Bit more expensive than the Wetherspoons opposite! But that aside, not a bad bar, staff OK and plenty of places to grab a seat. Not too many in, so a bit quiet with not much atmosphere. Worth a visit though

There were only 2 of us so more a visit of pubs. The Lawyer looks a little uninviting from the outside as it is quite dark. Do not let this put you off. The pub is lovely inside and the staff were very welcoming. Although it was a week night and we only stopped for one drink we would happily visit again and recommend a visit should you be in the area.

Warning - my daughter was asked to attend for a trial shift today at 5:30pm. I know it was 5:30 because I was standing in the room when she confirmed the time. She turned up at 5:20 to be told by a real butch behind the bar that she was late and to go home. Horrible place and horrible staff who laughed at her when she burst into tears.

The staff who looked after us before and on the night of our party provided outstanding customer service and I would be surprised if anyone could beat it. The chef produced a wonderful selection of food for our guests (pulled pork and falafel home made focaccia rolls)- they were delicious and we've received many complements from those who attended. We would have no hesitation in recommending the Lawyer for your party. The central location is ideal, nothing is too much trouble for the staff, and the atmosphere is lovely. Thanks to all!

We tried here for somewhere different as not been to eat here, as we had a spree voucher we had to choose something a la carte, what we had was very nice and worth a visit but can be a bit pricey, but you pay or the quality of the food, we visited with a spree voucher so had money off. Will probably visit again, staff were friendly enough and not rude which i think is always a bonus as some places suddenly lose interest once they find out you have a voucher with money off and plus we have visited other pubs which are owned by the same landlord and received good service - ie The unthank arms and trafford arms in norwich

Hadnt been hear for ages to eat as think they previously did Thai food (which I not too keen on). So thought would give it a go now the menu has changed and was tempted in by the Fizz Friday offer (bottle of fizz and some choc covered strawberries for £15). We were celebrating our friends engagement so the bubbles were perfect!! The whole night was great and the staff were excellent throughout, looking after us but giving us time when needed! We started in the bar but got a bit noisy so they happily moved us further into the restaurant type area which was still really nice. The decor was cool- a mix of funky pub and trendy wine bar rolled into one! Even the toilets were cool! The food was great- I had the flat iron steak with garlic butter- it was amazing! Perfectly cooked and alot more meat than I expected for the type of steak and the price (£12 ish I think)- one of the best steaks I have had (and I love my steak!). The chips were gorgeous too, crispy and chunky, soft and fluffy in the middle- yummy. My hubby has fish and chips which was nice but there were lots of options for him too- he doesnt eat meat. There were some good special options too. We squeezed in a pudding and I had Key Lime Tart which was yummy! Others had choc fudge cake, white choc and strawberry tart and sticky toffee and date pudding- all were really gorgeous! All the food was presented beautifully which made every dish seem really special and more expensive than it was. Huge compliments to the talented chef and kitchen staff and the bar and waiting staff were amazing too! We had a brilliant evening with great food and service- we would recommend to anyone and we will back soon!

Beautifully presented with very welcoming and accommodating and professional staff, the only thing that put me of was the food served on wooden plates. While it was very nice (if small portions!) the food was served on rather worn wooden plates. I didn't finish my meal because of this and found it of putting as am not sure how hygienic this is (lots of cracks on the wood) I once heard that the chopping board is the least hygienic surface in the kitchen ....

Would echo what prev reviewer said. Depends what you are used to I guess. This is a basic roast. Nothing bad about it at all. We devoured it. The veg is relatively bland, and the potatoes weren't stunning. It is what it is - an amazing value £10 roast! Tasty and prob much better than The Georgian Townhouse- there are lots better though like The White Lion, The Black Horse and Earlham Arms all around the £10 mark. Would we go back- yes definitely. Like the pub. Nice choice of drinks. Nice window seat to gaze out. Like the service.Guess we were surprised however The Lawyer with its reputation wouldn't have laid on something with a little more finesse. ( not a criticism- just a thought )..

We went to the Lawyer for the first time yesterday and had a Sunday roast - my partner had roast beef and I chose the slow-roast pork belly. Both were cooked to perfection, served with broccoli, carrots, roast potatoes and parsnips and the lightest, fluffiest Yorkshire pudding ever, with a red wine gravy. This was one of the best Sunday roasts we have ever had - absolutely gorgeous. We shared a trio of chocolate desserts and together with a decent bottle of house red, it came to just under £40 - very good value. The staff were polite and efficient and the meals were piping hot and arrived quickly. We were surprised there weren't more customers enjoying an Easter Sunday lunch - it was fairly quiet when we arrived at about 2pm. We'll definitely be back to sample some more dishes from the main menu, which looked very tempting and if it's cooked to the same standard as our meal yesterday, we'll be very happy. Compliments to the chef - this was a fantastic meal. Give the Lawyer a try next time you're out for Sunday lunch - hopefully you'll be as impressed as we were.

Munroe's at The Lawyer came highly recommended for Sunday brunch so we decided to try it even though it was 20 mins walk from our B&B. We enjoyed a family stroll along the river, through beautiful streets past quaint houses. And Munroe's was certainly worth making the effort. We chose 7 different meals, with some extras added! Nothing was a problem! We enjoyed a Bucks Fizz before the food was served. Everything was excellent. I even got my coffee with my food which is hard to come by in brunch restaurants. Will definitely visit Norwich again, and look forward to sampling the dinner menu in Munroe's on our next visit :)

Went here on a Friday evening with a friend visiting Norwich. I had not been before but often passed the pub and thought it looked nice. We had a Spree voucher for BOGOF on mains and so decided to take a chance. We were not disappointed. Although fairly busy, the pub and restaurant are spacious and we were seated and ordered drinks which arrived swiftly. I ordered the steak and my friend the halloumi burger. Both arrived promptly and my steak was exceptional. The hand-cut chips are also very good and portion size is ample without you feeling stuffed. We ordered desserts ( meringue and toffee pudding respectively) both of which were again excellent. Only small issue was added gratuity payment which the waitress said should not have been added and then removed the item. The service had been fantastic so we ended up leaving a bigger tip than this anyway! Will definitely return and would highly advise this place if you are looking for a calm and relaxing evening catching up with friends in the city centre.

Visited with my son after working using a spree voucher.Nice atmosphere and decor with a great selection of music. The Waterboys to Joni Mitchell.A good selection of drinks at typical inner city prices.Service was very good and the bar staff were friendly and talkative.Food was high end pub food. The falafel and Halloumi burger was tasty and came with well cooked chips and red slaw. I had the chicken ballotine which was lovely although the mash was more potatoes with chorizo and goats cheese rather than mashed. For desert we shared the Chocolate assiette. This was nice with fried ice cream and a chocolate mousse. The mouse was a litlle heavy and a bit too sweet for my taste but would satisfy any chocaholic. The only down side to the food was a printing error on the order meant that then veg to accompany the main course did not arrive until after I had devoured the main course. All in all high level pub food at a reasonable price with good sized portions. I will definitely be back to enjoy the nice relaxed atmosphere after work.

I've been here a couple of times for drinks and never had a particularly stand-out experience, however on Saturday we experienced THE worst customer service from the bar tender and then it continued from the manager also! We ordered a round of drinks, the bar tender forgot a drink which wasn't a problem, asked for the drink again to which she miserably said that I didn't order one, naturally I corrected her and said I did, to which she replied that I didn't...huffed and puffed about it and spoke very short with me and walked off to make the drink, I followed her down the bar as I wasn't happy with her manner but she just continued to give awful service, the manager came over, didn't apologise but justified the staffs behaviour and I didn't even get the drink until I asked yet again at the end. Being a manager in retail...this is not what I call customer service!

First round ordered after a lovely meal at the last wine bar. Ordered a few drinks to be fair first round. Drinks all came out no problem, accept one. My friend who ordered them said excuse me, were missing one (politely enough) girl then said "I didn't charge you for it and you didn't ask for it" then walked away. Being a ex bar manager, lots of ways this confrontation could of been prevented. I'm sorry let me get that for you? What was it? Get drink and we pay for it and end of it? But this seemed such a difficulty. Then when we challenged it. My friends fiancé was accused of lying. Why? We didn't want it for free! Just wanted a drink. Then when we got "admittedly" very irate with her just saying that and walking away. Situation had now fuelled to uncomfortable position. "Bar manager" or "supervisor" took no control. She did come over and pretty much just backed her bar staff (I understand always support your staff, explain privately with her you "know" the truth, but customers mostly right) Even if you're bar staff was right. Simple humour for us, sorry let me get that for you and apologise on behalf of my staff. But please we will leave it here now. Here you are (even maybe offer said drink free, not compulsory of course but it's just the level of skill you have in management) clearly small amount. A Shame was a lovely birthday night after a meal to then get that? What even was that?!Disgusting behaviour, hire young girls I'm all for it. Get them jobs and work and learn in the working customer service world. But if you can't work with people. Then Don't!

The first night involved running the gauntlet and I very nearly got burnt by the 'fag' pointing away from themselves. we visited on a Friday night and it was quite busy on drinkers. We took advantage of the fizz Friday promotion (a bottle of Prosecco and choc dipped strawberries) but were disappointed that it was one strawberry person no matter how many people ordered the bottle. We had to seat ourselves as there seemed to be no waitress. Eventually the poor girl who was also having to do the bar came over and seemed out of breath from all the running around. She was lovely and polite and took our food order. The starters came in good time and were delicious. The chorizo hash was mouth watering and the salmon bruschetta amazing! It took a while for our plates to be cleared. There only seemed to be three members of staff downstairs who all cared about the bar area more than us. Eventually our table was cleared and we received our mains which were also delicious. Duck was cooked to perfection :) It was amazing food and there was no room for dessert (but im already planning on coming back for it!) the only thing that needs sorting is the service. We had no check backs and a lot of waiting around. I wouldn't hesitate to give the extra star but its just lacking in service through no fault of our lovely waitress who was still polite even though she seemed very rushed bless her. Went here for a pre show meal. Good service and decent choice of dishes on the menu. The food was great and we all enjoyed it. Waitress was quick and polite. When we mentioned the show she assured us she would make sure the food was ready in time, and it was. Nice bottle of red too. Not expensive either. Recommended and would visit again if in Norwich.

I visited "The Lawyer" on 03/06/15. We visited hoping for good Thai food, but the kitchen had changed and was now serving british food such as fish and chips, steak and chips, burger and chips. I ate burger and chips. The chips were fantastic perfectly cooked and crisp . The burger was very well season with a great bread bap. The wine list was good, we had a delicious Malbac. Service was also really very good.

Liked the feel of this place from my first visit so decided to book it for my birthday celebrations. I hired the back area called ' the snug' and it perfect. Lovely food and especially appreciated the staff being so patient and not kicking us out as it got to closing time. Love it here. Will definitely be back!

Having been told that the Lawyer is one of the best dining experiences in Norwich, decided to go and see what the talk was all about.I really don't like writing negative reviews, but in this instance and after a lot of thought, I feel that others should know. The positive: the wine list is quite good. But its not great and I wonder if the person actually creating the list had actually tasted the wines. That said, its not cheap either. On to the food.Decided to go for the 2 course lunch special. We all did.One word: disappointing. The quantity of food was what you would expect as an entre. The spring rolls could best be described as "cocktail" spring rolls. Tasty? Yes, but not large enough to actually get much of a flavour. The main course (part of this 2 course lunch special) was served on the same plate, a segmented dinner plate with rice in one segment, the spring rolls in another and the main in the remaining segment. This will give you an idea of the sizing.None of us felt satisfied nor that it was at all value.Really, it was disappointing particularly after all the good things I had heard.

manageress is rude and doesn't take questions of short measures kindly. A bit of a throwback to another era. Customer service is unknown to her. Hers is the only way.

Just called in for a drink. Was fizz Friday do prosecco and chocolate covered strawberries , well actually one strawberry . Think they are better than they are. Short measured pint of lager even though it said one pint to line was 1/2 inch below line. Seems pathetic but manageress to far up herself to notice. This isn't London!!!!! But charge London prices for lager £4.10 a pint or nearly a pint.!!!!

Booked a table for valentines night, when we arrived it had a very strange vibe to it. The bar was filled with what seemed half asleep alone men and to the left there were tables put together on the other side. It was asif it was a make do meal night. I asked what the vegetarian option was which I was advised mixed vegetables in OYSTER sauce. I smiled and explained it cannot be vegetarian if it is in a FISH sauce which he looked puzzled at. I explained vegetarians do not eat meat or fish. Pescetarians eat fish but no meat. Vegetarians eat neither therefore I would not want a non vegetarian meal. He looked awkward which is when I asked what vegetarian dish can he actually offer. He went off to ask and after 10 minutes of waiting I left. It doesn't take a genius to work out a veggie dish is not a fish dish. To leave someone waiting this long for an answer makes you feel completely stupid and uncatered for.

We visited on a busy Friday evening and found the service quick and the beer was good. My main gripe was that with the majority of tables reserved for diners, there wasn't much room for those of us who just wanted a drink.

Overrated. Seven of us ate here on a Friday night. It was very busy and it's a strange set up to have a Thai restaurant with the kind of bar that's there. Anyway, we sat down and waited for a while to be acknowledged. We only had two menu's between all of us which made a poor start - Maybe more staff for busy evenings to make sure guests feel catered for. We ordered a variety of items on the menu but I decided to have a prawn thai red curry with coconut rice. We were having a nice catch up so we weren't fussed about the wait for food. When mine arrived, they said plain rice and red curry which is not what I ordered. After the waitresses spoke about the rice to each other away from us, they gave me the same rice dish they brought out without going back to the kitchen telling me it was in fact coconut rice - I wasn't convinced. My red curry was disappointing - I was expecting it to have more of a kick but it was very mild and a little bland. The other diners who also had red curry felt the same. The rest of the diners enjoyed their food but after having a taste myself, it really doesn't compare with when I've been to thai on the river, or baan phraya (both in Norwich, nearby). I was the driver of the evening so I didn't have a drink. Apparently there's a cocktail offer before 8pm. The other diners ordered various cocktails and mentioned to the waitress that it was still before 8pm meaning they should get the discounted price. When we had finished and asked for the bill, it was more than what we were expecting. They hadn't taken the price of the cocktails off but as we were a big group, we just split it and left (the girls with us were less inclined to question it). Also, my Thai red prawn curry was near enough £12 and nearly £4 for the, what I was told, "coconut" rice - that's extortionate considering how average it was. The set menu options at Thai on the river and baan phraya are around £18 ish each and you get far better food and 3-4 courses with plenty of options. Disappointed overall. I get the impression it's more of a "fancy" place to meet up or tell people you've been to rather than quality bar and dining - Though there's finer places in Norwich to visit.

On our way home from the cinema, my partner and I stopped for the curry & pint deal that the Lawyer have on a Wednesday night. I have had a drink in the Lawyer many times before but I only tried their food once, a few years ago. I was very pleasantly surprised with my red Thai curry. It arrived quickly, it looked good and most importantly, it was delicious. Hot and spicy, just the way I like it, and full of flavour. I would be very happy to try out other Thai dishes here in the future.

Been here a number of times now, usually with a couple of friends. Good city centre location, combining a nice bar with great Thai food. The 'bags of gold' starters are particularly good, coupled with pad Thai and sweet & sour chicken for main - highly recommend. Reasonable prices, made even better by the fact they do corporate discount for Aviva staff if you work there.

There were two tables occupied at around 4pm, 3 lots of people waiting for drinks and 4 members of staff working behind the counter, and 1 refilling out the front. We felt like an absolute inconvenience, but hung about waiting 5 minutes to place our order. We received no acknowledgment in this time, until my partner and I shared a ‘should we just go?’ look, which prompted a staff member to say ‘ill be with you shortly’. It seemed chaotic behind the counter, no order or logic to who did what, and overheard another guy waiting for drinks say that he’d been waiting half an hour for two takeaway drinks! We waited at the counter for 10-15 mins for two toasties and two coffees. Our toasties came out quick, but drinks took forever, despite having two robust coffee machines capable of allowing two members to be simultaneously making drinks. By the time our drinks arrived our toasties were pretty cool, and one of our drinks was accidentally put in a takeaway cup. Coffee was awful. We choose costa because it’s consistent (usually) and you know what to expect. The milk was burnt and the baristas skill didn’t compare to our local costa (Broadland business park). Won’t be returning, if they can’t get it right when it’s quiet and there’s plenty of staff - when can they?!

The service is pretty slow and our table was wobbly. The menu online is not the same as in the restaurant - I arrived looking forward to some pork belly with crackling but it wasn’t on the menu so I ordered the pork shoulder. After waiting a while for the food it was pretty disappointing. The amount of meat you get is pretty small and was overly salty. The vegetables, potatoes, gravy and Yorkshire were nothing special. My mother ordered the aubergine which was extremely tough and she was unable to cut it. The menu also states that each roast comes with cauliflower cheese but we only received 2 portions for 3 people. When we asked about this we were told that that’s just how much we get. Overall disappointing and would not recommend.
