The Labworth Restaurant in Castle Point

Great restaurant- I must admit my surprise just how good this restaurant is. It’s on Canvey seafront which is a bit mixed. However the views from this rather unusual ‘art deco’ style building complement the experience. Attentive staff, very good food, all 5 of us really enjoyed our meals. The pace of service was just right. I had Skate, which can be hard to get right - it was delightful. Portions well sized - enough but not oppressive.

Highly recommended. Food was out of this world. I’d been out off having steak due to bad experiences in other restaurants. I thought I’d try it again, middle fillet steak , rare !!!! Man , it was something else!!!! Best I’ve had and Iv had a few steaks in my time. Cooked to perfection. I was in a party of 12 everyone was more than satisfied which the food and the attentive staff. Especially the waitress with dm shoes and Lorraine. Thanks again Steve , your wife ( sorry I can’t recall your name ) and all kitchen staff on making my fathers 90th birthday special. Rich Adams.

Fantastic views with your dinner! We had been meaning to book this place for about a year, we finally booked and had our meal on 4th August. From the outset, it was exactly what we wanted and needed for a dinner out. An extremely friendly lady welcomed us in, took our coats and allowed us to pick our table. She was full of a bubbly warm welcome and she was very good at our job. She seated us, gave us our menus and allowed us time to look at the drinks menu when she came to take our order, she knew her drinks, and she was very passionate about the drinks we had ordered. Her colleague came to take our food order, again, she was really friendly and happily checked we were happy with our order. I can honestly say, the steak I had was one of the best cuts (and suitably cooked) of steak I've had in a very long time. People commented on my personal profile saying there didn't look much on the plate, I can assure you, you are not short-changed and you won't go hungry here! The staff are extremely friendly, bubbly and subtle in their approach when coming to take orders or clearing your plates. This is somewhere you are not rushed out and although there isn't a bells and whistle website, word of mouth is their best seller - you need to try this, even if it's a one-off, I don't think it will be, but have a good yourself.

I’m a chef,one of the world’s finest. I create recipes and concepts that would amaze anyone. I like to travel around the world to feed my beautifully crafted, delicious brain. I came to canvey island after a chef in Paris (Pholippe de la mearde) told me about this place and how he had a very ordinary experience here. I was greeted with the respect that I deserve from commoners and was shown to my table. The table next to mine was quite close to mine and I overheated with excitement when I heard their conversation.they were talking about their food she was explaining how much she enjoyed the sausage and he was telling her that he was going to smother her in sauce with his sausage when they got back to their bed sit. I went ahead and ordered some food. When my scotch egg arrived,I was dazzled by its magnificence,it looked like something that I had created….PERFECT! The side effects were pleasing and the side salad looked like it had been created by Colin van Clunt (a chef I know from Vladivostok)…..FRESH !! The staff were all very attractive (attentive) and catered for all of my bizarre needs,one memorable member of the brigade escorted me to the toilets and showed me how to use a “urinal “ as I had never seen or used one before. My puddle (probably pudding) was very attractive (like me) and it tasted as good as something even I could produce. It was 2 perfectly square spheres of ice cream,one chocolate and one not chocolate and it had a green sauce expertly dumped over it that tasted like a mixture of mint and veal….STUNNING! The bill was also very pleasant,the manager recognised me from the television and took 79 p off my meal.such a great show of respect and humility. I left feeling like I could walk on water !! (I can’t because I tried that one when I thought I was god and sunk like a rock). WONDERFUL MEAL

Food was very good, rather expensive, I asked to use the toilet, but was told I need to use the one in the car park, unacceptable

What a great Sunday roast, the whole experience was exemplary. It's not just a carvery, it's a whole experience of dining. Will definitely be back for more. Staff were all very attentive, nothing was too much trouble.

Honestly one of the nicest, if not THE nicest breakfasts I’ve had in a long long time… sausage, bacon, black pudding, hash browns, simple ingredients, cooked really, really well. Lovely 🥰

We visited the Savor (formerly Labworth) as a group of 4 for the first time, despite living in the area for some time. Could not fault the meal, surroundings or service. The food was great - good menu choice, flavoursome, decent sized portions, and not overly expensive. Tables are well spaced so you don't hear others conversations. The view of the estuary and the restaurant decor really makes it seem like it's a special occasion. Added to that the friendly but unobtrusive service, made it an all round excellent experience. Can't wait to visit again soon.

Let’s be clear… The Labworth restaurant is now called Savor. It’s the best meal I’ve had since going out post lockdown… and I’ve been out to a few restaurants recently. It had a varied menu, a lovely choice of specials, and portions were just right. The food was outstanding and the service perfect. Well worth a visit. We will be back (hopefully very soon!)

This was our first time visiting and we were very pleased we chose this lovely restaurant. The decor and ambiance were perfect and the staff were outstandingly friendly and helpful. The food was very nice with a varied selection of dishes. A lovely experience, so much so that we considered the optional service charge too low and asked for the bill to be increased to reflect a lovely evening out. I would highly recommend visiting this restaurant.

I have visited the Labworth Cafe many times over the years. I grew up on the island and have recently had reason to return - taking my elderly Dad to the Cafe for lunch or a coffee whilst soaking up what is probably the best vantage point on Canvey. When the tide is out and the estuary waters are calm, it is a tranquil spot. The attraction of the cafe has grown, sometimes it is very busy. A recommendation is to arrive for lunch around 130pm and expect to stay until 3pm when it closes. The staff, mainly young people, are incredibly welcoming and do a great job serving.

Went to this restaurant for early bird meal for friends birthday, we did not have starters opted for two courses. My friend and I had chicken and the other one had pork. It looked like chicken roll and pork roll. I cut mine open and it was pink inside had reservations about eating it so called waitress over she took back to kitchen, offered me free drink. Had the second piece of chicken served with fresh vegetables cut into that and that was all black inside, also felt I could not bring myself to eat it as it looked very unappetising, so just ate veg, and told waitress why I could not eat it. The desserts were fine. I was not charged for the meal, but I feel I have to write this review as this restaurant is quite expensive and I expected more from the evening. My friends birthday was spoilt as she felt the evening did not turn out to be the evening we expected. I would like to say the waitresses were exceptional. I visit the Bistro downstairs often and have always found that great food, I would not visit the restaurant upstairs again in a hurry.

Visited here in a group of 4 on a Saturday night. Two of our group was vegetarian and the veggie/ vegan menu was superb ..so much choice. The food was amazing,lovely and fresh and plenty of it. Great service from lovely friendly staff as well. Throw in a brilliant cocktail menu and superb views out over the Thames estuary and it all adds up to a 10/10 experience. ♥️

Midweek catch up with friends and decided to go to the Labworth Restaurant as we know we are always guaranteed a great meal and service here.We opted for:Starters: Deep fried Mushrooms in batter with a blue cheese dip, Smoked Salmon parcel, Mains: Twice roasted belly of Pork with a Cider gravy, Liver and bacon with red onion gravy and mashed potatoes. Dessert: Banoffee Pavlova, Cheese board, Cookie dough with ice cream followed by coffee.All expertly prepared and presented, staff very polite and helpful, - three cheers to Angie behind the bar and Paul in the kitchen!Will definately return.

I found staff brilliant atmosphere OK service great, but food overpriced and not nice to eat, I had a raw steak which was taken back & cooked again but was no better same chips with blood on them, the cheese was like a bit of rubber all in all one bad night, I didn't complain because my girlfriend meal was OK she had the fish, & I didn't won't to spoil the night

Went to this restaurant last night to celebrate my mums birthday. 4 adult and 1 toddler. Called Thursday afternoon and given a 6o’clock booking for The Saturday no problem, walked in with a lovely welcome from the staff. Took our coats and seated us straight away with a high chair. So friendly and even playful with my little girl who’s only two. We were offered and served our drinks immediately and orders taken very quickly afterwards. We all ordered different starters all of which were lovely. Only thing I might say is a little more lettuce with the prawn cocktail as you give a very generous amount of prawns to balance it out and a little more toast with the pate other than that perfect and delicious. Our mains were incredible, one sea bass, two steaks, a pork loin and pizza for our little one who also ate mozzarella sticks beforehand and she loved all of it. Your steaks were absolutely amazing! My partner is very fussy about steak but decided to try it and said it’s the best he has ever had, melted in the mouth, sea bass fell apart and my pork loin was delious and portions are very generous! Your desert menu is also great, I had the taste plate which contains 4 portions from different options from the menu so In my opinion the best of both worlds because you get to taste a little of all the very tasty puds. Last thing to say is your staff are fabulous, they were so polite, friendly and their service skills were brilliant. I have to say your male waiter last night was excellent and I’m so sorry I didn’t get him name but he was so professional and made our even even nicer. Thanks for a lovely evening and we will most definitely be coming back again.

My family and I have often visited this restaurant for evening meals and always found the food and service to be of exceptional standard, tonight was no exception, in fact we all agreed it was quite possibly one of the best meals we have ever had. The staff as ever really couldn't do enough for you and are so friendly.If you have not been to this restaurant then you are missing out.

We have been here a few times now mostly for a quick coffee before a walk along the sea wall, had lunch here last week and it was lovely, there was a good range to choose from the tea and coffee is good value. The staff are good with children and friendly. The view is lovely and in the hotter weather the windows are pulled open wide so you are practically on the sea front. Toilets available we’re well equipped and very clean.

Only half the fixed price menu was fixed, the rest had added charges. They should Put them on an “a la carte” menu and stop inept/opportunistic extra charge deceit. Food ok but this is canvey island seawall not a west end hotel, no impressed or disappointed.

Just back from another fabulous night at the Labworth....came for our 21st wedding anniversary/wife’s birthday.....been looking at the menu all week but unfortunately my starter & main course were not available (pigeon breast/lamb rack) but 5 minutes later chose alternatives...Brie melt/fillet steak which were excellent.....was celebrating so had champagne (bollinger) 1st was pretty lively so over spilled but given another without any fuss.....was offered the original at half price so felt it rude not to accept.....service & all food excellent....not the cheapest but you get what you pay for...all in all highly recommended & will definitely be returning.....happy Christmas Labworth.

I have visited the Labworth, both bistrot and restaurant many times and have always been pleased with the food and the service offered.

Absolutely disgusting, the food had it seemed, a full packet of salt washed over every item in the main meal, 14 out of 15 of the party all said it was just soaked in salt. Being as it’s only 10’ from the river Thames, it was as if the meal was IN the Thames itself. Also service charge had an extra 25p added to every drink, alcohol on none alcohol, this is not mentioned till the bill arrives. Don’t go there, yuk

Dined here recently and noticed that the prices had increased slightly,with most meals around £11.50 each but,as ever,the portions are big! Furthermore,no matter how full you are,the desserts always look so tempting!

It may take a few attempts to get a booking - it hasn't got the biggest dining room in the area- but the wait is well worth it.

well what can I say. Had a visit hear with 2 friends, the service from when we walked in to when we left was superb! I have very high expectations of customer services and this met mine and above.

Thought we would try The Labworth as used to go there many years ago. Was very disappointed. The menu is a set price but there are so many supplements which makes it very pricy. I had a salmon platter to start which had a £5 supplement. Was very disappointed as was just a few pieces of smoked salmon on a plate. Why the £5 supplement. My sea bass was very nice. The desert on the other hand - I ordered a peach Melba pavlova which was basically two ready made meringues with tin peaches. Would I go back? No I don’t think so. Highly overrated and expensive.

Went here for a 50th Birthday In January and this is bar far the best food from a restaurant I’ve had. We had a great night. Parking is good with plenty of spaces.
