Regrettably this establishment has significantly slipped in its standards since Redcat took over the management from its previously family-owned business. I have stayed regularly - previously very well run and efficient. Now there is no managerial oversight to ensure efficiency and hospitality. Examples: last two occasions that I stayed - staff could not get coffee machine working for breakfast - water or juice only - if machine is not working or waiting for parts, why not have kettle/instant coffee? (suitable apologies from staff; pre-ordered cooked breakfasts not ready at the requested time - evening team did not hand over to morning team (again apologies from staff); archaic payment system for paying for B&B stay (manual input of long card number into laptop - why not use the card machine that's used for paying for drinks/meals?).

I popped in for a quick bite prior to planning a family dinner. With total honesty, there were five cars in the car park including my own. I believe there were a few folk in a wigwam outside..., honestly a wigwam..., arrh bless..., little bit dated nowadays. Ten years ago I guess it was a bit of a trend. I was astonished to find the place absolutely empty and staff sat around, even one sat on the floor..., truly! In typical poor British customer service, not so much as a good evening, how are you but then what can you expect from the younger generation other than a dumb 'dunno'. Instead a question fired from whom I presume a person in authority..., are you staying with us? You tell me! I explained my status to which a reply swiftly followed..., we're full tonight..., honestly, there was not a person in there. Even if the place was full I would never turn away one man for dinner who would probably take no more than thirty mins to check the place out. The choice not to bring the family here has been established. As I was walking out they even had the audacity to say I can stay and have a drink at the bar. Gee thanks but no thanks. Gosh, standards in this country are appalling. What has happened I ask. I don't see much of an alternative than to leave my dear old England to the do-gooders, immigrants and leftwing loonies whilst committing oneself to bluer skies. Sad!

Hadn't been here for a few months and noticed that it's now part of a chain (maybe it always was?) which for some reason I wasn't sure about... but I needn't have worried. The food was really very good. Haddock and chips obviously not a super exciting choice but was very nicely done, great fresh-tasting fish in light crispy batter. The venison was absolutely perfect, tender and full of flavour served alongside a pommes anna which isn't often delivered as well as this. Spiced apple crumble exactly as you'd expect, and none the worse for that. All in all, much better than you might expect from 'pub' food. Also, the service was superb - really efficient and professional, warm and friendly at the same time. We had interaction with three wait staff and every one was great. They're a very young team but as good as you'll find anywhere. So, I highly recommend.

This is an amazing cosy pub in Walthamstow. Not as expensive as the other place in the village and a genuinely warm and friendly atmosphere. If you are someone with an open mind and enjoy a good banter, then this is the right spot for you.

The Nag’s Head could not have been more perfect for our wedding reception. They hosted us and 40 other guests in the Tipee 3 days before Christmas and it was magical. We simply left all our decorations there with a plan for each table and when we walked in as man and wife, it was even more glorious than we had imagined. The team were outstanding. The food was exceptional and was prepared by one of the finest chefs we’ve ever deal with, Jack. His attention to detail, his professionalism and mastery of skill was just outstanding and every single guest at our reception is still talking about how special the food was. It made our day even more perfect than we could have imagined and we cannot recommend this venue any more.

The menu featured the strong flavours of red meat, beef and venison, and mussels. As vegetarians we did not have high expectations of the veggie option. We were so wrong! The roasted celeriac, pearl barley and hazelnut main was a powerhouse of earthy, delicious flavours. We had a glass of shiraz and a a glass of sauvignon blanc, which both complemented the main perfectly in their different ways. The apple and plum crumble was freshly cooked and a generous portion. Worth the wait! There are clever details in the food, too, such as the nutty-flavoured cooked butter served with the bread. Staff were all lovely and it's clear that the chefs have skills which can go well beyond grilled steaks and burgers.

I felt compelled to write a review after reading some of the very negative ones below. I obviously can’t speak for anyone else’s experience but we had dinner here last night with some friends. It was the first time I’d been in about 3 years - I used to go very often. It was quiet for a Friday night I thought, and the carpet is truly awful. That’s about where my negative comments end! The staff were absolutely lovely, so friendly and attentive, we even met the chef who was genuinely interested in our experiences. The food was delicious! Definitely a cut above your average pub food - yes it’s pricey - but it really was good. The little ‘nibbles’ were a real joy - the pork belly in hoisin sauce with homemade pickles was honestly the best thing I’d eaten in ages! The fish was exceptional the steak was cooked absolutely perfectly and was brilliant quality. We had delicious wine which was a very reasonable price. The deserts were also yummy. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it as a place for a lovely meal. The toilets were also lovely and very clean and with lovely toiletries - just little tokens of care that show someone is thinking about the experience.

Really good food. We visited as a family of 4. We all really enjoyed our food. The Sunday roasts were extremely good and the cauliflower side dish was delicious. We’d booked at 1.30pm, think if you do visit booking is advisable. Limited spaces and busy. Service was a bit slow but you could see the servers were working really hard. I think better planing and upping staffing would definitely help especially at the prices, but it did not take away from an amazing Sunday roast.

Food was excellent as always so compliments to the chef . However service let it down. We had to keep asking to order drinks and we wanted wine with the main course and i had to go up to someone eventually as we had waited some time for it . The lady I spoke to was a bit rude and said they only had one and she was trying to find it . This is a beautiful pub but think the staff need to come across as less stressed on busy periods and clear the empty glasses from tables more frequently as they didn’t do it until the end of the meal so was a little cluttered .

Great local pub by my sister's place. First time I came here, I'd accidentally walked in on a big cat funeral for the pub cat, which sums the place up quite well really. One of the best things about the Nags is the landlady Flossy. She plays the records on vinyl and doesn't take any nonsense which is very entertaining. She even had a go at a guy trying to pull a stunt outside and steal my brother in laws phone- chased him away. Good selection of booze, I can see why it's a favourite.

Cost of living crisis and a Friday night treat ends up costing £250 for what was a mediocre meal and service at a stretch… bland starters, followed by bland mains, especially roast duck in what was essentially tasteless water… steer clear. Service was less than...

I stayed here for two nights with a group of friends. The inn is really characterful and charming with a fun teepee in the garden. Staff were nice and friendly. We only ate breakfast which was pretty good. I didn’t care for the sausage as...

We have visited this local pub for many years but not for a while for obvious reasonsWent for lunch today & ordered some squid & some tempura prawns. The squid was fine with a good spicy sauce but the prawns……well they were not tempura but a very thick batter & more like shrimp than prawn! Really poor qualityAnyway we mentioned our disappointment to the waitress who said she would talk to the manager……result nothing nada Not interested in our complaint. So no problem……plenty of other options but if they continue to serve poor quality food and ignore customers they will not survive very long

I was thoroughly disappointed when I found hair in my soup. I pointed it out to tje waiter but totally ignored me. I am not one for compensation but an apology would have been suffice. The waitress just ignored what I said as it could have been worse than just a hair. It was her attitute that wS most concerning. I live in Amersham and always take my children and grand children there. I will not go ever againor recommend to anyone.
