The Meridian Bier Cafe in South Ayrshire

We had breakfast this morning and the coffee and bacon roll is always the best in Ayr. Cooked breakfast my husband had looked dry and good and not greasy at all. The only down side is the facilities - there has been a smell for many years but it is getting to the stage that it is unbearable. This wonderful eatery must to much better. The lovely people serving and tending to your every need are great and the ambiance in the room is always clean and lovely, it is a shame that the facilities are spoiling the visit.

me and my wife went! was brilliant. served by a lovely young kacey. she was helpful because i’m blind in 1 eye, helped me read the menu. i also can’t use the toilet properly but a managed that one myself (lol) food was very tasty. highly recommend XD

Popped in for a quick lunch and pleasantly surprised by this place, staff polite and helpful, the quality of the food was excellent as was the presentation, great value for not a lot of money.

I don't normally have much for breakfast, but as I had an overnight stay next-door, I had a huge fry up! It was just perfect! I couldn't quite believe I ate so much, but it was too good to waste. The staff are just lovely, so helpful and friendly. Many thanks. 😀

BUYER BEWARE: Expensive! Food was above average. However, for £90 not nearly worth it. £18 for just 2 portions of chips. Plus, £6 a piece for toppings is just ludicrous. Steer clear if you're only wanting an affordable brunch with friends.

First off, the service was great. However, very overpriced. A small breakfast is £9.95, and they’re not kidding when they say small!! 1 sausage, 1 bacon, 1 potato scone, 1 egg served with toast. We both added beans on. Two small breakfasts, two side orders of beans, two black coffees and 2 fresh orange juices came to £35.80! I’ve paid less at lunch time. The food was nice enough but not worth the money.

We only had drinks however the most noticeable thing was the great service from the young girl who said she was the manager she was so friendly and helpful she is an asset to the place, I would return and I would recommend.

Group of 7 out for a birthday dinner, food took ages (which happens) offered more drinks for which we had to obviously pay for. Staff were attentive, other tables were getting food after 20 minutes, whilst we weren’t fed 1 hour 40 in. Fajitas came eventually £17.95!! Ridiculous pricing. Portion was small, chicken veg was over cooked and swimming in oil. Disappointing. Sisters tempura was meant to be a large portion got 4 pieces and was mooshy. Bill was also over charged by £9.30 after spending nearly £200 unimpressed offered no supplements and didn’t bother with deserts won’t be back.

This is a gem of a place to stop for food. The fabulous art deco frontage caught my attention but inside was not a disappointment. The menu was good with a selection that suited all 4 of us, including both my fussy child and husband. The waiting staff that served us, couldn't have been more friendly or helpful. When the food arrived it was fantastic. I was slightly disappointed when I was finished because the food was so tasty!

Shockingly surly waiting staff. Order was wrong (one egg in each roll, asked specifically for 2), then had to ask 3 times for hot milk. Bill was £6:50 for each 1 item roll and coffee but had asked for a little bit of cheese to be added to one. Tiny amount of cheese was itemised at an additional £2. My inspiration to write this review is that I've just looked on their website and menu says 'coffee and filled roll £4:95 with 95p ext filling'. So have been charged £4:15 more. From fairly regular visitors to never again sadly.

I’m most impressed with the service and atmosphere. The music is not intrusive, the waitress most attentive and the meal was superb. I made the mistake of ordering a starter and a main course, both of which would have sufficed on their own!! I think that if I lived here in Ayr I would spend a lot of time in this restaurant. Kudos to the chef and staff.

Never write reviews but …I am deeply disappointed by my recent experience at The Meridian. It was truly disheartening. Firstly, we were not informed about any time limit on the table and shortly after finishing our food, we were politely asked to make way for the “owner's friends” couldn’t believe that this was coming out the supervisors mouth. We must have only been sat at the table for 20-30 mins tops, we were still consuming wasn’t like we were dragging it out or anything. It was quite frustrating because we didn't even get a chance to finish our drinks literally took two of three mouthfuls of my beer. I wasn’t even going to complain about the food being cold. I just understood that they were busy but what added to the disappointment was witnessing the staff engaging in arguments among themselves, this created an uncomfortable atmosphere. The Meridian used to be a place we enjoyed, but this experience has left a sour taste. Regrettably, I won't be returning to The Meridian after this disappointing visit.

The food was phenomenal 😍hot and really tasty 😋 we ordered chicken fajitas,and the served us really huge portions 🥰✨ Lemonade taste good but missed some of part citrus 🍋🍊 inside,all of rate 9/10✨well done 👍✅

I have been coming here since 2004. Service has always been superb....table service for drinks years before covid. Very disappointed this evening. Food okay, tasty enough but unfortunately the service was terrible. We asked for a wine list. We were directed to a non existent wine list and told they had only a choice of house red or white. Chose the red. Waitress returned to say we had to choose from options (eh..yeah, that is why we asked for a wine list). Anyway...food was adequate ...fajitas were quite greasy but edible. Waitress delivers food....said "who is having this...thing" ...didn't know what she was serving. Called an enchilada a crepe. Anyway.....asked for bill and asked if we could add on for a tip....sneered at disdainfully so we decided not to tip. Abysmal service. Clueless staff who cleqrly wanted to finish their shift. Worst service since coming here regularly since 2004.

Came here for a cocktail. The service was very good and the cocktails lovely. Didn't have food. The booth seats uncomfortable after a while and the atmosphere not great but would come back for a cocktail.

Service was a waste of time, wasnt greeted at the door even tho sign says wait, couldn't get dessert as they shut the kitchen, bar tender wasn't interested in making drinks and waitress was away with the fairies.

We were hot and dry and in need of fluids.We came upon this beautiful decorated wood panelled hostelry offering food and drink.Clare was the lady in charge and immediately took on friendly approach offering fayre.We ordered drinks and snacks.Within minutes,we were furnished with refreshments.Clare showed a professional and friendly customer approach,and the wife and I were made special.Average prices were offered,and we sat and enjoyed.

.. as the Growler across the street, and same high prices: £8 for a pint of Brewdog Punk IPA at only 5%. Nice decor and staff but we won't be rushing back.

Love meridian and have been going for years, but £27 for a bottle of Pinot Grigot that i could buy for £7 in a supermarket is to much, need to look elsewhere

Ordered a Southern fried chicken panini and it came out burnt, told the waitress and she took the food away and then brought the same food back telling me it's supposed to be like that the chef said it's because the flour gets cooked twice, told her NO! it's burnt and bitter, it was like a scene from dumb and dumber, waitress no clue and chef STUPID couldn't even get the noodles right, was more like soup.

I ordered chicken wings ....the sauce was too nippy for my taste buds...William the server took them away and returned with salt and pepper chicken wings which my taste buds thought were great! Philly cheese steak panini for my main, now this was sooooo delicious that I would go back again. Another server who was great was called Dylan, I hope I've spelt it the correct way 🤗🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🌼

came in for drinks and food first off we ordered a cocktail each and they came almost like they were out of date then our food came cold are far to over priced and the staff were very unkind and and ungrateful for tip we left even though service was terrible would never go again would like refunded

Found this lovely place by accident on a sunny day in Ayr, and so glad we did! Delicious lunch, excellent service and a friendly atmosphere. Hopefully we'll get back soon.....

meridian is our go to place for food when in ayr.lovely place to sit for a drink and food.fish n chips was the best ive tasted in a long time as was my partners scampi.staff were attentive but not in your face.went on a wednesday night and was pretty busy,noticed a lot of places were quiet so says a lot for the meridian.very nice place and will always be first choice for food....

Came here years ago and had a great pizza so returned again while visiting Ayr. Managed to get a seat in a booth without having booked which for a Saturday night was very lucky although arrived early. Had pizza again which was good although toppings could be a bit more generous. Note - a glass of wine is expensive at £9.50 a glass, our waiter Ellis offered us the meal deal of bottle of wine and a pizza for £25.00, decent value. Fast efficient waiting staff, Ellis was very friendly and helpful pointing out the deal. Good place for a quick pizza and some wine.

Lovely pub. Good beers and good service

Actually terrible. Staff - lovely, no complaints. But the food? Appalling. I've had better microwave meals. If Tim Wetherspoon can produce a curry that's in every way better than a curry from Meridian for less than half the price, then something's gone wrong in either the kitchen or the accounting office. Our last visit was the final straw, because this isn't a one-off either. Got served a pint which had lipstick on the glass, so that was nice.

In for breakfast food OK but nothing to shout about and eggs over done. Staff were friendly and welcoming.

It had been a rubbish trip to Ayr, weather and dinner poor, hotel rotten, so a lovely brunch served by cheerful staff and accompanied by very good coffee cheered us up no end, generous portions, remarkably grease free fry up. Thanks x

1 bit of bacon is a joke for a £13 'large' breakfast. Apparently 1 is the magic number because that's all I got for everything. Apart from mushrooms lol they managed to cut them into quarters and I managed a nice handful. So yay if u like mushrooms. Not so much if u like meat In your breakfast.

Overpriced for what we got, server was impolite the look I got because I asked for my mother's dirty teapot changed...

Just been here for blue Monday treat to console ourselves at Liz Mistrusst getting in as P.M.. Had King Prawn Tempura x 2 ( batter light crisp snd fluffy) followed by Pizza Pescatora with lovely bottle of house red then Pink Fizz cocktail ( loverleeeee) and churros. Food amazing. Staff first class. Warm, welcoming, value for money. So difficult to find reliable quality local places with such consistent attentive service, quality of food and without the rocketing price tags so common elsewhere. Thanks to Amy and all the crew at Meridian . Looking forward to our next visit already.p

Front of house staff were sub par, ordered a smirnoff vodka and got given a cheaper alternative, friend ordered a koppaberg, got asked if it was a cocktail,server then went away and came back , said they didn't have it , didn't offer an alternative either, took ages to get a servers attention, food was amazing though, can't fault the kitchen staff.

Had another excellent breakfast, the place to go when visiting Ayr for breakfast. Friendly staff , excellent service great menu choice.

That could have been the worst meal we’ve eaten. Fish is terrible and steak pie is abysmal. The waiters knowledge of beer is waaay off the mark. 1/10

Took ages for breakfast to arrive, in the end had to go to the counter and ask staff where the order was, person serving seemed unbothered and shrugged. Eventually arrived lukewarm and pretty underwhelming for the price. £8 for french toast, 2 slices only done in one side. Really poor value for money and sloooow service wont be back.

Ok place, good pizza and burgers. Unfortunately, often quite loud, normally due to customers trying to talk over crying or loud babies and kids. Still, as long as the noise doesn’t bother you, it’s good. The main staff are often nice. Always new-starts there too though who can seem unsure when asked stuff. For some reason, decided to stop selling brewdog and stocking far inferior and overpriced beavertown. Dropped a star on that one for me.

Staff is absolutely shocking! Twice in a row you walk in, all the staff look at you while you stand next to the "Please wait to be seated sign" only to enter a 30 second stare down, then you say table for 1 and they shrug their shoulders with the kind of "What do you think" attitude. Absolutely atrocious!

To start I ordered the antipasto pizza and it came without cheese? I said to the staff and they literally added 4 dollops of mozzarella to the pizza and brought the same pizza back out, it was like cardboard. I ordered a side of salt and pepper fries that was literally chips with salt and pepper grinded on them.. the large tempura chicken was about 4 bits of chicken that would have cracked your tooth it was that solid and drier than Gandhi’s flip flop don’t waste your money go anywhere else

Excellent food friendly staff but I stated I had a severe chocolate allergy when ordering my desert, I still had chocolate placed on my desert! A little more care on allergies is necessary. The difference between 4 star and 5 start

Went to the Meridian for lunch as I knew they had a reasonably priced lunch menu (£7 for baked potatoes, sandwiches/wraps with side salads/nacho chips/coleslaw etc and the 8 plates for £8). Ordered the prawn Marie rose baked potato and the lunch serving of scampi...

Cajun chicken crepe was lovely, staff always friendly and attentive. Very relaxed atmosphere 🙂

Been here a couple of times over the past 5 years and on my latest visit I was asked by my other half if I enjoyed my meal? All I could say was “ it was alright”. I would use again but not one of...

I popped into this place for dinner with my family, it was a tight squeeze but we managed, the food and drinks were overpriced and our drinks came warm with dirty cups, some plates were greasy and the cutlery wasn't that clean either. A worker came over and spoke to us and spoke about how the place was bad to work, the food wasn't that bad to be fair but i wouldn't recommend this place at all, but thats just my personal experience.

So this is joined onto the Ayrshire & Galloway Hotel. Having just spent the last 4 days staying at the hotel it was the breakfast option. Not been home for a while so generally just ate 2 rolls and slice for breakfast all mornings. Met some family and had breakfast also and they loved it. Full Scottish Breakfast. Can't go wrong..

We are just home from having a good meal with good service at the Meridian, liked the atmosphere too. But 3 stars due to the price of lemonade which I had because of driving - £3.40 for a half pint!! That makes it more expensive...

The menu is average, typical pub food which is overpriced.The drinks carry a hefty west end of Glasgow price list for far less quality and the most expensive soda water and lime in the country, at £3.40, The Ivy is less expensive. The staff are friendly and helpful, they get the star.

overpriced food and drinks, small portions and unhygienic restaurant. £3.40 for a bottle of coke and £10 for cocktails? i know brexit has caused prices to go up for certain things but charging that much for a drink is a joke. not to mention old food is wedged down the sides of the booth seats which staff can't be bothered cleaning! overall wouldn't give them the money and there are several other places in ayr where you can get your moneys worth :)

I've been to the Meridian several times. Always a top quality cut of steak, in this case Prime Fillet, perfectly cooked to medium rare. I like the big windows, easy to see into, I like the sense of space inside with lots of natural, varnished...

Visited Meridian for early evening meal for granddaughter. Meal was a high standard with good choices for children . Staff polite and helpful
