The Laine Deli in Brighton and Hove

Underwhelming visit to this small place for breakfast. We both ate the vegetarian option after receiving a less than warm welcome (we both commented that we should have just left at that point). When I asked for oat milk, the cow's milk was taken from me and thrown unceremoniously into the sink behind her with a blank look on her face. I felt as if I'd insulted her and again, felt as if I should leave. Despite this, we both ate and the food looked and tasted nice enough however, around half an hour later we both had upset stomachs. Not a great start to our day in Brighton and we won't return as there are many other choices in the area.

Five of us came here for breakfast. All of us had different options, I went for the North African option. All were very good and we highly recommend.

Had read a lot of hype about here but was a little underwhelmed. This was a busy Saturday so had to wait a while to be served, with our drinks taking longer than I would expect. I ordered a sandwich and it was fine, but it was just fine and a little dry. I perhaps ordered the wrong thing (it was the very meaty chorizo sandwich) because I have heard lots of good things but, personally, I was disappointed and have had better lunches elsewhere for less.

My mum and I went for brunch at North Laine Cafe last weekend. We sat outside in the sunshine, I had the heuvos rancheros and mum had the half breakfast. Both were very tasty and reasonably priced. The staff were friendly and helpful.

Great food and great service, I had a Brighton Blush, halloumi wrap and sweet potato fries! Lush! Great place to eat lunch, sat outside in the sunshine!

What a lovely café! We have visited a few times now for breakfast/brunch, and this place never disappoints. The breakfasts are fantastic, with much of the produce being locally-sourced or homemade! Staff are always super friendly, chatty and attentive and take good care of their customers. Will be sure to visit again soon! Thank you to the café team 😊

So my friends & I arrived around midday for brunch. We had to wait for a waiter to greet us which was absolutely fine. We requested a table outside for 3 customers. There were 2 tables for 2 customers each available next to each other, but we’re told there was no space outside ( no reserved indications on either table) The waiter said there wasn’t a table outside for 3 of us, but said we could sit inside. He gave us no eye contact & no consideration for the fact we had heavy suitcases with us. We were told to sit inside. We did this & were handed menus. Again, no eye contact or personal engagement , but we had plenty of flies inside for company . We waited 10 minutes, no waiter attended to us. No communication, nothing. We left at this point as we did not feel welcome or valued as customers. Such a shame, the menu looked amazing, but the staff appeared inexperienced & entirely disinterested in the customers. Note to management: your staff are in dire need of customer service training.

We went for breakfast. The food was delicious and the portions were very generous. There was a good vegetarian option. The ingredients are sourced locally. It was dog friendly 🐾

Usually really lovely food but today really disappointing experience. Went for breakfast, staff were not particularly welcoming or friendly, service really slow: took 40 minutes to get breakfast, it was cold and unappetising when it arrived. Customers complaining and staff then complaining about customers in earshot of others. Customers leaving before being served. It may be worth noting that not everyone wants to hear “McFly” at high volume on continuous loop because the staff clearly love it. Sorry, nothing like the usual standard so hopefully feedback may be taken on board.

A warm sunny day and very pleasant & relaxing to sit outdoors. Attentive service even though the team were very busy. Good honest food - healthy portions although I have to admit I made a bit of a pig of myself - should really have eaten less....

Nice location. Serving sizes were good. Eggs were over cooked (although they did replace them when told). Benedict was terrible, was a mustard sauce. Sausage wasn’t that nice (although each to their own). Service was ordinary - one lady was nice - the others not so much.

Nice place, went for brunch and a coffee. Staff was friendly and was able to sit outside on a January morning, heaters outside which was good. Ordered a sandwhich was MASSIVE, couldn’t not finish it. I would return maybe just for a coffee

We visited for lunch. Two of us had salads and one a toasted sandwich. The salads in particular were excellent - delicious and generous portions. I would definitely return.

We enjoyed our breakfast - scrambled egg & salmon, and a bacon, sausage and fried egg baguette. Generous portions and beautifully cooked. Service was friendly and efficient, and there is a spacious terrace where you can sit and watch the world go by. Very nice!

Visited this cafe on a Groupon deal. Lovely staff and great spot. If the sun is shining, sit outside as it's a sun trap. It's wasn't the best or tastiest breakfast I have ever had but wasn't the worst! It was a busy Saturday and the food came pretty quickly considering. All in OK is was OK. Prices are on a par with other cafes in the area including Bill's, which I think is superior and similarly priced.

So glad we found this. Just wish it was bigger Food really good, lots of choice for all dietary needs If we’d been in Brighton longer we would definitely have visited again. Must be wonderful in good weather with outside eating too.

The Greek salad here is very nicely presented, dressed and flavoured (my favourite thing on the menu infact). The sandwiches which I've tried have been top notch.You can tell that a lot of care has gone into the food these guys prepare. Everything I've eaten from here so far has been really yummy good quality food. The guys here are friendly and efficient with good attention to detail. I haven't tried the coffee yet but they look pretty. A North Laine fave.

Enjoyed delicous breakfast with my daughter. Although the breakfast did not come fast, we won't in a rush and it was worth the wait. I would have preferred to have my breakfast served on a warm plate rather than cold plate.

Pasé unas horas explorando Brighton de nuevo y abrí un poco de apetito por un bocado ligero. Hay muchos lugares de comida para elegir y creo que tuve suerte con mi elección de lugar. Pedí un sándwich de pollo y aguacate con mayonesa de limón y un café blanco plano. El sándwich estaba lleno con el relleno y era muy sabroso, fresco y satisfactorio. Fue servido con una pequeña porción de ensalada mixta. Esta era mi versión de cómo debería ser un sándwich, a diferencia de los fríos y sin sabor que se venden en todos los supermercados. El blanco plano también fue excelente. Definitivamente regresaría aquí.

Encontramos esta pequeña joya por accidente, está en la cima de los Laines y vale la pena una visita.

Nos detuvimos a comer un sándwich a la hora del almuerzo, uno de esos lugares por donde hemos caminado muchas veces, pero nunca en un momento en que tengamos hambre. Estaba bastante ocupado, se esperaba (se esperaba) a aprox. 1 pm pero parecían bien preparados con 4 empleados detrás del mostrador.

Whist visiting Brighton earlier this year we just happened to find this little deli as we walked around the Lanes and what a little Gem it was. Freshly made food that was absolutely delicious. Will definitely visit here again when next in Brighton.

We are a local Charity who have ordered from the Laine Deli to cater for several meetings and events. Despite some of the requests being horribly last minute, they have always been cheerily accepted and produced. The staff and delivery service is great, the food is fabulous, and all very prompt. This is why we have ordered catering several times, and no doubt will do so again! We can't thank Dominic and The Laine Deli enough, champions!

Had lunch here a couple of days ago. Brilliant food freshly cooked, tasty well thought out, good attention to detail . Thouroughly recommended.

We found this place after getting off the train in Brighton. It was a lovely sunny day and we stopped for a coffee and a smoothie on the outdoor seating. Food looked great too!

Welcoming interesting place but I wish they’d check their choice of ingredients. I had a toasted sandwich with pastrami, cheese, cheese, gherkin and mustard and it was tasty but seemed a bit hot. Having spent the rest of the day in discomfort I now realise why - they should have used American rather than English mustard! Oh well

I had a lovely coffee with friends here after dropping someone at the station. Friendly and efficient service and super latte, some had teas.

Superb breakfast. Emphasis here on simple, well cooked breakfast with high quality ingredients- 2 great sausages, a mountain of bacon 2 poached eggs cooked to perfection a toasted bagel and some beans and service was great - What's not to like - Recommended

Justo debajo de la estación de tren es este pequeño delicatessen con una enorme variedad de sándwiches recién hechos y dulces artesanales, además de café y batidos. Tuve el pollo y Chorizo con un cappuccino y fue absolutamente delicioso. Me senté al sol y no algunas personas viendo y disfrutamos de algunas WiFi gratis con mi merienda y fue un ambiente agradable en el que relajarse y participar en algunos domingos. Deli convenientemente ubicadas en mono desde la estación de tren con precios razonables y un servicio estupendo. No hay una gran oferta de asientos y se llena la cena rápida, así que no muy tarde para el almuerzo como para llegar te decepcionará.

El Laine Deli recientemente nos proporcionó comida para un almuerzo de trabajo, y no nos decepcionó. Fantástica selección de sándwiches frescos, que bajó una tormenta! Sin duda volveré de nuevo.

Personal de buena calidad, ambiente agradable, paciente (ya que nos tomó un tiempo para decidir). Agradable para sentarse en los taburetes y ver el mundo pasar un sábado a mediodía.

Being a sunny day (Saturday Morning) and live just around the corner we thought we'd finally try this place out with our little dog. The outside area was full with not a single person inside. The staff are very friendly, asked if we wanted water for our pup and very quick to clear tables. We ordered breakfast to our table from inside where you prepay.... sausages PERFECT, so were the eggs and beans, however the toasted bread for both of us was very 'very' stale... I've given 5 stars because other than toast the staff and rest of food was perfect.Get a different supplier for the bread.We'll be back and would definitely recommend.

We used a groupon this morning at Laine Deli. Huge platefuls of well-cooked breakfast. Teas was served in individual pots so we could have several cups each. Staff pleasant and helpful.

Shop is small, but got seating outside. When it is sunny, its the ideal place to feel like you are not in Brighton for a while. Menu is friendly for vegetarians and vegans, they also offer cold drinks, 100% juices included. Me and my friend ordered muesli with cinnamon and bananas+latté and flat white. Service was really nice and friendly.

Had breakfast here with a Groupon voucher for the second time. Breakfast was best we have tasted for a long time or since we were last here. In particular the sausages were not the usual supermarket kind and would guess they are from a butcher. At the time the young man was cooking and serving alone and what an excellent job he did. Would certainly recommend Laine Deli and we will be back.

My daughter and I had breakfast at the deli. It was delicious, and the best cup of coffee I have ever had. I would certainly recommend this cafe.

Today we revisited this outlet, gave in our groupon voucher and sat down, after about ten minutes we were asked if we would like a drink, after forty minutes they took our order by which time our drinks were cold, on the hour breakfast arrived which was good.Having a groupon voucher makes you second class for service, so it begs the question why use them? Its normal practise these days, if you have food to be asked if everything ok, not here maybe they are not bothered. Last visit!

I had the full English breakfast & my wife had the vegetarian version, which were both good.Flat white coffee also good.Small venue, where you see the food being prepared (they have maximum hygiene rating), We visited on a cold day, but they have a lovely terrace with much more seating, which is a sun trap when weather permits.

Visited this place on a Groupon deal for breakfast with my wife. We both had a lovely full cooked breakfast with tea/latte. Everything was hot, perfectly cooked and plenty of it including perfectly cooked poached eggs which can sometimes be difficult to do. I always think you can tell a good breakfast by the quality of the sausage, which can vary in quality to say the least. This cafe's sausages were really nice, meaty and herby. All in all, fantastic and we said we'd definitely be back again.

One of my favourites - tucked away from the madding crowds of North Laine. Serves unpretentious food - great breakfasts, sandwiches, jacket potatoes and salads with care and attention.Great coffee and has a range of newspapers to keep you occupied if waiting for a train etc.Suits vegetarians and vegans and lots of alternatives - go, it will make you happy!!

I decided to drop into this deli for a cup of tea and something to eat whilst waiting for a train. It turns out that they serve a really, really good cheese omelet- light, fluffy and full of flavour. Very enjoyable 30 minute wait for a train on a wet day.

Thought I pop into somewhere new on my way to the station and this place is friendly, kind and clean. It serves delicious food with a smile... Nothing seems too hard. Will visit again xx xx

Visited the deli at the weekend and would highly recommend the food. Our group had a mix of porridge, sandwiches, cheese on toast, cakes and coffee. Everything was extremely tasty and we would definitely return on our next visit to Brighton. I love my porridge and was very surprised to hear that they use Aldi oats. They were so good I emailed to ask who their supplier was!!

I still love this place for lunch - excellent range of fresh sandwiches, all day breakfasts and salads. Their soups this winter have been fab - my absolute faves are the bean chilli soup and the Butternut Squash and Peanut Butter one - SO GOOD!! When when when can we have them again! In an area crammed with cafes and coffee shops The Laine Deli excels. We had wonderful breakfasts from a well thought out menu, with excellent coffee. The atmosphere was friendly and professional and we also liked the music! The whole thing was great value for money and we can't wait to return. This place really deserves to do well.

We both chose our lunch from their breakfast menu and it was really good, the portions were generous and really tasty. What really impressed was their attention to detail and getting everything spot on. Because the yolk in the fried egg in my meal had broken just as they were plating it up, they served the meal but said they would do another egg and bring it straight over. I probably would have been happy with it as was, but the fact that they just wanted it to be perfect speaks volumes. The pot of tea was excellent too! Would definitely recommend.

We had a voucher to use for breakfast, this was excepted without a problem. we got a full breakfast plus tea or coffee.The food was freshly cooked, while we waited we received good size tea and coffee.The food was good though I´m not a sausage lover nice scrambled eggs, only point would prefer rashers of bacon rather than the sandwich strips.Very helpful crew.

Visited last weekend with friends. The service was slow and all our food arrived at different times (and some orders were wrong) but for me it didn't take away from the fact the food was excellent. Best sandwiches in Brighton. I'll be back.

I visit a supplier of mine for work regularly, which is just around the corner from this place.This whole road is full of fantastic coffee shops, so the standard of all of these is fantastic. At breakfast, I had a great latte and croissant, and I went back for lunch to have smoked salmon with scrambled eggs on wholemeal toast.It's bought in, but the mango juice was also excellent.Friendly staff and good service made this another excellent visit.

Not a bad word to say about this place. Just what you need for a reasonable priced lunch where you can sit and relax or just grab a quick bite to eat. I've visited three times in the last month. The baguettes and salads are delicious - you can tell they use fresh ingredients and I love the fact that they are locally sourced unlike a lot of places that just use cheap crap and charge a fortune. Really impressed and actually shocked at the bad reviews because I really can't fault the place. Nice one guys keep up the good work.

We had the pleasure breakfasting here today and it was lovely. Really good quality sausages, My husband is a bit if a sausage snob, and praise coming from him is praise indeed !! Also lovely bacon and a huge portions. Also lovely coffee served by friendly staff.

Lovely coffee and food in the heart of Brighton, located close to the station which is beneficial. I'll be going back that's for sure :)
