The Neighbourhood in County Durham

Following our mid-afternoon arrival and check-in at Durham’s Hotel Indigo, my wife and I had some time to kill before our room was ready so, feeling peckish, we decided to take advantage of what was on offer in the conveniently located Neighbourhood Coffee House and we were not disappointed. Notwithstanding the delicious and satisfying homemade pie of the day and excellent coffee on offer, the service we received from Harper, the young employee on counter duty at the time, was exemplary in every respect. Her welcoming manner and friendly efficiency put our three day break on the best of footings and she deserves every plaudit that doubtless comes her way.

Went here to meet with a group of walkers before we headed out. The service was superb the staff are incredibly friendly and attentive and made time to have a conversation with all of us. I had a black coffee and this was just perfect, strong enough to keep me going for the full day and of a very good quality. I would thoroughly recommend anyone visiting Durham to swerve the big brand chains that are dotted about the city and give the team at the Neighbourhood a visit I promise it's worth it

This place is great and why we go every Saturday morning when we are out walking and again on a Monday when we are free! The latte is the best around, the food is wonderful and all the staff are brilliant. We have never had a bad experience. And if you have a blue light card, there is a 10% discount!!! Absolutely superb! Thank you everyone at The Neighbourhood, you deserve an award!!

I'm really glad to have taken a punt and tried out The Neighborhood. It's become a regular haunt when I'm in town. Nothing is an afterthought. It's like they've imagined their own perfect coffee shop and done everything they can to make it happen. Phil and his team can be very proud of their success so far, and judging by the reviews I'm not the only one who thinks so. But if you haven't been in yet... You'll walk in and get a great first impression. It's such a bright, clean and spacious environment. Then you'll get a warm and genuine welcome from Phil and his dedicated team, who clearly love what they do and want you to have the best experience every time. If you take a four-legged friend they will be included too. They're not just dog-friendly, they're dog lovers. Take a look at the Paparazzi wall to see a few of the many four-legged regulars. If you're looking for breakfast, lunch or something sweet and indulgent then you'll be spoiled for choice. Their breakfast and lunch offerings always hit the spot and I'll be back soon very soon for a pre-walk breakfast wrap. The coffee, courtesy of local and ethically sourced roasters Fika, is always superb. Next time I'm in I will be sure to buy another bag to take home. Finally, they're really working hard to be a community-conscious business. Their support for Man Up Durham - a brand new wellbeing initiative in the area - has been particularly generous and wholehearted. Well done everyone!

Took my brother and sister in law on first week of December 2023, they are visiting North East for a week. We stopped here for coffee before heading up to Gala Theatre to watch a show. Ordered chicken wing and served by Eni. She was very chatty and bubbly. After she served our drinks and snack Eni keep coming over to our table to make sure we all are catered for. Would really recommend this cafe, friendly faces and lots of space / seats to chill out. Thank you Eni, we will come back again.

Visited the coffee shop with my family. The kids love the lemon drizzle cake me and my wife had the best coffee prepared by the lovely Eni, she was very kind and she was looking out for me because Im lactose intolerant and she offered me a variety of plant based options. Very nice place, we loved it and we will come back for sure.

My kids and I frequently visit here. The cakes are always so fresh and tasty. Particularly memorable with the little ones! The batista that served us was Sarah and she is always a delight. We had a wonderful overnight stay recently, we decided to have a coffee & cake in the coffee shop. What fabulous service, the young lady who served us was called Sarah, her customer service was second to none, she was so accommodating. We will definitely pop in the next time we’re in Durham. Visited your shop recently with my family. Eni's warm hospitality towards our daughter and patient menu explanations made our experience delightful. The service was not only quick but also efficient, and discovering that I could apply my student discount was an added bonus!

Went for a coffee after christmas shopping. It’s a lovely place especially the Lady called Eni, who was very friendly and helpful with my baby. We’ll definitely going back.

Had my lunch here with my wife and the food and service was fantastic! I asked for a slight change to my meal and nothing was an issue for Eni, who made us feel very welcome and was prompt taking our orders. Then we had the cakes for dessert and they were tremendous! Will be returning again soon.

I went to visit friends & had a tour around Durham & I found this gem to have a coffee and cake. The service was kind and fast, they explained me so clear somethings about the rest of the menu. My order arrived really fast , ENI was so hospitable (I felt so special). Definitely I will come back. Highly recommended!!!
