The New Dragon in Dumfries & Galloway

Phoned 20 minutes before google and trip advisor said they close to order, didn’t even manage to say hello before I got told last order is quarter past ten we close at half 10 with a really horrible attitude then was hung up on before I could even apologise and explain! Won’t be going back. You don’t treat paying customers like that... and as a side note maybe update your opening times on google/trip advisor and you won’t get a phone call when your shut for the evening... no need for the attitude at all! Only given one star because I can’t give 0

Awful chinese food. Is it possible to care less about the food you serve? Should have walked out the minute I saw the carpets but we had travelled all day so desperate. But really.

Visited tonight for a takeaway. Chicken fillet Cantonese was basically a tub of liquid with very little chicken, accompanied by a pitiful portion of rice and chips. Dry and tasteless spare ribs and the smallest portion of prawn crackers I've ever been sold! Complete waste of £25. Only visited because Sun Man Chinese was closed. Won't be back again.

Glad we ignored the negative views and gave the restaurant a shot, we ate from the lunch time menu, my partner had beef satay and friend rice, which he said was the best he'd in Dumfries for a while, I had spring roll and vegatable curry, both were delicious, staff were very friendly and attentive, will definitely be back :)

Worst Chinese thought we'd give it a try, so disappointed, won't be back , ordered crispy beef, it was like soup.

ordered sweetcorn soup( watery) wife ordered barbecue ribs (dry) obviously been thrown in fryer frozen,ordered beef with ginger /spring onion , i dont know what it was , meat grey ,tasteless , to be fair did not charge for this meal, fried rice had obviosly warmed in microwave in a bowl as was this shape when presented. overall a terrible meal

Great prices, and customer service. Best Chinese food I've had in ages. Big portions too. Happy to recommend. Fabulous.

We walked into this restaurant on Sat. 20th April and first impressions were, can we just leave please. We were told by someone who lives in Dumfries that this was probably the best one in town, but as the two of us walked in the number of diners increased by 100%.The carpet is taped together, the wallpaper is peeling in parts and it is generally quite dingy with the obligatory 1970's fish tank taking up one complete wall. The menu I was handed was covered in food, for which the waiter apologised and they did not have the starter that we ordered for which they also apologised.The food when it arrived was generally OK, but the taster plate of Chinese strarters was grossly overpriced for what it contained.Overall, average and would we recommend or return, probably not.

My hubby and i had a take away it was nice and flavourful good price friendly staff definatley use again

Was a bit worried when we walked in here on a Monday night - the 2 of us doubled the number of dinners! Relieved when a few more arrived.Restaurant is a bit tired but the staff were very friendly and the food was nice and reasonably priced

Went today 06/06/18 as I,ve tried to go few times but always to late . So today we went for lunch before we went next door for haircut. Place lovely and clean . Staff friendly enough . I had chicken noodle soup it was ok cud do with more seasoning, wife had prawn cocktail lovely big prawns but lettuce looked a bit past it. Sweet and sour chicken best I,ve tasted in ages . Proper batter round the chicken (hate going to Chinese/fish and chip shops as they use same batter for both and it's quite different batter shud be used) 5 huge pieces lovely fat chips and loads of egg fried rice. Wife had chicken curry smelt lovely she had egg fried rice to and she enjoyed it very much. Banana fritters very good and it's so cheap £6 for a three course lunch can't complain definitely be back.

Might be the best in Dumfries but will NEVER use it again. Shame really as have used this restaurant for over 30 years.Ordered over the phone was told 40 mins, called 1 hour after order to be told my food wasn’t cooked yet and was told another 15-20 mins. Only a simple sorry was given as it was no problem.Called back cancelled order and was told thanks.As I said it is the best in town but a small/tiny matter like this will make me never use it again.

Regular customer to this Chinese, we usually do take away but have sat in a few times. The food is always fresh, tasty and burning hot so what more could you ask for? Recommend - beef chow mein, chicken Cantonese and Peking beef

A very varied Menu, as to be expected from the Chinese and the food was served in more than ample portions to satisfy any appertite. The Restaurant itself was brightly decorated, spotless and the Service second to none.

Pedimos un chino en el lunes de Pascua en la 5. 30:00 h. Nos informaron que podría tomar hasta 1 1 / 2 horas para la entrega, lo que estaba bien. Esperamos el tiempo asignado y no entrega. Me puse en contacto con el chino de nuevo y me arrepiento, pero habían sido ocupados, pero estarían fuera a menos de 20 minutos. Por 30 minutos, todavía no había sido entregado. Me comuniqué y me dijeron que sólo algunas partes de la comida estaba preparada y sería otra de 30 - 45 minutos. En este punto yo estaba loco como era de 730. Les dije que no estaba dispuesto a esperar, y dijo que estaba bien y cancelaron mi pedido. Estoy muy decepcionado de ellos.

Fuimos a Nueva Dragon el sábado 1 de abril. No tan temprano. Atendido rápidamente por personal amable. Menú enorme. Nos quedamos con los rollitos de primavera. Se puede recomendar el cantonés (3)

Had a lovely 3 course meal last night ,ribs for starter ,prawns for main ,Irish coffees were amazing to .All in all will defo recommend to anyone .friendly funny staff with good sense of humour .Will defo be back soon .

Today for lunch I visited The New Dragon located at 91 English Street Dumfries with my gran and had a really delicious Chinese lunch which consisted of prawn cocktail followed by Chicken sate served with fried rice washed down with Appletise all of which was absolutely delicious. Other reasons for liking this restaurant are that the place is clean, the staff are friendly especially our waiter today who was really chatty and friendly and the welcome is warm.

Food is always good whether you sit in or take out. If you get a take out or delivery they will let ou know how long you will have to wait especially when it is busy.

This was the place I used to always come for a meal out when I lived in Scotland. I now live away and recently I have came back home for Christmas and decided to have a meal here like old times!The menu hasn't changed at all (thank god)! They still have the best chicken sate sticks and crisp chicken with sate sauce that I have ever tasted!Staff are attentive and friendly and I still remember them from my last visit 4 years ago.I am so pleased this place hasn't changed. It is still my favourite!

We tried this takeaway for the first time last night.Menu had enough choice & prices ok.The staff were helpfull & polite, Whilst waiting for our food we go to listen to phone order's being taken.The staff were always polite.Our food arrived within reasonable time.Took it home to eat. Was certainly still hot.Spring roll very nice & not greasy like other resturants. The BBQ ribs were dry ( not covered in sauce) as advised & were nice too.Our main courses were full of the meats & prawns, more than other takeaways.Meals were tasty & pleasant. We'll be happy to go back.

The New Dragon-DumfriesThis used to be one of the best Chinese restaurants in Dumfries. Over the last 2-3 years it has got steadily worse.However today I can honestly say this was the worst dining experience I have ever experienced anywhere. I was dining with two friends and during our main course the waitress asked my friend if our meals were OK. He replied that his was and as I was about to comment on how tasteless mine was off she ran.Anyway, I ate about half the meal and when the dishes were cleared I commented about the tasteless & bland meal. The waitress said she would pass the message on and said someone would come out to speak to us. A few minutes later a larger young lady wearing an apron came out and upon my saying what the problem was, was given the response in an incredibly aggressive manner that I should of complained during our meal (I tried) and that I had ate half of it. And continued to be loud and frankly rude in a dining room with other customers in it. Someone wants to tell her that she can behave like Gordon Ramsey when she has the culinary skills to match.With that I said I'd rather speak to the owner given her attitude to which she replied 'I am not giving you attitude'. I left my table to speak to the owner who quite rightly told her to go back to the kitchen. However she still stood around giving it large about how I ate half the meal and she would go into the restaurant to get other diners to say she wasn't aggressive. Unsurprisingly she didn't find any of the other diners willing to stand up for her. I couldn't believe she even had the nerve to ask.The final icing on the cake was the owners lack of customer service. After that display by her employee I'd of at the very least not charged for the unsatisfactory meal. Absolutely disgusting customer service and food. The owner should look at some of the review sites and recent posts.

We last ate at this restaurant 5 years ago and it was a lot different as is a lot better then. We started with chicken and sweetcorn soup which was so hot by the time it cooled it had lost its taste - seemed like it had been reheated in a microwave too long. Then we had ribs which were actually nice and tender (only good part of the meal). I had crispy chicken and hubby had a beef dish. Both dishes were not good - again seemed to have been reheated in a microwave. My crispy chicken was a bit soggy.There were quite a few tables empty but the reception area was packed with people wanting take outs. So the service in the restaurant suffered. They should either concentrate on the restaurant or take out - didn't work doing both. We felt that the service was lacking and all the waitress did was apologies because she said she was rushed off her feet. We saw a couple of times the owner come into the restaurant look at certain tables and then look at her watch - we couldn't wait to get out and won't be returning. I believe there is another Chinese around the corner that is far superior (so we were told)

Visited here with my family. Decor is past dated. Paper table cloth and napkins. Wallpaper starting to come off. 4 starters ordered, 2 came, then after those were eaten the other 2 came. A special curry was ordered, not sure what was special about it, just tasted like an ordinary curry. Ordered a lager tops, got just lager. The two waitresses must have been new, didn't have a clue regarding waitressing. Glad I picked here to eat on one of my rare Saturdays off!(not). Definitely would not recommend to sit in and eat here.

Great family run restaurant with excellent chef. Good lunch deals, they are happy to mix and match lunch and main menus...if you want hot & sour soup for example

Get a takeaway very often from New Dragon and the food is always agood an the service is friendly efficient and helpful. We will continue to return and on special occasions sit in aswell

First time here The staff are really friendly The portion size are massive from the set menu. Cheap as well Will come again

Went for the usual Chinese Saturday lunch, just delicious. Huge portion, great service, good prices, SO tasty!The restaurant was cold though, that's my only complaint. It was June, warm outside but cold in the restaurant because there's no sunlight able to get in. But don't let that put you off - wear a hoodie and go for lunch!

Went into New Dragon for our evening meal, friendly staff, and very good service. Not a top of the range restaurant by any means but regardless very good food, The hot and sour soup is just a wow. Also had crispy beef, very good and enough of it . A fairly busy place , and they had a large group of 12 people , a good sign. Will apy a visit again on my next visit. Went for lunch with my friend and her 2 year old daughter , absolutely terrible service the waitress was rude and could barley speak English. When we ordered 2 chicken noodle soups they brought out what I can only describe as stale 'rolls' if you can even call them that they were tiny and also still joined together! My friends daughter had a spring roll for starter but was given to cutlery to eat it with! My last visit wasent much better I received an uncooked pineapple fritter and to apologise they took £1 off the bill! Terrible will not be back!!!!

Always enjoy a great takeaway from here. The meal to share is a family favourite. We like a selection of hot spice and flavoured spice...good for both tastes here.

As we went on a Wednesday it was not too busy but the food and service were excellent. Centrally located near to our hotel and the centre of Dumfries.

Visited last week after wandering around the town centre looking for somewhere that took our fancy. We ended up at the last place and thought we would give it a go. We dined on the set menu and the food was good, portions defeated us !!

Avoid this Chinese at all costs. Ate here for our Christmas night out and I was sick about an hour after leaving. The food is rank and service not much better!

Have not had a bad meal here yet. Lunchtime menu is super value. Restaurant a bit dated and tired could do with a makeover. Service and food excellent

We finally settled on this place which looks a bit dated but you get plenty of nice tasty food and friendly service.

I have been visiting this restaurant for over 10 years now and I can't think of one bad meal. The same remains true today, friendly staff and the best Chicken Curry in Scotland, seriously.

Had the set lunch and was pleasantly surprised. There was plenty to eat and at a reasonable price. Chicken and nsweetcorn soup good. Satay beef excellent. Chop suey OK. Spring roll greasy. Drinks excellent. Cleanliness very good. Surroundings could be better. Staff very efficient. Overall though worth the money and will go back.

Very small resaturant, around 10 tables, very friendly staff, good menu knowledge.All meals cooked to order, so waiting staff keep you up to date with how long your food will be when it's busy & drinks very reasonable priced.

The customer service is always very good on the many visits we have had. The choice on the menu is also very good and the meals are presented well when you are sitting in the restaurant.We also choose to use the takeaway menu very often and it is great value for money. The portions sizes are good which makes it great when ordering for a large group.The food tastes great, i love to sit in the restaurant as myself and my partner really enjoy the atmosphere.Highly recommended

We attended this Restaurant on Saturday 23rd August. If you want insulted and treated very badly this is certainly the restaurant for you. Having been asked if we enjoyed the meal and responding that we weren't particularly happy with it we were treated appallingly. Food reasonably poor staff totally disrespectful. Thankfully I will never return.

I have visited this Chinese many times, always have at least one meal there every visit to Dumfries. I am very fond of Hot and Sour soup which is just great in this restaurant, i also had crispy chicken this time , also very good along with boiled rice, A great portion, i always mange to finish it but with a struggle, they also do a meal deal on a Thursday nightwhich includes a sweet , i had to pass on this , i could not eat anymore but what i had,, terrific. Restaurant , not quite typical but good enough and staff very friendly. See you agin New Dragon. Thanks Lex

We visited here in July for dinner midweek so it was quiet. I had the special chow mein, my friend chicken & mushroom with boiled rice & a bottle of wine. My chow mein simply was awful. A plate of noodles with what appeared to be Asda value chicken slices, barely defrosted prawns & overcooked beef pieces smothered in gravy. As my friend commented it looks like Sunday lunch with noodles. Not only did it look awful it tasted terrible. As there was no 'food check' we didn't have an opportunity to return it, but to be honest I wouldn't chance anything to eat here. My friend said hers was edible but not great. To be fair the waitress was embarressed, and asked what I didn't like about the food which I told her the above, to which she said 'it is a popular dish here normally' 2mains + wine = £32 for the worse meal I have ever barely eaten ( I had 3 mouthfuls)

Stumbled upon this place late in the evening, nowhere else near my hotel still serving food. It doesn't look like much from the outside but don't let that put you off. The dining room is tastefully decorated and the staff friendly and welcoming. The menu offered the usual favourites plus a few dishes I hadn't seen before. I ordered Peking hot and sour soup which was delicious and very reasonably priced, followed by a fried beef dish whose name I can't remember. It came out on a sizzling platter with a light and flavoursome slightly spicy sauce, like nothing I have tasted before. I used to eat a lot of Chinese food but got bored of the same old dishes in gloopy sauces but this meal has restored my faith. I would thoroughly recommend this restaurant for its excellent food, along with ambience, staff, generous portions and reasonable prices.

I used to be a regular customer at the new Dragon however was very disappointed and wont be going back. I had some family coming round to celebrate a birthday the other night and thought it would be a good idea to order in a Chinese and I suggested the New Dragon as I used it on a regular basis. we decided to go for the meal for 4 and then add on a few other dishes. There was a couple of things on the meal for 4 that we were wanting to change for other dishes that were the same price and I was amazed and very disappointed to hear that they wanted me to pay an extra 50p per dish that I wanted to change even though the dishes were the same price on the menu. The staffs attitude absolutely stank and they had a very "couldn't care less take it or leave it attitude" which was bordering on the downright rude. I eventually told them to forget my order which totalled over £50.00 and ordered my meal from Canton Express on St Michaels street. They were great and very helpful, the food choice was more varied and better quality and they could not have been more helpful. Shame on you New Dragon surely helping the customer should be your No1 priority. Pleased to say I will now place my regular order at Canton Express where they value there customers.

Very good food in this restaurant. Paid a visit with friends last weekend. I had the Hot and Sour vegetable Soup, its amazing followed byBeef in Hot sauce, not too hot but very good and full of flavour, what a super portion they serve so on a cold stormy night it was just what was needed. Will go back again on my next visit to Dumfries.

We attended with a party of 6. It was a quiet Friday night (Jan17th) and there was only another 6 in the restaurant, the table side service was brilliant and our drinks were swiftly out to us followed by the starters. The starters were amazing! I had the chicken and sweet corn soup, it was piping hot and tasted great. Everyone's starters were great which set the tone for the mains, not a compliant from one of us about the mains as the were all fantastic! We enjoyed our meal in here and if I am in the area again I will certainly be returning! Good prices for the quality of food! A must :)
