The midway in Stockport

The only letdown was the vegan nut roast, £15 for it compared to the sizes of the other huge meat roasts felt unfair. EDIT: Since everything nice I said has been ignored, and i received a rude response on a 4-star review, all nice parts have been removed, and I've dropped a star for being so unprofessional. The vegan nut roast may be made with "3 types of truffle oil" and "10 vegetables," but it's hard to taste any of that when the exteriors burnt to a crisp! You're making out im greedy just for pointing out the obvious. How can anyone look at that plate and say that's £15 worth of food, Gordon ramsey would have a seizure if he saw that. It's quite literally a burnt orange square, 2 carrots, 2 parsnips, a tablespoon of mash, 3 potato's, a pinch of cabbage and a metal thing full of gravy to hide how empty the plate is.

The food was overpriced for the small portions served. I ordered crispy beef salad. It contained 4 tiny strips of meat, grated carrots, pepper and onion slices and unmanageable noodles. We waited 20 minutes for 1 starter. 40 minutes for the main meal and after a 40 minute wait for dessert we asked how much longer the wait would be and the reply was "you'll get it when its ready, we're doing other food at the moment " I went to the bar and the lady behind the bar ignored me, brushed past me and left. The starter was cold and the sticky toffee pudding was merely sponge. No dates I won't go again

Our first visit under the new management as previous management were flawless. Any way we went with the specials of the day as it was St Patrick’s day and all the meals were fantastic, I had the lamb stew which had more than enough lamb in it and the little soda breads were perfect, the Bacon and cabbage was fantastic and the Beef and Guinness pie looked amazing. We had great service, all staff were attentive and friendly. We will be going back .

Had the goats cheese and beetroot salad, goats chees was pretty sparse as was the beetroot ( out of a pickled jar). The meal was bulked out with grains. Far too many carbs and too many grains in terms of balancing the dish. Not much "salad" or goats cheese of veg in the mix. Shame really. No seasoning so very bland. On the positive side the wait staff were great. Don't think as a veggie , who loves salad I'll eat here again though.

Pie of the day - Steak & Guinness today, it was sensational. Double cooked homemade chips, fresh crisp seasonal veg, sublime meat gravy.

Not been since last year, I’m afraid won’t be going back. 😔 Meal and service were below standard. Chilli was made with cheap I’m guessing frozen mince, not really a chilli very mild, also not very warm let alone hot. Salmon salad was tasteless, salmon had no flavour, olives could have been pitted, whole meal drowning in oil that didn’t have any flavour. The place was very quiet, it never used to be!

Really good food, lovely staff. Would return next time I'm in Stockport for sure. Great value for money 👍

Marcello and Paul helped me organise a function on Saturday, the food was flawless along with the service, Lauren was fantastic on the private bar, and the room was perfection, lovely venue and experience and I will be returning! Thanks guys x

Great food and service. The pie of the day was spot on (just ask for a bit more gravy) and the waitresses were really helpful. Mum was looking for gluten free stuff too and there was a great selection.

Lovely place for some dinner and food to socialise with friends. Lauryn served us and was really lovely all night, helping us with any problems we had.

We won’t be returning under the new management sadly. The food is nowhere near to the standard of previous visits and is not value for money. One staff member was lovely, but one lady was rather rude even though they had messed up our order that was pre booked and then checked on arrival. There were four errors in all, including the bill which did not show our deposit and a very long wait for food. Not once were any of our table of 8 asked if we wanted a drink the whole two or so hours we were there. We decided not to have dessert and left early.

Main course (cod in batter) was fabulous and great value for money. Dessert was hugely overpriced for a tiny sliver of apple pie in cold, watery custard. Service was friendly but poor - had to repeatedly ask for items and gave up on a drink only for it to be served half an hour after ordering it (as we were leaving).

Visited for the second time for Mothers Day. The food was beautiful. Our Server Lucy was very professional, friendly and smiled all evening. Will definately go again.

Had an amazing afternoon here for Mothering Sunday. The food was exceptional and the staff couldn't do enough for us. Will definitely be returning again. Outstanding place to go for food.

Just back from a Mother’s Day meal! Pre ordered which is not usually how we like it but we did it and never ever again! My Yorkshire was cold! Then I waited 15 mins for another on then my food was cold- it just went from bad to worse! They were under staffed yet again being greedy! Ended up not charging for mine and the 2 desserts but rather than pay another couple of waiters/waitresses they will lose money and upset customers Milly our waitress was amazing! She looked so under pressure but she handled it so well bless her! Still smiling and well mannered where as the blonde older waitress was miserable, loud and rude at times! Also the Irish woman didn’t no her arse from her elbow just ordering them around and getting stressed, just makes u feel uncomfortable Won’t be going back again it’s not the same!!!

Unfortunately we didn’t enjoy our Sunday lunches the chicken was chewy and not as good as it used to be , it’s a shame as come there for many years , won’t be returning, the previous managers was so friendly and on the ball new management don’t even acknowledge you to busy chatting to the staff . Had a great evening at The Midway in Stockport last night. The food was brilliant, very tasty, piping hot and good sized portions. Homely surroundings, comfortable seating and clean. The staff were very attentive, pleasant and cheerful .We will definitely be going back 👍.

Visited the Midway several times over the last 6 months. The Sunday roast is always amazing, the other meals we’ve had were also great. The bar has a good selection of local and imported beers and a wine list seldom seen in bistro pubs! The service is always lovely.

The worst meal I have ever had never mind paid for. My wife had a chicken sandwich which comprised of raw chicken, two slabs of raw onion and regular bacon not rashers but breakfast Bacon so as you can imagine fat of which was rather like sinue. Inedible fish which they have decided to die the batter with turmeric which gives the fish a paracetamol powdery flavour and reasonable chips. When I asked why the fish batter was yellow I was pretty much told to fool punters into believing it is better quality than it is. Staff disinterested from the outset far more interested in chatty to one another or eating themselves.

We were served by Ange both times, who remembered us from the previous visit. She took our order with a smile, and didn’t need to explain how the steak was served (which, as it is cooked French style, very thin with garlic) she normally does. The meal was served fairly quickly and was as good if not better than the previous time. The steak is battered and griddled with tons of garlic and the Parmesan fries are the perfect accompaniment - no condiments or accompaniments required. This was followed by the lightest, tastiest-home made tiramisu, that we have tasted. The chefs, we met Ivo yesterday, come across as very skilled with consistent qualities and we will be happy to taste more of their creations.

Good service, great food at reasonable prices, and overall nice place/atmosphere.

Not as good as it was before it changed hands. Chips weren’t cooked properly, custard thin, generally an average meal. Which is a shame, as it used to be exceptional.

Roast is great! Ribeye, excellent! Food, atmosphere, staff, all great.

Great dog friendly pub, we had a lovely meal, staff were really friendly and food served all day which was a bonus, will definitely eat here again

We contacted the restaurant to check if we could use our dinning card we were too we could so we booked and arrived on time the food was okay nothing special but when we tried to pay with the card we were told they did not take the card and the man was quite rude whe I said we had called to check about the card

Very safe, staff were excellent, good choice of food on the menu but have to say we were a little underwhelmed with the roast dinner we got.

We were celebrating a birthday and there were 10 of us. The service was good and everyone enjoyed their meal. It's a shame it was very quiet so they closed at 10pm.

The food was awful. We ordered the roast dinners and the veg was completely raw and inedible. The mash was not fresh and tasted like smash. The stuffing wasnt cooked in the middle and the beef was dry. When we raised the issues with the manager she did not even apologise and tried to tell us that the veg was “Al Dente”, it was completely raw. All they did was deduct £20 off the bill despite 3 full meals going back to the kitchen & us being left hungry. The overall atmosphere in there was dull and none of the staff looked happy. Really dissapointing meal and service, would not return.

I had roast beef, it was melt in your mouth gorgeous, didn't need a knife to cut it. Enough veg, loads of potatoes and massive Yorkshire puddings, with plenty of gravy, delicious. Will be coming back

It's pub grub nothing special I wasn't over imprest but my wife was happy with her meal Servers very polite and friendly Unfortunately one that seemed to be staff having what appeared to be the pub logo on his shirt was very loud with bad language think he may have finished his shift as he appeared to be drinking I won't be going back Forgot to say it way cold in the restaurant there was even a lady dinning in a large bobble hat

We have visited the Midway several times over the years for Sunday Dinner and always enjoyed it. Pleased to say that the Sunday Dinner was excellent and we will defintely be going back.

Stunning Sunday roast. Tender meat, roast potatoes, mash, veg, stuffing, Yorkshire pudding and gravy. Beautiful. Great service. Very busy, hence a bit noisy.

Lovely place nice food and variety. I have been several times now as I have introduced friends and family. Reasonable prices too.

New owners are keeping up the standard set by the old. Hope for new more exciting offerings.

Ordered small fish and chips, batter was soggy and not crispy. My friend had steak and a portion of roast potatoes, these were frozen and not fresh. Small steak considering it was £21. Serving staff were lovely.

Today I’ve attended with my partner and my dog. Have been multiple times with my dog before. I have always returned because is hard to find good food and dog friendly combination and again today didn’t disappoint. The choice is very wide and the quality of food is superb. Today my dog was coming from the vet as had an operation 2 days ago. This was the only place I feel comfortable to take her out. The staff and owner were very caring and attentive to dog owners and other guests. Hope you keep going as you are. Well done!!!

Friendly staff with great service. They also helps us to accommodate us with our dog on a quiet and nice table where we enjoy a nice Sunday roast. I was also surprised when I saw a Mencia wine in the wine list, something quite rare to find around. I would definitely recommend this place to friends and family to enjoy a nice meal with such nice atmosphere.

I've been coming to the Midway for over 25 years. Always excellent food and service. It's good to see the new owners are continuing with this. Looking forward to a more extensive menu over time with some new dishes to try. Keep up the good work and looking forward to another visit soon.

This was our first visit since Paul & Pauline handed over the reigns to Marcello and we weren't sure what to expect, as they were a hard act to follow. However we weren't disappointed and were delighted to see that standards are still high. As it was my birthday and, for once, I was not driving, I enquired about a cocktail. Although they plan to introduce them in the near future, they are not yet a menu item. Marcello came over to check if we had enjoyed our food (we had, it was excellent) and to explain about the cocktail situation. On learning it was my birthday, he whipped up a very delicious Espresso Martini for me to try. It was a lovely gesture and very much appreciated. Customer Service above and beyond. We will definitely be back soon, but my husband may have to share the driving. 🙂

Visited last night for a special family birthday celebration and was not left disappointed. Service was spot on. The staff were super helpful and friendly, did everything they could to ensure that our evening went well. The food was excellent as always, timed and cooked to perfection. We have been coming to the Midway for years always excellent food and service. Our first visit since new management took over we were disappointed with the food 🙁 the fish and chips used to be crispy batter and beautiful fish. But on our visit the batter was rather “sad” not crispy. The fish was that crumbly when cut into you had to use the fork as a spoon to eat it. The chicken curry was much smaller portion than usual. And hardly any sauce. The burger was nice. The chips were nice but not their normal standard. I did tell the waitress about the disappointing fish and she said she would pass comments onto the chef. Used to visit here regularly but our visit has somewhat put me off. A shame as the staff are lovely.

This was a family of eight get together, at 6pm. We were well and courteous. Food is good quality, my comment is that both starter and dessert were small and not value for money. We've had same food at many other restaurants same quality with either bigger portions or lower prices. We will go again but not have starter or dessert.

We have been for a roast the last two Sundays. Avoid the lamb and beef it's not great quality meat and its as tough as old boots. Stick with the chicken. Staff are lovely and the place has a nice atmosphere.

Second visit travelling from Cleethorpes for leisure. Would highly recommend this pub/,restaurant. Top quality food and decent prices. Well worth a visit on the way to the airport/ trafford Park.

Just had another great experience at The Midway. This time, under new management. The food was fantastic as normal, especially the 'Steak and Frites'. My partner and I visit The Midway quite often and always enjoy the food, atmosphere and friendly staff!

We’ve been visiting here for a few years as a group of friends for a catch up. Booked our usual time weeks ago and well in advance for this evening. Literally just had a phone all to tell me the kitchen closes at 7pm. We were due to arrive at 7pm but apparently since the take over they are short staffed. Well they will also be short on business on no time if this is the service they are offering! We were really hoping the change in management wouldn’t be negative but so far not so good.

Very disappointing, my friend who had booked the table a few weeks before had a phone call at 4.30 pm telling her the kitchen closed at 7pm and as we had booked for 7pm we would have to order immediately on arrival. Why take the booking without explaining this sooner, so my friend had to phone around to get us there earlier. I ordered sea bass on a bed of Mediterranean vegetables and I asked if there were potatoes with it, I was told there was but when the dish arrive it was just fish and vegetables. I asked for potatoes and was told they could give me mash and I’d have to pay extra, my husband complained and they then decided I didn’t have to pay extra. This place has really gone downhill since it was taken over, the meals were ok but nothing special. It closes at 9 pm, so they don’t deserve custom, when you go out for a meal you don’t want to be rushed. I certainly won’t be going there again.

I got the experience that the establishment was understaffed despite the fact that the staff around the front desk spent most of there time chatting to each other. I ate very little of my meal as it was very fatty and sinuous. The waitress did not ask if any of our food was ok in the area we were seated. When she took my full plate away she did not ask if there had been a problem, despite the fact that she said she had been a waitress for 10 years to another group. The previous managment were much more in charge of customer satisfaction.
