Brilliant food, big portions and really lovely friendly staff. Worth a visit

I am not local and come a few times a year and tex mex has my heart. Everytime I come down I come here for a dinner and this joint never disappoints! The waitress is lovely, friendly, chatty and knowledgable. The food is so flavourful, very good portions and very affordable. I cannot fault this restaurant and despite the small joint they always manage to fit us in, I would recommend this restaurant to anyone and everyone. If I could take a grande cancun burrito back to London I would every single time I come to st Ives.

What a sweet lovely restaurant. Ate here last night early as was going to the cinema. The lovely couple were friendly and attentive. My food was beautifully presented, hot and delicious. I was the only person in but I sat at the window and it didn't feel quiet as music was playing. Had a great chat with the couple and they made me feel very special and welcome. A lovely little gem in the heart of St Ives. Would definitely recommend and come again. Thank you for a lovely meal.

Visit here about once a year and it always delivers! Great portion sizes, well priced but most importantly quality tasty food. Booking recommended as it's a small restaurant. Burritos are highly recommended. Located bang in the centre of town too. Nothing to fault here.

Another super meal and service. Seafood fajita really sizzling, Mexican garlic bread brilliant and huge meat quesadilla. Closes around 8pm during winter but really worth a visit. Good value and highly recommended.

Amazing food. A lovely staff. The lady who was serving us was so polite and smily, gave us a good mood for the rest of the day. The Sheff made tasty dishes in Mexican style 😋 👌 Go and try something new. Even with so small space inside, you would never believe that there is so tasty food and a warm atmosphere.

Had such a great evening with family and everyone enjoyed their food, lovely little authentic restaurant with a nice relaxed friendly atmosphere. Great food including fish tacos on the special menu, and sizzling steak fajitas, ribs, nachos and finished with churros. They also serve lovely margaritas!!! Definitely worth a visit.

I'm sorry to be negative. The food was bland, we love Mexican and visit restaurants often. Friendly service but no real atmosphere or effort in decour. £3,50 for a multi can of coke, literally a can on the table. Never again

I always visit this restaurant when in St Ives, to me, it’s perfect! Everything you could possibly wish for in a restaurant the Mex delivers. The food is fresh and truly delicious, actually mouthwatering, service attentive and extremely friendly, good portion sizes and reasonably priced. We have started visiting twice each holiday, think it’s going to be upped to 3 as nothing else comes close. If you like Mexican food (surely everyone likes at least fajitas?) this is an absolute must so book yourself in and enjoy. Thank you Mex, we love our visits and will definitely be back next holiday.

We booked a couple of weeks before our holiday to be sure to have a table. So glad we did as we saw so many people turned away as they were fully booked. Service was very efficient and friendly. A nice relaxed atmosphere too. Will definitely book again.

Lovely welcome and a great evening eating a delicious, generous meal - the perfect atmosphere for a relaxed meal with Mexican music made for a perfect ambience. Reasonably priced, definitely need to book and a real hidden gem in st ives. We felt really looked after and never rushed even when we were the only ones left! You won’t leave hungry! Looking forward to returning again.

Absolutely brilliant, the specials they had on were amazing, starters were also brilliant as well. Honestly our bill was about £40 and we paid a £10 tip on top for the service and the food coming out so quick!!! The only complaint I would have is that it’s on a busy street so with the door open it can be loud and ruin some of the atmosphere BUT that’s not the restaurants fault, also make sure you call in and book because tables go fast!! In Cornwall all week and this was the best meal out of the lot! Highly recommend for couples/families/anyone who enjoys good food!!

We tried booking online and said just walk in so we did, when we arrived we were instantly turned away as they were "fully booked" but there were 3 tables free. A family of four left and we tried again and turned away again which was surprising.

We had a great meal at this restaurant - we had nachos then burritos, both courses were delicious and very generous portions. The service was great, very friendly and welcoming. Prices were very reasonable for the quality and quantity of the food. Just a small restaurant, so booking is recommended, but the overall meal and atmosphere were well worth it, we'll definitely go back.

On the way back to our hotel we happened to pass this Mexican restaurant and reserved a table for the following day. We had a small starter mix, enchiladas and burritos, with Corona beer, margaritas as an aperitif, and tequilas as a digestif. The service was very friendly and attentive, we enjoyed the food, very authentic in my opinion and the colorful ambience is perfect for a Mexican restaurant. I strongly recommend reservations as this is a small restaurant with a few tables, all of which were occupied. There is no outside area. The price/performance ratio is excellent. This is our 5th time dining at The Mex. Always enjoy the food and drinks. The margarita is especially delicious 😋 The staff are always so lovely and friendly. A great find for authentic Mexican food in an intimate setting. I highly recommend. As always will be back next year on our next trip to St Ives.

We were very lucky to get a table (definitely book ahead). The staff were warm and welcoming (the owner had to deal with a particularly difficult customer and handled it really well). The food was excellent!

Amazing food, great server and great Margheritas

This is not mexican food. Nothing tasted bad. But nothing tasted good. The veggie burrito was literally just baked beans inside the tortilla covered in sauce and cheese. That's an enchilada. The chips that came with the guacamole were oddly covered in spices and were not crispy. The churros tasted like they were the frozen ones from Tesco.

We visited a few months ago The restaurant was very empty however we were told they won’t be able to accommodate us as they are fully booked We were told we can alternatively order so we did. We came to collect the food around 40 minutes later. The food was absolutely delicious and hot. I would definitely recommend, but it would be nicer to sit in. Wonderful little Mexican restaurant in St. Ives. The wonderful lady serving squeezed us in before the rush despite no booking. Cosy, friendly, something different. Margaritas were good although they were served in metal glasses that looked like surgical instruments. Small menu which covers the essentials. BAD experience!! Went in to a visibly empty restaurant but the host said all tables were booked. We asked if we could do a takeaway instead and they said sure. It was around 6pm in the evening and we only wanted Churros. We asked if we could sit down till our takeaway was ready but the host refused again. My wife who is visibly pregnant had to stand in a half empty restaurant till the order was ready. The host could have been more considerate and we would definitely have gotten up if any other customers who had bookings would have walked in (no one did till we were there). The photos are of us standing waiting for our order while looking at the empty tables. Decent churros though so please book and go in case you plan on visiting.
