It can be something of a challenge when one person is vegetarian and the other is not; however, based on reviews, we decided to try the Station Road Restaurant recently while on a trip to Orkney. Unfortunately, the dining experience was particularly disappointing due to the basic and quite bland vegetarian option. We opted for the three-course tasting menu, and were presented with menus which provided a choice of both starter and main course for the normal menu, but no choice whatsoever for the vegetarian menu. If you are going to charge the same amount for a vegetarian (which is the case), the menu should at least be extended to a choice of starter and main. The vegetarian starter (spelt risotto) was fairly bland, while the main course, a tomato and courgette tart, was dry and uninteresting. It was also accompanied by a separate bowl of gnocchi which seemed a strange addition in the circumstances. Unless you wanted the cheese board to follow, the only option for dessert was a treacle tart. To have a vegetable tart as the only main course followed by a treacle tart as the only dessert was extremely poor planning. Overall, the service was friendly and efficient; however, the food was not of a standard we were led to expect and the overall experience was unsatisfactory.

Wow! We expected good but this was wonderful. Started with the crab cannelloni and it just kept getting better. I had the cod and she had the lamb. Both were wonderful. Then we had the dark chocolate cremeaux for dessert. We can’t say enough about how good this was. On the bad side it has ruined the rest of the meals we’ve had so far on our trip. It will really be hard to top this.

We stayed in the Lovat for a night and decided to come to the hotels restaurant after reading some of the raving reviews about it. The price was definitely worth it as the presentation looked good enough to eat just by itself! An excellent meal to have next to Loch Ness and I capped it off with some of the best ice-cream I’ve ever had. Truly a 5 star experience to remember.

We recently did an overnight tour of the highlands out of Edinburgh and were booked by the tour company into this hotel. We had no idea what to expect. The hotel is a gem but we will forever remember meal we ate as "our perfect dinner." Everything was delicious and beautifully presented. Make a reservation here. This wonderful boutique restaurant is the best in town and has a great menu with extreme attention to detail. There is a massive gin list and excellent cocktails (try be Zombie). We had salmon appetizer and also the tomato salad. For a main avoid the Fearherblade steak and head for the venison or Monkfish; the oysters for an appetizer are also excellent. The desserts are pure art, try the “Phish food”. We also tried the risotto which was a good vegetarian pick.

We hadn't expected such a delicious dinner in as slightly an out of the way place as Fort Augustus - but were pleasantly surprised. Starters enjoyed by us were a delicious salad of beetroot and feta, and a Scottish asparagus dish. We both had the pancetta-wrapped monk fish; and then amazing pudds, wrapped in frozen outer cases somehow or other, one supposedly a lemon tart, and the other mango panacotta - staggering creations! My husband said his lemony pudd was the best he'd had ... ever ...! Congratulations to the chef!

Food was of the highest standard, I had the Venison Bresola and the 'Featherblade' and both were superbly prepared and cooked. Having only been able to find standard (but good) pub fare elsewhere, we wandered to The Lovat. Here we experienced friendly, knowledgeable staff, a warm welcome from the owner, fine dining, an amazing choice of Whiskies and Gin, a great selection of wine and a lovely lounge to retire to with a coffee. Yes, you pay for the quality of dining, but it is well worth every penny. Service was personal but not intrusive, the food was delicious with a well thought out choice, and beautifully presented. We were fortunate to go in November when it was not too busy, but were also informed of their a la carte restaurant (not open that evening), where I imagine the dining to be even better ( if that is possible). I cannot recommend this more highly.

After struggling to find good restaurants in and around Fort William we ventured north to The Lovat at Fort Augustus on the recommendation of Trip Advisor. I'm so glad we did! It was by far the best 2 meals we ate during our week in the Highlands (yes we went back for a second time). The restaurant staff were very friendly (the barman was a bit curt) and the standard of food was superb. I had the smoked salmon for starters on my first visit and stuffed mushrooms and lambs liver on my second. Both were excellent, perfectly presented and cooked. For main on my first visit i had slow cooked lamb on a creamed barley which was simply stunning, so good in fact i had it on my second visit. My wife had the braised Ox cheek which was also cooked to perfection. Portions were on the small side but perfect to allow room for a desert. We shared the sticky Toffee pudding which was so light and moist and was followed by a coffee. If you are able to try The Lovat i would highly recommend it.

First, it might be noted that there are not a lot of options in Fort Augustus for dining, and even fewer if you take the pubs out of the list. Even so, this is a superb place. We found the ambiance quite relaxing, the service staff to be most friendly and courteous, the food to be outstanding (of course, it helps if you like either fish or game, or both) and the views of the area to be an extra amenity.

Went here as was recommended by the owners of the b and b across the road. My husband had the scotch broth to start but unfortunately didn't like it as it was quite tasteless. When the waitress asked if he had enjoyed it he said no as it wasn't really his taste, she didn't like this answer and quite rudely asked what was wrong with it.When we were halfway through the main course the chef came to ask if it was okay. When we said yes he cheered and said yes we've found something he likes. The staff made reference to the fact that he hadn't liked the starter at every opportunity. Won't be going again. We visited Fort Augustus as a group of 6, whilst sailing across Loch Ness celebrating my parents 60th birthdays. We booked for dinner last minute and was pleased they could accommodate such a large party for an early dinner booked for 6pm. The restaurant was empty when we arrived which we would later find out was a bonus as after we had ordered and the restaurant started to fill up we heard that some of the main courses we had ordered were sold out. The food presentation, taste and quality was amazing and everyone enjoyed the evening. An added bonus and always a positive in my opinion is that the restaurant is dog friendly, I only wish more bars & restaurants would follow suit. Why should well behaved dogs be left at home when they could join in the great atmosphere and social life of their owners. Some of the dishes we enjoyed were, (Starter) Mussels, Ham & Chicken Terrine, Crispy Coated Egg. (Mains) Beef Short Rib (sold out after we ordered) Steak, Sea Bream & Pork Belly. Also Run & Raisin Ice Cream to die for.

We booked a meal at the Lovat Brasserie to finish off an enjoyable week in Fort Augustus. After reading the positive reviews we anticipated a good quality meal. We were, however, most disappointed with both the service and the food quality. After an 'OK' starter our steaks were both tough and cold. The waiter said they would re-do the meal and took the plates away. When returned we found that it was the same steaks that had simply been re-heated. They were warmer, burnt were still tough. We also had to ask for fresh chips as they too had gone cold whilst waiting for the steaks to be re-heated. To add insult to injury, we were offered some more bread whilst we waited for our delayed food. We were charged for the extra bread. We would not return to this restaurant. Earlier on in the week we visited the Boathouse restaurant. The food and service there was excellent.

Hadn't booked anywhere and Fort Augustus was very busy so we stumbled across this beautiful hotel. They could fit us in so we had a drink before had in the lounge whilst reading the menu. Menu was small but with great choice. I opted for the slow cooked beef rob and most of the other party members ordered sirloin steak. We were taken through to the table. The dining room was beautifully done out but I felt the tables were very close to each other. We waited around 30 mins for the food which I thought was ok. My beef rib was very tough and I felt it needed another good hour / 2 hour cooking, the root veg was a little hard and there was very little sauce accompanying the actual dish. 2 of the steaks were not cooked to my family's liking and didn't want to send back to have another wait. We didn't have a dessert we paid the bill and left.Overall lovely place but needs to work on nailing the food and they will go far

Had a fantastic meal while staying at the attached hotel. Seems to be a pretty "fancy" establishment, with nice attentive (but not too attentive to be intrusive) service. Had an excellent salmon fillet, with nice dry white wine, and enjoyed the panoramas to the east of the dining area.

We decided to go to the brasserie for our final night of our honeymoon in the highlands. What a good decision. We both had the ox cheek for main and it was absolutely fantastic. Why they gave you a knife was beyond me. It just fell apart and melted in the mouth. We had the dark chocolate mouse and the Bakewell tart for desert which was just as good as the mains. The staff were all friendly and very attentive without going over the top. We had an amazing meal to finish off our trip to the highlands. If we're in the area again we will definitely be back.

Un restaurante con unas presentaciones y un trato de la comida poco habituales en la zona. También algo más caro, aunque lo vale. Buena carta de vinos. Dispone también de un menú infantil alejado de lo habitual, con opciones más variadas y saludables.

A great find in Fort Augustus. Pleasant surroundings with professional service. Varied menu with focus on quality Scottish produce. Highlights for us included venison and slow cooked on cheek. Really delicious!

Visited the area while boating and looked at TripAdvisor for the best place to eat. The LockInn was number one and The Lovat Brasserie was number 2.We visited The Lock Inn for a drink and although it looked fine, the menu at The Lovat Brasserie looked less heavy. Wow, how glad we were that we went to the Lovat. The food was just great. Lamb shoulder: phoar; Mushroom Risotto: bingo; and venison burger: snap. Very tasty food and a half decent wine list too. We had the Chimney Rock Napa Valley 2012 Sauvignon Blanc/Sauvignon Gris mix and it was excellent.

Outstanding helpful friendly staff, bar area is welcoming and staff cheerful, our evening meal was cooked to perfection. My husband had steak which In his opinion was one of the best he's had (he likes steak) I opted for mushroom risotto which was delicious, Will definitely return this year that's 9 hours from us, well worth a stay in hotel

This restaurant is inside the Lovat Hotel. We had dinner there after leaving Loch Ness. The atmosphere was warm and cosy, and the restaurant was packed with few large groups when we were there. So it's better to call and reserve a table beforehand. Food was good and very well-presented.

Food is well presented and generous portions. Prices are about right for what you would expect to pay in any good restaurant/

On the basis of other reviewers' comments, I'd expected something special. It's okay, but nothing to write home about. On the positive side, it wasn't expensive, and the menu offers alternatives to the "fish & chip" fare that is ubiquitous in these parts, but overall the smaller pubs in town are a better prospect for parties of 2-4 people.

What a fantastic range of pies. We tried a few varieties in our two weeks in the area and all were lovely. The outside seating area is also great if you’re lucky enough to find a free table. We will definitely be back and may be buying same of their mail order pies in the meantime!

Well worth a visit. I was disappointed that the pub was shut but this place made up for it. Good food, great service and a cracking view. Many thanks.

Leider mussten wir bei unserem heutigen Besuch feststellen, dass der Vinage Tearoom geschlossen wurde. Die einzigartige Inneneinrichtung, der nette Service und die grossartigen Kuchen werden uns fehlen !

Frozen fish and chips Expensive for poor food. Should be fresh product for the price we paid £9 just a rip off TBH. Just because we are tourists DO NOT RIP US OFF PLEASE.
