Don’t… you will be bitterly disappointed… Tasteless mush. Ribs as a starter as dry as a stick… spring rolls consisting of cabbage… and tasteless Main courses worse… Dreadful place give it a by ball

It had been some time since I’d been to this place and was quite looking forward to taking my family.. What a disappointment.. we ordered the set dinner for four ( option D ) and agreed to pay a little extra to change the soup for the crispy aromatic duck. The mixed platter was edible the duck was also edible, it had been bulked up with a handful of lettuce in below to make it look a reasonable amount. The mains were the biggest disappointment . Don’t know what the salted chilli chicken was but it didn’t taste like chicken,as for the fillet steak Cantonese style it was horrible and not sure what it was . The other mains were edible and that’s being reasonable. That was bad enough but when I received the bill they added £25 pounds to change soup to duck with no allowance for not taking soup and then charged us for our coffee’s which we’re supposed to be included in the meal price. Waitress didn’t want to know… We won’t be back

We genuinely enjoyed our 3 course lunch for a tenner. Yes a tenner. The food is ok quality. Service was concord fast. Literally as you set down your fork, whoosh your plate and cutlery were gone. So I had salted battered chilli ribs as a starter. Lovely, my type of cheap heat with chilli flakes (no fresh chilli) spring onion, onion garlic I mean really finger - licking good. My wife had a smoked chicken starter. My main was a Peking battered over cooked chicken with really 5 star noodles (£1 more for noodles) and they were really delicious. Again the Peking sauce was strong tasting with no refinements but hey 3 courses £10. My wife has sweet & sour pork (shoulder) somewhat fatty, a bit disappointing and she wouldn’t order it again. I had banana fritter for dessert and it’s been a long time since I had this dessert. It came with cheap ice cream. The batter around the banana was very poor and the worst part of the meal truly 1 star. I left it on the side. The golden syrup was ungenerous. I’d have surrendered the vegetable oil/air ice cream for more syrup but we’ve never been here before. My wife had ice cream. I really can’t be too critical of this place as put bluntly the price charged makes it 5 star value. It is cheap junk food. The prices here reflect this but it’s far better junk than the comparable similarly priced highly processed junk meals from Mc D, BK, KFC etc. I’m usually critical of Chinese fast food places and my criticism derives essentially out of the fact that it’s well over - priced and rip off fast food - the ingredients are mostly cheap: dried noodles, white rice, fried rice with chemically induced soy sauce (not kikkoman) and salt added, maybe some scrambled egg. Meats include flank steak from the abdominal muscles of the cow, cheap pork cuts, shoulder and ribs, battery chicken with duck and prawns being priced at the more expensive end. The sauces too, orange and lemon sauce - usually a boiled white lemonade base thickened with potato starch. Sweet & sour being vinegar/sugar based artificially coloured with chemical food colouring powders, Peking sauce being a variation of sweet & sour with factory made brown sauce added (usually OK sauce) curry from plain flour, a ton of onions and oil fried together with curry power added to taste, similarly ‘gravy’ is the same base as curry but instead of curry powder they add liquid carmel (burnt sugar). Black bean is chicken stock based with fine chopped ginger and garlic and potato starch and on it goes - there’s few ingredients that are of themselves expensive - no cream, butter, saffron. What makes the posher Chinese places ‘better’ are the refinements to the basic sauces so higher end sweet & sour may have had oranges and lemons cut in half and boiled with the sugar and vinegar. The vinegar may be a better refined product - less harsh, fried rice might have a better quality soy. It’s almost unique to cheap Chinese places for them to use a technique of velveting cheap meats, beef is cut thin and even against the grain, chicken too and then marinating briefly in a mix of baking soda, cornstarch (wine if you’re lucky) and seasoning. I know I’m repeating myself but it was ok here - it’s junk food and once you get this and get that they aren’t ripping you off then eat up and say thanks or go elsewhere. We would return here and we have often paid more for much worse.

Seated at a table in a rather cold restaurant. Dinner in coats because of miserable hosts!Noticed that the disposable table cloth was stained with food from previous customers in at least 2 different places. Requested a different table only to discover it was also covered in food stains. No effort to clean whatsoever. Begs the question that if a restaurant can display such disregard for cleanliness in the dining area what sort of unhygienic issues go unnoticed elsewhere. Left and ate somewhere else

I notice, after reading through the reviews, quite a few claim that Furama is the best Chinese in Antrim. I dread to think what the others are like! I ordered a chicken dish and I’m not sure how any chef could turn chicken breast into the stringy, gelatinous lumps that were on my plate. It neither tasted nor had the texture of chicken and when the waitress came to clear the table and I pointed out that I couldn’t eat it she laughed and obviously couldn’t have cared less. The waitress that delivered the bill said she’d mention it to the boss but took full payment. Cutting corners with quality won’t bring in customers!

Had previously used a couple of different Chinese Restaurant and Takeaway until I went to The Furama for lunch one day and never looked back. As a family, we had a great experience, from oldest to youngest in our group we were all treated exceptionabley well by all the staff members who passed by our table. The food was excellent and the children also enjoyed everything they had chosen to order. I am unfortunately now housebound but order at least 3 times a week and enjoy the same excellent food at home, I miss the atmosphere of the friendly restaurant but am happy to know my children and grandchildren still go for lunch when they can.

I had previously left good ratings, but I will never be back. You'd think having only just managed to get their food hygiene back up from 1 star (the lowest rating you can get) back to 4 star (not perfect) they would have tried harder. Placed my order for a delivery and paid upfront early New Years Eve as we had family visiting. I was told it could be 10 to 15 minutes late. Order was over an hour late with no sign of it being delivered Tried phoning but all I got was the engaged tone. I walked down and enquired after my order, I also phoned whilst I stood at the Reception, the Handset was down but the phone did not ring, obvously they had some was of setting it so anyone phoning for an order to to chase one alread placed would get an engaged tone all the time. Delivery driver who was waiting in reception told me they had been running late all night, obviously having taken more orders than they could hnadle and working on the theory people would have to wait. I was told they were in the process of completing my order. I walked home and arriverd as my order was being delivered, and it wasn't even complete! and only an hour and a half late. Avoid it at all cost and go hungry is the best recommendation I can make! or go elsewhere.

Pretty darn rotten poor takeaway - think more throw away. We got about 10 meals from here - I paid but someone else took my credit card for the purpose. I didn’t bother going in for the food or looking at the receipt when I got my card back, so I’ve no idea of the cost but it wasn’t worth it. I got to taste a few main dishes: curry and black bean had lousy flavour, they were watery with the latter particularly awful as the onions were essentially boiled and likewise the chicken which looked stringy from being boiled. Good black bean sauce is a deep tasting rich coating to the meat not near a half pint of tasteless runny liquid more akin to dishwater. 2 star for the curry zero for black bean. The sweet and sour was the other end of the scale - it was jam like, sticky, due to a copious amount of boiled sugar and sunset yellow food colour - that’s nasty stuff. I could have held the sauce upside down in the container and it wouldn’t have run out. Two stars out of 5. My wife declared her salted chilli chicken as rotten, so no stars. The smoked chicken was alright and just barely 3 star. The fried rice was good likewise the soft noodles - 3 star for both. The free prawn crackers are cheap, nasty rubbish - so no stars. Tip to owner go buy quality crackers and get a few takeaways from Red Panda Belfast to show what good takeaway Chinese food is.

We're not often in Antrim but fancied dinner before a long commute home. We arrived as the restaurant had just opened and were presented with a choice of two menus which were great value for money. I opted for a the main menu while the kids went for the set menu. They'd two courses for £11 and I'd two starters with an additional side. The salted chilli squid was soft and delicious. The kids thoroughly enjoyed their dishes and I particularly enjoyed the twist on their salmon dish. It was still juicy and not overcooked. The staff are pleasant and efficient and my only gripe would be the dated decor. Plastic plants everywhere (which are coated in dust) and paper tablecloths need to be removed to brighten the place because right now it's only half the package. I would return next visit but perhaps for takeaway.

The New Furama has always been my favourite Chinese restaurant in Antrim. The staff are always pleasant and welcoming and service is prompt and efficient. In my opinion the Chicken Curry with Fried Riced is hard to beat. The business 3 course lunch is excellent value at £6.80 during the week and £7.80 on Sundays. The only negative comment I would make is there is no lift and the stairs are quite steep and unsuitable for any one with a disability or mobility problems.

Visited for lunch at 1345. Lunch menu is from 12-2pm as advertised on the door. On entering restaurant the waiter stared at myself and my husband- on ushering us to the table he stated 'you may order quick the kitchen is closing' Ordered 3 course which is the lunch time deal. Food came out extremely quickly...all 3 courses out in 30 mins...would appear to all be reheated. Ordered a chicken curry... chicken had a gelatenous texture. Husband ordered chilli beef in which he was able to pull out a hair. Both ordered a coke each and both flat with absolutley no fizz. I am not one to usually comment or make reviews and i have been here on several occasions but on this visit i noticed a massive decline in the standards. Also decor is very outdated and shabby looking.

This place has me confused as the word 'New' isn't on the signage out front, nor on the takeaway menu. I last ate from this place a few years ago and I recall I really wasn't impressed. Truth to tell, I find there aren't many good quality Chinese takeaways around any more and I note that the local chinese takeaways round my home town have raised their prices recently so we are now moving into rip off territory. Doesn't seem that long ago that the prices were hiked. Maybe it's the new generation, focussed only on maximising profit while cutting every corner. Anyway, mini rant over as I cook my own Chinese at home more often since I pick the quality of the meat and veg so I'm not ripped off as much. I enjoyed my food from here this time. It was pretty ok and gets a strong three stars. I had my usual king prawn (8) salt & chilli & boiled rice. Prawns were fairly good and the rice was just perfectly steam cooked. My family had a few salt and chilli chicken and these were overcooked and not as good as they should have been. Had they been better it would have been four star. The problem here is the potato starch used as the outside casing on the chicken. You can fry this stuff for a long time and it remains edible but if you are not experienced or careless you can end up drying out the chicken inside the coating as happened here. There was a chicken noodle dish was was quite good too. I also tried some of the fried rice too that came with the chicken dishes and it was better than most I've had recently. The last time I reviewed this place I said I regretted not going to the Red Panda. Now I reverse my view, in fact having been to the Antrim Red Panda recently I wouldn't recommend it to anybody.

Well utter rubbish, I enjoy Chinese food, I have been to China 5 times and love the culture and food.Avoid this place like the plague.I ordered a portion of salted chilly ribs and special chop suey. It should have been described as salted chilly bones because that is all I got, coated bones and deep fried utter rubbish no meant on the bones, pure rubbish, waste of money do not buy it. Then my second dish special Chop Suey. Normally this dish contains egg, prawn char su pork, beef and chicken. what I got was beansprouts and lots of them, one piece of chicken, one prawn and one piece of beef. No char sui pork just veg and my bill including two cokes £14.80. I called the company to complain. the offered a new meal. Why would I want two position of rubbish. I was told just how great this place is. I was also told that this place was far better than the Red Panda I go to at Junction 1. The dishes here were alright toward good but not great but the food and the portions here should be much better given the high price charged. I had a boiled rice with a king prawn salt and chilli and it was only ok. I also sampled their chilli chicken and once again I found nothing at all to rave about. When I pay a high enough price I really do expect top end food and generous portions of food to boot but this place just disappointed in quality and also in portion size. There's nothing whatever to wow or to say is great great about this place, in fact it only encouraged me to try somewhere else next time and to regret not going instead to the aforementioned Red Panda.

A group of six of us went to the Furama for a meal last weekend. We were greeted politely and seated promptly, the staff were very efficient and friendly. We found the menu to be extensive, to the point that it took us quite a while to chose! Our orders took a while to arrive but I put that down to the food being freshly prepared as that is how it looked and tasted. The staff were attentive during the meal but not intrusive to our conversation. The starter portions varied in size my husbands BBQ ribs and my friends smoked chicken were enough for two while I only got four scallops in too much chilli sauce, but they were cooked to perfection. The mains were delicious and good size portions. We all agreed that it was a pity we hadn't been the Furama in a long time and would be back as it was a good night and all six of us would recommend it!

Had a really lacklustre experience here this evening. Service was good but the food itself was bland and unappealing, so much so that it seemed the sauce that came with two of the starters and one of the mains was actually the same sauce despite being three different orders. The restaurant itself has seen better days and we were one of only two tables in the whole place. Sad to see what was once a lovely choice for a meal out go so far downhill.
