Always good food, pleasant surroundings and a few pups in the bar to fuss.

3/24 First visit for a couple of years with my daughter and family who live locally. Reasonably priced and varied lunch menu. Had the beef, caramelised onion and Stilton melt advertised as a doorstep sandwich - which it certainly was! Very generous amount of beef and served with mixed leaves a generous portion of fries. I struggled to finish it! Good service too. Food and service good overall. My daughter's burger was a bit overdone and the bread (sourdough I think) with my soup was almost unchewable. On the plus side, I have never had so much meat in a pie as in their steak, ale and mushroom! Very tender and tasty too.

Amazing food and a great time here. Very popular so book ahead. I had the steak and guiness pie and it was fabulous. Glad I had the veg and mash, because the rest of our party had the twice fried thick cut chips and they were dry and not very nice. The waitress did check on us though, and brought out fresh thin chips instead. Thanks !

First visit to the restaurant area and both the service and food was exceptional. If memory serves me well the head chef is Amy Metcalf who also deserves a mention for the amazing food on the menu and the staff are friendly and attentive.

Best eatery in Nottingham with king size portions

Served by 3 different members of staff, had to ask and ask again for water. Wasn't asked if everything was OK,not made welcome. Would not visit again, plenty of good competition out there.

We were in Farnsfield for a couple of nights but wish we had been able to stay longer so that I could have worked my way through the fabulous vegan menu. High praise to a thoughtful chef. What a treat to be spoilt for choice! It's very dog friendly in the bar area. Our golden retriever Tallulah was made very welcome as were we. Highly recommended

Long wait over 45min for food, not being kept informed or apology.

My first date with a beautiful young lady yesterday. The Lion is almost as wonderful as she is ☺️. We both ate the roast beef dinner which was perfectly cooked to our choice, plenty of it and a superb selection of vegetables. The Lion was packed from start at 12:00 till we left 2 & 1/2 hours later 😳. All staff were friendly and attentive. So yes all in all, highly recommended, we will definitely be back thank you The Lion👍🏼☺️

Ordered the "Christmas Cracker" Platter from the bar food menu. Exceptional quality. Really nice taste - a Hoisin ( or similar) sauce sparingly dribbled over an eclectic rustically chopped mix of pigs in blankets , Roast cubed potatoes, Turkey & stuffing. Unusual concoction - but .. to 'DIE FOR' TASTE. The flavours are there ! I'm weird with food , & I'm not sure I'd have come up with this but ..recommended. The staff are friendly , professional & humanly helpful. Not obsequious ,but really nice. Working well. Good choice of beers. Nice decor. Nice clientele. Nice area. Gents toilets nice & clean. Parking to side of pub - illuminated parking area. Disabled level floor access. Separate large heated undercover outside / smoking area.

I was recommended to go here by a friend. They still had the Christmas menu running which I was a little unsure about. However the food is incredible and the desserts even better. I don't normally have a desert when out due to most deserts being a let down and usually over priced. Will be coming again once the summer main menu is on.

We as a family attended the lion on the 31st December, the staff are 'amazing' so attentive. Great Team, Food excellent, A lovely time had by all, Thank you 😊

A bit of a long wait but the food was fresh cooked. It was really nice.

The dining room is great, looks closely at the pictures they're quite amusing. The service is good, if a little slow (but if you want freshly cooked food and not pinged micro meals, it's worth the extra wait) the food is excellent, beef blade especially good.

Been here many times before but last Sunday was very disappointing wrong meal came out asked for beef well done and it came out very pink /red changed then for a cold meal to come out changed again and very little beef and still pink in places came out by this time our friends had finished there meal pud was just ok . very young staff that did not have a clue of hospitality .

Had a delightful family night at The Lion at Farnsfield. Booking was seamless, received a confirmation email with menu choices. The 2023 Christmas menu was outstanding, high-quality dishes, and impeccable presentation. With 9 people, mains, and drinks, we spent just over £200. Well worth it – highly recommend!

Excellent quality food, had the Mrbeefy yorkshire pudding burger and Lisa had the boss hog roast tray... Fantastic.... Like the rude bottles hidden away among the others...

Lovely warm welcome on arrival, busy Saturday night but table ready on time. Recommend booking the parlour if you prefer a more comfortable experience, always busy, but low noise levels for chat. We four had starters, (great choices), blade of beef, duck and chicken, all cooked to perfection, delivered in a timely manner. Wonderful staff, excellent table side etiquette, nothing was too much trouble, service with a smile. Good choice of drought beers and lagers, extensive wine list, reasonable prices. We have already booked for early December, cannot wait! Well done “Lion”, we had a great time. Bryan.

Can we please request that where ever food is eaten that wet feet dog are not aloud on seating when I enter a pub i wipe my feet ,I can only say I'm so glad that was wasn't going to sit on those seats after the dogs in nice clothing,I know we were in the bar side due to the dining room being booked up but please have sign saying a polite ask to keep dogs off seats ,we have 3 dogs and they are still loved even when sat on the floor .

This could be a very nice pub but they carry on serving food in the bar area when they have a nice restaurant. Like many places it's neither a pub or a restaurant again you need staff that actually go out of there way to talk to the customers

Nice place, plenty of parking outdoor covered deck area, nice bar and restaurant areas. Good food, decent portion sizes. Try the fish finger sandwich with chunky chips if you fancy a filling lunch.

Myself, my partner and a friend visited for a meal. We all had the blade of beef. It was divine!!!! I highly recommend this place.

I have been coming here for many years and it's always been exceptionally good, however today's visit was not good at all. First of all got my order wrong , I had to then go and chase it up at the 16 odd year old waitress had forgot to bring it back out. Mt friend had just about finish his dinner. The beef was fatty and the vast majority of the staff seem to be irresponsible children. Disappointed to say the least.

4 star you say, food 5 star it was that good, service outstanding customer service 5 star and atmosphere so nice 5 star. The 2 thing parking is shocking and the seating is just as bad,if you a little on the big size good luck. We had our food in the bar not the restaurant. Would I come again 100% I would.

Took my son here last week and found the surroundings and the atmosphere very pleasant. Service was good and friendly. However when the food arrived we were a bit disappointed,I had the Street Eats steak on top of chunky chips,the chips were undercooked and there was far too much oil swimming around in the tray,I went to dip a chip in sauce and it slid off! My son had the chicken burger and asked for no onions or pickles and had an aubergine in his! It was also quite greasy. To be fair I are all bar one large chunky chip and mentioned it to the waitress who said she would mention it to the chef! I include a picture of this so you can decide for yourselves if you think they are cooked!

Lovely food with a fabulous atmosphere. Only gripe was our party of four were asked twice if we had finished when one of us was still eating - once during main course and then when one of us had only just been given dessert!

Today we visited the lion in Farnsfield, we arrived at 1:50 for our booking at 2pm, the waitress was fairly quick to get us a drinks order, we then had to wait 20 mins for our drinks to arrive at the table, we then ordered our meals which was 2x meat feast burger and 1x turkey burger and a normal beef dinner, as well as 3 sides, we then had to wait over an hour and half for the food after going up to staff to find out where it was and how much longer it will be and then the food arrived slowly but then it wasn’t even hot, it was more like lukewarm after sitting under the hot lights. When the food arrived the 2x meat feast burgers arrived and then had to wait a further 5 mins for the other burger and then about 2-3 mins for the last meal to arrive, by the time the sides and gravy came out, two of the meals was basically finished. We have never been here before for a Sunday dinner but we have been during the week and we can’t fault anything absolutely perfect so that’s why we decided to try it on a Sunday, but would highly recommend NOT going on Sundays again as it was the worst service/ Food going in a long time, the manager who dealt with us, gave us a free round of drinks off the bill which was kind of her but the least she could of done. Nothing else was done, Massive let down from staff and management because they didn’t do much else to help us out.

Alright, nothing that special for the price.

We’ve eaten here on several occasions and the food, as always, is excellent. However, we’ve now been asked to leave our table on the last two visits, which is a two hour allocation, which would normally be sufficient for a comfortable two course dinner. Unfortunately on our last visit for my wife’s birthday, last Saturday, our main course took 1 hour and 10 minutes to arrive. This of course left very little time for dessert, which we had to decline - how long might that have taken to arrive? So all in all, very disappointing - especially as it was my wife’s birthday -and after this has happened on our last two visits I very much doubt we will be returning. We were told as we were paying our bill that there were issues in the kitchen with new recruits, etc, which I understand but really shouldn’t be my problem. Maybe they should allow more than a two hour slot until they come up to speed.

Food was excellent, portion size was very good and the staff nice friendly and helpful. Definitely recommend 👌

Food was top notch, really enjoyed the beef. But. Service was terrible. 3/4 an hour for main, didn't even get a dessert as after 2 1/4 hours gave up. Asked 3 times for a pitcher of water. Although drinks were taken off the bill, no manager offered to see what the issue was or offered an apology. Rather ruined the experience, won't be returning...

Table booked for 7.30, 7 people for a family birthday , Ordered at 8 and the meals arrived just after 9. The place was very busy for a Wednesday night - obviously far too busy for the kitchen. The meals were ok but nothing particularly special. Won’t be returning

Visited here today after a few years of not going. Really surprised at the choice and variety on offer. You have the usual burgers and pub grub options, but you also have the street food choices. You have to wait a while for your food, but as it's freshly cooked you don't mind. Atmosphere is nice here and service is good. Plenty of parking too. Looking to return very soon. Meant to take photos but the food was to good sorry.

Came for lunch. Lovely food. Great service. Had two of the four draught beers on offer - both excellent. Compared notes with couple next to us who had an equally enjoyable experience. Keep up good work. Wished we lived nearer.

Good food but very slow service

Sunday lunch with my mum. I had the porky yorkie burger which was amazing, mum is a veggie and gluten intolerant and just wanted some vegetables with cheese sauce! No issue at all, she had a lovely plate of veggies, mash and cheese sauce and was chuffed to bits. The Lion is still the best place to go for food for miles around. Staff are lovely and the whole ambience is lovely.

Great Sunday lunch menu here, usually busy, but worth the wait. Good cask ales. Highly recommended ✅

Well, the food was incredible! I had the cod and my partner had the pork. It was absolutely fantastic! The staff were wonderful and very attentive. Zelie, lil Freya and hollie were the servers and absolutely wonderful service it was ❤️

Normally excellent food but the last two times our chicken and cod were so very salty that it spoilt our evening. Once can be forgiven but not twice. Just a warning as our friends returned their meals for the same problem a week earlier. Think the chef should check just how salty before plates leave the kitchen

Wonderful food, as always. But I do think an hours wait to eat is a long time. Staff really good and did apologise though. The only other thing is that the Blade of Beef meals could do with some vegetable accompaniment, quite a small me else. The Filthy Firecracker is amazing!

The food is always spot on. The Filthy Firecracker is really great! The Blade of Beef was not a very big meal, could have done with a dish of vegetables to go with it. The problem was that we waited just over an hour for our food, the staff were apologetic and nice however.

Great Food - Shame about the dog policy The pub welcomes dogs in the bar area whilst people are eating their meals which usually wouldn't overly bother me with having 2 dogs myself however at the weekend I was their eating lunch sat next to a couple with a dog which thought it was acceptable to have up on the seating sharing their food with it ... literally cutting up food off their plates and putting in a bowl I would have expected a member of staff who had seen this behaviour to actually say this is unacceptable not fetch them a dog bowl to enable them to do this With it being the warmer months I would expect people who chose to dine out with their furry friends to take a seat outside not sit them next to other folk whilst their trying to enjoy a meal out

Food as usual was excellent my husband had cod loin and said it was lovely, I had blade of beef which fell apart was beautiful but felt the dish was a bit salty. This was the second time we felt that the service could be improved slightly as tables aren't really checked very regularly.

We have been a few times, food and service has always been great. This time, most tables were taken and it had a lovely atmosphere. The food however, while there were no quality or flavour issues, but it was only warm on arrival and soon went cold - particularly the fries. It was a birthday dinner, and I didn't want to complain and spoil the evening. If the food had been piping hot when it came, and didn't go cold so quickly, then I would have given 5 stars. Service was wonderful. Bit disappointed as it isn't cheap to eat or drink here.

Myself and 5 others booked The Lion has a Part of Father's Day weekend. Our drinks and food orders were taken. 20 minutes later a waitress came and said our meals would be delayed by another 25 minutes has a pie meal that one of us had ordered had fallen on the floor. She bought over Bread and Olives, thinking it would make the delay ok. By the time our meals were served, an hour had passed. We were served by young waitress and waiters who didn't have experience to ask if everything was OK. The bill was bought over to our table, once again no asking if we had enjoyed our meal and experience of eating at The Lion. Knowing there had been a problem, a member of the management should have come over and dealt with our experience and not leave it to kids.

Lovely Sunday Roast, restaurant was fully booked but was able to sit in the pub side and eat. Very nice thick slices of local beef...delicious! Apparently the pork was tender and moist. Even tried the red velvet dessert 😘 which I would recommend. Will be going back!

We have been to the Lion quite a few times and have never been disappointed. We had a table for 4, 2 starters, 4 mains, and 2 desserts. £125.00. The blade of beef is always my go-to, of which 2 were ordered on the table. They were perfect. On this occasion, my wife and I both had the cod. PAN ROAST COD LOIN, crushed minted peas, crispy baby potatoes, confit garlic cream sauce & prosciutto crisp The chunky cod was cooked to perfection, and the base sauce was amazing. So much effort went into the sauce, crushed peas, cream garlic, and potato. The prosciutto crisp was cooked perfectly. Many thanks to all the staff.
