The Mulberry Tree in Stevenage

How lovely is this old pub, the beams the atmosphere, the fireplace… everything is SO pretty…..I could go on and on…We dined here last week, we’ve been here few times now, but never left a review before. So here goes.Absolutely lovely meal, the steak was perfect! (I’m a fussy eater). Staff friendly, couldn’t do enough for us. Observed another table having their Christmas meal, all laughing and jolly.I’d highly recommend you to visit this quaint, pretty pub in the heart of the Old Town ❤️

Nice warm inviting pub that accept dogs in the old town. Cant go wrong. Pleasant staff, nice festive decor, good prices on food and drinks. I had the chicken tray which went down a treat with me (and Leonard!) .. I’ll be back again soon. Thank you

Leah always makes us feel welcomed when we come down to the mulberry tree. The food is always tasty. Definitely my favourite place to go in the old town!

My family and I visited the Mulberry tree yesterday, to celebrate a birthday. Some members of the family had lunch there and the rest of us joined them for dinner.The food was amazing and the service was outstanding.We had a variety of starters, main course, and desserts, and each person really enjoyed what they had ordered.I personally want to thank Dan our waiter, and Alan the chef for making it a very enjoyable day/night.Well done everyone, we will be coming back.The Casey family.

Girls night out. The staff were so lovely as always, they are friendly and the service is fast despite how busy it was. Great music and selection of drinks. The door staff are much more approachable and the management team are out front doing everything and chatting to customers which is really lovely to see x

Visited last Saturday 13/11/21 for a old works reunion. I was really looking forward to catching up for a few drinks after such a long long time with old work colleagues and friends that funny enough all worked/still work in the hospitality industry some in management positions (including myself). So I will admit the night started off pleasantly when we arrived at the mulberrytree although with it being a Saturday night it was rather busy and the pub was bustling with people so we struggled to find a table to sit around so we had result to standing around a large table that was situated in the dance floor area, may I add that no one told us that we were not allowed to do this. So for about 45 minutes myself and my friends were all stood around this said table talking about old times and having a brilliant time reminiscing old memories working with each other until we hear a large bang come from behind us from a rather large and disgruntled man looking us up and down, we all turn around confused to be told "move all your drinks this table is now being used!". Myself and my party all look at each other confused as to who this person is as he wasn't in the usual grey t-shirt uniform that the staff members were wearing... I then reply saying "well that was a bit rude?" To which he replies "what do you mean?" I explained that "you could have just polite asked us to move from the table instead off slamming down what ever you have in your hand onto to the table and rudely telling us to move our drinks" he said "whatever I do and say is none of your f****** business bruv!" Shocked from the reaction I asked who this guy was to which he told me to "f*** off" and proceed to bad mouth me while I walked off and told him to watch his mouth. So I then decide to go to the bar and find a member of management to which a barmaid said that she would fetch her over and ran around what looked to be the whole pub to find her... while I waited I noticed that the man was setting up a load of DJ gear on the table to putting 2 and 2 together I assumed that he was their weekend DJ. Once I was approached by what I believe was the assistant manager (I believe her name was Kay?) I took her to the end of the bar to explained what happened with a friend that was part of my party for confirmation as the music and surrounding voices were rather loud, she explained that he was technically a 3rd member of staff hired externally to solely play the music for the pub over the weekends as one of their DJ's. In my opinion what difference does it really make? He works for you in your business so regardless of being external or internal he should still treat each customer with a bit of respect as all your internally hired staff? She explained that she would pass on the feedback to the general manager who was currently on his was back from a sister pub for some reason. After spending sometime near to the bar I was greeted by the GM (I think his name was Stephen?) Who apologised profusely and if I'm honest was the only one who seemed genuine about it, which is a shame that the other staff couldn't have the same amount of care... he explained that he would give myself and my party a round on the house to apologise and would have a word with him at the end of the night, whether this happened or not I do not know as we had left before the pub closed but I really do wish that at least a few words were exchanged... so after a few minutes after finishing the current drinks we had I popped to the bar to get this free round that as promised and the barmaid had no clue what I was one about... I had explained that I had an unpleasant encounter with the DJ and that the general and assistant manager was aware about it and that they had offered myself and my party a free drink each, again she still looked confused and unaware of this until the assistant manager came over and explained to her to just put everything through the till and on a tab and that she would comp it at the end of the night. So I explained what drinks I would like which were the following... two double Disaronnos and coke, two double Woodford reserves and coke, a double Hendricks gin and lemonade and a double Brockmans gin and tonic, so as each drink was being poured I was carrying/handing over two drinks at a time to then sit down and realise that we were short of one drink, again a bit of a pain of a situation due to having to wait behind a large crowd of people to then explain to the assistant manager that I was short by one drink from the bar maid that served me, she looked through the order as I guess she didn't believe me for some strange reason. She had asked which drink I did not receive to which I explained that it was a DOUBLE brockmans gin and tonic, she then grabbed a gin glass from the back bar filled it with ice and then poured a SINGLE and I just stood there and shook my head took the drink off her when she came over and went back to the table as I couldn't be bothered to explain that she didn't pour the requested double I had asked for. All in all the only thing good about the experience was the heart felt and genuine apology off of the general manager which I praise completely, everything else sort of dampened myself and my parties night. Working in the industry myself how hard things have been for us all due to covid and I understand that complaints come in regardless but the way that this was dealt was rather poorly if I'm honest, I've enjoyed many nights out in the mulberrytree in the past but I doubt I'll return until things change for the better.

Great experience overall! Barmaid leah provided me and my friends with an amazing fast and friendly service. I would 100% recommend for any occasion!

Great evening out for dinner with the mrs, tried the lasagne for the first time, blew my mind, thanks to chef rui for the food, and thank you to sasha and aidan for the great service, friendly from the moment we walked in!

Went for a meal with my family. There was so many options to choose from,food and drink wise. Staff were all so kind. We didn’t wait too long for our food and it was all delicious and well presented. Will defiantly return!

Went to the Mulberry Tree for a night out last weekend and we had such a great night! DJ Freedom played the best songs and we were dancing all night. The staff were so friendly and we were made to feel really welcome even though they were extremely busy. Thank you, we will be back

Came for dinner with a long term friend and her young daughter who is incredibly fussy. No swaps on the menu were too much trouble for the kitchen, the rest of our food came out lovely and hot and I would highly recommend the festive "hot cheese board".10/10 would recommend and compliments to the chef

Awesome atmosphere with lovely staff. Drinks are reasonably priced and food is really good! Massive selection of drinks including shelves of gin. Nice beer garden and dogs are welcome (with dog treats behind the bar) Highly recommended.

It was great, they had alcohol. 👍 It's what I came for and it's what I got. Leah served me, lass knows how to pour a drink. Nice and chatty, always a friendly face. Ta.

Recent visit at a lunchtime with friends was disappointing. The guy behind the bar had little or no customer skills, making us feel unwelcome. A number of food items that our table requested were unavailable; the guy seemed almost disinterested; and when I asked if we could start a tab and pay at the end please, he responded: “Well, if you’re SURE you’ll pay at the end”. Really? We weren’t even sitting outside! The bread for my sandwich was dry/stale , with no garnish, so it was a sorry looking lunch. I wouldn’t recommend it (apart from the young lady working there - she was good at her job and friendly but we didn’t see much of her).

Some of our band members went here last night (Wednesday 20th Oct) for food and a beer before 3 hrs rehersals. The food was 1st class and imaginative which was an extra treat and good on price too. Bar team were welcoming and friendly and the pub itself looks a pretty cool place to be. Big thanks to Karie and Alan who cooked up the lovely food. Bravo!

Dining alone and went for the fish and chips. Beautiful cod fillet that was much larger than expected. Thanks to Eden, Craige and Dan the chef.

Busy Saturday lunch and they were a member of staff down so only two people front of house. Was told food would be 45 as they had two tables of 10 in but came out in 20 and was banging! Veggie burger and the steak sandwich! 10/10!

Leah was our server for the evening. Whilst deciding what to drink she recommended the rhubarb spritz to me which was exactly what I was looking for in a beverage. Food came out really quickly Will definitely return.

I came in last night with my partner and 9 year old sister after attending the fair. They had a great selection of food for both adults and children and once ordered the food came very quickly and tasted amazing. The time we finished our mains the kitchen had closed but they were happy to reopen it and make us all deserts. We will definitely be coming back again.

Popped in for breakfast fast and excellent service food was amazing ( recommend the bubble n sqeauk ) good atmosphere the staff could not be more polite and helpful

Visited with some friends for some dinner and drinks. The mulberry tree is always looks like such a wonderful pub, and we weren’t disappointed. Food was great, thanks to Daniel and his wonderful cooking and service. And drink choice was amazing. I think it was Aiden that served us and was so friendly and helpful! Will be visiting again, the staff are clearly proud and happy to work there!

Was at a club around the corner from mulberry but did not enjoy it and found it to be very unsafe so me and my friend decided to leave and find somewhere else to go. I heard good things about mulberry tree from my friend so thought we would give it a go. The bouncers were lovely when we said we felt unsafe at the other place they said if we feel unsafe there at all to come and get them. The bar staff were amazing with quick service and the overall vibe was so chill and fun. Would definitely recommend for a night out with friends or a day with family.

Went for a late lunch today with my wife, great service, good food, and a nice ambience, made a change to have some nice background music, and the staff ar helpful and polite. Will return again.

Ended up here by chance and was pleasantly surprised by both the friendly welcome we received and the quality of the food. Excellent Sunday roast and a burger with dirty fries. The dog was also made to feel very welcome with some gravy bones and his own bowl of water. Prices were also very reasonable - will be coming back soon.

The Mulberry is a fantastic pub Craig, Sarah, Eden. Leah, nevana, Kelly, Emmy and everyone are so hospitable. The food is fantastic and the vibe is just what you want from a good old fashioned boozer! Would definitely recommend for food or a night out!

Nice place, pleasant environment really nice for friends or couples. Food could be improved: burger were good, as expected, while sides were either frozen or not well cooked. Better to serve burgers with no sides...

We booked the mulberry tree pub for a friend's leaving party. Everybody enjoyed it and we all taught that the food was good and the menu price was reasonable. Staff are friendly and approachable. We had our NHS discount added on to fun filled night!!!

We have been going to the mulberry tree every Wednesday. The staff are very friendly and helpful the food is lovely. The pub is also lovely, would recommend anyone to go there for an evening out.

Went here on a Saturday in June and the lady at the door said use the NHS App and we said my phone is so old we cannot and she said they do not use paper and pen for this so we left. Never had a problem here before but as the food was not good last time so no great loss as many better pubs in high street.

I met up with a friend to have a drink and a catch up.To order drinks you had to scan a QR code on the table but I was having trouble with this. I explained this to the manager and she was very sympathetic and helpful and took my order and it was brought over to my table.It was not massively busy on the day we were there and it was easy to stay socially distanced.The staff were all very friendly and professional.

My favourite place to go for some good food and drinks With their huge gin selection I didn’t know where to start , The staff there are always welcoming and friendly we had Leah as our server who was a great help for recommending drinks , the food was Amazing ! complements to the chef Dan , My partner had the untruly burger and dirty fries which looked yummy while I had the veggie tray with a great selection on their . Visited the pub to watch the football and have a couple of drinks. Aiden and Leah were very approachable and accommodating to make sure we had everything we needed. The pub manager Steve, very friendly guy also came and made sure we were happy as well. The service was excellent from start to finish. Amazing gin selection in the pub and a very good selection of beers on tap! Thanks for a accommodating us, i highly recommend this pub and we will certainly be returning here again!

My friend and I went here for lunch and Aiden was extremely helpful, he helped us order food on the app, very friendly and his customer service skills are 10/10.

The manager was so accommodating, helpful and inviting! Helped us out a lot, got us tables outside even though we couldn’t book there. Overall he went above and beyond and from that we’ll be coming back again. A great place, great service and great management.

A few friends fancied a post curry pint and managed to get a table at the Mulberry Tree. The front door staff were friendly while still ensuring we were covid safe. The bar staff were very attentive and friendly. Good selection of beers and whiskeys and all at reasonable prices. Overall good atmosphere and experience. Definitely the best pub on the Old Town High Street

Fast service via the app Sasha and Emmi where extremely helpful and very polite. The burgers were the best in old town I've had in ages. The prices are really good for the food and drink quality would of expected to be paying more.

The new menu is a lot a better now there is so much too choose from the new mac n cheese toasties was awesome my partner loved his burger. The staff that was on ( emmi and sasha) were very polite and helpful. The service although via the app was very quick.

My family and I decided to go out for a meal on Saturday night and booked a table at Prezzo (what a mistake that was) after waiting 25 mins for our drinks to arrive, and no one even mentioning taking a food order we decided to leave and found ourselves at this beautiful pub. We used the App and it was so easy and straight forward and the staff were lovely. Nothing was too much trouble, even when I asked if they sold Olives and was told they did sell mixed Olives. I am not a fan of black olives and mentioned this to the manager who then proceeded to ensure only the green olives were served to me. We all had food and it was amazing, their new menu is really good and will definitely be back to try some other bits. The meaty bag dirty fries are the best and can’t wait to go back. Just had a meal and drink and the food was wicked, the staff amazing and friendly as always and the surroundings cozy. It’s so sad not to see it at it’s best and bustling over Christmas but Steve, team and the door guys are trying to keep spirits up as much as they can with these insane rules and are taking care of everyone. I’m so sorry that such a good place normally is so restricted right now and really hope it returns soon with the good food and familiar faces we love to see x take care all! X

I ate here with my wife, the pub is dealing well with Covid, lots of space between tables disposable menu etc. The food is burgers and fish and chips etc but the portions were large and quality was good and teh food was piping hot. Sevice was profesional and i would happly eat here again

I had a meal here tonight with my children who are 5 and 2. There aren’t many places you can go to feed such young children but this was perfect. Such a warm welcome from the duty manager (sorry didn’t get your name) but the children loved the Christmas decorations and lights, great choice in children’s menu and I had a very reasonably priced bottle of Prosecco and meal. Atmosphere was warm and cosy with a beautiful fireplace and great service. Will definitely go again

On a girls night out and the team here are so so good. Really friendly. Steve with the tats on the door could not have been more lovely and accommodating, Aidan was also fab and Sarah and Steve. Just an amazing team every time we are in! COVID conscious so we feel safe. Thank you guys, you are the best!

We came in for my little boy’s birthday breakfast, we were greeted by a lovely girl Nevana who showed us to our table. We were served by Leah who went above and beyond for us, she made my little boy very happy! The food was absolutely amazing to, Thankyou to the chef Andrew this morning! We will definitely be back!!

These guys took time to re-open after Lockdown but they put quite a few measures in place for people to feel safe. We only came for drinks but it was again a great pub.

So after stops at 3 pubs in the old town we landed in here! We were welcomed at the door by a a female (kate I think!) who was welcoming and explained everything about the change abs how to order. We were offered to use to app or table service which we choose to take. We were served by Emmi - who was extremely attentive. The pub feels welcoming, and really gives you a reassuring feel about protecting you as much as possible. There was even a guy going round cleaning everything constantly! All tables havs signs on saying their clean, and I must say where cleared really quickly & cleaned. Would 100% recommend, after being in 3 different pubs this one definitely stood out. Great job guys

We went out Saturday night with my partners mum and dad for a few drinks. We rang a few days before and booked a table due to the new restrictions. They were following all new Covid rules and we had table service (by a lovely young girl named Eden, just wanted to give her a special mention!). Everyone was following the rules with wearing face coverings, toilets were one in, one out with a special sign on the door ‘engaged or vacant’ - don’t know how well this would work after too many drinks Nice evening!

Me and my other half came here for a breakfast. We both ordered a full English which was delicious. You get 2 sausages, 2 pieces of bacon, egg (get offered scramble, fried egg or pouch) beans, mushroom and tomato. We also ordered a mocha and it was the best one i have ever had. We were greeted by sarah, very friendly. And served by kelly who was very friendly as well.

A welcome return, the White Lion "Mulberry Tree" opening at 10am again to serve their marvellous full English, sets you up good and proper for the day.

I came here for my birthday and the food here was absolutely delicious. I could not have been happier with the service we received.I would highly recommend the nachos, fish and chips and Korean chicken burger. The chips and onion rings were without a doubt the best I've ever had in a restaurant.Can't wait to introduce this place to others!

Greeted by a member of staff who explained how things worked re covid etc.seating area was clean and comfortabledrinks choice was very variedmenu was well set out with various choiceschicken platter to start that was huge lots of different choices all very nice and hotwe had varied meals off the main menu and all were very nice and hot. The only one thing was the pie was very crusty so was difficult to cut and eat the pastry. But as far as taste and value for money it was very good.staff all very friendly helpful and well presented.overall a very nice experience will be back to visit soon.
