Disappointed in the approach that this business has decided to take. Members of the public were encouraged by the government to purchase vouchers in the hospitality sector to help them through the struggle of covid 19. We purchased vouchers during the Christmas period for friends to use at their sister restaurant “The Marram Grass” based on Anglesey. A few months later, during lockdown, The Marram Grass was voluntarily shutdown so that owners could focus on their restaurant in Liverpool named“Lerpwl”. Management promised that customers would receive a full reimbursement for their vouchers purchased to be redeemed at The Marram Grass, these promises were outlined in multiple North Wales newspapers and also on their social media. Trying to claim a “reimbursement” is a much more difficult task than they depict through local newspapers and their social media though. Email exchanges have taken place since The Marram Grass closed it’s doors, to try and source a refund, however, instead, we’re being forced to travel 80+ miles to attend Lerpwl to use the voucher there - in turn, exposing customers to increased risk of covid, especially to the elderly that would have to travel to Liverpool on public transport to attend Lerpwl. Multiple emails have been sent to this company to try to resolve this matter, instead management find it acceptable to ignore these emails. I’m sincerely disappointed in the way such a reputable company have handled this matter; if this is how they try treat customers supporting them through a global pandemic, I would suggest COMPLETELY AVOIDING THEM, NO MATTER HOW WELL THEIR DISHES ARE PRESENTED.

Absolutely loved it. We were a bit apprehensive as you don’t see the chefs menu on line before going and having now eaten there this is great as you will try things you might not usually go for! The food really is of the highest quality and the presentation and service was first class. If I could offer one slight issue a draft beer would be nice as it was only lager on draft but apart from that it was perfect. Go on treat yourself you won’t be disappointed!

We stopped in last Wednesday about 5pm and we were greeted and seated in a cosy corner of the restaurant. We tried several of the dishes from the main menu including the best tasting lobster and pasta dish and the catch of the day which was fresh and delicious. We paid about £60 for drinks, 3 savoury dishes, 2 amazing deserts and coffee. In fact we loved it so much we’re going back this evening to sample the Chef’s Menu. Can’t wait!

Although most of the tables are outside in a marquee we were offered a table inside what was the original farm shop. The staff were friendly an efficient. Food was very good. We all started with oysters, which came as fish and chips or Hanford mornay. Both were delicious. For mains we had pescidogs, sausage and mash and Fat pig sharing plate, which was pork collar. We also had parsnips, marrow and potatoes in sheep’s cheese sauce. Everything was well presented and delicious.

We had a lovely meal here after a long walk at Newborough forest/beach. I love the concept of small plates as I am always very indecisive and this way it means I don't have to choose!! The venue is quirky and somewhat mismatched to the food, but that all adds to its character. For those people complaining about the price, then all I would say is that you should research what kind of place it is before you come - this is Michelin quality food and therefore I found the prices to be reasonable. Plus they are clearly a small business and I was happy to be supporting them during these tough times. We had carbonara, pesci-dog, catch of the day (sea bass) and sausages and mash with sides of parsnips and sheep cheese potatoes. Loved all of it (except maybe the mash) - and washed it all down with a lovely couple of glasses of wine. The puddings that followed were divine! Will definitely be coming back here next time we visit the island.

We ended up at The Marram Grass by chance, as we'd just arrived in the area and we couldn't find anywhere else that was open. We were starving so we were probably willing to eat anything, and so didn't pay too much attention to the price at the time.We ordered a latte, diet coke, posh dog (£12.50) and pescidog (£12.50) which shockingly came to "JUST £31" (as the waitress said)..all for five bites of a main meal. As another reviewer on another site has put, we left hungry and ripped off. Since leaving the establishment, we have come to realise that you're probably paying for the chef who has been a finalist on The Great British Menu (or something similar) twice, and all the ingredients are home grown. However to us this doesn't excuse not giving us at least a side salad or some chips with the main. The pesci dog was a fish goujon in a nice looking slice of bread loaf, with courgette, capers and sauce. And the posh dog was similar but a sausage instead of fish. You could tell that effort had gone in to presentation, and the ingredients were slightly unusual, not what you'd normally get. However I was left with a chunk of bread with no flavour towards the end.The staff were great, and the service was quick. We were probably there all of 10/15 minutes including ordering and eating. Puddings were available at £7 each which I heard someone say were gluten free. When a neighbouring table's pudding arrived though that also looked tiny, so we steered clear of ordering that. If you're not fussed at paying £31 for some snacks, then it's probably worth a visit. If, like us, you're not willing to pay that much for a few bites then I would steer clear.

No one greeted us as we arrived, forgivable if it was busy but was not. Choice of tables were full of plates, directed to a table hidden behind a pole and by a shed. They said they’d clean the tables so we could move. This did not happen. Had to chase for service after being here for 25 minutes without being asked whether we wanted a drink. Ordered a posh dog. £12.50 for a small average tasting hot dog. Disappointing all round. The best thing about the visit was the quality napkins. Drove across Anglesey to come here. I would not return.

A warm friendly greeting; a polite & professional approach to managing and mitagating the risks associated with COVID-19; a limited, but extremly innovative seafood and pork menu, incl. sides & desserts; beautifully presented, tasty food made from locally sourced produce & ingredients - we loved it.Having seen Marram Grass mentioned last August in The Guardian's UK Top-10 Best Seaside Cafés and Beach Shacks, we booked-in for dinner having arrived nearby for a short holiday. We absolutely loved it. Sure, everyone had a hot-dog before; or a Fish Goujon; and a Lemon Possett; but the way each has been interpreted and innovatively presently here is excellent.

We knew before arriving that the menu had been changed because of COVID. We enjoyed our lunch. We both had mussels to start, flavoursome and enough for a starter, perhaps not as a main. We shared the fish of the day for our main course, turbot priced at £40. It was a good sized fish & plenty between two. Again it was well cooked & tasty. We had the potato side, which I found too rich & creamy. Wine by the glass is very expensive: £8.50 for a 125ml NZ Sauvignon. The service was very good & I would recommend.

We were so looking forward to eating here but were very disappointed. Food was just okay, very over priced for what it was and portion control taken to a whole new low level. If you want exciting food at a fair price and have an appetite then this place isn’t for you. To add insult to injury, either 1 of the 3 oysters I ate (at £3.50 each) or 1 of the 15 mussels on my plate (£10) gave me terrible food poisoning. Well this of course wasnt necessarily caused by the kitchen, more likely a duff crustacea, but when I ate so few of them then very unlucky on my part. I told the breakfast waitress the next day of my bad night, thought I may have had a follow up call. Still waiting.

I booked this for my husband’s birthday on Sunday as we had always wanted to try the Marram Grass after seeing Ellis on Great British Menu. Obviously due to Covid they have had to adapt and I did think the tipi concept with private sheds was a quirky way to deal with the circumstances. We liked the atmosphere and it didn’t feel like sitting in a tent on a caravan park at all. We went for the quality of the food and we were not disappointed. A full sea bass cooked with potted shrimps, brown butter and scallops with sides of sheep’s cheese potatoes and courgette with pork, onions and mustard were a winning combination in our book. The flavours really complemented each other and everything was well cooked. We followed this with the sticky toffee pots which were divine. No it’s not cheap but we weren’t looking for a budget meal - we wanted to experience Marram Grass cuisine in a way that was acceptable in the current climate. We came away full and extremely happy with the food we had enjoyed. A walk down to Newborough Beach through the nature reserve and back burned off some of those lovely calories and showed us how beautiful the area is. I would highly recommend.

The only reason I gave 1/5 is because the manager had the grace to not charge us for the drinks we ordered but didn’t drink and before we walked out. Other than that, our experience here was dire. I wish I had read trip advisor reviews before we came here 2 nights ago. Our first time in Anglesey and for our wedding anniversary, we chose this place based on Marram Grass reviews and when we booked a week earlier, it was still saying that....not the pop up that it is with limited menu. My cocktail came with a thin wedge of lime which had either been cut with a blunt knife or picked out of the bin? Details matter along with good service which, this place didn’t have. I‘m lad we decided not to spend our money here. Although we ended up paying £40 for a round taxi trip to have a bowl of popcorn masked as a ‘dish’ ( it had some fashionable truffle oil and cheese sprinkled on it), I think we got off lightly compared to some reviews I’ve heard. You know when you go into a cafe, restaurant or whatever and your gut feeling tells you it’s not going to be good? ....well yes. I am all for supporting enterprising businesses especially during the current times but don’t take the **ss!

Do not bother. From arrival we thought something was wrong. Lackadaisical attitude to greeting, table set up, cocktails (who doesn't know what a whisky sour is?) Then the menu. Nothing like in the pictures of past diners. Popcorn starter with truffle oil and cheese sounded intriguing. After all reputation for great food and all. What arrived was dire. Cocktails we did order were poor, from presentation to taste. Then we had to ask for a napkin and they were just kind of dropped on our table by a waiter with nose not covered by his mask with barely an acknowledgement. The food emerging for other tables looked like pretty average pub fare. I have never left a one star review before. But give his place trades on its past Michelin Star, does actually have a great reputation and the Barrie Bros are lauded as fantastic this deserves to be called out. The brothers have left the building. And they left it in charge of people who seemed fairly clueless.

After several attempts to get into the fully booked restaurant, they very kindly ‘squeezed’ us in on an afternoon (we’d been on a lovely, but wet walk down to Newborough beach-which was amazing too) We sat there and pretty much ordered most things on the menu, washed down with a lovely choice of beers and wine! Had the lamb, fish, hot dogs etc and the local mussels-unbelievable and in an amazing broth, soaked up with home made bread. It was a fantastic afternoon, and would definitely visit there again, thanks Matthew

Don't know if we caught them on an off day given all the great reviews, but we were totally underwhelmed by our Marram Grass experience. We booked to have breakfast here before spending the day walking on Anglesey, but the welcome was less than warm and the staff were less than engaging. On a positive note the food was very good, (which it should be at these prices) but the portions were small. My wife had the ham & eggs benedict and I had the salmon and eggs benedict and it might been a hearty-ish breakfast if it had came on a toasted muffin but it didn't. We came out £31.90 lighter and thinking about reaching into our rucksack for our muesli bars.Would we go back if we were ever on Anglesey again? Probably not.

Living locally, we have often been to what was the Marram Grass and I can honestly say I have never had a meal there that wasn’t fantastic. Sadly the white lodge didn’t live up to it. Super looking forward to a post summer rush / post lockdown meal out there. Firstly, I thought we had the lunch menu to be honest, a tiny mix of full meals and tapas but there really was not much on it. Usually the small menu does not bother me at all. But at 19:30 on a quiet Wednesday the only decent looking option (in the sharing plaice and scallop) was sold old. The pork chop was also now a bacon chop. After those amendments, it was basically just a hotdog stand. I’m definitely not too snobby for hotdogs, hotdog is no problem at all, a treat in fact. It just wasn’t very good at all sadly. Dry sausage, rather wet and oily fried bread and I’m not really sure why something tasting like kimchi was in there. The Mac and cheese described as “naughty” 3 separate times in the menu only felt naughty due to the sheer assault by truffle oil, which I can’t stand (maybe my fault for thinking actual truffle might’ve been used) There was probably some cheese in there too, I couldn’t tell. Just a bit rubbish. In fairness the bacon chop was fine but was a bit lacking as the only real “pig course”. A cauliflower main was tasty but basically an appetiser. The fruity Tom Collins tasted just like a budget vodka red bull which took me straight back to uni which I loved but most probably wouldnt. It was pretty overpriced as others always mention, but it always has been to be honest. That aspect certainly never feels like a problem when the food was as varied and tasty as usual however. Service was perfectly fine if a little haphazard and slow. C19 wise all felt perfectly safe.

There is a lot said about portion sizes, but that was expected, as I'd read enough to know what to expect. The pop facility is exactly that....For the prices charged, a few cushions wouldn't break the bank and make the sitting on basic wooden benches more comfortable & would help a lot.Glad I went, but I'll give it a miss in the future, at least until the C19 is over. Underwhelmed would sum it up and not good value for money.

Good tasting food but Small portions for the price We liked the quirkiness of eating in a garden shed with a view of the kitchen and it is good how the restaurant has adapted to these times with plenty of outdoor seating. We appreciated the hand sanitisers around the place and we liked the look of the menu and the overall concept which was interesting. The dishes were tasty but small. The mussels were in a delicious sauce but not enough for a main course and the macaroni cheese was tasty but again small. The hot dog was tasty. The desserts were very good. The savoury dishes were more like tapas portions. We liked having a view of the kitchen. However, in these times of a pandemic I was concerned when I saw a chef eat some bits of food that was to be used on customer’s dishes with his fingers and then pick up his mobile phone before plating up customers’ food without any evident hand-washing in between.

Went for breakfast and had the “our farm breakfast” the food was absolutely beautiful out of this world flavour profile. Service was great really friendly and covid safe. Coffee was delicious too. My only faults with the whole experience is that for the price the portion was tiny. Whilst i can appreciate provenance from my years in catering and hospitality and wasnt expecting a “builders breakfast” but for £13 i would have expected slightly more i would say that giving half of one slice of black pudding (semi circle) and half a tomato and 1 egg seems a little stingy (particularly the semi circle of black pudding which delicious), my partner asked to have breakfast without beans, most restaurants where shes made this request normally offer ask if shed like something instead but this didnt seem to be the case. Lastly i didnt think the orange juice was worth the price, at £3 for the type of restaurant i would have expected a fresh juice i.e johnsons fresh squeezed, not a generic pub style OJ But overall the food was out of this world, the fresh bread was just delish. Its just a shame we both left hungry or would easily be a 5* review

I ordered the vegetarian option of some kind of curried cauliflower and it was ok but the amount of food was simply ridiculous... For what is on offer is simply beyond belief! This was nothing more than an appetiser and the prices they charge are far too much. I walked out of the shed where they were serving their food and returned home and cooked myself a chilli as I was starving alongside the rest of our party. I was really looking forward to visiting here and have been for some time, unfortunately I am left disappointed and underwhelmed. We had the posh dog, basic one and fish goujon sandwich. The bread was delicious, but that’s unfortunately as good as it gets. The sausages were dry and the special fillings not special and for £12.50 these are not cheap. You get no sides and there aren’t really many options for sides for such a meal. The fish sandwich, also £12.50, we ordered for my 2 year old, she ate all the fish which shows how small this was, we only bought her this as there was nothing really suitable and we got it half price on the government scheme. My partner ordered a desert as he was still hungry, big mistake, only 2 deserts left so he went for the meringue, which we can only liken to a meringue you can buy from the supermarket, apparently it had a limoncello filling but it was so small that you couldn’t taste it! I feel the menu doesn’t read well and doesn’t really know what it wants to be. Sadly I can’t recommend this place and won’t be returning.

Wide range of dishes and drinks available, my only complaint was the confusing menu - wouldn't take much to rearrange and categorise the dishes. Service excellent (shout out to Luke who was brilliant) throughout the evening. Drinks good (pricey) but ok for treat. Food arrived on time, and tasted fine. I would return.

Lovely outdoor venue. (Covid: good social distancing, order via phone app which worked well, toilets available in unit in car park). Food was really delicious - agree with the reviews below on tapas-style portion size as we would probably have ordered more things to try had we known that’s how it worked. But loved the food which was really great and well presented (desserts were outstanding too). Book ahead, we would not have got a table otherwise - we booked online through their website.

The Marram Grass is a really cool outdoor venue and they’ve made a great effort to keep everybody safe and make eating there an enjoyable experience. The quality of the food can’t be faulted. The dishes we ordered (Charcuterie board and Pork Sharing plate for 2) tasted amazing and looked great when they arrived. However, I think it’s impossible to justify paying such a high price for so little food. At the prices they charge you don’t expect to have to order multiple dishes like you would with a tapas restaurant for example and you really don’t expect to leave feeling hungry! Lots of posts on here saying the same thing about value for money being really poor and I couldn’t agree more. To be told that an extra piece of bread would cost £3.50 sums it up. I would love to be able to recommend this place but I can’t.

Let's start with the positives - great tasting food, very inventive, lovely service, felt very Covid safe with outdoor (but undercover) seating, plenty of extra measures being taken, online ordering etc. What is not clear on the menu or the website is that it is a series of very small dishes that are meant to be stacked at least two or three per person. The crab rosti for example was stunning, but half the size of a credit card. It's not cheap - which i accept reflects the quality of the food, but clarity would make me ok with that.Anyway - first restaurant experience out post-Covid - i recommend coming on one o the half-price days and ordering lots!

We were excited to visit the pop up outdoor restaurant as a treat while on holiday. I liked the outside area and the tables were nicely distanced. We ordered the fried fish, the crab rosti, tomato salad and mac & cheese. The portions were exceptionally small for the price. For example the fried fish was £12.50 and was a very small square on a bed of mashed peas. The food quality was good but not exceptional, the service mediocre and we left hungry! We would have liked the portions to be explained by the wait staff as it seems they did with others. All in all I would not recommend - the fish (& chips) we had in Moelfre chippy was equal in quality and much better value!

Nice food but portion sizes beggared belief - all portions look and feel like tasters. I left the place feeling hungry I had to go to Menai and buy a portion of fish and chips. What a rip off £12:50 for a piece of fish that is less than a quarter the size of usual fish and it comes with no chips. The rest are the same £10 for about 10 mussels. Pico portions are a rip off - they should be reported.Terribly disappointing

Booked here on a Tuesday and made the most of the new voucher scheme. Seemed well organised for socially distancing and you had to order via an App. I found this really easy and very convenient but think more elderly visitors might struggle. Was a shame more seafood was not in the menu. I had the crab rosti which was delicious, followed by ‘Special pie’ Which was a pork mince with a potato foam. I loved it but my husband really didn’t. My daughter had the fried fish which whilst small, was lovely. Her highlight was the hot chocolate which was very inventive and fun. The waitress was very helpful and attentive. My main issue for not giving 5 stars Is the menu is a little restrictive especially for children.

Our lives seem now dictated by QR codes and on line ordering making service levels almost impossible to judge. At the Marron Grass the same applies.. ok app to order on line but I am sure it would have all been easier and quicker with pen and paper. Frankly we could have called out our order into the open kitchen.. oh well welcome to progress. Beyond that service was patchy and a bit frustrating.. from what we had.Venue-wise sitting adjacent to a caravan park and under an awning is also a bit odd but I guess it’s another part of our new normal but the benches and picnic tables were fine if basicFood-wise the menu promises exciting options. We could have happily ordered more as everything sounded local, sustainable and frankly delicious. On arrival the food was a feast for eyes. Beautifully presented and tasted amazing. The downside, as others have said, is that portions are small.. no tiny.. and I was as hungry when I left then when I arrived. We almost went hunting for fish and chips! If it wasn’t for Rishi’s dine out to help out £40 off it would have been over-priced.So there you have it.. Marron Grass is on trend for our new normal dining. Be prepared and maybe eat before you go..

We ate here on a Monday evening which meant that we got to benefit from the Government's "Eat out to help out" initiative. There were four of us and we all loved the food. We had the two each of the pork belly with side dishes of peas and tomato salad. We also ordered one each of the crab rosti to create a starter although the menu isn't set up for that. Adam, our waiter explained the concept to us that it was all based on sharing dishes - which was new to us. He also explained that it wasn't really a starters and mains kind of menu but we wanted to stick to tradition so had the crab first, which was accommodated. It was all gorgeous. The pork was immense. Two of our party had room for pudding whilst my mother and I had an espresso martini to round things off. Ok, it's weird sitting outside undercover on a picnic table, however in the current circumstances, if that's what is required for a top class meal then count me in. Good value, informed service and delicious food.

The food was good but not amazing. The atmosphere tepid and the service fair. The prices were high, the portions tiny and the menu limited especially if you don't eat fish. A 4" piece of heavily battered fish on a bed of peas without chips was £12.50. Hotdogs were nice but not worth the £12.50 price tag. 125 ml average wine for £6. We declined desserts as assumed they would be served on a spoon given the size of the mains. I guess you are intended to order lots of dishes but when it costs £85 for 3 hotdogs, 2 fish sans chips, 2 sides, 3 soft drinks and one wine and everyone is still starving we quit whilst ahead. The food wasn't good enough to justify it.

I hardly ever put a poor review on trip advisor but having read the most recent reviews I feel there is a need for balance unbiased opinion. I have nothing but the best wishes for the Barries but equally I have no connection. We visited for evening dinner. The covid rules were applied to a good level. We have eaten at the marram grass on a number of occasions and rated it as one of the best restaurants on the Island. Good food well cooked and priced accordingly. However this is a new concept and our group felt that the casual dining experience only went as far as the setting and dining area. The food as usual had excellent ingredients, well cooked as one should expect. I do not feel any restaurant visitor should expect anything less when parting with hard earned. The much anticipated sausages/hotdogs were good as were oysters in cream and cheese sauce. The lardo popcorn was a novelty. The crab rosti was very nice( both mouthfuls) and the mac and cheese also tasty as were the salads. With a few glasses of wine our bill was over £160. The atmosphere was flat and the dining area was almost empty. Not enjoying writing this review I always seek the positives of any dining experience. There are a number of good butchers on the Island producing sausages and pork products which Moch A Mor sausages are comparable the black pudding is tasty if a bit too sweet. I came I tried I paid my cash and unfortunately I will not be trying Moch A Mor again. Maybe if it returns to the Marran Grass. I have spoken to friends who have also visited and were not fans of the new breakfast offering. But I get the impression the idea of a "concept" has replaced the restaurant. Good luck to them.

Contrary to another recent review, we found the tables very well spaced out and good measures in place in terms of hygiene and social distancing. The food was absolutely excellent and dishes only a couple of quid more than you pay for pub grub. No brainer. We had oysters to start which were hands down the best any of us had eaten previously. I'm already planning to bring our summer visitors here and my parents are coming over next week with friends. In brief, if you have any dietary requirements avoid. The venue as it is, is unsafe. IF YOU HAVE A SERIOUS FOOD ALLERGY YOU MAY DIE IF YOU EAT HERE.I took my partner here to celebrate our first anniversary, she has a gluten allergy. We ordered the six-course set menu. Our second course was late because they had forgotten about her gluten allergy and had to remake the dish. Fast forward a couple of dishes and yet again the kitchen had forgotten about her allergy, this time the gluten made it out onto the plate to us. The front of house staff came to us just in time to stop my partner from eating the gluten (a pork nugget in this case), this was then replated, however, the same meal was just put onto another plate even though there was the potential for cross-contamination. At this point, my partner (who is a chef herself so is used to dealing with dietary requirements) decided that she had no faith left in the kitchen so declined the rest of the meal. I decided to also stop eating at this point, the front of house staff refunded her whole meal and discounted mine but this still left us with a hefty bill and a taxi home to pay for. I was unimpressed with the food, my partner, however, did enjoy the taste until she was almost poisoned (3 times I may add), so if you have no dietary requirements then take your chances but if you have any allergies or serious dietary requirements then please avoid at all costs! On the positive side of things, the front of house was WONDERFUL, they were so lovely to us the whole way through, we had incredible (locally sourced) wine pairings that were very well thought through, explained in extreme detail, and most importantly delicious. They were the saving grace of our night, I hope that in the future the kitchen will stand up to the standard that they present. I would like to make a special mention for the front of house manager (who was new when we visited in November 2018), he was incredibly kind and understanding. If it was not for the front of house manager our night would've been completely ruined. Sadly, despite his wonderful efforts we would recommend avoiding this restaurant as the kitchen is frankly dangerous, if you have no dietary requirements then your chances of enjoying the food is 50/50. I also visited this restaurant in November 2017 where I felt the food was inedible and the wait staff made my girlfriend of the time very uncomfortable by looking down her top the whole night. If you have a gluten allergy, celiac, mushroom allergy, nut allergy, shellfish allergy, tomato allergy, egg allergy, lactose intolerance, or any other serious dietary requirement then please avoid for your own safety.

We also opted for the wine pairing, what a great call that was! Every single course was incredible (we all wanted to ask for more of the turnip soup it was devine!) Plus it was all presented so beautifully and was the perfect amount of food, we left feel full but not over the top stuffed! The guy who served us explained each course so well and explained the wines - one of the Hungarian wines they served is possibly my favourite ever! So should you go? The answer is yes! Normally it’s great to choose your own tastes but this way you get some quite discerning dishes that you wouldn’t normally choose. In fact it adds to the dining experience when you know what you’ve had so far is amazing and there’s more tocome, you really do look forward to what’s coming next. The tastes and textures are really clever and if you are wondering whether to try it, we can only say you should. Definitely up there as some of the best food we’ve ever tasted. My daughter and I have eaten at a number of fine dining and Michelin starred places and The Marram Grass genuinely is exceptional. We are fortunate enough to be local and have been to the MG on several always wonderful occasions, and despite travelling many miles for our some of our dining experiences, really do love everything about Chef Ellis and The Marram Grass. There’s much to love about the restaurant. An iconic quirky old potting shed converted into a place of total style and comfort. A style of service that, whilst entirely “proper”, maintains a high level of warmth and welcome. I love how the waiter really knows every ingredient of what is in each dish. How every dish is locally sourced with even home reared pork. I love how the food is a total surprise, using the finest ingredients Chef has on the day. I love how beautifully divine each plate not only tastes, but looks. the flavours delicately complimenting each other, yet without over powering the main event. The food is imaginative, exciting and even made us teary with joy. I won't list every course we had , but I have to say Chef Ellis and his team have totally leveled up. It was brilliant before, but it is exceptionally excellent now. Genuinely can't wait to go again a truly very special experience. I personally think well deserving of a star! Thank you so much

It was lunchtime and fairly quiet - I wonder if everyone else was Christmas shopping? Food was delicious: mussels with Moroccan sauce for him and crab, celeriac rice and apple for me followed by fish of the day (cod) for both of us. We shared a crop exchange apple pudding too. I can only write to my experience but we both really enjoyed it and vowed that we won't leave it another 12 months before returning. We live locally and have known the Marram Grass since it began but haven't been since it has become 'famous'. When we first met Ellis he said he didn't want to go down the fine dining route yet this seems to be what he now offers, at the concomitant prices, but still in a rustic setting. For us it doesn't work. We could accept the tiny portions if there had been an intensity of flavour but I'm afraid the food was distinctly average and we found ourselves asking each other what we were eating. There were some highlights - the sourdough bread, the chocolate dessert - but also lowlights such as the amuse bouches - savoury beetroot soup and sweet fruit soup - which were far from amusing. We would love to see Ellis change his focus back to offering great quality local produce cooked honestly with the odd twist to emphasise the flavour but without all the fuss and pretentiousness that seems to detract rather than add to the experience. Looking at some of the other feedback however, perhaps we just caught it on a bad day or our expectations were misplaced.

Tried for 3 months to call this place so we could book and use a voucher friends had bought for us. The automated telephone system took you to places to book then just hung up on you, 3 months this went on. Finally Sunday just gone we thought today’s the day, I rang 5 times knowing they were open but again an inadequate answering service that eventually as usual hung up on you. I left my phone number on their website saying we want to book a table, no call back but cos the website said just pop in if your passing we drove 30 minutes to do just that. Got there , have we booked she asked , don’t go there, anyway no availability we were told. there were a few empty tables but told they were booked. They do know about their useless phone system by the way so why it’s not been addressed and fixed who knows? The only option open to us was to sit outside , it was a cold but sunny and dry day so we did, on a wonky table under some shrivelled grapes. The food was just okay but I’m going to say it, it was one meal split into two , no doubt they have a name for it to confuse you, very small portions indeed for the price. It is just a very expensive cafe. We settled up and there were still the same empty tables when we arrived, I asked why couldn’t we have sat there? booked was the reply, what time, couldn’t we have had our meal there and you just reset the table? No answer.

small quantities after some complexities. THere was an a-la-c art menu but this was not offered automatically, we were given the more expensive set menu options.

Arrived to find we had been upgraded and our room was beautiful. Spotless, really comfy bed and snuggly sofa with a large flatscreen on the wall instead of a tiny one. No noise whatsoever, other than the storm. Bathroom ultra modern with the best hotel shower I have experienced! Breakfast was beautiful with lots of choice and we ended up dining there every night too as the good was delicious. Our hosts were just charming too. Every staff member was smiling and attentive and we really were made to feel most welcome at all times. If you want to walk, it's a stretch down to the coastal path so there may be more convenient places for that, but if you want to be able to relax in the proverbial lap of luxury on your return from a long day walking, this is perfect - and we can vouch for that!

Woburn Hill Hotel Grill Restaurantlocation-iconHigh StreetBritish

We booked a table one evening, just in case, even though it was for early in the evening just after start of service. Very friendly and efficient staff and we were made very welcome. The menu is quite comprehensive and very reasonable. My wife had fish pie and I had the chicken tikka masala. Although I like curries which are on the 'sporty' side, their offering was full of flavour and I think that two completely cleared plates speak for themselves! Ice cream for dessert finished everything off nicely. We don't like being overfaced with astronomic portions so found Woburn absolutely perfect. I felt that I could have even managed a starter as well!Give Woburn Hill a try - we will consider a few nights there as well in the future.
