The Market Inn in Brighton and Hove

Stayed here two night with my partner and we loved it. The food is excellent and the people are lovely, highly recommended.

Normally thoroughly disappointed with pub grub nowadays as most venues charge too much for too little, but had the Pulled Chicken sandwich with chips and the sandwich was great,

A great traditional pub that sells a good local bitter.

Have had an amazing stay here,great staff ,so friendly,nothings too much for them,just had a wonderful breakfast brought to our room ... wonderful stay will definitely return ,the location is perfect xx

We were playing a dart match at the Market Inn ( us being the away team) . Seemed a bit strange walking into the pub that I once lived in, The Former Golden Fleece ( 1969 / 1990) my Dad died there in 1989 , I became joint licensee with my Mum until 1990. So you can understand my feelings in the pub ,dart board was where my Dads fish tank was. Gentleman behind the bar was very pleasant. We won our match .

Had a great time staying here, room was spacious and a lovely breakfast in the morning. Staff were really helpful and great service. Would definitely stay here again!

I meet a relative of mine who lives in Brighton and we always go to this pub for lunch. Never fails to cook and serve a good roast dinner with apple crumble for pud.

The pub inside was very nice with a cosy feel, the beer let down, went into the pub hoping to get a real ale, one was not ready, had a pint of local Suffolk beer, but was cloudy, bar lady wasn't happy with it, finally got a clear pint 20 minutes later (other half had nearly finished her drink). So the question is would I visit again? Most probably not.

The bar in the middle doesn't leave much space for tables, but all in all nice pub. Good music.

Abbiamo scelto questo pub perché pieno di persone inglesi, se frequentato dai locali vuol sicuramente dire che si mangia bene. E così è stato! Abbiamo preso il fish&chips, ottimo!, e un festive sandwich con turkey stuffing and cranberry...divino! Super consigliato agli amanti del cibo e dell' atmosfera prettamente inglesi.

Dashed round the lanes and decided to have a warming tot of whiskey as was cold and windy. The pubs are very much like London pubs in layout and this was the case. Weren’t there long but seemed pleasant enough. Probs not a place to spend the night if two of you 🤔

First visit today. Hard working very professional bar staff. Warm, welcoming atmosphere. Great food and the perfect pub to visit after shopping in The Lanes. Dog friendly. Highly recommend this traditional pub. So pleased we found it.

Love this pub we pop in here for a drink on our way into town good selection of drinks and although we have never eaten here the food always looks good

Really friendly, ‘old fashioned’ in sense serves decent quality; sensibly priced ‘pub grub’, with excellent range of draft beer; friendly service - food arrived in reasonable time. Great crowd - well a few locals - to share sport beamed into pub making it an enjoyable evening - thanks you.

Went to meet friends and have lunch. Manager was very accommodating as they were showing a football match. Staff friendly. Food was very nice and reasonably priced.

So unfortunately i didn't get to stay here as I messed up my booking and done it for next year but the manager was so helpful and rang round to help me find a place to stay so I wasn't stuck. The hospitality he gave me was spectacular and I couldn't thank him enough for the time and effort he gave me to make sure I wasn't without a place to stay. Such an star and anyone who would stay would receive amazing customer service. He puts himself out past a "job role" and you can tell he is just a people person that wants to help and the world needs more people like him.

There was originally 6 of us, but turned into 10 and the staff very polite aswell, after a few drinks we got a little loud, but the management and staff took it all in their stride...we met for lunch at noon and stayed until late evening...great venue, staff and ambience 😊😊

Small, traditional pub at the entrance to the lanes. Easy to overlook but worth a visit. I had a ploughman's - generous serving of cheese and salad, reasonably priced which is a plus in a tourist centre like Brighton.

My cold was kicking because he was tired so we split from our party. We eventually returned and the owner was an absolute star. He engaged our child and went causally above and beyond to help out. Drinks, straws, fist bumps, jokes, anything to be fun. If you don't go here you ARE missing out. On top of this the food was great and not expensive.

Wouldn’t bother with this place if you have family Walked in, sat down, two adults, four children aged 14. Only trying to have a quick drink and a rest. Had an abrasive staff member come over and ask if we were all 18. Obviously they weren’t , but we just wanted soft drinks. We were told to leave and turfed us out. This pub is extremely old fashioned and dated in their approach. Also lots of looks from the older generation in the pub. I think this was down to us being a mixed couple with mixed children.

Fish and chips was awful. Fish was small, thin, grey and so rubbery that I couldn't cut it with my knife. Sent it back and second one was a bit better but not great. More batter than fish. Realise it was part of a deal but should still be edible.

Such tasty food and warm welcome, thank you Peter! Search no further for better restaurant in Brighton, it is so authentic.

Busy pub but landlord made us very welcome, lunch was excellent , portions good and clean plates said it all. Excellent position for Lanes and beach

We stayed for two days and evenings. Super warm welcome. Room was very comfortable and we slept like babies. Having the “best” breakfast brought to the room was great. Couldn’t get a better central location. Ps Donatellos restaurant door is a must

Located in The Lanes this is a cosy traditional pub that's well worth visiting. Decent selection of ales, nice food and friendly staff. It can get busy at times though.

Visited here for a quick pint this week whilst wandering the lanes. Seemed popular with locals and was pretty busy for a midweek early evening. Bar man was pretty grumpy and not at all welcoming. Drinks were average in both taste and price.

I was in Brighton for an event I attend annually and I always take a stroll into The Lanes. A wonderful, eclectic area of the town that has a continental feel to it. As usual, I picked a pub to have lunch and decided on The Market Inn. I was greeted by a very pleasant young lady and, as my preference for lunch is cider, I asked what draft cider she had. Only a poor brew, unfortunately so I then asked for a beer brewed locally. She pointed to a beer pump that was called, I seem to remember, West Pier. It was off! A Brighton pub that has run out of Brighton beer? Oh well, I had a pint of Adnams.

Came today, Wednesday 13th, witha group of students. Absolutely spotless and cosy place. The Fish and Chips best we have had so far. Great service. Fast. All great. Lovely atmosphere. Location priceless.

Pasó muchas veces, nunca me aventuré a entrar, realmente no sé por qué, pero parecía un poco más tranquilo de lo normal, así que pensamos que podríamos conseguir una mesa. Me alegro de haber entrado cuando lo hicimos porque comenzó a llenarse poco después.

Lucky to walk past this one. Food was delicious. Had shanks and mash, my husband had sausages and mash. Both delicious. Stop in you won’t be disappointed.

Siempre un pub encantador para visitar en el corazón de Brighton, cálido y acogedor en invierno, asientos al aire libre para el verano. Buena selección de bebidas y comida. Nos sorprendió gratamente encontrar tantas opciones para vegetarianos en el menú. Ambos tuvimos la lasaña de verduras y nos gustó mucho. Viene con una ensalada fresca y pan de ajo en el lateral, así que fue una comida de relleno. La chica del bar fue muy amable, y fue agradable escapar de la concurrida calle por un rato y sentarse en un lugar un poco más tranquilo. A mi me recomienda!

I have been frequenting this pub since I was 16 and it was called The Golden Fleece back then, so therefore still call it by that name.

My mum and I popped in for a (very late) lunch on a Friday afternoon. The service was good and the food arrived fairly quickly (I think we waited around 10 minutes). Our meals, overall, were very tasty and enjoyable. The only downside is that it might have been a tad on the pricey side compared to other pubs of a similar quality. Saying that, however, we did get 2 meals, a soft drink, and a tea for just over £20.

I tend to frown upon bad reviews on tripadvisor. So I shall give credit where it is due first. The girl who served us at the bar was both polite and attentive. I would have no hesitations in giving her a job. I can't fault the food, it was really nice and tasty.

Le Lanes di Brighton sono piene di locali dove mangiare, di tutti i generi, noi abbiamo scelto questo perché ci è sembrato molto tipico, e non ci siamo sbagliati. Un pub dei più classici, vissuto, interamente coperto di moquette, e pulitissimo. Due aspetti lo rendono eccellente: la bontà dei piatti, abbondanti ad un prezzo ragionevolissimo, e la gentilezza della cameriera di origine italiana che ci ha coccolato dal primo all'ultimo momento. Ci ha spiegato tutto il menu, aiutandoci per scegliere il piatto adatto per la nostra bambina, e più volte è passata a chiedere conferma che tutto andasse bene, senza essere mai invadente. Lo raccomandiamo tanto!!

Mi esposa y yo estuvimos en mientras los carriles y disfrutamos muchísimo. Tanto así que volvimos después de la cena en otro lugar. El personal era amable y esa noche muy acogedor. Gran lugar para sentarse su vagabundo después de un día caminando los caminos. Aunque no comimos aquí, la comida seguro atractiva.

Metimos en una copa. Qué lugar tan encantador pequeño. Ojalá nos hubiéramos encontrado antes paramos a desayunar en otro lugar. Personal amable, tomé café, que fue estupendo, y mi marido tenía una pinta de amargo. Utilizamos el inodoro y me quedé sorprendido de lo limpios que son, de hecho, el lugar parecía muy limpio y bien cuidado. Se prueba la comida la próxima vez.

After a few hours shopping and walking around Brighton's sights we stumbled upon the Market Inn. Nestled near the Laines, its ideally suited for a bite to eat or just a drink. They serve food all day and as we wanted a late lunch/early supper sort of meal we decided to order. We had their sharing platter to start (which was huge and is a meal in itself) followed by a steak and a chicken burger. Steak was cooked as asked and was tender but not as flavoursome as would be expected and the chicken burger was a mite dry which was a shame as it was very tasty. Service was prompt and friendly. Nice pub with good ale, food could be a tad better but overall was ok.

After not really enjoying the busyness of Brighton we were looking for somewhere quiet to sit and get some food with our dog. As it turns out there isn't many dog friendly places so it was a relief to find this place. We stayed here for a while and had a nice time. I enjoyed the venison burger and curly fries, I felt like a big kid as I haven't had curly fries in years. It was very good sized portions, nicely cooked and good service. Would highly recommend as a get away from the hussle and bussle.
