso y sin sabor. Todo lo demás fue desagradable. No sabe como chow mein. No nos quejamos, pero no volver. A veces están cerrados porque no tienen personal. Y si vas un sábado es muy, muy ocupados!

Our favourite takeaway that's always amazing, great prices and delivery is speedy. Would highly recommend the salt and chilli chicken, Singapore Chow Mein but to be honest I've never had anything I didn't like. Only thing they could do better is free prawn crackers. Thanks x

Love the food but after ordering a delivery of special fried rice with gravy which arrived after 50 mns meat free with BBQ sauce - my pet hate! was shocked by their 'customer service' when I called to complain - was told '"that's what you ordered!"?????Having previously posted an excellent review of this place I'm very disappointed.

My family and I get a takeaway roughly once a week usually amounting to over £30. Although the food is good, the orders keep arriving with items missing. One week was a whole mail meal and this week, our cans of irn bru. Highly inconvenient when you've got a heavy comedown and irn bru is one of the only things that can cure you. I will not be returning here

A very nice restaurant with very pleasant staff. The menu is extremely varied and has always been extremely well received by my family.

Never had a bad meal from here lovely staff too,,I even have friends from 2 towns away come here for a decent Chinese takeaway.

If the prices were not 'city centre' we would probably use it more. The food itself can't be faulted and is some of the best chinese food I've ever had. However the prices could do with being looked at. It's not cheap but the food is fresh,beautifully presented and delicious.

Very pleasant staff. Food was all pretty good. However, I failed to pick up on the price of the 2 course menu for my children. £14.50 per child. Excessive for young children not least if they had chosen soup and ice cream. Portions could have been reduced and in doing so cost. Children didn't make a dent in their main portion but a significant dent in bill.

Excellent choice of food. Great value for money. Extremely friendly staff. Will definitely visit again when we're up that way.

Stop by this place to fulfill Chinese food craving for soups and noodles. The taste was pretty decent along with the pricing.

The food they serve is always fantastic and as nice as it is to get a takeaway it's even nicer to just sit in and have a relaxing meal. The staff are always friendly and pay attention to any additional requests you make in relation to your order. I would highly recommend this restaurant.

The food from here never disappoints! Sometimes you have to wait, especially on weekends/end of the month, but it really is worth it. The food is fresh and always tastes nice. If there's anything you want but don't see on the menu, just ask and they'll do their best to accommodate.

Me and my family came here for a quick bite to eat. The food was amazing with a great kick the staff was amazing best customer service in town but the food is what makes the place so special so I would recommend it to a family or a couples night out 10/10

Great food and really fast service at River Village. I use this regularly for carry-out food but have also eaten there and have enjoyed the atmosphere and décor. The food is very good quality and is always hot and fresh. Prices are very reasonable with a Chinese meal costing little more than a fish supper. Happy to be a regular!

We use The River Village at least once a week for a take away, we find the food is freshly cooked and its delicious every time.

Love this place, the food is amazing, would recommend it to anyone. The wafer prawns are to die for in fact everything on the menu is! Staff are lovely too.

We have used this restaurant since it changed to current owners, we brought friends and recommended it.. BUT the last couple of take away meals have been disastrous!! I ordered Chicken Mary land and 2/3 of it went to the bin. Last time the food was stone cold and rice not cooked... the chicken tonight could not be cut was so tough. The restaurant offered a free meal on next visit but I am sorry to say there won't be a next time. We don't like dining in as take away customers stand at door looking in!!! Like feeding time at zoo +place is freezing. Shame as it started so v well.

Buy at the takeaway often food okay but takeaway area small and often crowded peaople block door could do with a bigger area but service okay better to pick up as delivery service could take a while

A last minute decision turned into a trip advisor search, resulting in us visiting the New River Village.The food was first class, and the service team impeccable. A rush on Take Away orders meant a bit of a delay on our mains arriving, but it was worth the wait.Looking forwards to going back.

Amazing dine in Chinese with the freshest dishes. Always great service from the staff. By reasonably priced.

Have eaten in River Village since it opened and cannot fault it. The staff are lovely and the food is faultless. Honestly next time you fancy a Chinese meal save the bus or taxi fare and stay local. You won't get a better quality meal anywhere. Enjoy

we recently returned home after a holiday and decided to drop off our luggage and go straight out for a meal while the house heated up the restaurant was very cold and the food decidedly average they could not make coffee and the waiter started to pour my wifes jasmine tea the moment he brought it to the table resulting in a cup of hot water this used to be a smashing little restaurant when under different ownership but we certainly will not be returning while under the present ownership

I have been here many times - never been disappointed - both food and service fantastic - big portions which I could finish but was offered to parcel up to take home. Very good Chinese food definitely worth trying. Not tried it as a takeaway but seems very busy.

Very disappointed the food was awful the restaurant fells more like a café setting rather then a restaurant the tables are all in straight lines I fell you get a lack of privacy and the restaurant was cold it lacks atmosphere and they cant make a decent coffee. I would never go back ever again.

Good! No it's better it's great! Was hoping for good and was pleasantly surprised to get excellent. Mother in law has used this place for years for a take out. If you do then YOU MUST go and sit down and sample the menu. Ask for the secluded table by the window. Chilli spare runs worked for me. - the Mrs recommended the prawns.

Went here to sit in with my husband we had a lovely meal very tasty and large portion sizes we were stuffed after, staff friendly and welcoming would recommend this to friends and family

Today was my birthday and it all went wrong. I ended up in hospital for an x-ray and then had to go in the opposite direction as my grandson had forgotten his p.e. kit. The plan had been a lunch out. We ended up in a different place and had lunch in the New River Village. Fate had obviously intervened as we had a lovely lunch with good food and service. We had not been in this restaurant since the new owners took over and we will certainly be back.

well ate here for an impromptu dinner with the other half. the staff were very attentive and you were by no means rushed to eat. nice paced dinner although we could only eat two courses as the mains are rather large. Food was well presented and hot. only critisism is that the atmosphere is a bit lacking but to be honest when the food is good and you have good company you kinda make your own atmosphere.

Have had several takeaways from here and have never been disappointed so decided to go for a sit-in. Dishes seemed a wee bit pricey for a local restaurant but plenty of choice. For starters, my daughter and I chose the meat sharing platter and hubby the hot n sour soup, both were lovely - especially the chicken and prawn roll. Mains were equally tasty and portions were large. My twice cooked beef dish (which I only managed to eat half of) was 'melt in the mouth" and delicious as were the other mains. We finished off with banana fritters and ice cream which was beautifully presented. This is a lovely restaurant with well presented tasty food and despite my initial impression is goid value. One wee complaint though....dim those bright lights and maybe a wee bit of background music.

Visited this restaurant recently for dinner. Good menu on offer, food was very well presented and very tasty. The restaurant doesn't serve draught beer and it was very costly for bottled beer - £3.75 for a 335ml bottle. The restaurant was very quite, and lacking a wee bit in atmosphere

having used another local Chinese for many years I had heard that the River Village was worth a try so opted to order takeaway from there....have never looked back since & this is now my Chinese of choice. every dish I've ordered has been r really lovely and always arrives warm. really delighted to be using them now

I normally only order takeaway, however I was pleasantly sutrprised when I took my wife out for a nice meal, service and attention to detail was great. well presented, freshly cooked to perfection....

Have used this restaurant on many occasions for home delivery and the food has always been fantastic. I will definitely use this restaurant in the future for home delivery. The only thing I would say is when sitting in the restaurant area there was a bit of noise coming from the area where customers were waiting for their carry out food unfortunately this cannot be helped as people do need somewhere to wait. Overall great place with great food.

Was staying overnight in erskine and this restaurant was recommended. It was wonderful.. Starter was lovely. Crisp pancake rolls with salad garnish and chilli dipping sauce..then had beef and onion which was not only beautiful presented but tasted gorgeous. Staff were helpful without being in your face. Would recommend this lovely restaurant to anyone.

My husband and I went here yesterday evening while our kids were at a party nearby. It was a lovely little restaurant and we both had the Emperors 3 course meals. We both started with the chicken satay and these were delicious, so was the satay sauce. For our mains I had the Hong Kong style sweet and sour chicken with noodles and my husband had Kung Po chicken with fried rice. I was very impressed with the amount of cashews in the Kung Po as many places tend to skimp on these! There was around 2-3 cashews for each mouthful. My Hong Kong chicken was perfect, the sauce was gorgeous and the chicken had just the right crispness to the batter.For desserts I had the banana fritters and my other half had the pineapple fritter, again the presentation was lovely and the flavours and textures were amazing.The presentation on all of the food was fantastic, the decor and ambiance was lovely and peaceful and the staff were attentive but not overly so (I had read a few previous reviews of customers feeling bothered by the staff, this was not the case at all on our visit) we were both very impressed.The one and only complaint would be that the knives were a little difficult to grip.If we are in Erskine again we will definitely be visiting New River Village again, thank you for a lovely meal.Polly.

Food is lovely but always have to wait 40 mins to an hour to collect a takeaway. Maybe they could consider more staff to accommodate the demand. Wouldnt like to wait for a delivery.

On a drive back from England we thought we'd grab a quick bite before heading home. We had our two year old with us. We chose it as it was the best rated near our home in Bowling. Having lived in the city centre for years, we are frequently disappointed by restaurants near us but this was a really pleasant surprise.We ordered salt and pepper prawns which were beautifully crunchy and nicely chilli. Our second main was mandarin beef which was fresh and sweet with lots of lovely onions. The fine soft noodles were really top class too. We'll definitely enjoy coming here more now we have found it.

Visited this restaurant several times between mid November 2014 and early January 2015. On every occasion I have to say that the service was excellent and this excellence was matched by the quality of the food. Good sized portions are served and I would find it hard to believe anyone going home hungry. No complaints from any one in our various parties and this is not always easy. The New River Village gets John's Vote.

This place is much better now since it changed hands. use regular . best one in erskine. few in bishopton still better though

We went to The New River Village between Christmas and New Year for dinner. I often find that small Chinese restaurants just have take-away food served on plates for a pound or two per meal more than take away prices, but this place was genuinely nice - the decor is bright, food was great quality and the presentation of the dishes was really nice too - the owners have clearly put a bit of thought into their restaurant and it sets it apart from similar places in nearby Renfrew or Paisley.We had squid, beef in black bean sauce, prawns in rice paper, prawns with ginger and garlic, vegetable soup and mixed curry. We had fried rice with the mains. The prawns in rice paper were the best starter, and the beef in black bean sauce was very good as a main. The veg soup wasn't special, but was OK. All the main courses came on square plates with individual bowls of fried rice, and we were brought complimentary prawn crackers to begin and fortune cookies at the end.I like Chinese food, but it's difficult to find somewhere that is reasonably priced and pleasant to visit. It's worth coming to Erskine to go here for dinner, and we'll likely go back soon!

We went as a couple to this restaurant. Quick service great food. Not giving 5 due to staff continually attending the table to see if we wanted drinks. I have to say since it has been done up I hadn't visited for a long while. We were pleasantly impressed.

I eat here often by dinning in,they have always gave us a delicious meal, highly recommended,the staff are very polite and welcoming, yes you need to go past the people wanting take aways ( does that not prove its great food?) hoping to go here tomorrow ...BEST CHINESE :)

Well we have not been here for around 5 years for sit in or cary out, I really fancied a sit down meal and thought we would go back and try it out. We had not stopped becasue of any reason just go to Bishopton more often.Good news the food was awsome, place is a bit bright lit and you have to fight your way through the cary out customers, place was empty for sit ins, I think more people prefer take away here and it is pricey to sit in, we had no drinks, the best bit is that if we go carry out we would ahve shared a main but you dont feel you can do this in a reatsurant so end up having to much, we will be abck for cary outs again! The service was okay again cary outs comes first!

Had a meal in this restaurant on a miserable evening late in October. There wasn't many people in the restaurant which was surprising. The food was hot and tasty and the service was sharp and on the ball. Nice one!

As a long term customer of a rival restaurant that is shut for two weeks due to a holiday I was impressed by the quality and taste of both my wife's meal and my own.theres a good possibility that new river village will be my new local takeaway

Had a very good meal here, but it was off putting squeezing past people to get into the restaurant think the restaurant owners would do very well if they had a separate doors for take away and restaurant

Despite now offering set menu in the evening (when they didn't do previously) they don't bother to hand out menu's for that and we only discovered this after the event. Add to that, when ordering a takeaway a few weeks ago they refused to do a children's portion (as part of a much larger order).Short sighted approach because it will take a lot to get me back there, when with a little more customer care I would have been a regular.Not many people in (I wonder why) and no atmosphere or character to speak of.

This is the 2nd review I have written for this restaurant, the 1st was way back when it first opened, since then this is still our first choice for Chinese.I would mention though, on Saturday night, earlyish, 3 of us went into the Restaurant, we were the only people sitting in although takeaway seemed busy. The staff and Manager were polite however made no effort to engage in conversation or ask if we had enjoyed the nice weather and as fairly regular customers no sign of any recognition at all. The other thing was we asked for a bottle of house white and were given a choice of two and we chose the Pinot Grigio, nice enough but at £16.95 per bottle very expensive for a local restaurant, I would expect to pay £16.95 in a city centre restaurant for a house white not in the local restaurant.My point is, the food cannot be faulted, however would be nice if there were more people sitting in to give a nice atmosphere, I think the Management should make more of an effort to make this Restaurant a "friendly" local Restaurant by engaging with the Customer more, even if you do not recognize them every Customer should be treated as though a visitor to your home, and have a house wine at around £10:95 per bottle, other restaurants, even City Centre Restaurants can offer £9.95 house wine, it could bring in more Customers therefore hitting the mark with giving the place an atmosphere.Food is still great though.

I absolutely love everything about this restaurant. Have sat in to have meals, tried the lunchtime menu and the takeaway as well and cannot fault a thing.Food is awesome, nice dining area, great service from the staff and brilliant value for money. I would recommend the spring rolls, chicken fried rice, chicken and mushroom and sweet and sour chicken. Portion sizes are brilliant and would highly recommend visiting this restaurant for the best Chinese food I have ever tasted.

This was my second visit to The New River Village and won't be my last.... I can't wait to go back.We started with a meat shared platter which has 2 ribs, 2 chicken wings, 2 paper chicken, 2 chicken parcels and crispy seaweed.... 2 dips supplied and I have to say a wonderful mix of tastes needs to be tried... For mains we had king prawn shezuan and a crispy shredded chicken with fried rice. Beautiful and not a bit left.The desserts we always choose the ice cream it is from Thorntonhall Farm and is amazing we have tried the coconut and also the Scottish tablet flavour.... highly recommended!!!Then there was the glass of green tea you need to see it in action as the flower blooms in front of your eyes.... and a lovely flavour to follow. All in all it cost £51.00 ish and worth every penny...

Tried this place for the first time today with me boyfriend, ordered from the set lunch menu (2 courses and a drink for 8.50) I had the spring rolls to start which were ok, bit too much pepper inside them to for me personally, had the chicken satay and fried rice for main (80p supplement) that was really good. My boyfriend had the chicken noodle soup and beer curry which he really enjoyed. Will definitely be back, place is spotless..was very quiet was only us and an older couple in, service was very quick and the staff were lovely. Can't beat the price!

Delicious food at a reasonable price. The staff are very welcoming and the restaurant has a nice atmosphere. Also use the takeaway and the standard of food is no different to that when sitting in. I would highly recommend the salt and chilli chicken and the chicken chow mein. Easily the best restaurant in Erskine and one of the nicest Chinese restaurants I have eaten from.

Pretty tasteless takeaway and not cheap. Tried on 3 occasions to give it a fair chance but it never improved.

I have visited this restaurant a few times over the past months and not once have I been disappointed. The staff are attentive, the atmosphere is calm and pleasant and the food is well presented and delicious! The coconut ice cream is a must to try, they have many different flavours to offer and I intend to work my way through them! I have highly recommended this restaurant to friends family and colleagues and they have not been disappointed. It is good to have good quality restaurant on your doorstep.........

Visited here with friends and can I say this is one of the best meals we have had. From the starters to the ice cream everything was delicious.The choices on the menu was good and there should be something to suit everyone's tastes, including a great selection of ice cream including Scottish tablet which according to 2 members of our party was really good and even had bits of tablet in it. Great if you have a sweet tooth.Portion size and presentation of the food was good and taste wise it was wonderful and I am not just speaking for myself, Everyone enjoyed their meal immensely. One of our party had the prawn toast and he said it was perfect and not greasy at all. Even the coffee was really smooth and enjoyable.Staff were really friendly and polite.Look forward to another visit soon.

Have had curries and Siam chicken the last two weekends. Honestly it is safe to say the curry from here is the best I've had in a long time. Siam chicken is superb. Keep it up guys. Nice to have such a good local restaurant / takeaway in the town.

Use this regularly but as a take way service. It can, at times, be a bit hit and miss - forgetting to add the extras that you have requested. However, the last two meals have been great and quick service from order to pick up.

Unusually for me, this review is after my second visit to this restaurant, so I will divide my review into two reflecting each visit.The first time I went to this restaurant was with a couple of colleagues who were staying in the same hotel and The New River village was within walking distance. We were welcomed and seated upon arrival and ordered drinks to get started.My starter was Spare Ribs with Peking Sauce. The sauce was good and the pork ribs were well cooked so they pulled apart when bitten into as you would expect.My main course was, as anyone who has read my other reviews of Chinese restaurants will expect, Sweet and Sour Pork, Hong Kong Style. Whilst reasonable, I found the lack of a sour bite disappointing.On my second visit, I was in a bit of a rush and pointed this out to the waiter. On that basis he helped me to choose my selections from the menu to ensure I wasn’t late for my upcoming appointment.I chose Chicken Satay as my starter. As on my previous visit, I found the sauce to be a little disappointing and there was no real peanut taste.For my main course I chose Crispy Beef with Fried Rice. This was a good choice and tasted nice and flavoursome. I was a bit concerned with the colour of the dish. It seemed very red and artificial. I’ve attached a photograph with this review; I’d be interested in knowing what readers think of this.The Staff have been very good on both my visits. They are helpful and polite and enhance the dining experience.

Was tempted back after years of trying other Chinese in erskine/bishopton... So glad we did.. This is now our regular takeaway. Also visited for a lunchtime meal and instead if the usual small not up to evening meal standards the food was excellent.. I hope the restaurant goes from strength to strength? Just one request from staff... A small smile might help, you could be a bit more welcoming, both at takeaway and sit in.. Good luck

Have eaten hear with colleagues many times now, staff are friendly and helpful. Food is well priced, great portions, great quality and very fresh. The environment is very nice and time has been taken to make it stand out. This place has to be the best Chinese restaurant in Scotland, would happily recommend to anyone

I ordered a takeaway during the week i got king prawn garlic and ginger.In my dish was shredded lettuce instead of the ginger they must have ran out of ginger and didn't say There was taste of garlic but was scent no ginger present what soeer to add to the disappointing dish my partners egg foo yung dish had a egg shell in it .The thing that was annoying is I paid for ginger not shredded lettuce to make up for no ginger .I want a refund but was too cold to go back with it . and after work i was very tired.

We called for a delivery on Saturday to be told that is would be 30 to 45 minutes which was fine as this is the standard wait. After 1 hour i called back to see what the hold up was to be told it would be another 20 to 25 minutes wait, I suggested that we come and pick it up to be told yes it was ready and that would be fine, when I arrived to pick it up was told he would go check and came back and said 5 minutes by this time it was 1 hour 30 minutes after we had originally rung for a delivery. Got to the takeaway there were at least 10 people waiting and most of them had been waiting 40 minutes When I asked what the hold up was was just told sorry no effort was made to compensate us for the wait they were running around like headless chickens Definitely have lost our custom

Not knowing that the New River village was under new ownership, my daughter and I popped in for a quick bite not expecting anything more than palatable. What a surprise, it had all been refurbished however it was not until we tasted our food that we realised it was new management and a new chef, the taste and quality of food was terrific. On subsequent visits with my husband and family it has not dissapointed and this is now our first choice when eating out for Chinese or calling for home delivery. One visit I had ordered something different and was not that keen when it arrived, Gary asked if something was wrong with my meal and I said no the food is fine just not to my taste, quick as a flash he was in the kitchen having the chef whip me up something else, no extra charge. I wish more people would start to use this restaurant, it would be brilliant to pop along some night and it was very busy. My advise to Management is "ADVERTISE" people in Erskine and surrounding areas still do not know you are under new management and what a hidden gem we have in Erskine.
