Visited the Malt Shovel to celebrate my partner’s mum’s birthday. We all had throughly excellent roast dinners (with a vegan tart tatin) within the comfort of a charming beer garden. Everything was well cooked, fresh and nicely presented. As a roast connoisseur I could not fault this meal, it was that good and lived up to the excellent reviews. The drinks itself were served promptly and were perfectly chilled. The waiters were very attentive and nothing was too much trouble. 10/10 will be coming back soon!

Had a takeaway for Mother’s Day. I collected our meals yesterday to reheat today. Absolutely amazing as always. Loads left over. Beef lovely & tender & turkey had all the trimmings. Best roasts ever. Made a lovely Mother’s Day not having to cook. Reheating instructions too. Very reasonable price too. Thank you so much Neil & family.

Should get up to this pub more often. We had popped in for a drink. Ended up having a chat with Neil (the man in charge of everything!). He said he was not doing meals during the week but was still doing Sunday roasts. You do need to book a week in advance so we booked. We duly turned up for drinks and our eagerly anticipated meal. We both plumped for the roast lamb.2 dinners turned up. Lamb, parsnips, roast potatoes, peas, broccoli, carrots, cauliflower cheese and homemade gravy! My guest is very particular about her roast dinners.... well ours was eaten in almost silence. The meat was tender and tasty. The rest of the dinner was fantastic. Neither of us left very much indeed and that was due to being full up! This was a home made special. I would be proud if I could cook as well as this. After a bit of a wait we did have a small dessert - I had ice cream which is not really filling! As the heading says a five star rating does not do this meal justice.

When booking the restaurant we were asked which meat we would like to order. This felt out of place when booking two weeks prior to dining. The vegetables were cooked well not overdone although I thought the cheese sauce was from a packet - it had a "plastic" taste and there was certainly far more than we could eat. The meat was "ok" but the chicken looked unappetising anaemic just two chunks of white meat and the roast pork had little taste. The staff were very friendly but slightly inexperienced - delivering drinks to our table but not taking away used glasses or food bowls. I was disappointed as it is obviously a popular inexpensive pub for lunch .

Family lunch to celebrate birthday. 6 adults and one child. What a surprise! Best lunch we’ve had in ages. Lamb, beef, pork and chicken for the grandson were all cooked to perfection and came served with potatoes, parsnips, Yorkshire pudding and gravy. Bowls of veg were then served plus a bowl of cauliflower cheese and extra gravy. Desserts were good too. The service was good, the staff pleasant. Will definitely be going back. Good value. My cousin had wanted to host her baby shower here, we was advised by email to go in and see somebody about the area. When we arrived there was a lovely lady behind the bar that showed us around. My cousin called the next day to confirm she would like to go ahead and book but was advised the manager would call her back, a week later and no call back, she called again today and was passed over to the manager who was very arrogant, rude and unhelpful, the way he spoke to my cousin was disgusting and he quite clearly doesn’t want to hold functions at his pub so not sure why he advertises it. We will no longer be holding the baby shower there or 30th birthday drinks we was going to enquire about and will be sure to tell everyone else the same!

Lunched her on a Saturday. The barmaid was very friendly and, despite a large crowd arriving before the Dartford v Woking football match, remained efficient in her service and kept smiling despite being extremely busy. The beer here was excellent as it always is serving St Austell Tribute, Proper Job and Youngs Special and Ordinary Bitter. We had the burger and the chicken burger for our meal which tasted great and was just the right size for lunch and reasonably priced. The pub is spacious inside and, on warm days, there is a terraced courtyard garden overlooking Dartford. Definitely the best pub in Dartford.

Just under 20 of us descended on the malt Shovel for an evening of catch up. The staff were very very friendly and the pub itself was very clean and fresh. We were in the conservatory area which was nice and clean as well as being illuminated by natural light. The buffet was quickly, and efficiently, set up for us and the selection was wonderful and they did us very proud. The food was wonderful and I could only find one small fault and that was there were not enough chips to go all around, but that did not matter as everything else was really good. I strongly recommend The Dartford Malt Shovel in Darenth Road. As a footnote there is ample parking on site and along Darenth Road itself as well as a regular bus service called the "Fast Track" that runs alongside the Darenth Road. I will certainly be coming here again.

We are not from this area and we booked a table looking at the reviews in Dartford and this one thought it might meet our match. First of all the outside was nice however you can see that it has not been cleaned and there was cigarette butts everywhere on the floor. The toilets were awful full of dust and dirt. I am very surprised that there has been no inspection at this place. We had to have the meal inside and we ordered the food and the our surprise they had no fish and chips and the tempera prawns. We waited for over 50 mins and there was no sign of the food and we had three children waiting. We kept asking for our food and they said it wont be long, anyway at last the food arrived about nearly waiting one hour. When the food arrived everyone enjoyed the meal however was that because we waited so long and everyone was hungry. As we complained we got free desserts to say sorry. If you are in a rush and what your meal to arrive at reasonable time then I would say please avoid this place.

I've been coming to the Malt Shovel for decades. Neil and Ann are the nicest landlord and lady you could meet. The dinners are delicious and the pub is cosy, comfy and friendly.

Have eaten here on a Sunday lunchtime on many occasions as the food is so good. However, I have to say that this Sunday the meal was one of the best Sunday lunches I have ever had. The portions are large and meat melts in the mouth - roast potatoes to die for and Anne's cauliflower cheese is a legend. You will not be disappointed if you choose a Sunday lunch here.

We turned up off the cuff whilst out shopping in Dartford when we really fancied a Roast Dinner, not knowing the area very well we googled 'best Roast in Dartford' and this place came up, and it was no Joke! In fact I'd go so far as to say this was the best pub food I've ever had and the nicest Roast dinner I've ever had (apart from mamas of course). Despite being fully booked up the staff were amazing and squeezed us in, the place is quaint and has a real friendly old style pub vibe (my favourite kinda place), and just to be clear the food was AMAZING! We will definitely be going back, and making sure we book up next time too, thank you Malt Shovel, what a great place!

This has to be the best Sunday lunch ever. The food was faultless. There were five in our party and were told when we arrived that the restaurant was fully booked for lunch. Fifteen minutes and one drink later we were approached by a member of staff who said that a table had become free, were we still interested in eating, but it would take a little while to seat us as they had to cook more food? We said, yes we were still interested and at the most we only waited for half an hour. As mentioned above, the food was faultless, the staff really helpful and the atmosphere was lovely. We all enjoyed our lunch and will definitely be going back for more

Have been here a few times, and loved every visit. The food is always amazing and fresh. They do a fantastic Sunday roast although booking is required days and sometimes weeks before a Sunday- it is worth it though! Atmosphere is great and staff are very friendly!

My friend booked a table for 4. Our food was lovely and well presented. The pie is scrummy and my friends really enjoyed their fish and chips. Pudding was also very tasty and the price was reasonable. Would recommend and we will return. Staff very friendly.

Went here for Sunday lunch. Food was amazing and plentiful. Good and friendly service. Best cauliflower cheese I've had in years. Wine glasses a little dirty but that's the only complaint. Will be returning!

Once again the food was superbly cooked, well presented and of very generous proportions (see my previous review). The staff are lovely. This time we had to order at the bar as there was just one lady serving when we arrived but she calmly coped with my food-fussy friend's questions. The table we'd booked in the conservatory turned out to have a large group of rather loud people next to it and we couldn't hold a conversation with our friends so we asked to move and this was accommodated pleasantly and without any bother. After we'd eaten we went into the very bright and pleasant outside seating area for coffee and, all in all, had a very enjoyable time. Highly recommend the Malt Shovel.

I attended a business dinner with my wife. Naturally everyone was very friendly but the pub had an olde worlde motif that was quite charming. The food was good and plentiful and the meeting was highly convivial. The group was about 30 so it was fine for a biggish group, perhaps a cosy little birthday or anniversary celebration.
