It seems pricey at first but then you get your food and it doesn't seem pricey anymore. Hot chocolate at £4.75 also seems very pricey but this is hot chocolate heaven that you might normally find, say, in the Alps. Let down by the coffee which isn't great.

We popped in to try this cafe's wares after a long walk in the surrounding countryside. It's bezu, but we got served quickly from the efficient team. The menu has some interesting choices, we opted for whitebait and tarteflet. Booth were tasty, with quality ingredients. Prices are not cheap, but this is a quality eatery.

Fantastic little Delhi nestled in amongst other farm shops in the beautiful castle Ashby. Staff were friendly and polite but importantly the food and coffee were amazing; particularly the Scotch Egg. Yolk was dark orange and was absolutely delicious. Came with a side of fries. They also cater for intolerances and have things like Soya milk for coffee etc.

First visit at the café for a lunch. Lovely and clean setting but the food was a total disappointment. I felt like I waisted my money, the food was bland and not much to it to be honest. Especially the coleslaw, which was cabbage with mayo, thats it, no carrots or other veg no seasoning no other ingredients just mayo and that cost me £3.50 for a portion as nothing came with garnish. The staff didn’t check on us so we couldn’t give any feedback. I wanted to love it but left disappointed.

We have visited and been delighted previously and swung by today initially for a coffee and cake. We were tempted by the charcuterie board and a glass of wine. It was sow to come and very disappointing. Some poor ham, a few small pieces of salami, some wafer thin chorizo, some iberico(?) and some sort of rillette(?) that was frankly tasteless and a few cornichons. That with a side of bread £19. The quantity was at best very, very small and the bread nothing exciting. The wine was average. At paying, no question of how was it. We will now think again before visiting - sad really but a poor experience

Since The Deli moved its eatery into the old Buttery building next door this was our first time catching up over brunch. Lovely cheese board, which, by the way, was what enticed us to meet up here, was exceptional. Pickled walnuts are delish with cheese and again, perfect canoli, my favourite, pistachio, soo great. Dogs were all happy too. Even the rain didn't bother us, why would it. Its great to see The Deli evolve. I hope the atmosphere continues to be one where everyone feels like they've Discovered a Foodie Haven... I'll be back, more meet ups, more pooch treats and next time we'll see what the lunch menu tastes like.

This lovely deli has recently expanded and they have opened their beautifully refurbished eatery in (what was) the cafe next door. We enjoyed a fabulous tapas style lunch in the sun… washed down with an Aperol spritz and a non alcoholic beer. So nice to have lunch and then wander over to the shop for some treats to take home (wonderful selection of cheese!). Love the food and the vibe. Helen and her team work so hard to deliver delicious produce and excellent service. The staff are knowledgeable and helpful…. I thought I knew a lot about food but I always learn about something new when I visit the deli.

MORE AT TripAdvisor

Have visited the deli many times since lockdown lifted. When service was from the shop with a menu, the food was lovely, service friendly and slow, and the method of ordering confusing to say the least as there were seats for eating-in and other seats for takeway, and perhaps you ordered at the counter or at the till..... Now it is a whole heap worse with both a shop and a cafe. We tried the newly opened cafe for 'afternoon tea'. We were inivited to sit down, read the menu and come back in to order. The cake display was poor - no brownies, sponges, scones, etc, as was the menu cakes described as desserts. We asked if we could get cakes from the deli to which the answer was yes, make your choice and come back to order. Did so and was told by different person that this was not possible. So ordered drinks and decided to do what had happened all summer, bought cakes in shop and sat down. To be fair we were grumbling about the chaos when the owner appeared....Our experience was far from that described by others. She felt it necessary to describe VAT rules (not my problem) and did not care a bit that her offer in the cafe probably does meet the lunch crowd, but has a poor choice for tea & cake. Her confrontational style was unhelpful, all I was asking for was a better cake choice. Such a shame to have lost a regular stop-off on our country walks .

We visited on a sunny Friday afternoon. We queued at the till for 20 minutes to order 2 cups tea and 2 cakes. 35 mins later our tea arrived but no cake, my friend went to the counter to ask for hem but was told they were on the way, 10 mins later, the cake finally arrived, which was delicious. We were then told that they hadn't put the cake on the bill and that they were short staffed. It would have been helpful if we were told there would be a delay due to staff shortages when ordering. The key to good customer service is managing customers expectations.

This wonderful delicatessen and cafe is just packed with luxurious, top quality food and drink. The cheese selection alone would make me return time after time but there is much, much more - all that you would expect o find in a good delicatessen plus bread, biscuits, cakes, tea, sweets, beer, wine, cordials.......the list goes on. It's a pleasure just browsing the shelves but I challenge any food lover to leave empty handed. I never have.A great place, not only to pick up ingredients for an indulgent meal but also to find interesting quality gifts or even to stop for a very good coffee and a tasty snack in the pleasant courtyard seating area. Drinks can be taken away too. It's worth mentioning that The Deli sits in the small and lovely village of Castle Ashby, in a rustic courtyard of tasteful shops selling gifts, antiques and furniture and right next-door to the beautiful grounds of Castle Ashby itself. A nice little daytrip with the added advantage of returning home laden with goodies! The staff in The Deli are always cheerful, friendly and helpful. They really know about the produce they're selling. Indeed I have received advice on cheese selection from the owner on a number of occasions - always spot-on.Prices are not cheap by any stretch, but they are fair - you get what you pay for.Treat yourself to a visit!

After visiting nearby Castle Ashby Gardens, we were shocked to discover that the tea room closed at 3pm and as it was 3.15pm, we were turned away. I therefore had a very upset 4 year old who was expecting an ice cream and a disappointed husband who was desperate for a drink and hoping for scones. Thankfully I spotted Castle Ashby Deli on the drive out the village and we were so happy to find somewhere that we could still get drinks, cake, ice cream and lollies. We have just had the best lunch at this charming deli/café. It was a mother/daughter meet up with four of us. We had only planned to stop for lunch but ended up staying for three hours drinking mulled wines, mulled cider and Christmas tea. All our meals were cooked to order and staff made efforts to answer any queries we had and change ingredients to suit dietary requirements. The food was DELICIOUS and it was clear that the staff take pride in the ingredients and appearance off their dishes. After lunch and drinks we perused the deli shop which was ideal for getting local food and drink as gifts for friends (and indulgent treats for ourselves!). There was also a nice range of vegan products. The owner and staff were so friendly, and clearly took pride in running the deli and café so it was nice to feel like we were supporting their small business - Apologies that we didn’t catch your names, but thank you for a lovely afternoon!Eating and shopping there was a super experience and we will definitely be returning. I've just spent a week on a holiday where Susan from The Deli was the chef. I have a dairy allergy and, although not diagnosed as coeliac yet, gluten makes me feel very unwell for days and was very nervous about eating away from home. I am , however, able to eat fish and meat. All my worries were unfounded. Susan was a very knowledgeable lady regarding allergies and intolerances. My barn had a selection of foods that were safe for me to eat. Each day I was given incredibly tasty and healthy dishes. Susan also catered for a Vegan but instead of treating me the same (which would have made her life easier) she ensured I still had my meals tweaked. All seven days of my holiday were a culinary delight. Her meals were full of flavour and colourful vegetables. Her puddings and cakes were absolutely gorgeous. Normally I can't indulge in puddings or cakes because the combination of dairy and gluten free sends the chef into melt down. It didn't phase Susan at all.If you plan to visit The Deli a quick phone call or message and they will be able to cater for you and serve you tasty and delightful dishes – you won’t be disappointed.

We took A trip to Castle Ashby’s The Deli, in the autumn sun Unbeknown to us, they were holding a food fare, open to everyoneThere was a nice buzz in the air as we entered the Castle Ashby yardWith stalls and alcohol vans, to enjoy the occasion, wouldn’t be very hardArriving around 1.30 we had to sort out our hungry bellies first But there were no spare tables, the situation couldn’t be worse We stood and waited, giving that look, you know, the one with the big sad eyes Then the waiter called us, “There’s a table over here, guys “He explained the menu was just meat and cheese boards today due to the food fare This being, that the stallholders had the chance, to sell their own wares So not minding the limited menu we plummeted for a mixed platter for twoWe’d have probably chose this anyway, so no need to cause a hullabaloo We settled back and took in the easy listening tunes It was turning into one of those chilled out afternoons Then from the kitchen came a platter to excite the eyes and fill the belly Stuffed peppers, artichokes and pork pie, fresh from the deli Along with salami, Brie, Stilton and ham Olives, figs, salad, garlic, pesto, and a chilli jam A separate plate with both toasted and fresh bread And real butter which on top you could spread Delicious, delightful with an ambience to please Which was thoroughly enjoyed by these two attendees Lovely couple of hours enjoying the food and music played by the chap with the record player. Took a look around the stalls afterwards and purchased some fresh coffee roasted on the Thursday night, and a home made chicken and leek pie. Also purchased fresh bread, and two cakes from the Deli which were all fantastic.

On a visit to Castle Ashby we stopped in to grab lunch and do some shopping at the Larder. Decent menu selection with soups, sandwiches and snacks. The scones are made to order and come out piping hot with cream butter and jam - amazing. Stop by if your touring the Castle.

Stumbled across this amazing deli whilst visiting friends. Lots of quality local produce and friendly helpful staff. Their exclusive alcoholic soft serve ice cream was something else especially the Gin and Lemon which was perfect for chilling on this hot sunny day, all of us agreed it was the best ice cream we've ever tasted so worth visiting just for that!Plenty of car parking and nice bench seats to sit outside in the courtyard to eat all that amazing produce and nice walks nearby if you're feeling energetic. Well worth a visit and we will be back soon.

Pop int this eatery from time to time for a good value lunch. The place is quite compact but comfortable and the menu serves fairly tradional cafe-style food,The fry up is a favourite of ours and its always served up with a cheery smile. For a super fry-up (they do lots more) it's ideal for me.PS... parking's quite good too.

We came here a couple of years ago and although we didn't enjoy the shopping as much, the restaurant is still as nice. This is a lovely place to sit and have a cup of tea especially when it's warm enough to sit outside.

Had a nice lunch here. Service was very good and our dog as welcomed with some free biscuits. I had pasty & chips and a pot of tea. Everything except the pasty was tip-top but the pasty was filled with some sort of paste which may or may not have been meat based. With a decent pasty I'd have given it excellent so if you go don't have the pasty !

I organised a second visit for my work friends and we were not disappointed. The atmosphere of the place is so querky. You don't have to be hungry when you arrive, as once you walked through the delicatessen's with it's array of goodies your appetite is awakened. The meal was excellent and if you are a cheese lover the cheese and biscuits are a must. A fantastic informal evening, we have booked our next visit already, can't wait.

The new owners of The Larder Deli catered for a 30th birthday party I organised in November 2014. The food was amazing, all very fresh and appertising. We had a range of partygoers across all ages and walks of life many whom commented on the great selection and taste of the food giving complements to the chef! Thanks so much guys! I will definately be turning to you for all my future party catering and will be recommending you to anyone who will listen :-)

HiPreviously reviewed this location as excellent and loved going there to eat and purchase from the deli Visited earlier this month and couldnt believe how much it has changed.Shelves empty , restaurant area unprepared and depsite there being two gentleman behind the couner and only one other customer in the shop we stood a foot away from them both and was ignored for 5 minutes not even an acknowledgement ,so left.It was such a great place with a lovely atmosphere , only after my visit did I learn that there is new owners which at least explained the dramatic change

Visited today and was really disappointed , considering the time of year the shelves should have been groaning with tasty delights, they were really empty, the freezers were empty. The deli counter was very sparse with a few lonely bits of cheese and cold meats. Went to the deli at mears ashby in the end and got all my Christmas meals in a busy, fully stocked shop

My boyfriend and I went for lunch at The Larder and were both really impressed! The staff are absolutely lovely, knowledgable about the cheeses and happy to advise us. We got the cheese board for two, which was huge (we ended up having to have a doggy bag!). Good value for money and a lovely lunch spot, will definitely be going back soon

When we first went to The Larder we had such a good experience we vowed to have further visits. We were not disappointed. We were greeted like we were very frequent visitors. We had a really scrummy lunch. The cheeses and meats we were served were excellent and served with lovely tasting olives, bread and a really tasty fruit flavoured vinegar for dipping. This was all washed down with a good red wine and finished off with coffee. I loved the little bottles that contained the milk, reminded me of the school milk bottles Tracy and Tony were attentive but not obtrusive. All in all I'm glad that we made that second visit. I bet we do go again when in this area.

Having now been twice to the Larder Deli we have enjoy a leisurely meal on both occasions the food has been excellent and the staff very attentive. The staff are only to happy to explain what is on their menu in the way of different meats cheeses etc and you can buy wine or soft drink to accompany your meals. All we would say is allow time to enjoy this delightful experience.

Home alone whilst my wife was shopping in Leicester so I popped along to The Larder. I thoroughly enjoyed my pizza with side salad and a glass of ginger beer. The service was first class - friendly but unobtrusive - and the food really tasty. The small dining area has been decorated well and has a nice ambience. All in all a great way to spend a peaceful hour.
