The Mossbrook in North East Derbyshire

This wasn’t our first visit to Mossbrook Inn. We were warmly welcomed by friendly staff members. The professional and prompt service only added to the overall cosy and relaxed atmosphere on which we enjoyed a lovely meal.

Mossbrook Inn is a cut above normal pub restaurants in terms of food and especially staff quality. Ellen was fantastic - efficient and personable. It makes all the difference to the experience when you have staff of that quality. Mossbrook is one of those places you know you'll keeping going back to.

Called the Mossbrook Inn for a Sunday lunch & wasn’t disappointed. I had the duo of beef & have to say it was the most tender & tastiest beef I’ve ever had. Fantastic meat & first class friendly & knowledgeable staff. Highly recommend this place.

From the minute we arrived Ellen happily looked after us. The food was superb, thank you Chef and cooks, drinks were refreshing. The service provided by Ellen was spot on! Well done and THANK YOU!

We visited here , after not being in for a number of years , we had a small family gathering accompanied with our small dog . We were seated in the bar area , I can honestly say we all had a lovely afternoon . We all ordered from the main menu and we were served by Steve , who was an excellent host for us , nothing at all was too much trouble . We all had different starters , and mains , too many to list . All were of good quality . The only gripe I have is , it is quite expensive , I know most places are nowadays , but I was just a bit taken aback by some of the dishes . Thoroughly enjoyed our visit. Booked via the automated booking system at 2pm for a 2.30pm sitting which was confirmed in seconds. Arrived a tad early at 2.15pm and were shown straight to a nice little table for 2 at the bottom of the stairs slightly tucked away. Suited us down to the ground. Even though it was fairly busy it was still possible to talk without having to raise your voice to be heard. A relatively large establishment it allowed the tables to be spaced generously apart. No pushing your chair back into some one sat at the next table. A couple of slight mix ups. They wrong wine was delivered to the table which was instantly rectified. And secondly when the food arrived I commented to the wife that the Yorkshire puddings looked good only to notice I hadn't been served one. Again upon bringing this to the attention to a member of staff not one but two Yorkshire puddings were duly sent out. Neither of these occurrences put any negative impact on our experience. We had a roast chicken dinner and a pork belly roast dinner. Both were nice. Portion sizes just right. Service was fast, friendly, polite & efficient.

I have been to the Mosbrook today with friends for lunch. We ate off the lunch time menu which had a lot of choice and great value for money we all thoroughly enjoyed. Our waitress today was Ellen who could not have done more for us and was very friendly she is a great ambassador for your business. We will be back again very soon.

Out for lunch with two friends and, as always, the service and food were excellent. Ellen balances friendly with efficient very well please congratulate her on her 40 years (she doesn't look or act old enough). I’ve had the Duck Salad, which I love, a few times but decided to give the Panzanella Salad with extra Prawns a go and I wasn’t disappointed. Friends enjoyed the Steak and Malbec Pie and the Salmon on Special. The two Sticky Toffee puds and a Crème Brûlée were great too. We’ll be back !

The atmosphere was very nice, and the staff are lovely, the food was nice, but the old menu was much better, but still looking forward to trying some of the other new stuff on the menu as well.

I live in London but visit my Mother who lives in Eckington. Derbyshire. We always come here for lunch and we are never disappointed. The food is delicious and the staff are always so welcoming and polite, the service is first class. Today we were looked after by Ellen, who has worked there for 40yrs. Lovely setting, stylish decor and very attentive staff. Interesting menu with plenty of variety and great presentation. Reasonably priced food and drinks. Our table tried the spicy prawns, creamy mushroom and chilli jam chicken wing starters. Spicy prawns needed a little more flavour; mushroom sauce was a bit thin; chicken wings spot on. We also had house burgers, scallops as a main, sea bass and seafood linguine. All mains were lovely. Will return.

Had a lovely lunch earlier this week. Ellen was fantastic - really friendly and helpful when I couldn’t decide what to choose from the menu. She couldn’t have been more accommodating. The food was gorgeous and as always, had a lovely afternoon.

Lovely pub, really nice setting inside. Friendly service from the start. Seated quickly. It did take nearly half an hour for drinks orders to be taken but it was busy. Once we had our drinks everything ran smoothly. We were served by a lovely young man called Max who was really helpful and a pleasant server. Food was lovely. Portion sizes were a little small so for the larger appetite maybe order a side. Overall happy with the night out and will return

Had a great afternoon with friends celebrating 2 big birthdays. Food was amazing and our server Jamie was outstanding. He dealt wonderfully with 11 lively personalities and went above and beyond to make sure we had fun.

Sunday lunch with family. Great meals, good quality food well displayed. We all had puddings. A little expensive but very tasty and different. Staff brilliant, nothing was too much trouble. Busy place but wasnt noisy, good atmosphere.

Very attentive staff and Ellen looked after us throughout. She was attentive but also discreet. Food was very good and the lunch menu was very reasonable.

The menu sounded good and thought it be something a bit better than average pub grub. Sadly it wasn’t. Started with around of drinks - one water, one alcohol free beer, one wine and one v&t that came in at just under £28! Ordered starters which were ok and mains appeared before the starter plates had been cleared. Mains - sea bass and chicken were just ok. The dirty burger at nearly £18 was a huge disappointment with what seemed like a cheap burger in a cheap roll with cheap processed cheese.

Absolutely love it here, regular meeting place and always a fabulous welcome by the lovely lisa. Mossbrook would not be the same without her.

A wonderful place. Booked a table for 4 . Received a warm welcome on arrival. Neve was our waitress and looked after us really well. We all chose different meals and really enjoyed our food. The chunky chips were absolutely delicious 😋. Lovely surroundings, decor and atmosphere. The music wasn't too loud either so made conversation easy. Would highly recommend and look forward to our next visit.

Lovely meal and never rushed, was served by Lisa who was a delight and the young brunette waitress (sorry I didn't get your name!) was lovely too with nothing being to much to do for us.

Pleasant hotel, been several times now owing to it's location for visiting family. Staff always very welcoming and friendly. Often see weddings taking place, lovely to see and generally not overly a noise problem for sleeping. Bed comfy!!!!! Nice bar area but big doors either end and they let the cold in. Would spend much longer in the bar if it was warm. Food good. This time we had breakfast on a Sunday. Breakfast hot buffet. Preferred it when they cooked it fresh to order and delivered tea and coffee to the table as previously, rather than help yourself.

Visit on 16th January for a birthday meal, lovely food. We all really enjoyed the meal, and the staff looked after us all. Especially the birthday girl.

Myself and wife have been a number of times and are never dissapointed. This time a birthday treat for my wife, so best meat course was the choice. As usual the service was courtious and helpful and the meal was nothing short of wonderful. We both left with a contented and happy feeling.

Another great meal at the Mossbrook. I went with a friend and we were the first people in the pub, arriving before our booking time but were seated quickly and Lisa gave us great service. At no point were we looked down on for only having one course each and using an offer voucher or hassled to speed up. We’ll be back.

Went for dinner on a Saturday night in December and selected from the Christmas menu. Mistake one. Cold turkey, hard sprouts and 1 carrot and 1 parsnip between 2 adults. Mistake two. Nearly 2 hours to deliver a 2 course meal, obviously down to booking in as many people as they can to gain profit. Mistake three. Why would a head chef let anything like this leave the kitchen? Surely a so called premium restaurant would have a head chef to stop this happening? Mistake four. Wrote to manager who stated next time we visit, we need to mention this bad experience and they will make sure we have a perfect experience this time. Never heard anything so ridiculous in all my years attending so called premium restaurants. You pay premium prices you expect premium food and service, the Mosbrook is miles off the later.

Wanted to try here as it’s a local pub and had never been before. We were told not to bother by another relative as they had reported it to be expensive and not a lot of food on the plate. Tried it anyway and whilst the service, decor, efficiency, atmosphere was amazing. We were quite disappointed with the food portions relative to the price we had paid. (This was from the festive menu). The sprouts were hard (difficult to cut through) and I think we were all quite shocked at the portion size. For example, half a carrot, 1 stuffing. I was missing sprouts from my plate. It felt quite substandard and some of the table left still hungry. Maybe it is too posh for us but we’ve certainly got more for our money from other posh pubs such as The Elm tree at Elmton. However, my Nan did comment it was the best turkey she had ever had and was impressed with the cranberry sauce so it’s not all bad but not sure we would revisit. There was also a £26 service charge included in the bill which I thought was abit excessive, having the bill already being close to £300. Win some and lose some and this was a lose for us.

Absolutely amazing Christmas Day. The food was outstanding and the service from Neve was wonderful. Third year we have been and will definitely be booking again for 2024. All the staff make the Mossbrook an outstanding place to visit year round.

I was greeted by the friendly manager who was helpful and showed mewhere my family were sitting. The waitress service (Olivia & Maddy) was fast friendly and efficient and the food was excellent. We would happily go again and recommend the inn to our friends.

We haven't been here for years so decided to try it again last night and it was lovely. We both ordered pate then turkey off the festive menu and then desserts of a brownie and a mince pie creme brulee and it was all very tasty. The main course wasn't a massive plate full but it was filling, although it didn't come very hot. The restaurant is very cosy and the service was good. The festive menu was 3 courses for £32.95 and it was well worth it.

The atmosphere and service were amazing and the food didn’t disappoint. The presentation of everything was simply perfect. Taste was unbelievable and it’s clear only the best ingredients used. Thanks you to everyone.

Food was amazing, I chose the seabass and it was cooked to perfection! The brunette waitress, I think her name was Libby, had excellent customer service, very polite and helpful when I was struggling what to choose. Would recommend to anyone!

Return visit, this time had the sticky chicken and creamy mushrooms as starters. This was followed by the pan fried lamb rump which melted in the mouth, and the maple glazed pork belly and scallops which were delicious. The sharing dessert of chocolate brownie, berry pavlova and apple and damson crumble was the perfect ending to a wonderful meal. Great setting and friendly staff, this place is a real gem. Highly recommend the Mossbrook experience for any occasion.

Had a pleasant Sunday Roast with friends. Their food was ok but my pork dinner was disappointing. Not much meat, vegetables luke warm, roast potatoes as hard as bullets almost and Yorkshire Pudding dry and flaky, with no gravy on it. To be fair, I've been here many times in the past and been satisfied. Good service.

We have visited The Mossbrook several times recently, always in a group, and every time the entire table has been served a perfect meal. Food obviously cooked by a chef that really cares about what he produces, and nothing too much trouble when there have been queries or special requests relating to the food. Staff exceptionally helpful, their upbeat attitude contributes greatly to the enjoyment.

Beautiful country pub, the interior is modern and classy and the sourdough pizza is excellent; everything about this pub is amazing.
