Lovely cosy pub with friendly staff.Will call in again.

Just been for a family get together this afternoon to The Minster Inn and had a great time. The thin base pizzas are lovely and the choice of toppings was imaginative and tasty. I had the ‘Couldn’t Give a Fig’ pizza which was fab and went well with a nicely poured Guinness. Staff were great, really attentive and with a sense of humour which made our experience even better. Thank you to the team and chefs.

10 stars. Brilliant pub. Most excellent barman - friendly, welcoming, funny, efficient, great at his job. Dog friendly pub. Real 'propahh' pub in every way. Vegetarian, vegan and gluten free options available on menu. Has outdoor seating - very nice and cosy as is covered, sheltered and has those outdoor heater things. Three lovely rooms, smart decor and with woodburners. Great range of handpulled cask beers. On the day I visited casks available were: Leeds Best Bitter, Ilkley Brewery's Blonde, Turning Point Brew Co's Lucid Dream Milk Stout, Turning Point Brew Co's Pixel Enthusiast West Coast Session IPA and Kirkstall Brewery's Pale Ale. I had the latter and it's a lovely drop. I had the veggie loaded nachos and pon my word.... what a plateful! Size of a dustbin lid! Tasty. Filling. Nommmm, purrrr. Most highly recommended. For sure I shall be returning. Worra pub!

We had a lovely lunch here. The pizza is absolutely delicious and they have a relaxed and friendly ambiance.

Dropped in for a quick drink, but ended up staying to eat after chatting with the super friendly staff. Had an amazing pizza and sides, so happy to have found this place!

The food was great and we could not knock it. There was a new chef on and he did a great job especially as it was busy. Well done. We complimented him at the end. However, the service needs some work. Whenever we asked for a few things we just got a “no” and no suggestion of an alternative. “Do you have a high chair? “No” “Do you have baby changing?” “No” There is no legal obligation to provide baby facilities and I realise the venue is small but the response was just an arrogant and rude. Sitting holding a hungry baby in a dirty nappy for 2 hours was difficult especially with the long wait for food. A small high chair from Ikea takes very little room to store. “Can we have a large pizza?” “No- it will take up too much room in the oven?” Don’t advertise it if you can’t make it. Or at least advise it would take longer. Like I say, the food was very good but the service would put me off returning.

When you're a bit off the tourist track, you need to work harder and it's clear these guys do, but effortlessly. I had a gluten free pizza that is the best I've had anywhere. The base was large and the toppings were generous - none of the usual skimpy GF disappointment that tastes like cardboard and looks like a child's portion. If you hadn't told me it was GF, I'd have thought it was a normal crispy base. My wife's pizza was equally generous and delicious. Lots of different rooms, some buddy and buzzy, ours quiet and comfortable. The balance of traditional features and modern decor is very well considered. All round, excellent.

Really friendly staff, great atmosphere and fab food. The pizzas were delicious and the tiramisu was probably the best I've ever had!

We've used this pub regularly over the last few years but recently left there feeling disappointed :( A group of us went for my son's birthday but we felt the pizzas/value for money weren't up to previous standards, i deliberately chose to go on a Sunday to use the 'bogof' they advertise on Facebook but felt let down! We've been before as a group of an odd number and paid for the pizzas and had the equivalent number free, this time we were told we were told that as there was five of us we needed to pay for three pizzas but could only have two free.........that's not the way the 'deal' is advertised imo. I've contacted them about the matter before leaving a review but aren't happy with our experience and won't be going back or recommending, shame as I've told lots of people how good it was in the past. It really took the shine off our family night out so we didn't bother staying for more drinks, one to strike off our list!!!

Stunning Edwardian pub with bags of character and great service. Always a few good beers on, we had a couple from Acorn Brewery & Beavertown. The pizzas are superb! It's very easy to lose a few hours in one of the cosy little rooms or the covered yard, also of note is that their outside toilets are immaculate. It's a great run pub all around and one of our favourites to visit in York.

A friend booked a table for a few hours to play board games. The staff accommodated this admirably and kept us well served with drinks throughout the afternoon. They also welcome dogs, which is nice- several calm dogs were in the bar and got in no-one's way. It is quite a small pub though, so can be busy. If you're after a quiet drink, it'd be best to go early to avoid the crowds!

A lovely old pub with a good selection of well kept beer and a massive menu of excellent pizzas. The welcome and service was great making this a must visit if you love pizza. They even have some of the best Gluten free pizza bases we have had if you are GF.

Brilliant pub with great pizzas and lovely service. Went for the first time on New Year’s Day as a group of four and were served quickly. Pizza choices are great - the pesto chicken was a winner round the table. Great vibe, family friendly. Will be back again.

Me and my partner visited here yesterday for the first time we reserved a table in advance and upon arrival ,were promptly seated and made to feel welcome the food was phenomenal and service was expectional we ordered 2 pizzas and some loaded fries all which arrived piping hot ,there was also a nice selection of drinks etc I would highly this place and will be returning in the future .

Amazing place - we turned up unannounced and, despite it being busy, were quickly found a table. And we were so glad they did as the pizza was simply delicious! Top marks from myself and my husband for the very attentive staff, excellent food and drink and the provision of a warm haven on a very chilly night.

Pub seemed to be lacking warmth and friendliness

Nice old pub. Not very big, so gets full and busy quickly. Seems very popular, and we could see why. We sat in the garden for the first part of the evening, where we had pizza and chilli chips. Absolutely delicious. After some time, the pub thinned out and we made our way inside. It was nice and cozy with its old decor and feel. The bar staff are friendly but do get rushed off their feet, so be a little patient, they are putting in some graft. Definitely worth making a visit, as it’s just out of town. So has a real local feel to it.

A great place to eat. Found it when visiting the Railway museum and wanted some food. Very reasonably priced and lovely food, pleasant staff. Would certainly go back there again when visiting York.

Absolutely fantastic for us and our 10yo, pizza brilliant, great beer, music not too loud and the service is fantastic - can’t recommend it highly enough - but you do need to book - and order the tiramisu first b4 it runs out

We made a last minute booking yesterday afternoon for the evening, and have to say the pub, atmosphere, service, food and drinks were all top marks. A great local pub with two outstanding members of staff who are customer focussed, the man behind the bar and the lady who served us are a credit to this place. Found this bar on our way back from the Rail Museum, so glad we did. Firstly, lovely looking pub, really liked the decor and atmosphere. Secondly, the music rocks. Thirdly and most importantly, the Butterly Bitter was crystal clear and delicious. Fourthly ! The cheesy chips selection is top nosh. And fifthly and by no means lastly, the staff are brilliant. We went for an evening meal here having booked way in advance we were asked to send the parties food order in a few days prior as there was too large parties in at the same time! The food still took 2 hours to come! And staff said they did not do starters even though the menu makes it look like starters are available, we did get it prior to the mains but wouldn’t have ordered it had we known they don’t normally do that! The food was lovely when it did arrive though!

I booked the Minster Inn for myself and friends, and were delighted with our choice. From the moment we entered the pub we felt welcome, and the service was friendly, courteous and efficient throughout. The pizzas were simply delicious, piping hot and home made, uniformly excellent. The beer was excellent too, perfectly kept cask ale from Wold Top. When we’re exceeded our generous time allocation indoors we were given seating in the covered area outside. Will definitely return. The pub is nicely situated on the far side of the Museum gardens, so away from the noisy crowds in the town centre. Booking easy and efficient online; I’d recommend doing that as York very busy, especially evenings and weekends.

Second visit to the Minster Inn and I absolutely recommend the ‘I Don’t Give a Fig’ pizza, it is delicious. Even the skin on fries and halloumi sticks were amazing. Happily say it’s one of the best pizzas I’ve had!! Such lovely staff, kitchen manager especially. Had the Dark n Stormy cocktail which was lovely as well. I will definitely be back!

Service was poor as had to wait about 45mins for 2 pizzas and loaded nachos. Loaded nachos were burnt and far from loaded. Very scarce on the minced beef. Food was mediocre, won’t visit again

We booked for Saturday night in August a table for 5 adults. lovely friendly service, large selection of pizzas and sides available, vegan and gluten free options. We all ordered different ones with a side of loaded fries. All were freshly cooked and delicious. Only negative ( and it’s s personal preference) was none were offered with BBQ base instead of tomato. There was bbq sauce available though.

Such a disappointment! Waited 45 mins for a bowl of olives. When we asked when the pizzas would be arriving (only two pizzas and a flat bread) the cook came out ranting. The 8 people who had left the pub was to much for him. He screamed he was mad busy and when I said there was no one in the pubs he went on and on and told us to leave. If the pub was mad busy the wait wouldn’t have been an issue. But when there was hardly anyone in I felt 45 plus for a pizza was a joke. I do t think he’d even started to cook are food. The table across from us had ordered three pizza one being a vegan pizza. Their order came out wrong snd a vegan pizza had to be made which didn’t take 45 mins. I felt the cook was rude and abusive. There was no need for it. It was a simple question to the waitress which was excuse so you know how much longer it will be for our pizzas. I do not think the reaction and abuse was required for a simple question.

Extremely tasty crispy thin crust pizza. Bar and service is great as well. Menu’s got fun, creative pizzas and sides. Atmosphere is lovely. Will definitely visit again.

Great location for the city as outside the walls so not a mental as within but still a great atmosphere. We actually stayed in the Airbnb above which will be another 5* review. The Friday night was a bit mental (Pride weekend) so we booked a meal for the Saturday night. The pizza is amazing.. Great choices and the sides were tasty too. Would recommend the haloumi fries.

There were 10 of us that booked for lunch and drinks to celebrate a birthday. The pub is a lovely place and staff are very friendly and welcoming. They went over and above. One of the group is gluten free and another vegan, the menu catered for all. Delicious pizzas which were freshly made and the loaded fries were amazing. Would definitely recommend a visit as it will be a regular visit every time we visit York

We met friends here on Sunday night, taking advantage of 'buy one get one free' on pizzas. The Timmy Taylors was absolutely spot on and all 4 of us thoroughly enjoyed our pizzas. My diavalo was 10/10, the chilli out made it 11/10, can't wait to go again 😋😋

Cannot recommend this pub more! We were a large group in the parlour room and had a number of pizzas and chips to share! The staff were so friendly and could not have been more welcoming Service was great and the pizzas were top notch and cooked fresh to order! You will not be disappointed!

What a terrific pub. Good range of beers etc, very cool interior, friendly staff and honestly one of the best pizza’s I’ve ever had. Slightly off the beaten track which only makes it more attractive! A definite hidden gem (don’t tell anyone it’s here).
