We were here from the US, and after visiting Hampton Court Palace we walk across the street to the Mute Swan. Immediately upon entering I knew we had found a great place for dinner, and we were not disappointed. We went upstairs to the dining room where we encountered some of the friendliest staff that made us feel extremely welcome. I won't go into the details about the food other than to say it was also exceptional. Thank you Mute Swan for the perfect ending to our trip to the UK.

Absolutely terrible experience here today, came in a large group, after arriving no one came to our table for 10-15 minutes so we assumed that there was no table service and ordered from the bar, some of the food then arrived after 30-35 minutes with the rest arriving an additional 10 minutes after that. Start to finish we were waiting almost an hour with no apology or offer of recompense, when the food did turn up it was extremely poor which given that the burger costs 16.95 was extremely disappointing (photo attached). We had also ordered water to the table that never turned up and we had no service during the meal, subsequently having to to make all drinks orders ourselves at the bar. After complaining multiple times one of the waiters not assigned to our table came up at the end and sarcastically said “do you want any dessert?” before walking off with a smirk. Seriously bad food, service and also even the beer was terrible, avoid.

Absolutely love the mute swan and I can't thank the staff there enough for making my birthday a special occasion...in particular the chefs and back of house team for the food they produced as well as the friendly and welcoming service. There was a young kitchen porter who went above & Beyond helping my elderly mother up the stairs whilst making her laugh deliriously for the first time in over 10 years. Thank you very much to that handsome young man for brightening both her day and mine!

The Mute Swan was very clean, the staff friendly and the menu comprehensive. We visited today for a special occasion and had a nice table by the window upstairs. My husband and sister who chose lamb and beef salad respectively were happy with their meals. However the Malaysian curry was very disappointing mainly due to the fact that it lacked most of the named ingredients and was not filling. The sauce was tasty, the rice pleasant, but there were only four tiny pieces of sweet potato and there was no aubergine, pak choi or spinach to speak of as advertised. The meal was definitely not up to the same standard as the other two meals. I did not complain at the time as i did not want to spoil a special occasion.

We drove an hour yesterday to have lunch here having read great reviews only to be sent packing because we had two children (not allowed inside) and could only sit outside on that basis, despite the fact it was pouring with rain!! The lady behind the bar was incredibly rude and unforgiving. Hospitality clearly wasnt her thing but there is a limit as to how you treat someone even if the rules are unusual. The hotel next door was delightful.

Not child friendly. Staff only focused on big tables with no kids. Food was good, no complaints. As I arrived with my family, they told us we couldn’t keep our push chair, and I thought it was fine as we would not be staying for long than an hour from ordering food to bill. When I ordered food, I told them to bring the kid food first, and I am glad I did, as my kid could eat first. The rest of my family ordered some nibbles and they held the rest of the main dishes for more than an hour (!!!!!). In that same hour my kid finished food and we kept trying to get the nibble dishes clear and then our mains on the table, but staff was all over the place and putting very little attention to our table. We needed to divide, and half of my family was getting their meals and late eating, while the rest was bringing the kid out and downstairs to recover our pushchair. Not an enjoyable meal. And definitely, not very helpful staff when they see you are doing all you can to keep things down and calm with a kid, and instead of accelerating the food and service they kept serving other tables. I have come before and it was a different experience, so definitely will not recommend to come with kids as you are not a priority and they will not help you.

We were excited to try this restaurant based on the amount of gluten free options. My husband and daughter are both GF. My daughter is also vegetarian. So it can be challenging to find a restaurant with options. We made a reservation for the upstairs dining room which is very warm and welcoming. Servers greeted us right away. We read that there was a dedicated Gluten free menu. However, we were told that the regular menu is marked accordingly and that they only have a general allergy menu. I inquired about the Vegetable Mezze Platter. I wanted to know what wasn't GF. The server didn't know and didn't offer to go check. I had to press her to find out since I was trying to find something for my daughter. Typically, only the bread and gyiza would have gluten. So I just wanted to make sure. Turns out that the hummus also has gluten. Which was very disappointing. I've never seen hummus have gluten. We ordered it anyway and they did put all gluten containing items on a separate plate, which was good. The platter was very large and pretty. But overall, just ok. Way too much pickled items. We would have enjoyed some fresh carrots or something without so much salt. I did personally enjoyed the hummus. Just wish my husband and daughter could have eaten it as well. For our main courses, my husband and step-daughter ordered the halibut. They both agreed that the fish was cooked well. The flavors were different but worked. No WOW factor. But said it was "good". I read reviews about the scallop starter and also the truffle fries. So I decided to order those instead of a meal. The scallop presentation was nice. They were cooked perfectly. I wanted to love them but I felt there was a sauce of topping that kept interfering...like too much pepper or something. I couldn't figure it out. Also, the fries were good. Not great. I wouldn't order either again. My GF/Veg daughter didn't have much to choose. The cheese, potatoes, onion pie was out because of the onions. We thought the hummus would be safe. So she inquired on the curry dish. She really shouldn't eat spicy foods with gastro issues. But she asked the server and was told that it's typically not spicy at all but very flavorful. She was very nervous about it but the server assured her it would be good. Well, that was bad advice. I sampled it and wow, that was way too hot. My daughter ate the rice and tried to eat the dish but it was intolerable. She ended up not feeling well the rest of the night. The other reason we chose The Mute. Swan was for their GF dessert options. But we were not impressed. The service and decor were very great. We really wanted to enjoy the food. But overall, we were underwhelmed. One other thing to note, there is very limited parking!!! We had to park across the bridge in the car park and walk in the rain.

You can’t have kids downstairs inside but you can upstairs but you have to order food as it’s a restaurant. We are locals to the Mute Swan and have been a number of times before, however, sadly our most recent visit was very disappointing and has left us not wanting to return again. When placing our order i asked if i could have a boiled egg on the side of my meal - it may seem an odd request, but the vegetarian meal i wanted to order had no protein in it. I was surprised to be told that was not possible - it’s not like i was asking to remove ingredients from the meal or to recreate me something else, solely to give me a boiled egg as a side dish… We then ordered the tomato pasta for my daughter. When it came the pasta had been so over cooked that it had disintegrated into little pieces and couldn’t even be forked up. It also tasted revolting. My husbands email meal was Cod with gnocchi, which was actually a piece of cod with just three small pieces of gnocchi…. If you order fish and chips, you wouldn’t expect to just get three chips would you? We called the manager over to discuss our concerns with the food and he disappeared to go and speak to the chef and said he would return. Well, he never came back. And no one else came to ask us if we were ok or if we wanted anything more. We eventually had to flag down the manager again to ask for the bill. He was not very apologetic for either the state of the food or the fact that we had just been left there waiting…. They took the pasta off our bill, but that was the extent of it.

Lovely little bistro opposite Hampton Court, nice food, I'd describe it as high quality pub grub. Somewhat pricey.

Toller Pub direkt am Eingang zu HCourt und bei den Booten. Englische Klassiker, super Qualität. Grosse Portionen. Gute Weine . Aufmerksamer Service und sehr gemütlich und schönes Ambiente . Sehr gutes PL Verhältnis. Unbedingt reservieren. War brechend voll am Samstag mittags.

This is a lovely place for lunch (and probably dinner!) The restaurant upstairs has a cosy feeling and intimate atmosphere. The food is tasty and the menu has a good selection of light bites and full plates (I can recommend the halloumi fries and bang bang cauliflower!) The service is always excellent with very friendly staff. I recently had a birthday lunch at The Mute Swan and am looking forward to my next visit.
