The Mount Pleasant in Sefton

We took a party of just under forty of our Southport Friendship Group there for lunch today. Food was perfect, as were the staff. As usual, I spoke to everybody, and every one of the group enjoyed the day. We were greeted more like old friends than customers as we arrived, and our people (Mostly elderly) were well looked after.

We have been in a few times now and I can only continue to praise the Mount. They can be extremely busy or quiet regardless we are greeted with a friendly smile, all the staff are friendly, approachable and polite. The menu is varied and suitable for any palate. We have several meals here now and every meal has been presented beautifully, full of flavour, hot and enjoyable (thanks for the extra touches Peter). Impromptu Sunday dinner with my sister; great atmosphere, wonderful service and delicious fresh, hot, roast beef dinner. Thankyou so much, looking forward to next visit.

Disgusting behaviour from manger, bar staff member (apparently the mangers mother) and chef. Told ahead of time about a teenage member of family being diabetic. Yet, having first getting the order wrong and the bar staff member laughing and scoffing when explaining why we need the dinner weighing out, and why my daughter would like cheese on her chips (yes strange behaviour). The chef refused to help and sent a floor staff member out with the dinner and weighing scales. While other people were eating, other family members eating and in the middle of the restaurant. Would have been happy to help if asked, However, the way it was handled was shocking. They had plenty of opportunity to say we don’t know how to do this can you assist. We, naturally ask to talk to the manger. She came over and some were still eating including myself who wanted to talk with her. She came to the table and I asked if I could come find her in a minute as I was still eating, she would not agree, was beyond rude and confrontational. I ended up leaving having not even finished my dinner as was not lowering myself to this strange behaviour or sticking around. Other people left, it then took another family member 30 minutes before being thrown £40 back (were 12 of us). This was all done in front of other people eating. Everyone was stressed, had either, not eaten, not finished or it had gone cold. The manager blamed the floor staff, all very polite and friendly (guys get out of there, you’re worth more!).

my friend and i go nearly every week the food is great the service is wonderful staff are so friendly nothing is to much trouble they also do meals for the smaller appetite which for us is great and they do an amazing eton mess can really recomend the mount pleasant, manchester road, southport

Large group of us were here which must be a logistical nightmare but the kitchen and staff did really well. We had all pre chosen and it came out hot and tasty. There were a couple small hiccups but I’d say it was generally very good. Bar prices for drinks were very reasonable. Not been for years but will definitely be on my radar now.

Absolutely disgraceful. The manager walked into the room we were in and unplugged my little boys iPod touch and said pay a pound to charge it or your not allowed too.We got a pound out and I asked my son to go and put a quid in the box where you put the money and he didn’t know where to go, so I said I’ll go in a minute and about 20 seconds after he’d unplugged it, he walked in and shouted across the room that we were in and over people that were eating, he shouted “you gonna put it in or not ?!”. Bearing in mind this was before we could decide what we were even going to eat. Never returning unless that manager leaves,or he learns a bit of respect.

Booked a few days away near here, and was searching for somewhere local to watch live football on a large screen and have a family meal at same time, messaged a few places, these was the one whom impressed me most and said would reserve us a good table. When we arrived we could not believe how many televisions there was around the pub and the area we was in had a massive tv projector screen. Had a very happy husband, daughter and son-in-law. Lovely friendly staff who made you feel more than welcome with a very friendly atmosphere, ordered food which arrived in super quick time and was probably one of our best meals out we have had, if you are wanting amazingly good home cooked food at a really good price, just good honest non posh food this is the place to go. Everyone was so friendly with a real local feel about it, with all ages of people from a group of older people knitting in one area, family's eating, then also younger people just having a couple of drinks while watching live sport. Just everyone having a good time together, did not feel uncomfortable or unwelcome at all. Went in again just for tea a couple of days later before we came home, and had the most amazing gamon and fries, and best curry ever said so-in-law. When we come this way again will definitely come back. Big thankyou for the amazing staff.

We had my wife's 40th their last night and as always the team were amazing . The lounge function room was brilliant and the staff from run up and onwards were fantastic ❤️ we tailored our buffet slightly which again went down brilliantly and everything was effortless 👏 highly recommended and full praise to this venue it is and for as long as I remember the best pub in Southport

It's so nice to find a Pub that serves food, and not a Restaurant that serves Beer as so many "Pubs" have become, and the Mount does this extremely well, great staff, friendly service, and IMHO some of the best food in Southport for the money. We like it so much we eat here every Thursday.

I know that I have written his before, but 'The Mount' is a real pub serving real home cooked pub food at reasonable prices. The staff are always pleasant and helpful and a meal there is always enjoyable. It is the only place in which I order liver, knowing that I wont have to cut away any 'nasty' bits.

First time at the pub and we were really impressed. Lovely meal, good portions.Well cooke and hot. Beautiful apple crumble and custard. Friendly staff. We'll be back.

We took a party of 20 from our Southport Friendship group there for lunch today. Service was perfect, and everybody enjoyed the food. Most of the group suggested we return there soon. Thanks to all involved.

Proper pub grub. It’s an absolute bargain and the food is great. The menu is varied, from sandwiches to steak to curry and beyond. The staff are friendly and it’s always clean. They do a discounted menu during the day as well which looks like...

Lite bites , a good choice, freshly cooked and a reasonable portion for about £5. I am a pensioner so just the right size and a great price. Extensine menu for those wanting something more substantial.

Called here for lunch today.Most tables were reserved....always a good sign but we were found a table in the Conservatory. I had the lamb Sunday Lunch which was excellent...the lamb was so tender. Hubby had the chicken and ham pie which he really enjoyed. Finished...

Visted the Mount Pleasant recently on a lovely sunny afternoon for a quick lager. The weather was beautiful and we sat outside. After a quenching lager we decided to have a light bite. Fab menu, and hard to choose but we ended up having Nachos and Potato Chips in Skins mmmmmm delicious . We had a selection of sauce dips and the Nachos were fabulous with tons of melted cheese and jalapeños . Lovely welcome by the Landlady Jo, and staff lovely and get it just right in terms of being attentive but not overly so. Pub highly covid compliant which just makes you feel that little bit safer. Toilets immaculate which is always a selling point for me. Will be back Thankyou for a lovely afternoon.

The Mount Pleasant restaurant, was a pleasant suprise to find in Southport and well worth it with value.Paying for the food and drinks is somewhat different = you order you drinks then pay for them - you order you main course then pay for it and the same with dessert.It was so good, we went there twice.

We ate twice here during our holiday as it was so good.The prices are reasonable and the menu choice is excellent. The quality and presentation of the meals was first class and the service was very good.To be highly recommended.It's only a shame that we live in Manchester!

We booked here over bank holiday weekend as everywhere was fully booked My husband is unable to wear a mask due to ptsd being an army veteran it triggers his trauma, the landlady marched over to him so abrupt and rude shouting you need a mask he tried to explain but she stormed off and tutted saying this is ridiculous,He then hears to young men in the toilet taking what we can only assume cocaine After we finished our meal my daughter and I where finishing our drink the same landlady marched over to us and said you have to go table booked and they are here so drink up and go we wasn't told of any other booking when we booked or arrived it was extremely rude I understand places are busy but at least let customers know when they are booking and there is a way or spring things and approaching people! We couldn't fault the waitress looking after us she was extremely attentive and friendly if it wasn't for her we would have walked away after the first insult Food was ok standard pub food Woukdnt reccomend going here plenty of other places to go to.

My friend suggested here when we decided to go for lunch last week. I used to attend for the pub quizzes many moons ago, so agreed it’d be nice to try.I ordered the ‘All Day Brunch’ for £6.75 and was astounded at how amazing it look when it arrived! Two sausage, two bacon, two eggs, black pudding, mushrooms, and chips (and beans but I had it without). It was so hot and fresh, I was a little mindblown at how delicious it was for such a cheap price.It was enjoyed that much that I suggested it to my Dad 4/5 days later - I had the same again and my Dad had the Cod & Chips. Yet again, when it arrived, I couldn’t believe how good it looked! Super hot, fresh and clearly homemade. Dad didn’t say a word to me the whole time he was eating and said it was the best meal he’d had in an age.Cannot recommend enough

Just popped into one our favorite pubs in southport for food. Great as always, great value and the place is dressed for Christmas really well. Well done. Great pub!

Having not eaten at this long-standing, family-friendly, food-led pub for several years, my brother and I thought it time to re-visit The Mount for an early-evening meal.The building is attractive both inside & outside, with a beer garden at the front.With a friendly welcome and efficient service, this pub ticks many boxes.The menu is wide, tempting and well laid out, with discounted specials at certain times of the day/week.We both had the Mixed Grill, served with chips, peas, fried egg, onion rings and mushroom.And we traded up our chips for sweet potato fries.And the verdict: the meal was excellent and extremely enjoyable.Lamb chop, pork steak, sausage, gammon and rump steak - the meat items were all top quality, expertly cooked, moist, tender and tasty.The sweet potato fries were truly delicious and proved to be the perfect accompaniment.Whilst one of the most expensive items on the menu, in my opinion, this is THE best mixed grill served in any pub in Southport and comparatively good value for money.You order food & drinks at the bar, pay and your meal will be served to your table.It all worked very well and the management and service staff - both behind the bar and on the floor - were friendly, polite and professional, not to mention efficient.An enjoyable experience and we will be returning. Booked here because had seen and heard so many good reviews and thought right will give it a try on the Eat out to Help Out scheme and so booked over a week in advance because knew it was popular. Contact details were all taken and very friendly person and made you feel like you were going to enjoy this place even before going. We arrived and hand sanitizer on the wall at entrance, greeted by lovely lady who asked had we booked and said we had and gave name, she explained about the covid meaures of loss and markings on floor and how tables were spaced out and that we could order by queing at a safe distance at the end of the bar. I think you could also order at the table and pay if you wished as we saw an elderly couple do this and a group booking also do this. We had already had a look at the menu online and had decided to have the mixed grill. We ordered and paid and we despite it being very busy in there we didnt wait that long for our food to come. While we were waiting we saw a group leave and straight away the staff were on to clearing the tables and giving them a really good clean down and re- arranging to suit the next bookings that soon came in. So good cleaning of tables. The staff didnt have masks but they were very good with keeping their distance when serving. When our food came, I thought, wow, this is best mixed grill seen. 1 nice proper butcher sausage, a piece of gammon, a pork steak, a lamb chop, and steak cooked to your requirement and egg and onion rings and chips and mushroom and peas. You could of had alternatives to chips like jacket potato, mash, fries, sweet potato fries, salad. also you could alternatives to peas, could of had, beans or mushy peas and there might of been something else too but forget. Everything was cooked perfectly, I was particularly impressed with the lamb chop as it was delicious and tender and moist as was all the meat. I couldnt eat all mine but my hubby ate every bit of his and then finished off mine too! He kept saying later, I have never been so full after just one course, I said no wonder cos you had some of mine as well so really not just one course was it! Good table layout and great food and lovely staff. All fab. We definately will be back here to try other things on the menu.

Not eaten here for a long while, so came here for tea with a friend.We both had the mix grill, no starter or desert. It was filling and just right. It was hot and cooked perfect. The only thing I have to say was they could rest the meat/s on a seperate plate as had a lot off juices making the sweet potato fries a bit soggy. But if they did do that then no worries.Would eat here again. Thanks.

Visited here a few times since lockdown and haven’t been let down once. We’ve tried many different dishes such as scampi, mixed grill, chicken burger, steak baguette and all meals have been fantastic. Prices are very reasonable and the service is top knotch. Safety precautions are fantastic and I definitely think the Mount is Covid 19 compliant. Thank you to Joanne and team for always welcoming us and providing us with excellent service.

I visited with friends, I rang up in advance to book a table and the lady in the phone was so helpful and polite. When we arrived, we was greeted by a lovely lady who sat us down and gave us menus. We ordered at the bar and again a different lady was so helpful and friendly when we ordered our food and drinks. The food is amazing and the price is great. We was all really happy with our food. Couldn’t fault it. I would give this place more stars if I could. Highly recommended! I wish I got the ladies names, they were lovely! Thanks ladies! X

Well what can I say ? Amazing experience , took family for a meal and drinks . From the minute we went in to the minute we left felt like home , Amazing food , great price honouring the 50% off , home cooked quality . Covid secure precautions in place . Paper menus . Hand sanitisers, toilets immaculate ! Will be back most definitely

Decided to have a impromptu Roast dinner at this pub, we were welcomed by lovely friendly staff and although we hadn’t booked they were very accommodating. Social distances rules applied with use of hand sanitiser and tables well distanced, also had to fill in a quick track and trace form so if anyone in the pub on that day contracts covid can all be traced. The Roast Lamb dinner was beautiful and great price for the 2 course, lovely friendly family atmosphere and delicious food. Also very accommodating for children who came in as lots of space etc, would definitely return.

THE MOUNT IS OPEN HURRAY - 07 July 2020 lunchtime with my son and his girlfriend I had Steak and Ale Pie chips and peas, my son James 26 years old and always needing lots of food to fill him had mega mixed grill and his girlfriend Mollie had veggie option cheese and onion baguette sweet potato fries coleslaw and salad.Mixed grill had four different meats lamb, steak pork gammon, fries, onion rings, peas. James said his meal was amazing, plentiful and topped by a fine pint of lager, Mollie veggie had cheese and onion baguette, sweet potato fries, coleslaw and salad and ate the lot topped by a refreshing soft drink FABI had steak and ale pie, chips and peas FAB. Next table had fish, chips and peas and that was my second choice, maybe next timePlenty of hand sanitizers around the place, people shown to tables on arrivalWe were served by waitress Gabby, who was a little star. Tables spread out in accordance with Covid19 restrictions, and menus were paper, to be destroyed after our use which impressed me. Ordered fish and chips was asked if I wanted small or large. I ordered the large and was charged extra which I thought was ok as I would get a big bit of fish. When it came to the table is was less that 5 inches and over battered, also there was only 10 chips on the side. I asked the waitress if this was the large she came back to me and said it was. If that was the large then I'd hate to see the small. Won't be going back again. Service was also bad waited along time at the bar to be served.

Although the service was a bit slow the food was delicious. The fresh cod and sweet potato chips were cooked to perfection and the side of mushy peas to die for, just wish it had been a bigger bowl haha.We enjoyed so much that we went back the following week

I have reviewed the Mount Pleasant before , but I left out the Sunday dinner menu. The Sunday dinner at the Mount is first class the beef and the lamb are delicious and you can still have food from the rest of the manual where there's something for everyone. Very friendly atmosphere and plenty of room for large parties.

Beautiful meal for the price, good cheap pool table, friendly staff and just at the end they have a movie on, it was The Lion King (new). Will definitely come back just hope the service would be better than average. That is the only thing that needs improving sry x

We booked for Sunday lunch for my in laws golden wedding for a group of 19. Because we were a larger party we were asked to email our order prior. We sent an email Saturday am and called the pub to confirm our order had been received and they confirmed receipt. We all arrived approx 1pm as we were booked for 1.15pm. We approached the bar to place our order to be told there was no lasagnes left even though we had ordered 2 via email 24 hours earlier. The food arrived at 2pm 46 mins after the table was booked. They asked if everyone had as happy with their meal only to find out we where one meal short, they brought this out 20 minutes later a burger and chips. Two portions of adult chicken nougats and chips came out with fewer chips than one of the children’s portions but at least the bought out a fresh portion after we noted it to the waiter: The roast dinners did not come with mash but we did not ask if that was normal or if they had also ran out. Also 2 people could not eat their meat as it was too chewy. After eating the meal a few of us wanted a coffee so we could chat as this was a special family occasion only to be told the coffee machine was broken. We went to the bar to make a complaint to the manager after the meal to express our disappointment especially about the lasagne as we had pre ordered only to be told it was our fault for not putting in the order 48 hours prior to arrival: I have given 3 stars instead of one as they did refund the burger meal. Very disappointed with the attitude of the manger but the waiter was very courteous during the whole time we were at the table. If you are thinking of a Sunday roast I would advise you pay £1.00 more and go to Toby Carvery.

Haven't tried since it was refurbished,but was pleasantly surprised,great service and food,and not expensive,would recommend a try!!

I recently held my brothers wake at The Mount and I cannot fault Jo and her team, the food and the service was outstanding for 100+ people.

We nipped in one night for a quick bite to eat, the food was amazing, piping hot and came out really fast. It is really goo value for money, it is amazing to find a pub like this. We will definitely be back!

We went to the Mount last night for a bite to eat and a catch up. The food was delicious, the atmosphere relaxing and the staff friendly. The chef even came out to make sure the food was to our liking. Will definitely be going there again

We were tired after a busy day and needed some 'comfort food'. The Mount is a proper pub, without any pretensions, serving good food and drink at reasonable prices. The service was friendly and welcoming and we left feeling much better than when we went in! The liver & bacon and chilli were delicious.

Everyone in Southport knows or has been to the "Mount" at sometime. Lovely traditional pub with excellent food. The conservatory is popular and we had Sunday lunch there. All four of us went for the traditional sunday roast. The lamb was very tasty with roast potatoes, fresh veg, yorkshire pud and gravy. The same with the turkey (with stuffing) and brisket beef. They do three sizes so take your pick. Would recommend for a nice change.

Good service when ordering food and drinks. The steak and ale pie was delicious and hot. There was plenty of meat in the pie . The waitress was attentive and checked that the food was to our liking. Would recommend as a place to eat. Surroundings pleasant and bright

We go on most sundays for our sunday roast, have had our Christmas dinner there for the past few years. It is a lovely place with friendly staff and lovely food at a decent price. They go out of their way to accommodate my son who is wheelchair dependent. Have also used it for a dedication party and a 30th party. One of the nicest pubs around.

We booked The Mount for our Daughter's 18th Birthday party after a few people said how good it was. They weren't wrong. From our first visit to enquire about parties to the evening of the do the staff were excellent, nothing was too much trouble. Staff decorated and set up the conservatory for us. Chef did the buffet and it was absolutely fabulous, so much lovely food and such a variety, there was plenty for everyone's tastes and all for under £7 a head !! Excellent food, lovely surroundings in the conservatory, great bar prices and great staff. Thankyou all for such a lovely evening for our Daughter's party. We will definitely tell everyone to use The Mount for get togethers, Thanks.

I have not been to The Mount Pleasant for probably a couple of years but ...................wow! It most certainly will not be very long before I go back again.

Thank you so much to all the Staff at the Mount for accomodating our Christmas meal last evening. You were so welcoming and the service and food were equally amazing. This is one of the few remaining pubs that has a real traditional spirit, where workers from all professions and the pub of all ages sit or stand happily together. You are a credit to our Town!

Had a lovely tea time meal in here after watching the game, result didnt go our way but the place itself was wonderful.

Had Sunday lunch recently in The Mount Fab Home cooked food, good prices and high quality. Had crumble and custard for after gorgeous Food well cooked plentiful and quick. One of the big advantages to the Mount is the size with plenty of roomBig thank you to the staff, and especially Jo and Joan and Greg the Chef who is a superb cook, and occasionally comes out of his kitchen ha ha Will return soon.

My dad's favourite and after driving 280 miles to see him I was hoping to find somewhere decent to take him out to. We were not disappointed.

This is one of the best if not the best places to eat in Southport, the staff are great and the service is quick.

I was fortunate enough to win a meal for 2 at the Mount in a charity raffle at another venue so my husband and myself went to use our voucher. The staff were lovely and made us feel very welcome. The manager took time to congratulate me.The meals were lovely and served quickly. My husband really enjoyed his gammon steak and even said it was the best one he has had in Southport!! (believe me thats praise indeed as he is a fussy eater) My chicken dish was nicely presented and tasty. The portions were very generous . The voucher included a bottle of house wine which was acceptable if not the quality of wine I would normally have but hey ho it was free so it would have been rude not to drink it All in all a good evening .

Went in, decided to have the full gammon with some garlic bread, menu price £9, Bill £9.20, queried why the 20p difference, this would have to be referred to the manager, in the time it took to get the meal and eat it, still no answer as to why the 20p difference, mentioned it to the young lady serving, was told manager in office upstairs, 20p appeared on table, no explanation, or apology, I did not ask for the 20p, I queried the difference !! As for the meal, garlic bread, okay, not much taste of garlic, gammon, fine a bit too salty for me, but the kitchen can not be blamed for that gammon can be salty, jacket potato, excellent, the best jacket potato I have ever had, probably just a coincidence, but less than 2 hours later started with stomach pains and diarrhoea.

I went with friend to watch football and eat,the price and quality of food is excellent. Outside tables for these warm sunny days. A choice of lite bites or steak nights. A good selection of beers and wine very reasonable.

I go to this pub about once a month for something to eat and I am never let down on service, quality or price. The food is always served fresh and hot. The staff are friendly and the atmosphere is comfortable.

I went to 'The Mount@ with friends and also took along our daughter in law. We all had very clean plates at the end of our meals and staff were very pleasant indeed.

We were on our way home from a shopping trip, tired and hungry; should we eat in town? or have a takeout? or? Let's go to 'the Mount'! We hadn't been for a while as it is off the beaten track for us so we took the bus and walked in - and how pleased we were! The pub was warm and comfortable, the staff were friendly and welcoming and the food was great! Two 'man sized' mains and two drinks for less than £20 meant great value. My liver and bacon and my wife's chilli were both delicious and as close to home cooked as we can get outside of our kitchen. The Mount is not pretentious and does not pretend to be something it isn't, but for a warm welcome, great food and great value it is very hard to beat - highly recommended!

My wife ordered a burger, it came and she ate it. Enjoyed it, looked good. Beer decent too. Bit empty at 5pm but comfortable. Should have been a pleasant hour on way home from shopping. Unfortunately I ordered Steak & Ale pie with chips & peas. Chips & peas good, if frozen. "Steak & Ale" pie, quite frankly not good enough. First one wasn't even warm. Second remade one, not one single piece of beef. Gravy carrots onion & mushroom pie is a better description. Sent it back & didn't want another. Service was really good & friendly, even gave my wife a free coffee & refunded my pie without me asking. But I went home hungry & cooked myself egg on toast. Simply not good enough I'm afraid.

Decided to have a late Christmas eve drink with my husband,bar staff friendly,land lady was lovely,even stopped to chat considering they was setting table for Christmas day,wasn't very busy s wa nice to chill on the sofas

Really pleasant atmosphere for having a good time great service and food is great. There is a wide choice of beers. I would recommend a visit.

A real family pub, where everyone is made welcome. Sat in a nice cosy booth and had a early evening meal for 4 of us. Service spot on, staff fantastic, food very good and presented well. The cost very reasonable £73.00 for starters, main, puddings...

Haven't been able to go out for Sunday lunch for some months because of family problems. However, now we can and it is great to be back to the Mount for lunch at the weekends, and this week even managed a mid-week lunch there.

Had a very nice meal here for my 70th birthday I come here every Wednesday for the pub quiz they always give free chips and the staff are lovely

This is the second time we have had Sunday lunch here and it is delicious - desserts are lovely too. Staff very attentive and friendly - cannot fault anything and such good value. Put simply a gem in Southport.

We have been eating at the Mount on a weekly basis with various friends and family for the past 10 years and I can honestly say that we have never been served a bad meal. The food is excellent - fresh, home-cooked and served really quickly, even with fairly large parties. The sunday roast and sirloin steak are particularly good. The staff are invariably friendly, professional and welcoming - cannot praise highly enough and would strongly recommend a visit.

Early tea on a Friday, pub very quiet.Friendly welcome, good and quite varied menu but surprised to see no specials on blackboard - not sure if this is a permanent or temporary thing. Will be a loss if they've stopped doing them.Nevertheless, we thoroughly enjoyed our very substantial meals and at a very reasonable price - some other local pubs should take notice! Tasty hot meals served very quickly by pleasant and efficient staff.
