The Little Coffee House in Selby

We where meeting family half way between Hull and Leeds . Trying to find a gluten free friendly place can be tough but this place ticked all the right boxes . I text before we got there to double check on gluten free options . My partner who is celiac was over the moon with all the options available to him . Not only was it great food but also very generous portions , none of us left hungry . Our hosts where delightful , we where reassured that contamination was carefully considered , Nothing was too much trouble and all done with a smile . Thank you once again we will be back .

Looking for somewhere for a light lunch and found the reviews of this little cafe. We didn't book but we were able to get in on a Saturday lunchtime although a lot of tables were reserved. A large selection of food available, all prepared to order. Various toasted sandwiches and panini available and very nice they looked. I had chicken, chorizo and mozzarella with side salad and handmade crisps. They also have a selection of scones and cakes. Would definitely call again if in the area.

This is an amazing coffee shop within Selby town. I have visited a couple of times in the past and have never been disappointed. Today I met with a friend for a coffee and a scone and once again the service was amazing. The coffee shop is lovely and cozy. The staff are always kind and happy to help in anyway they can. I can highly recommend.

Lovely place, me and my daughter went for dinner, she got her dinner free when I bought from adult menu, so welcoming owners are so lovely, definitely recommend

I was actually here twice, once for breakfast and once for lunch. Good vegan meals both times. Pleasant staff, superb toilets.

I called at The Little Coffee House on Thursday with a group of cycling friends. I hadn't been for a few years, but I definitely won't be leaving it as long before I go again. Everyone agreed that the food and coffee they had was excellent and good value. I'm coeliac and the selection of gluten free savoury and cake options was very good. I had a bacon, sausage and mushroom roll and the biggest piece of lemon meringue cake I've ever seen. The cafe was quite busy but we were all well look after by the friend team.

We stopped on our way up to Scotland for a family break. We had the breakfast wraps and they didnt disappoint. Incredible food and a lovely cafe!

Can’t recommend this place enough, we’re the studio next door and Tim and Mandy welcomed us straight away, we go nearly everyday they’re open for our breakfast and sometimes dinner too! Very polite and welcoming, amazing food too and be sure to defo look at their cakes, yum! The cafe is always full of friendly people and smiles, I’m so happy to see it being so successful and I hope they’re around for many more years to come! Iv also been here with my children too, great family area to just chill and grab a snack. Highly recommended

As regular customers of the Little Coffee house I'm really surprised at some of the recent negative reviews as it contradicts our experience of the place. Yesterday my wife and myself were in for our weekly treat (lunch out), I had the full English Breakfast and it is a regular choice for me as it always looks and tastes appetizing, bit healthier than some as lots of it is done in a Air Fryer so never swimming in fat. The Wife loves their Omelettes, not sure what the secret is but she claims they are the best she has had. The other positive is food is cooked fresh once you order. We also use the place for coffee often and must say the cakes are the best I've witnessed in the area, often the homemade cheesecake my choice. As said earlier we are regulars but consider the owners and staff friends because of the way we always get treated there. We discovered the place over 4 years ago and been using it ever since which we wouldn't if it wasn't as good as the many positive reviews on here.

I met a friend here for lunch at their request and did not check the reviews. Overall, service was slow, owners were disinterested in new customers and food was ok but I wouldn’t recommend for the price. After a cold visit, I decided to check the reviews to see if perhaps it was just my experience. Not only did I read the reviews, I also read the responses of the “owners”. Just by their responses I could tell they have no respect for customers or people in general. On one response, they actually blamed the customer for not speaking up whilst in the restaurant. I can completely understand why this customer didn’t as I myself, was made to feel uncomfortable by the owners with the cold reception; I did not want to interact with them. Really disappointed with the lack of self-awareness in these owners. Not only did we feel unwelcome in their cafe, others have too and rather than accepting the criticism and trying to do better, they blame the customer. I’d also like to point out that the customer you attacked may have a disability such as social anxiety, autism etc. I really would avoid this place at all costs - not worth your effort, money or time. And I am really sorry to the others who have had the same experience I have, especially those who previously reviewed. Such rude responses from the owners!

I went with my partner for lunch, tempted by the cake pictures on Facebook but wasn’t overly impressed. I ordered a sandwich and a side of chips to share. The chips were soggy and undercooked and the sandwich was underwhelming, I think I’d have got better in Weatherspoons. Overall disappointed, I wanted to support a small local business and I expected more form somewhere that seems to have such glowing reviews from everyone else.

Today, my friend and I visited, intending to stay for lunch, a hot chocolate, and a cake each. Not long after arrival, having discussed the irony of a snow day given the sunny weather, we overheard another customer complain to a man I presume was the manager that their food had taken 25 minutes to arrive. Instead of apologising, he became very defensive and listed reasons their food took longer than the 15 minutes the customers were quoted. Our order was taken and food served by two lovely ladies. The food was okay. During our visit, the apparent manager was engaged in a conversation across the cafe with 2 groups of apparent regular customers complaining about teachers. While this felt a little unprofessional, everyone is entitled to their own opinion and it was nice to see how the community has been built in the cafe. However, one of the regular customers then pointed to me and my friend and very loudly (across the cafe) tried to belittle us and suggest that, as teachers, we should have felt embarrassed to be there, given the sunny weather outside and the unexpected closure of several local schools. This comment was unacknowledged by the apparent manager, leaving us feeling humiliated and unwelcome. While we wouldn’t expect the him to risk the business of regular customers, an apology or acknowledgement of his behaviour once the customer left would have been nice. To their credit, we were asked before paying if everything was okay with our meal. We said nothing at the time as we felt like any complaint would be handled in the same way as the one we had overheard. Instead, we paid for our lunch and left. This is made all the more disappointing as we have previously recommended the cafe to friends (who are also teachers) for their cakes. We will assume, in future, that this cafe doesn’t value the custom of teachers and shan’t be returning.

Visited on my birthday for a loverly lunch. Friendly service which was quick and attentive The food was fabulous and well presented. However if you have the Chicken and mushroom pie it does come with a warning....it’s not for sharing!!!

This pleasant cafe is not quite as little as the name might suggest. In fact downstairs is light and bright and the layout well thought through, creating a feeling of space rather than jammed together tables. There is a separate upstairs space which, on the day we visited, was being used for a hen party afternoon tea. The afternoon tea looked lovely, and at a great price - you need to book in advance for these, so unfortunately we didn’t get to try them. But our lunch was tasty too. We went for the soup and sandwich option: the soup was a generous portion of a thick tasty vegetable soup, while the sandwiches we chose were a ploughman’s sandwich (ham cheese and chutney) and beef and horseradish, both on fresh brown bread. Afterwards we decided to go for coffee and cake. There were four large cakes on display, and the sight of them proved just too tempting. My strong black coffee came out with a decent crema on top and in a properly heated cup such that the coffee was - and remained - hot. Both of these things were very much appreciated by me. There are several staff working here and they do a good job. There is a roomy, clean and modern toilet at the rear. The cafe is a short walk away from the main shops of Selby, and we wouldn’t have stumbled across it unless we were deliberately searching for it. But we were pleased we did seek it out, even on a wet day, and both enjoyed our lunch.

A very warm welcome and fresh, tasty and plentiful food served by the team who genuinely care about their customers.

We had afternoon tea: to start with, there was a delicious selection of sandwiches. The scones were a good texture with plenty of cream and jam. There was a variety of lovely cakes. We couldn't eat it all, so took some home in a box provided. There was plenty of tea and we were offered more on several occasions. Throughout, the staff were attentive, but not too obtrusive.

A group of us went for afternoon tea. We had previously booked and had the lovely upstairs room to ourselves. It was very comfortable. Our drinks were brought (they now have an alcohol licence) then the food was all put out on the side and we were able to help ourselves. There was plenty. The sandwiches were fresh and dainty with a good choice. There was also a delicious quiche and crisps. The scones were very nice with the jam and cream. There were also some other cakes and tiny tartlets. We were offered more drinks and then left to stay as long as we liked. We all enjoyed the visit.

Called for a slightly late lunch and pleased to find that all menu options were still available and that once served the food was as good as ever. Always a warm welcome and continues to be a great place to eat in Selby.

We saw The Little Coffee House was recommended on a local internet site,decided to give it a try.

This was our first visit following the refurbishment earlier this year. The new tables and chairs look great and there is a more spacious feel to the premises. The "restroom" has also benefited from the refit. Overall there is a warmer feel to the cafe.The breakfast was excellent and very good coffee. Happy to recommend.

I'm reluctant to place this review as it may make the place too busy for me!!! Just had afternoon tea for two and it was wonderful, less than half the price and more than twice as good as the well known place in York and Harrogate beginning with B where you have to queue to get in. All the food is good here plus the service and atmosphere is always wonderful.

Well where to start, first off as a man who has eaten cake and drunk coffee from coast to coast and never bothered to make a review on trip adviser must say a lot for this little gem!

Visited for a winter warmer but waited 30 mins for a bowl of soup.Outer door was wedged open and our tea cooled well before arrival of soup, Surprised as have visited before .Mentioned it on paying but staff disinterested.Will go home and open a can of Heinz next time.

First visit since the new owners took over. New owners were keen to introduce themselves to us and tell us of their plans for a bit of a refurbishment. Little changed from previous visits but will be interested to see the new look premises when the work is done.

We popped in mid morning, there was only a couple of tables free, which was a good sign. We sat down and were served quickly. One tea, one coffee and two baguettes with bacon and sausage in them. The coffee was very good and I actually ordered a second one. The baguettes were nice, but could have done with one more rasher of bacon in them, they just didn't seem full enough. This wouldn't put us off popping in again though.

I have had lunch here on numerous occasions with friends and have never been disappointed once!. The food is delicious! And the cakes yummy! The staff to are very polite and attentive I thoroughly recommend this beautiful little coffee house.

The cakes here are amazing, variety, some gluten free, huge slices. I've tried other items on the menu including jacket potato, salad, sandwich and lasagne, all lovely, tasty and filling. I'm not a big coffee drink (only a few cups a year) but the coffee here is very nice.

As usual very busy which must say something. Three of us eating and all ordered very different meals and all three of us thoroughly enjoyed our meals. On this visit I picked the day's special of a bacon/cheese/burger and couldn't fault it. I mentioned a couple of likes and dislikes when ordering and my meal was customised for me and exactly what I wanted. As usual a warm welcome and friendly banter from the staff.

Breakfast cooked from fresh steaming hot when served well worth the wait. Defo recommend to anyone. Not got great pushchair access but okay if mega busy. Staff really friendly and quick to help you. Portion size is defo enough. Left with 2 happy tummys

We called in mid morning, not busy but a lovely warm welcome as we walked through the door. Light and airy, tables nicely spaced. We opted for eggs royal which were served on a muffin, my husband was happy with that but I requested brown bread. Perfect, fresh golden beautifully poached eggs were served, piping hot on plentiful smoked salmon, not straight from the fridge but nicely at room temperature. The hollandaise was delicious and sufficient to enhance but not drown the whole meal. First visit most definitely won't be our last, too good to miss ...

This is a brilliant little place. Was house and dog sitting in Selby for a week and looking for somewhere to eat lunch. I certainly hit the jackpot with establishment . Been here twice now, both times for coffee and cake. All cakes are home made and the portions are huge - you could probably have one between two. Lovely friendly staff, too.

Delicious food and great service. Worth the 20 mile pedal to get there. The lmn meringue cake kept me going through the headwinds on the way home. Perfect coffee in a sensible cup.

We visit here regularly with out wheelchair bound parent.The staff are friendly and helpful.The choice of delicious sweet and savoury food is excellent there is something for everyone.They cater for most dietary needs.Highly recommend popping in and sampling some homemade cake :-)

Making the most of an unusual set of circumstances we decided to breakfast at LCH. As usual the quality of the food and drink offering were of the high standard we have come to expect. As always we were met with a courteous greeting and prompt efficient service.
